Hi GUYZ,
44 here and nice. Trip to BARRYs TRAIN SHOP today after school.
CHUCK & BUCKEYE, TGIF!!!!!
Stay frosty,
laz57
Mornin' boys. 49 at first light here in the Mid-Atlantic region. I wasn't getting the scopey thingy (that's awaiting for me at the end of the rainbow). I gots other issues to contract out first. Came out of proc-tors office walking a little funny, and had to take off last night. And NO, Roy did not hold my hand.
Good Morning from Blueberryhill....
It is a dark and cloudy 42 degrees. Going up to 60 today, with sunshine.
Today is an easy day. I have a few chores to do and some paperwork. Then, I will relax and do some reading. New CTT mag has a lot of good articles.
Buckeye & LAZ..... TGIF
Dining car is here with Cheerios for breakfast.
Y'all have a great Friday.
Chuck
Good morning all,
IIABSDISEI with temps in the 50s. Made the ususal pre-anniversary flower run last night, which was properly received. Will be wandering Indiana tomorrow to celebrate. Taking Monday off to go with Tuesday election to make it a four day weekend. Regular fare on the dining car. TBIL, but it will have to be a late pickup. I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,
MIke C. from Indiana
Hi all,
Must be cold, cat wants back in after only an hour out.
1.5" of rain so no work for a few days. Okay with me but could use the spending cash.
Fifedog and Roy glad you checked out Okay. I need to get my apt for this year’s trip to doctor proc-tor. I have to get one every three years and have been since I was in my 30s. Reason is family history; you never get used to it but glad they have good drugs beforehand. Beats the alternative.
Chuck, four does a fawn and two turkeys in the driveway last night. With the fields harvested it is driving everything back into the wood for the winter. Plenty of those pesky squirrels but not hunting yet. Wifey only lets me get the squirrels. She likes to feed the deer but WOW 100lb bag of feed corn is up to $18.00 a bag from $10.00 last year. Guess that is what you get when corn is over $6.50 a bushel.
Banks, not much corn left standing here.
Brutus
Got to go.
Have a great day all!

