 Had something strange happen to me I have never seen. Got up yesterday to a flat tire on my 2001 Dakota so took it off and dropped it off at the shop. They called me in to see where it was leaking and it had air coming right through the alloy rim. It had never leaked for 10 years but when we took the tire off you could see porosity in the casting. Now I need a 16x8 rim and looks like there about $100.00 and I can’t find one out here in the sticks. Go figure.  best price on line is $114.00  

I had a couple of aluminum alloy Buick rims do that some years ago. No way could I afford new ones so I coated the inner surface with tar then painted over it with epoxy paint. It worked but it was almost impossible to get the weighting correct. Larger wheel weights had to be used to bring them into balance.

Morning all.  Being lazy this AM.  Animals do not understand Standard/Daylight Savings changes.  Finn was standing beside and licking me as I slept around 5:30 EST [yes, he is that tall].  That would have been 6:30 AM EDT.  His Mom gets up that early during the week so he figured it was time to have breakfast and go out.  After getting up, I reclinerized some.

May shoot some this afternoon.  Got several .22 mags I have not shot at all.

Jeff, I was thinking of trying Rubberized paint It will only be used for the spare because I used the spare rim to replace it.

Hobby Lobby. I use the Testor's decal paper. I don't the smell of the Testor's sealer spray so I use Valspar Clear Flat as a sealer.

Kev - Jeffrey already said use epoxy and I would agree with that. the other alternative is to put a tube into the tire. That worked for me a few years back. Not much to lose either way.

We are back from BounceTown and my head is still spinning,     from watching all of the kids going nuts in those air filled jump things, A lot of fun and they all had a blast! 

Roy: I am using the epoxy per Jeff, only I am using 2 ton slow dry 2 part epoxy and filing it down and doing a second coat, then paint on top. Think it will be fine and not need too much weight to correct it. What do I have to lose???

Howdy all

It went to 65 today, but I spent it indoors with Charlie and others running trains for the local Glancy  train group. There seemed to be a good attendance and I spent $7 on a Marx red obs. car that I have been looking for but wouldn't pay the going rate of 35/45. Found this one in a sellers junk box he said 7 and I didn't even dicker with him. Banilla will be waiting..oh heck i'll even toss in some rootbeer to celebrate my find..S.J.

I know most of you will be heading to bed soon, but I have been at work for about two hours now.  Today, I need to set up our cable, phone, and internet services for the house we are moving into this Thursday.  Other than that I have plenty of reading to do at work.  I was able to catch the ends of the Packers-Charges and Giants-Patriots games this morning.  The SNF game should start soon. 

SJ - I hope Charlie has some photos to post.  I'm glad you found the car you were looking for.  I had a few pre-war Lionel items on my eBay watch list the past few days.  My wife has given me the okay to buy, but the prices seem a little high to me. 

RT - We definitely want to take advantage of our time overseas.  I know when I retire some years from now these opportunities may not exist.

Cold and cloudy up here on the mountain today. We got a few inches of snohio over the weekend and may get a few more tonight and tomorrow.

Parted out one of my old tube radios last night. An old plastic AM clock radio. Clock switch had gone bad. And every time I worked on it another piece of plastic would break off.  The unit is one of the last generation of tube radios built on a PCB. But after a few repairs years ago it gave a number of more years of service. And heck, the $5 or $10 I paid for it  is worth it for the spare tubes anyway. Found a nice replacement AM/FM in a wood cabinet. Guess that will be my birthday present to myself next week.

PS - reduced the pressure to the house and faucets/showers still seem fine to me.  I'll check and see what the results are tomorrow.

I ordered the phone, cable, and internet services for the house with no problems.  Amazingly, I will be paying about the same price I was paying in the States; however, I will not have as many channels, but that is okay since we will probably watch less television anyway.  The company that provides the services for the base is also able to provide us a US telephone number which is pretty neat.  That allows us to call others in the States and vice versa just as if we lived there. 

Subbob - No one gave us any funny looks.  Since cameras are now so common in phones I don't think anyone notices any more.

SJ - I enjoy searching out a great deal as well, but I would enjoy running my finds even more.

Charlie - Thanks for posting the video.  Was that the MTH Hiawatha set in the video?  It sure is a great looking train.

