Hey...a little house keeping....

RIJack - roadrunner? nope no time while she was gone.  I Sunday I installed a new garage opener for the parents,  then Monday I spent most of the day sleeping. Tuesday a little side job (for cash) and yesterday off to Philly for the retrieval.  I am anxious to get back to working on it, but the schedule doesn't look good.  And I'd love to see the OGRR thread, just to laugh my a$$ off.

Jeff in LA --- I can't speak for my O gauge brethren but I'd LOVE to see what you're up to....after all a train is a train...Smile, Wink & Grin.  In between O gauge I had HO for a while as well..

Mr Baker in Cali - yes I too was amused with your story at Knotts.  I worked a summer at Great Adventure (now Six Flags) and it was a hoot....and good news about your FIL.  I hope that continues.

I received my Stratosphere and so far I love it.  The 4G is the cats patoot.  Youtube was never better, clearer and non stop before.  I can change my fonts and the learning curve isn't bad.  And the screen is HUGE so I don't have to squint to look at it.

Hope I didn't miss anything...if so, feel free to rant...I'll take notice!

Jeff, V8, and all.....I was amused with the derogatory comment about the POT trivia.  H-E-L-L-O........that is what the POT is for!!!  A place for non-train related stuff.

Some people don't seem to know the definition of 'Off Topic Thread' or the meaning of 'A place to discuss things other than trains'.

Speaking of trains, I've been busy today weighting and weathering freight cars, all HO stuff. I won't bore you with descriptions or photos. I still have a gondola that needs body mounted couplers so I better get started on it.

Good morning all, nice cool weather today which makes for comfort in train room/garage.  Went in there for a little while last night and ran a few.

V8, thanks for the wishes for a good trip.  It's still a way ahead (ll-5-11) but we are getting anxious.  Son who will travel with me is on a trip of his own this week to visit a friend in Oregon.

Thought I saw some post about Gadhafi being caught?  Haven't looked at the news lately.  didn't notice anything in the paper today.  Main story was about more violence in Mexico.  This time in Veracruz.  The tourist business down there must be bad by now.  You couldn't pay me to go there.

What a bizzare story of the wild animal farm in Ohio let loose.  Jack Hannah on TV yesterday talking about bad laws in the state for possesion of exotic animals.  Too bad they had to shoot all those tigers but what else could they do.  They shot a 300 LB cat with a tranquilizer gun and were almost attacked because the drug takes too long to work.

Kevin, condolences on the loss of your K nine friend.

Went out to dinner last night after which we were driving around a dark parking lot.  My windshield fogged up so I turned on the defroster.  Before it cleared up I ran over a curb and caused a loud bang in the front of the car.  No obvious damage and car seems to drive OK now.  No alignment problem that I can detect either.  Just hope I didn't break a motor mount or something.  This particular parking area is like a mine field.  I learned the hard way.

Jack, kudos for your dog's performance.

Have to check on whereabouts of my Thursday night train friends to see if we are getting together tonight.

Talked to ailing sister again yesterday.  Looks like we will have a small family reunion when I get there since some other family members are coming too.  We are planning on having Eastern North Carolina Bar-B-Que and seafood while I am there.  Looking forward to that.

later,

Ray

Aloha from a cold, wet and windy Crystal Lake. Jack, congratulations to Pam and Maximus! Lake Michigan is choppy with nice big waves but nothing like some storms of old... there's some forecaster hype involved. Kevin, $189 for that Soo set at Menards is a good deal. They have another one this year. Dennis, have fun with that iPad. There's a nice Trainz simulation.

Good Mornin' Ya'll from Rainy Taxachusetts,

Looks like my weather is everyone's weather.  Rain is expected to be with us until later in the day while the landscapers all my neighbors use are out fighting the elements.  The mower and leaf blower show must go on, regardless.

Jeff, V8, and all.....I was amused with the derogatory comment about the POT trivia.  H-E-L-L-O........that is what the POT is for!!!  A place for non-train related stuff.

A heartfelt thank you guys for all of the congrats for my wife's and Maximus' victory.  I am but her humble servant in all of this and am responsible for some training as well, though the wifey is the one who steps into the public eye and the competition ring and does all of the formal training with the dog trainer(s).

Rich, SP Ray, and some of you Yorkies........looks like all of you beat the airline price increases.  Thumbs Up

Brent......I was just teasing you about getting a dog.  They can be  a lot of work, a lot of responsibility, a lot of additional cleaning up around the house, and a lot of money..... under the best of circumstances.  You don't need to add the burden of policing a dog's and a young child's interactions either.   BTW........there is no such thing as a dog that does not trigger allergies.  Some are just better than others around folks with allergies (to fur, hair, and the dog's saliva).