I should of put Chief in here sorry Chuck I will wake up soon but I have a pest helping me out to insure I screw up.
Good Mornin' Ya'll From Partly Sunny Taxachusetts,
Joy!!!!!!!! Highs today only 49 but temps may hit 60 Monday and Tuesday.!!!! Great weather for procrastinating with Winter prep. If I didn't procrastinate, I wouldn't be able to freeze to death and curse myself for not doing this stuff when the weather was a tad warmer. Frostbitten fingers keep the health care professionals employed and busy. Hmmmmmmmmm.......put up Christmas lights? Nah, think I will follow tradition.
Safety message as we move into the Winter.......four of the six deaths in MA attributed to last weekend's snowstorm were the result of carbon monoxide "poisoning" in the home. And four of eight deaths in CT have been contributed to the same thing. The individual stories citing the causes behind these fatalities seem to point to folks running gas-powered generators in their garages to provide temporary electricity until power can be restored. In Taxachusetts we are required by law to have carbon monoxide detectors in the home in addition to smoke detectors. These fatalities puzzle me somewhat. Error in judgement? Sheer accident? Stupidity? No carbon monoxide detectors? Or ignorance? My Dad had CM detectors installed in his home back in the 1990s and I recall them saving his and my Mom's life. He had them installed after a malfunction with his newer gas forced air furnace jacked the CM levels in his home to dangerous levels. He wasn't feeling quite right and called the fire department to check things out and they confirmed high CM levels. It happened once again, AFTER he had the detectors installed, and the detectors gave him the heads up. Be safe out there boys.....this is one of the added reasons/benefits of having my furnace (heating oil baseboard hot water heat) serviced each year. The tech cleans and checks the heating unit and the rest of the system for more than just the energy performance versus spec. He checks for proper venting and CM levels against the safe standard spec and the levels recorded last visit.
HudsonJohn......stay safe, brother. Bet you and your team mates are all running past empty about now. Yours is the type of job where you don't get second chances.
Fife........don't you arrest people for the type of assault you were subjected to?
Chuck........IMHO, I think a trip down the stairs to the train room with the wifey at the ready might be a good thing, provided you feel ready. There is no rush, however. Bet you'd like to get in a running session. There is nothing better than a motivated patient.
LAZ.......re your trip to Barry's, I think I'll make a swing by Northeast Trains in Peabody this coming week. I like to see what they have there on consignment, like some postwar 2343s. My wife deserves these for Christmas, don't you think?
Jeff.......you are me. One trip to buy the wrong thing, another to go back and find out they don't have what I need, and a third to a store that does. I write everything down out of the owners' manuals and am saving $ on gas now.
Bob........break out the Winter coats for your pet skunk!!!!
SP Ray.......I just thought of one more thing for you to consider about your upcoming trip East, a strip search at the security checkpoint at the airport.
Brutus.......keeping a lid on Chewy post op will be more difficult than you think. These pups don't listen to or read the vet's instructions to lay low for a couple of weeks. They return to their normal activities way too soon, before they are healed. Jumping onto and off of furniture, tearing up and down stairs, and the like. Keep a leash on Chewy indoors and out for a week or two.
Banks......how good was the corn harvest this year by you? It was way below normal locally here this year.
Rich.........glad to hear it was the "other" knuckleheads in the MVA. BTW, what do you mean when you say "close friend?"
California boys.....national news had a piece this AM that affects youse guyz. Video of a surfer and a kayaker that almost became lunch for a humpback whale feeding in the waters just off shore. Leave the surfboard and kayak at home and use a boat that weighs a few tons. Unless you need a lot of firewood, ttay out of the woods too. A giant Sequoia fell there recently.
Chief.........guess my wishes yesterday for luck on your hunting expedition didn't help. The squirrels and bucks must have been tipped off by one ff your political rivals. At least you got some exercise toting all of your firepower around with you. Re the DWI video clip, it did not appear you were acting.
Becky........what you have created is spectacular. Best wishes for inclusion in an upcoming CTT issue. Problem is, you have so many fantastic pieces they won't know where to start.
Dennis......man, the to do's just don't quit. Prep for adoption nearly becomes a complicated full-time job. You almost have to invest in project software!!! Prayers continue.
JoeyD........I read where it will take Japan 30 years to clean up after the nuclear power plant disaster versus 10 years for Three Mile Island near LAZ.
Gotta run. Later gang! Where is Buckeye?
Jack
IF IT WON'T COME LOOSE BY TAPPING ON IT, DON'T TRY TO FORCE IT. USE A BIGGER HAMMER.
Aloha from a sunny and cool Chicago. TGIF! Roy, I love that word 'obviate' - I have to work it into conversation today. Happy anniversary, Mike C. Harvest was decent in my part of IL, Jack. CO2 detectors required here too. CN still cleaning up from their derailment yesterday just south of here. Looks like some of the holiday garden train displays are going up....
Doug Murphy 'We few, we happy few, we band of brothers...' Henry V.
Quick stop over this morning. Have to head to the bank, get hair cut, go in and do some rounds, then come home and finish making things "right" for the social worker. I feel like we are getting one of them scopes without the anesthesia! I really do appreciate the job this lady is doing and the reasons as I know they want the best thing for the children.
Jack, we don't require CM detectors here as we are mostly electric heat, etc. I do have one on the main level as we have a fireplace, but that is all. When I lived up north, most folks had either oil burners, or gas heat. In those cases, CM is a big concern. Also, folks should test their heating systems during the day hours and keep them well maintained. I remember a numbers of fires caused by malfuntioning systems.
Brutus, glad to hear your little fuzzy girl is doing well. Sounds like she is getting good care.
Roy, happy anniversary. Hope you have a great day and many more ahead.
Better get going. Hope each of you has a blessed day.Dennis

Good Morning
39 and sunny
I don't have much going on today, but we have a big train show on Sunday. I'm planning to help set up the module layout tomorrow. It's the one that was used in Charlies' driveway in June. Granny just left for the fruit market, her first shopping outing alone. She seems to be doing real well but of course still has pain. Corn beef hash, and egg for breakfast..S.J.

