You could also cut off the remaining ladder and file the others down so that all of them would be the same. I've done that before on items that finding a better replacement wasn't practical given the situation.

Kev - I was unsure of Japanese curry at first, but it is very good and they must add something special to it as I find myself craving it every now and then.
Jack - Although I will be cheering for the Giants, they are not my favorite team. When I first starting playing and watching football a young QB from Pitt was recruited to a team in Florida, which for some reason my oldest brother was already partial to. From that point on they were my team even though they have had some very rough years since I have been a fan. Of course the fact that this team is in the same division as the Pats makes me dislike the Pats more.

Evening. Skirting on even with meetings interrupting me. Fred and Grady really did most of it while I was gone. Heat pump install owner came and fixed the problem. In one hour it had gone to 70 but 60's outside. Unit is now cycling. It actually puts out warm air. Better than any big unit I have ever seen. For me personally, natural gas heat in my house. He has to come back and tweek it a little.
Heard that the Roseyville PD, Wake Co Sheriff and Raleigh PD were chasing someone in the woods near the pond. Figured it was Buckeye. Turned out it was one of the "Jones Boys" on the hill above the pond.
Now for dinner.

Proud New Member Of The NRA
Earlier today I needed an F unit shell with all the ladders intact and couldn't find one. So I ordered an F unit shell on the net. Now that I didn't need to find one I found three in a box under the layout. An Athearn F7-A blue box shell, a Proto 1000 F7-A shell and a Stewart F7-A shell. Three have no headlight lens or window glass but that doesn't concern me. All three have intact ladders. So I chose the Proto 1000 shell to go on the Athearn blue box chassis I fixed yesterday. The Stewart shell is on a Frankenstein chassis and the blue box shell will be used on an old Bachmann dummy frame. The shell I ordered is a new Model Power F2-A shell that's complete. I'll decide what to do with it when it arrives next week.After no sleep last night and little rest today I'm feeling very tired. So I'm going to call it a night early. See y'all tomorrow.

Hello all
Back at work for another week. This has been a painful day. Been called on the phone a few dozen time by everyone in the organization except the two people who actually do something. Visiting staff as well. Oh joy... Thank god tomorrow is Friday. As you know they don't do weekends.
Don - the rock story brings back memories. I used to carry my backback for mine tours. Since often I had the only one, I was frequently carrying around 50 lbs or more.
Jack - you know in all the years and all the jobs, science, technical, and who know what else, I never, ever had someone ask me about grades. Not once. What kind of classes I took and extra responsibilities I took on was what was of interest. And after the first job, nobody seemed to care about what I did in college. It was all job performance and interviewing skills after that.
Laz/Colin - the M1 version is interesting. I don't have a very high opinion of M-16s/AR-15s. I trained w/ the original M-16, before the A1. Was not accepted due the lack of a forward assist. We were not allowed to fire this one, only the A1s. The forward assist was necessary because after so many rounds went thru the bolt design would not allow it to lock due to carbon buildup. The forward assist was there to hit to knock the carbon off so you could get it to lock. Not exactly a great design for combat. If you want to hit something a 300 yds, only shoot 25 rounds or less, and not have any recoil its a good gun for target practice. They would have done better for a rifle firing the 5.56 round w/ a military version of the Ruger Mini-14, but Colt got the contract. Just because the military uses something, doesn't mean it's really good.
No word on the job front yet. They have a couple more interviews to go thru. Even though it was supposed to be internal only, we got a number of outside applicants. Go figure. May hear something tomorrow.

Just had supper at NC State and no grits. In fact it was really a good meal except they ran out of Yingling Beer with all of us Yankees in attendence. Most of them talk just like the Chief. Can hardly stand going outside without my coat, vest, gloves and stocking hat.