DougDG and Chief..........training me is useless.  At least with the dog the wife can see some substantive progress.  Whistling

DougDG and Chuck.........progress is progress.   And I am sure glad both of you are moving in the right direction.

Kevin........the hurt of losing a cherished dog?  These wounds cut deep, and they don't fade quickly.  But a new addition helps one focus ahead instead of behind.  To me, a dog and trains give back joy and reward every single day.  Don't watch the Meacum muscle car autions on cable or you might have a heart attack from what a Shelby GT 350, a 60s GTO, and that 428 Fairlane are going for these days. Surprise  I'm surprised Amtrak ridership isn't up even more.  Commuting in and out of Boston for 6+ years was faster, more relaxing, and a whole lot cheaper than commuting by car.  I figured that out in a week of driving.  I think DougM is with me on that one.  On the medical front, prayers the Docs get you straightened out. Angel

Dennis.........we can be PAID OFF to keep our mouth shut about your train addiction. Laugh

Banks.........what a severe dilemma you have, with the harvest pitted against the mud.  Angel  Thanks for the advice on creosote buidup.  How often should one get a chimney sweep in to clean things out to be safe from a chimney fire if one is burning the dry, seasoned hardwoods with a blazing inferno each time?  That would be me.

SJ..........Granny back behind the wheel for a test drive?  That is great news.  She is fearless!!!!  Thumbs Up

Brutus......that is great news on Chewy.  Quite often these things are hard to knock down and then things go the wrong way.  Going through something similar with my dog right now.

LAZ........your fishing exploits remind me of the cable program 1,000 Ways To Die.  Some guy got drunk and then impatient, was an electrician no less, and took an extension cord out with him a few yards off the dock in an aluminum fishing boat with unbailed water in the bottom.  He dropped one end of the cord into the water and a connection into the bottom of the boat.  He was doing ok  until he stepped off the seat into the boat bottom. Pirate

DougM............looks like the inclement weather, high winds, and heavy seas in Chi-town continue.  Must be a lot of beach erosion. Sad

Gotta run.  Later, gang!!!

It's Thursday!

Which means fire drill tonight Thumbs Up !

Windy and sunny...65 right now.  Nice weekend, so the prognosticators say.

Princess came home in the middle of the Nor'easter...got to PHL 30 minutes before touch down and.....no parking.  Finally met her on the curb.  Next time, Newark....at least I can park....Bang Head.

Well my composite 2 bay hoppers came, opened the case, saw that they look marvelous and closed the case.  They really look that good.  I'll have to look into the Weaver stuff some more.  USA made and the price was amazing ($35 each shipped!).  Once my employment thing comes around again, a home is in order!  With either basement or atticSmile, Wink & Grin

Mom and Dad are on the way home from NC and I expect them about 5.  Time to clean the house....Smile, Wink & Grin.

RIJack - Congas to you Mrs and Maximus....Thumbs Up....Good Job!

Just got my new HTC Stratosphere from Verizon, I'll charge it up and activate it later.

That's all from Exit 8

Good morning all!!!!!

42 and darn right crummy outside today.

I am with SJ,,,,,,,gloomy covers it just about right.  Umbrella

Just got back from the hospital and the lasted round of ultrasound and probing. Guess we will see what they have to say next week.  Hmm

The high wind and rain has covered the house yard with yet another blanket of leaves but it is to wet to sweep them today. Hope DougM faired the elements okay up there by Chicago.  Storm

Jon, My son took The Tail of The Dragon ride on his Triumph 955i several years ago and said it was incredible. I don’t get out on my old bike much [1975 Triumph T160] but when I do I feel like I did when I was 23 years old and when it was new.

Jim, I checked out your U-Tube video and would like to know you got that 2020 to smoke that well. Are you using drops or pellets in it? Yes

Guess I will retreat to the basement to pull more wire on the layout. Hope the lot of 16 CTC lockons I ordered show up today. Don’t need that many but for $10.00 I had to buy them.  Wink

So they got Gadhafi,,,, well, good is all I can say.  Dead

Have a good day everyone!

Dennis --

Not sure when I'll start coloring in those southern states but it's on the short list.  I've looked many times at roads in TN and the Tail Of the Dragon, I need to do that trip in the spring in the next two years.