Good morning. It's 39° and sunny. The high will be a balmy 64°.Thank God it's Friday even though it's just another day to me. The groceries have been bought, bills are paid, any packages have been sent out, needed items have been bought and the vans gas tank is full. Now I have only a few pennies to rub together. Oh well, it could be worse.I think today I'll finally get the L&A decals on the Front Range hopper and get it weathered. I need to tear down the track cleaning tank car and paint the body MoW gray. I'm still waiting on a bulk pack of Kadee #5 couplers that I got for a very good price. Only problem is they're coming by snail express. I managed to find a 128mb Smart Media card for my Olympus camera at a civilized price. The old card is still working but is splitting apart on the end and one side. The only thing keeping it together is a bit of electrical tape. At some point I'm going to have to look around and see if I can find my coat. It's getting a little too nippy here for my usually formal dress of jeans and a T-shirt.
Hello all,
TGIF
It's a sunny mid 50's here.
Lots & Lots to do now that the rain has let up. Clean up leaves and dig out the bulbs that won't take the freeze. Also help son shell corn. Clean gutters if there is time.
Jack, The corn harvest here is way off. Corn that was cut for silage was probably 60 or 70 % of normal. Ear corn is also in that range, if you can get it dry enough to pick. Needs to be 15% or less for shelled corn. Ear corn can be nearer 25%. Son's corn that he picked is 19%. We are going to shell at least a ton. and hope it keeps. (Need to empty wagons to pick the rest. Deer are hammering it hard.) Should be OK since we have a small bin and will add a ventilator. Neighbors corn tested 31% yesterday.(Guess where deer will be when ours is gone)
Sure glad we're not milking cows. Those guys will be hurting. Milk prices are low, corn they couldn't grow and have to buy is near record highs. Not to mention fuel and fertilizer prices. We need to quit spinning or wheels with Ethanol and drill for oil!! (End of Rant, sorry)
Soy bean is all most ready too.Deer won't eat the bean pods till they"re ripe Ate the leaves off all summer.
Hasn't been this many deer around in years. I'm guessing there is few acorns in woods so they came here.
May travel to the Greenburg Show in Monroeville next weekend. It was a disappointment in the spring.
SPman Safe travels & a prayer for your sister
Prayers for those in need
Banks, Proud member of the OTTS TCA 12-67310
Good morning all, today will be my last chance to post on the Pot unless I find a computer terminal for the next four days. We will be leaving for North Carolina tomorrow morning from L.A. Thanks to all of you for wishing us a safe trip and for prayers for my sister. I talked to her yesterday and she is amazing with her good attitude about everything. I let her take the lead and she was very candid about having a terminal illness and how she is ready for whatever comes. She is a good example for me to follow. We should be back home by Tuesday night if all goes well.
We got a few rain showers this morning and the lawn said, "thank you". May get a few more on Sunday but tomorrow is clear.
Our next door neighbors have volunteered to be available to take care of any problems my wife might have while my son and I are gone. They are nice people. She came over this morning and asked if we wanted her to bring dinner tonight but we declined because I will still be here until tomorrow. It has been a long time since we had neighbors like that.
Well, got to start packing. So long until next week.

JACK,
I think you should also look at the matching passenger cars for that GG1. Your WIFE would definitly love them. Just better test them out before you wrap them up?

Good luck with the corn.

KRM Chief, four does a fawn and two turkeys in the driveway last night. Kev.

Lucky you. Corn is $11 a bag for 50 lbs. Some that price for 40 lbs.
Afternoon all. Painted my plywood wall [both sides] I built for tractor bay under shelter. 1 1/2 inch of rain last night. Got some more a few minutes ago. Had Yankee oatmeal [paste] for breakfast. Sticks to the spoon and bowl horrible. Probably sticks to your "innerds" just as bad. Actually I like oatmeal with cinnimon and rasins. Oatmeal rasin cookies are my favorite. Our BoJangles has the best grits. They started doing grits right after McDonalds did their fake maple oatmeal.
Time for lunch.

