Well I just shovelled the first snow of the season. We got a few more inches today. A bit early for us. Normally we don't get more than a dusting until at least Thanksgiving. Still in the clouds, but hopefully it will clear off so we can observe later. Fairly cold, about 15 F.

Joe - you know, I've never used a camera in a cell phone before, but heck I just got another cell phone. Moving into the 90's I guess...Tongue Tied

Brutus - Happy Birthday!

Jeffrey - like the new additions! Did I spy an HO model of a Pacer? You just know there had to be one...

Ray - hope the trip is going well. Watch out that Chief doesn't put any grits in your bag on the way back.

Managed to fix one of my AM radios last night. This one has been a long time in coming. Was a bit of a basket case when I got it. It's old old Silvertone in an interesting trapezoidal wood cabinet. Won't be able to actually try it out 'til I get home. Telescope is a big faraday cage. First time I used my vacuum tube voltmeter to check a negative DC voltage. Very cool! Probes and wires going everywhere. Mad science! I love it!.

Watch part of the Pentrex Big Boy Collection after I got off shift. I never tire of that. I continue to be impressed w/ the size of those locomotives. Just the tender is as big as the locomotives that we had on the Nevada Northern. I been next to #4005 in Denver, but to actually see one of these breathing fire, well that must have been something.

Evening all.  Just got home.  Had to drop of deer at processors.  Fred shot a 5 pointer this AM.  He saw a big 6 but no shot.  Saw 4 more deer but no shot.  All I saw was a ton of squirrels and birds.  Moving my stand away from field as they come out after dark and go in before light.  Think there is too much highway traffic too close to the field.  Lots of doe and some big buck tracks.  Fresh since it rained.  Moving my stand to a logging lane 100 yards farther inside the woods.  Fred has his on one in another part of the woods.  I will be able to shoot over 200 yds each way.

Tried to sign on this AM from stand.  Kept says page was down.  Probably so as all the other forums I visit were up and I posted.  Long day as I left home before 6 AM.

You sure did. That's a model of a 1978 Pacer. I had two Pacers when I was younger. A 1975 Pacer X and a 1979 Pacer DL. The X had a 258 long block with a 2 barrel and it was a fast thing. We used it over in Germany and it had no problem maintaining 110 mph on the autobahn while pulling a one and a half ton French Caravan. You go 60 over there and you'll get run over! The DL had a smaller 258 with a 1 barrel carb. While it performed well enough it didn't have the power of the earlier model. I actually have two Pacers for the layout. The one you say at the shell station and a junked one that's partially burned and most of the windows busted out.

Hello all,

Happy B-Day Brutus

Ray how goes the trip?

Corn is all picked, Corn crib is full to make feed for cows and chickens. Have five wagon loads to be shelled and sold. Hopefully this will cover next years planting expenses. I'm not sure what the mill will be paying for shelled corn but they are selling for $18.00 per hundred. It was $12 or $13 last year. Soy bean harvest will begin tomorrow.

Have given up on using Gravely to gather leaves, yard still too soft. Hired a teenager to rake the worst onto a tarp and drag to garden. What remains will be "mowed'  using walk behind Toro son uses to mow Grave yard.Digging Dalia's, Gladiola's and Cana Lilies will commence on Wednesday. Mud or no mud

Laz, How'd you like the Ozzie and Harriet show. I thought it was great. Did any body else check it out?

Still undecided on Greenberg Show at Monroeville this weekend.

Mrs & I celebrate 36 years together tomorrow.

Off to bed

Brutus,

               Happy B-Day

Bob,

With the carphone in the GL, I feel like I am moving backwards technology wise.Laugh

Not much going on today.  I spent the weekend on the GL and ordering parts.  Ran Seafoam through the PCV line Saturday, then it jumped time.Dots - Sign  Nothing serious, and it gives more evidence that the odd sound coming from the timing cover was a pulley or tensioner going out.  I crawled underneath, and the underbody is great.  No rust there.  Rust here though...

I need to figure those fuel lines out asap.  The filler neck is solid, so no worries there.

I won't be able to make the Monroeville Greenberg show this weekend, but I want to get going on the Christmas layout soon.

Hi all,

Long day today 11 hours in the fertilizer truck. In the truck by 6:30 AM and got out at 5:30 PM in the dark. Trying to get as much done as we could before the rain. I am beat!!  Zzz

Brutus - Happy Birthday!

Doug :Thanks for the info on the train show. Hope to go if I don’t have to be in the fertilizer truck.

Jeffrey: I made an epoxy patch for that rim. Going to re-mount the tire and see if it leaks tomorrow if I get called off work because of bad weather..

Have a good night everybody.

Thanks guys!  I had a pretty good day just goofing off mostly.  I did spend a couple hours rearranging my books and rotating some to storage for a while at my wife's request.  Dusty work!  UPS delivered my Aristo-RMT Bang S4, which looks great.  I need to move some stuff so I can hook up the power and test run it on my circle of track on the table.  TARDIS is ready and we have cake and banilla, so let's get going guys!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Thunder, lightning and rain this evening.