Six years ago I took a Nikon class and one of the instructors was from Savannah, GA.  He has been all over the world and was a fantastic photographer, I asked him where his favorite place in the world was, without skipping a beat he said the end of his driveway in Savannah.  He always enjoys being home since he's gone so much but he said Savannah is simply a beautiful place.  My sister in law and hubby agree and they have traveled to nearly every state in their motorhome.

My problem is that I'm just in love with the western part of our country.  Next year I will hit Alaska, Montana, Idaho, Washington and hopefully Oregon.  One of the issues on a motorcycle is the small window of opportunity to visit those states  -- snow.  Often times the Beartooth hwy. is closed in early June in Montana plus I want to spend extra time in Yellowstone and Glacier Nat. Parks.  So the logical answer is to go south in the spring, I just need to go ahead and plan and quit thinking about it.

Jon

So many roads, so little time.

Good morning all,

It is rainy in SE Indiana.  Not much going on.  RockIsland52, used to keep up on all sorts of racing when National Speed Sport News was around.  Since it went under, mostly just follow Indycar and F-1 and whatever the paper says about NASCAR.  I am aware of the sports car racing world, but do not follow it very much.  Had the regular fare on the dining car.  TBIL.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Well, back at work and back on the 7 on/7 off schedule. We are not quite observing yet but will be soon.

One of the guys got some good pictures of me on the roof last week. Will try and get them posted tomorrow.

RIJack - congrats to your wife and Maximus. No recent progress on the MGBGT. Kind of got sidetracked when I got the van. Was talking to one of my neighbors who knows a guy in the local MG club. May sell it off if I get someone interested. Just too many projects.

Nothing new on the train front but I may work on a sticky e-unit on the 2026 if I get the chance this week. It's my best smoker and miss having it running.

Laz - 27 lb fish!? You need to shoot it, not catch it...

Jack - sorry man, Chewy is doing fine.  She has 2 more days of meds and I don't see anything that looks like blood right now.  We have her signed up for a urine test on Friday afternoon to see if they can detect blood.  If they can, we will repeat the antibiotics.

Slow, steady, dreary rain for the past couple days, but it is due to clear off now.  I'm still trying to get used to some new duties at work which will last about a year.  I'm trying to start off in an organized manner, but not sure how it is going yet.  I did see that there will be a SSA COLA as well as military retired pay?

CARDS WIN!

TARDIS is ready - let's get going, banilla is on me and glad we have a seasoned driver Mike Thumbs Up

Kev,

Something tells me you've experienced the fun of replacing a timing belt on a 93-97 GT.Smile, Wink & Grin  I've had a 97 GT since 2005, and it is approaching 192K.  It runs strong and has been relatively trouble free.  I am on the hunt for at least one more.  Hopefully I'll be getting a 91 GL shortly.

Jim,

No I have never had that privilege but have done my share of timing belts over the years. I was more into muscle cars. Had a lot of 65-68 Mustangs, a 1969 Shelby GT 350, a 1967 GTO and just sold my 1968 Ford Fairlane with a 428 PI last year. Too many cars to count.

Now I am back into the trains I loved as a kid. A lot easier to work on too.

It was my son who had the Probe, It didn’t cost me much and was a good car till the local police pulled him over and tore it apart looking for drugs they never found. Had elect issues after that so the kid sold it.

I still see those Probes around here but the rust has most of them by now.

Time for bed, got to get up early go to the hospital for a ultrasound and some other "Probing". Laugh

Hello all,

Been a lazy rainy evening. Like we need more rain. Corn cobs are in danger of molding before they can be picked. The moisture in corn is too high but would be up to axles in mud if we tried to pick now.

RI Jack, Congrats to your Mrs and Maximus.  YesYeah I'm sure you had a part in it as well.

Chief  I won't sell Brent wood but Son might. Since he went back to work he is selling the treetops the loggers left behind two years ago. $15 per pickup, you cut and load

Brent. wood stoves are great but be careful. Burn it Hot for at least an hour a day to prevent Creosote build up Most flue fires are after an extended period of slow burning followed by a cold day that results in a hot fire igniting the creosote. I don't know about the availability in your area but buying soft coal is much cheaper than buying wood around here. A lot less work too. There are freestanding grates available to use in a wood burner. Been heating my house with a hand fired boiler on 4 or 5 ton per year. Plus about a pickup load of wood to get things going when I let the fire get too low. Son brought me some today @ $110 per ton.

Headed to Altoona Train show on Sunday

That's a strange story on the Ohio animals

Probe good luck in the hunt for another Probe Huh?