Bob,
You should see the digital cluster. There's an idea for a swap... As for more room to work under the hood, yes, it isn't stuffed like the 93-97 GT with the KL V6 shoehorned in there. Also, the hood on the first gen opens higher so that anyone taller than 3' can stand up straight and work without bending over or slamming their head into the hood.
I did find some rusted/disconnected vent lines under the rear of the car, so that likely explains the filling issue. There is also rust on the inside of the bottoms of both doors, but I'll let the bodyshop fix that.
Just a quick splash and go.......
At the better half's request, I took Maximus the dog to a professional photographer this AM for a photo session and screening for possible use in a national pet and groomer supply business' upcoming product catalogues. The business is headquartered here. Seems they are in need a conformationally correct, photogenic Doberman. For the life of me, I can't see how they are having a problem finding the right dog, unless the previous candidates ate the company's photographers. Maximus did great posing and staying put despite the strangers, the other dogs, and the rest of the distractions. The obedience training he has had is the reason. Though nothing will probably come from this, my wife and I take every opportunity to expose him to new and different environments. If nothing else, we get all of the photos they took on a CD for our own use!!
RaySP.......your sis sounds very brave. And I think you are too by making this difficult trek cross country to visit her. I'm sure she will be thrilled to see you, your son, and the other family members at the mini-reunion! Prayers continue. Enjoy yourself, and don't forget to take your camera!!!!!
Chief.....has Hollywood called yet?
Jeff........I wound up buying a 512MB card for my digital camera 6 years ago. It lets me keep some "keeper" photos on the camera to show others on the spur of the moment and yet take lots of photos while not running out of memory.
LAZ........not a GG1 but a postwar 2343ABA or an El Capitan set like yours!!!! I agree.....wife would be so happy with a passenger car set. .
Roy........I must have missed it. You have an anniversary coming up?
Banks......I enjoyed your "farm report." I mentioned in an earlier post that the corn crop here was poor. This is the first year in the past two decades that I can remember the local farmers coming up so short on the pumpkin crop. Everyone was pumpkinless two days before Halloween! Even with "imports" into Taxachusetts, there was a pumpkin shortage here.
Later, gang!!!!
Jack.
PS: Pat......where are you?

Jack, I am here on our farm.
Finally got the pastures clipped and ready for winter rotational grazing. One more load of feeder calves to go to market before the end of the year.
I feel for Banks and all farmers (many in my area) that have low corn and bean yields this year. It has been just too wet.
My crop is grass for hay and cattle grassing, but I due buy some corn to supplement in the winter.
I agree with the statement that we need to get away from ethanol.
I know I am complaining, but enjoy the life and wouldn't trade it.
Pat
PS: Great posts. Keep it up.

Hey all..
Jack / Dennis - CO deaths in my mind are Clorox for the gene pool. There is no other reason (other than stupidity) NOT to have a CO alarm OR keep that generator OUTSIDE. MY rant is over...
As for my close friend ... ex girl friend, she got married, I got married, she got widowed. I got separated, she got involved just before, she got remarried and I'm in the divorce process. Our timing was always a month or 3 off. Readers Digest version... Things Happen. We are close, we don't talk as much (her husband is cool, just jealous) as we should. Not looking for anything, just happy to see her.
SPRay - Safe travels, my friend. Enjoy your visit to the right coast...
Home alone tonight. parents are at a hockey game with sister and BIL, Princess is with her new friends and going to Pennhurst Asylum. Haunted it is. Big group from Corner of Chaos.
Sunday if I'm brave, will be meeting up in Langhorne for a Toy Run on the Harley. Meeting up at Citizens Bank Park to escort Mr. Claus to the Children's Hospital. Worlds biggest mobile toy run. Just need to get a toy and warm clothes. I figure 150 mile round trip leaving here 0800 and on our way from Langhorne at 0930. We'll see...
I'll enjoy the peace and quiet and hope there are no fire calls.