Good evening guys. Has been a long day. Had to go in early, but as it worked out, my case had to follow another one. Dragged the day out. All went well and I got to pick our son up when meeting my bride at daughter's dance class. Came home and got things set up for kids and a baby sitter for this evening as I had a dinner engagement with a sales rep and we brought the wives. I figured bringing the wife was a must as the sales rep is a former Atlanta falcons cheerleader.
Don and Bob, many years ago, I lived up near Ft. Benning. Some friends of mine were going through the land navigation course and told me a story of how some guy who was trying to score points with the commander had gotten my friends in trouble. To get even, every time the guy would take his pack off to take a break, they would add rocks to it. Now imagine doing this over twenty miles! The guy never caught on till the end of the day.
Colin, if the other contact does not work out, a friend of mine is the secret service liaison between Napolitano and all of law enforcement. He should be able to help. He lives in Virginia and may be close enough to get you in to talk with the folks who do the actual hiring.
Regarding heat pumps, we have two complete sets. They had worked great for ten years and the last year has Not been so great. We have had to replace one outside coil, one inside coil, and now the second inside coil is going to need replacing. Our units are Amana, and from what the heating and AC folks tell me, they have had issues with Amana.
Chief, better watch out, that Yankee infiltrator is libel to serve you cream of wheat, or some other stuff! Hope the visit goes well.

Mostly sunny and in the 40's today.
Looks like I've out smarted myself on e-bay. There was a SD 90 listed as a buy it now item. The price was right, but there was also another SD90 listed as an auction at an even better price. I'm thinking that I'll be cagey and bid on the auction, with the buy it now item as a plan 'B' in case I lost the auction.
Checked the listings today and found out that somebody bought the buy it now item. OOPS.
Oh well. There will be more listed in the future. The hunt for items on e-bay is half the fun.

Our police force on the mountain use Bushmasters. From what I've seen of the newer models they have a better (and collapsible) butt stock and a better fore stock. The originals were often fairly loose and we were told not to buttstroke anyone w/ one as you'd likely break the stock. They still have the forward assist to deal w/ the poor bolt locking design and the charging handle that is separate from the bolt. I consider them popular because 1) they are low recoil and easy to shoot, 2) look cool (i.e. military), and 3) it's what the military currently uses. For target practice or something to plink w/ I'm sure they are fine.
I'm sure I will raise a few hairs since a lot of people have these, but then I have my reasons for not liking Fords or John Deere's as well

Bob: It's funny you mention Bushmaster AR15's. I have another friend who has one, and after 100 rounds it starts to jam. My other friend with the Stag Arms AR15 has never had his AR15 jam once and he has put close to 5,000 rounds through it. He cleans and maintains it, but we can easily put 500 rounds through it in a day and have it be absolutely fine.

Doug you sure are right about that. I was working at Knotts this morning, actually had some people come up and wanted to know if "Soak City" (the water park) was open today. Don't remember they had out of state plates, PA, Ohio, or Iowa I think.
Speaking of Knotts, recently had a 60th celebration of the Knott's Railroad. Here are some pictures. (May be familiar to some of you.)
First a couple of my co-workers;
The building straight ahead is the Depot, the engine normally sits in front of the water tank. A golden spike was driven in at the crossing behind the fence to commerate the event. (The box car was built in 1904)
The "EDNA" is an executive car built in 1881, and belonged to the D&RG, acquirred by Knotts in 1952. Edna is not generally open to the public but was available for the 60th.
The park has 2 Consolidation C-19 engines, (only 12 where made). Both engines were originally built in 1881 and belonged to the D&RG. Also acquired by Knotts in 1952. Knotts bought everything needed to start their railroad, including track, ties, spikes, plates, maintenance equip, machine shop, and rolling stock. Also brought a couple of engineers and maintenance personnel to set up the railroad.
The Chama was built in 1880, acquired in 1951. Has been rebuilt in 2008.
The "Round House", actually shaped in a "L", has two bays.
In my opinion the "prize" the Gallopping Goose, #3. Then of course the parks Stage Coach. (The stables are located across the street from the park. When the stage comes or leaves the park, a traffic signal is activated which stops traffic on a 4 lane blvd.. Shocking for some of the traffic!) The Goose is currently in operation. It is used instead of the train during weekdays in the winter months. There are a total of 7 I believe, and # 3 is the only one not located in Colorado.
The "Round House Tour" was very brief, and not very elaborate, nothing in comparison to Strausburg. The Chief engineer (red plaid shirt), did an interview on the morning news promoting the event. The reporter had asked him what was inside the boiler. He looked into the camera, and very sullen said all the "innards" are down in the other area on a bench. The reported commented that they thought it would have been a little more technical.
Still hoping for a transfer to that area, but it wont be until mid March or so.
Hope Buckeye has a safe trip, and the Chief survives.

FifeMax got several shots yesterday, and is 16 lbs already at 3 months. Some news may be coming our way on the property we bid on. May be thinking in another direction...