Good morning. It's 65° and foggy. After the fog lifts it will be cloudy. The high is expected to be 76° and it will be mostly cloudy. There's a 1-% chance of rain today changing to 40% after 8 pm.

I did some cleanup on the layout last night and this morning. While it's still not at it's best it is better than it was. I found a tree with a broken trunk. A little super glue fixed it right up. I had dinner at my parents place last night. Steak with rice, onion, green and red peppers and tomatoes. I don't take tomatoes well and my body is letting me know all about it. As a result I won't be doing much today.

Morning all.  Getting ready to head in.   I am again on call and so far, it looks like a nice week ahead, but that can change on a dime.  I have been given a list of paperwork to take care of with the Chinese consulate today and still have my homework for bible study to take care of.  With any luck, today will be a slow one and I can get some of this done.

Roy, thanks for the comments.  We are blessed in that things have gone so smooth and fast.  They usually do go faster for special needs adoptions, but this is much faster than most folks we have spoken with.  Funny, the pastor was talking about yesterday being "Adoption Day", there was my daughter standing with pride while he was talking about it, even though she was not in the spot light, she was liking the words she was hearing.  When the pastor spoke of his being adopted, she told my wife that "He must  have come from Korea, because he doesn't look Chinese".  Funny how they only think of the world as their own experience.

Doug, I would be hard pressed to walk away from all that great stuff.  When I have been asked to look at a collection, it has been poor quality Marx, missing pieces, bent, rusty, etc.  And because it was old, they wanted high prices for it...I passed.  Also, do you know of a good media director, as we are looking for one at Sherwood.  They would direct video/sound capture for services, record other programming, and run the TV station.

Chief, I am sure you are showing Ray a great time here in the south!  Hope he has a great visit with his sister and enjoys the time here and has travelling mercies home.  It is  a good time to visit as the temps are nice.  We have daily temps in the low 70s and night lows in the 50s.

Have to take my 9 year old son to do some shooting.  We have been invited to a hunting trip and he has not fired anything bigger than a BB gun.  He doesn't have the inclination to kill anything, so this is just going to be an education thing.  I plan on bringing a camera to the hunt and "shoot" any deer with digital.

Good Morning...

Rode the Harley yesterday.  Did the Worlds Largest Mobile Toy run yesterday in Philly...when I left it was 30F...yes I did dress appropriate!  Met up with Bucks County HOG group in Langhorne and we were off to the staging area on Delaware Ave, across the river from the USS New Jersey.  Just under the Ben Franklin Bridge.  We were there for a few hours, spoke to a few other bikers when Santa himself, on a full dress Blue and Silver Metal Flake Harley zoomed by.  We were off 20 minutes later as the procession started.  Yes it was that large and that long.  We actually looped around 1 mile when we got in the procession.  We ended up at Citizens Bank Park, where we dropped off our toys and were treated to a Mummers Band!  Real cool!!  Was a exciting experience.

Made it back by 230 PM.  Several long fire calls and was home again by 9.

Today is the viewing and service for a Past Chief and 66 year member who sadly past away Friday night.  Fred was always there and involved.  At the time, he was our oldest living member.  He had a stroke last Monday and that was it.  Miss him already.

I received two freight cars today. Both are Tyco brown box models that had been retro-fitted with Fleishman couplers (somewhat smaller than those used on the Thomas and Harry Potter trains) with what seems to me a not-so-good glue as it fairly disintegrated when I removed said couplers. It appears it wasn't kind to the plastic either as it made it bubbly and fragile. I was able however to salvage the trucks. I haven't seen this particular type of coupler since the 60's. A OO Scale set I had was equipped with them.

The first car is a Tyco center flow hopper (Kellogg's 958-A released 1972). The Tyco trucks and plastic wheels were replaced with AHM trucks and metal wheels. I removed the Fleishman couplers and body mounted Kadee #5's in #242 gear boxes.

The second car is a Tyco container flatcar (SeaLand 352-B). The Tyco trucks and plastic wheels were removed and AHM three axle trucks with two metal wheelsets each were substituted. Since the photos were taken I've refitted it with the original type Tyco trucks it came with. The AHM trucks proved to be troublesome on turns. The containers have the proper SeaLand logo. There was a variation released that had the red area of the logo upside-down so the "L" was to the left of the "S" and looked like a "7". As far as I know those are worth no more than those with the proper logo.