I am the monster in your head...And I thought you'd learn by now, It seems you haven't yet.I am the venom in your skin --- Breaking Benjamin
RockIsland52 Chief.....has Hollywood called yet? Jack.
Yes. Headed that way. Shake and Bake is head of security for me, Dennis is appointments, Doug W. is accommodations and Ray is financial. That is why Ray is flying here.
BTW: Ray, when you hit RDU [assume you are landing at RDU as closest major airport to down east], call me.
Well won a number 53 snowplow ( 6-18458) remake on Choochoo tonight. It should be a cool addition as it is TMCC no sound but at least it has TMCC. Guess I will have to build a mountain in one corner and put a small oval up there with this on it when I build my layout. Looks to be new in box. does have one coil coupler on the back. Guess no coupler on the front as I'm not sure if plow snaps on and off or is attached I betting its attached. Will make a nice addition. Just wish it was NYC thou
Brutus hope all is fine with chewy after the operation on Thursday to get rid of the crystals. You may have to give her a special treat that night if she is feeling up to it.
Well waiting for the tardis so I can catch a ride. Talk to you all later
Evenin' All.
Home from the museum, great run no major problems although two different engines did pick a couple of turnouts causing some derailments. No photos.
Weather really turned nasty today, some pretty heavy squalls and even snohio in the local mountains. I-15s had a really bad crash this morning resulting in a shutdown for awhile, the front axle on the cab of an 18wheeler just flat came off.
Ray, Safe travels and prayers for your sister.
Chief, The next time you do one of those DUI segments how about bringing up that Fl Trooper who busted that Miami patrolman for doing 120+ on the freeway. That gal had some cajones, not taking any lip from that fool.
Well time to figure out if we want any supper or just graze thru the fridge. Got to take care of the better half since she puts up with the trips to the museum, making sure I can get home before getting overly tired.
Catch ya'll letter.

Good Evening
45 now
We went out for supper. Granny can walk but it hurts if she goes too far. So we are taking baby steps here. A little at a time. I got a busy toy train weekend starting in the morning. Setup tomorrow, show on Sunday..Banilla is ready...S.J.
Windy and cold here on the mountain tonight. Getting gusts up to 40 mph right now. Had one hit 55 earlier. Good chance of snohio later but probably not much accumulation.
Ray - once again safe travels and thoughts and prayers for your family.
JimT - yeah, the 2.5 V6 is really crammed in there. I distinctly remember trying to put the 4 10mm nuts back on the front pulley after replacing the water pump. And yes, I believe I hit my head on the hood of my brother's car a number of times. As a matter of fact, I think we finally just took it off to do the job.
Banks/Pat/Kevin - all this talk about farming and harvest is making me miss my summer trips across Nebraska. It has been a few years. It would be interesting to actually have a reason to own a tractor some day.
Jack - haven't seen the skunk in a while, but I'm sure he's around.
Saw in MRR where someone is making bicycles w/ LED lights on them in HO and N-scale. Nifty!

OhayĆ (Good morning),
Last night, we went to the base/post exchange (BX/PX - it's the DOD version of department store) to browse laptops. My wife wants a new; our current one is about five years old so it is time for an update. We spotted a few we liked, and they should go on sale this evening for a few hours so we will go back to see which has the best price. When things go on sale at the BX you have to buy them quickly over here as they do not have much inventory.
This afternoon we are going to some off base stores to look at storage items and painting supplies. The stores are similar to our Lowe's or commonly known furniture stores. We will also grab another quick bite to eat while we are off base.
Banks - I wasn't too upset about losing out on the item. I placed my max bid so that is all I could do.
Brutus - We will not be watching any Japanime - some of it is very bizarre and we don't feel it's appropriate for our kids.
Jack - I believe the nuclear issue here might have been worse than TMI so that doesn't surprise me. However, the part of Japan I live in was not affected. Also, the Japanese people responded to this terrible incident in a very remarkable manner. There was no mass looting or any crazy criminal behavior. That says a great deal about the character of the Japanese people. They are very well-mannered and law-abiding.
Sayonara,
Joe
Joe glad your there and sounds like your settling in very well. To get something shipped to you is it a APO address? I also know a lot of sellers on ebay I have seen say no APO/FPO thats a bummer unless you have a state address to have it shipped then they ship to you ( double shipping bummer)
Evening all!
Rough and long day today but it came out OK in th end. But next week will likely bring the ol' "no good deed goes unpunished."
Joe - good to hear you are settling in. Japan must be an interesting place.
Kevin - I have the family history issue also. I got moved from every 3 years to every 5.
Ray - safe travels!
Jack - we have CM detectors as we have gas heat but they are not required here.
This is last year for son in HS. Went to last homecoming game tonight. His last field performance in the drumline was tonight. As normal our school picks teams they know they can beat. It was 47-0 at the half when we left. Felt bad for the other team.
Looking forward to relaxing tomorrow.
Have a great evening all!
Regards, Roy