I've been busy lately and have not posted in a while.  Had a business trip to Detroit last week.  Stopped in a couple of train shop theres and came home with some flat 4 conductor wire, and a passenger platform.

Saturday, we hosted the main course for a progressive dinner.  Cooked chicken fijeats for 20.  Of course, we had to rearrange the whole house to get enough tables set up and spent most of Sunday putting the house back to normal..

Brutus - Happy Birthday.

KRM - cast wheels can be described as a collection of voids held together with a lattice work of metal.  With age and use, it is not unusual for enough of the voids to connect and create a slow leak.  Your epoxy fix should do the trick.  Alternate fixes include a sealer made by Loctite, and if you know where the leak is, you could close it mechanically by hitting the leak with the round end of a ball peen hammer - a process known as peening the leak shut.

My SD70 got back from Lionel last week.  The repair report said that they re-soldered the wires in the sound system.

My wife is in charge of a reading of The Polar Express as a children's program at the KATY Depot later this month.  I've been drafted to construct a PE layout.  I think I'm going to try a variation on the 'Three Times Around the Tree' layout from CTT a few years back.  Will have to mock it up and debug it at home before moving it to the depot.

All for now.

Brutus, Happy B-Day and many more !

Banks, Happy anniversary !

Looks as though the halloween layout gets a one week reprieve. A couple of yesterday's guests have a relative who is a "trainhead" who would take great delight in seeing the layout. For those that had asked I posted a few more shots on SPF.

Konbanwa,

I had a bunch of meetings and briefings to attend today at work, but somehow the day still flew by.  I went to lunch with my boss and a couple of officemates.  We went to a Japanese curry restaurant (Coco's).  It is a chain throughout Japan.  The Japanese curry is a little different than Indian or Thai curry, but it was very good nonetheless.  I had mine with a breaded chicken cutlet and rice, and I had it at a moderately high spice level.  I will try the cuttlefish version next time.  I will hopefully take the family there soon; my princess will love it.  My wife went grocery shopping off base to a Costco today.  They have local Japanese fruits and vegetables we cannot get on base.  She also photographed some packaged octopuses for sale; however, she did not buy any.  I will upload all the photos tomorrow.

Doug M - We had pizza once since we've been here, but it was from the Pizza Hut on base so we didn't have anything outrageous on it.

Charlie - Very nice.  Stick out tongue

Subbob - My wife takes all the photos with her iPhone.  I believe the Blackberry the Air Force issues me has a camera as well, but I don't know how to use it. Confused

Banks - Happy Anniversary.

8N - Your project should be fun; please share photos of the progress.

Dougdagrump - Great job on the Halloween layout.

Sayonara,

Joe

Happy anniversary Banks.

Good morning. It's 66 and cloudy. The high will be 79 with a 40+% chance of thunderstorms throughout the day.

Hopefully I don't have a project that requires I work on it outside today. Radar shows a very ugly looking line of thunderstorms coming across central Texas moving fast toward Louisiana. I saw a lot of yellow, orange and red in there indicating heavy rain. There's really nothing much to work on today so I'll probably just clean up some areas and give the track a wipe down.

I'm feeling better than I was yesterday so that's a plus. The container flat I worked on yesterday is in good shape but the containers are the old 24' truck trailer bodies. I don't believe anybody uses those anymore. Maybe I'll just make a 40' container to go on there.

Morning all.  Election day.  One individual called and was concerned.  He noticed a large number of a certain "element" of voters at the poles.  He thought they might have an underground movement to write-in their candidates to replace the two Town Commissioners and myself.  If so, good.  Then I retire to the lake house.  Some folks.

Pretty day here and very warm.

Banks, happy Aniv. [poor Mrs. Banks].

Better go vote or I might not get re-elected.

Later.

For my project of the day I made a paper shell of a 45' Hi-Cube container for the Tyco container flat. With dozens to choose from it wasn't as easy as I thought it would be. I finally settled on a rusted design, downloaded the jpg image and printed it out on card stock. I made a slight error in the scaling and it came out as 46' long but who's counting.

Kevin, the next DuPage show is this Sunday, the 13th. It is the second Sunday of each month at the fair grounds - the fall and winter ones are the hugest.  http://www.greatmidwesttrainshow.com/

Thanks Doug M !!!

I think I will check it out with a friend of mine who lives in Batavia.

Thought you may want to check out this show in Princeton about 30 miles west of me on I80. It is on Saturday 9:00 to 3:00. 4th Annual North Central IL. Train Fair and Farm toy Show. $ 4.00 to get in. I have been there for gun shows and it is always good for them.

Good afternoon all,

IIABSDISEI with temps near 70.  It has been a busy 3 days.  Sunday and Monday worked in attic to get rid of stuff or store it in barn for possible yard sale items.  Ran Lionel Classic 384E for a while as well.   Today voted, fixed rear view mirror on our 91  Dodge Spirit, washed it, and put in a new light fixture in barn.  Been a nice four days off.  Back to work for two days and then a 3 day weekend.  I could get used to this.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Normally you take GRITS.  Its official.  I got 100% of the votes for Mayor.  I actually got more votes than the two Town Commissioners.  Thought it would have been equal.

Tired and sleepy.  Got this sinus thing still going on.