Fife. did you ever get a reply to your offer on a piece of Wild Wonderful West Virginny???

Bed is calling

Prayers for those in need

Congrats to Pam and Maximus.  Thought of you yesterday when I pulled into the driveway of a small bodyshop to get direction thanks to the excellence of mapquest Confused  and was greeted by two dobermans.

Still waiting on a two car addon set of Williams Luxury Lines Madisons that I ordered last week.  I ordered from a different dealer because the price was better, but I haven't even received word of them shipping after a week.

Good evening everyone.  Been a long day.  On call and had to do a small case, but late.  Got the iPad2 in yesterday and got the WiFi working this morning and loaded up with a bunch of apps.  Also have quite the eclectic music library too.  Spent some time this afternoon with some Angry Birds...can be addictive.

Had to send some paperwork UPS for the adoptions.  Instructions from wife were that they had to be next day to Colorado.  One thing the social worker wants is for me to go through all the potential implications of two special needs children regarding medical/therapy coverage from the insurance coverage.  I also have to gather a list of specialists that deal with each specific issue.  This lady is thorough....Jack, she knows about the trains, but I don't think she has a true picture just yet.  I have another purchase from ChooChoo on its way!  Regarding the wild animals up in Ohio, it has been a long time sinch I pulled the trigger on game.  I do need to get into the woods, or I will think meat is something you get at the market.

Jon, So, when are you going to color in that state above Florida?  We have some great scenic drives that would be good for you on the bike.  I would suggest you do so during a early Spring, or late Fall as otherwise, the temps will be too hot.

Well, I must get going.  Hope everyone has a blessed night.  Will probably not be on too much this week and next while Dad is here.

Mornin'/Afternoon All.

Chili and overcast, oh well it does make it easier to do laundry today. Confused

Jack, Congrats to Pam & Maximus. She has really figured out the proper training techniques, must have been the experience acquired in training you. My wife says I am a slow learner so it took longer for my training, but she was eventually successful (as referenced in the line above this).

Good run at the museum last friday, my turn to cook so it was Chili with cheese, diced onions and Fritos (all low or no salt of course). With all the lunch supplies was relegated to travelling lite with the trains. Was a great day for Thomas & Friends to stretch their legs a bit. No complicated electronics to fuss with as well. Surprise

Visted with my GP yesterday, went over my echo-gram from last week. It showed some improvement but it is safe to say I won't be taking part in any marathons in the forseeable future. Vitals are still on the low side so no changes in meds for awhile. Slow & steady is my mantra for now.

Time to go empty the dryer and start a new load in the washer.

Cheerios car was empty this morning on arrival, good thing Tony the Tiger came by with some Frosted Flakes. Geeked

Back from shopping for the wife. Time for some lunch. Dinner

Picked up the neighbor and went to Morris to fill out her list. Had to go to Menards, Big R’s, WaldoMart, Walgreen’s and Ace and still did not get everything I was looking for. Bang Head

No wonder Internet shopping is so popular. I did get a bunch of stuff that was not on the list but I needed so not a total loss.

I can’t seem to find # 2 Phillips pan-head x ½"wood screws for track anywhere.  Bang Head

There was a Lionel train set on clearance at Menards for $189.00 but I did not know if that was a good deal or not so I passed. It was a SOO line set. Did I screw up by passing on it??  Question

.Jack I am with LAZ and John::: Congrats to Pam and Maximus!!!!!!  Yes

There times when I wish we had a dog again but we just can’t do it after the loss of our 16 year old that passed 2 years ago now. So I will just have to hang with George the cat.

Going to head to Ottawa to get my flu shot that I promised I would get today and I will look at the hardware store there for some screws.

Later,

Kev.

HUDSON685,

JOHN, yepper fishing light line is the way to go there.  Not only is it more fun with the big salmon, but you can get the occasional steelhead and big brown trout this time of year.  Next year I won't have to fight the crowds there by going Tuesday-Thursday.  I'm already booked for the last week in September.

Lunch Time,

A rainy gloomy day in NJ. Better than snow.

RI Jack, Congrats to Pam and Maximus. A big acheivement.

Brent, I have a wood stove in my house and that was a concern when my kids were growing up. I a couple on years it will not be a concern anymore.

Laz, you fish light line like I do. Pulaski is a great fishing. So you are doing the count down like me.

Anyone hear from Traindood?

Have a Great Day,

John

Brent......those wood burning stove inserts can get red hot.  I think that you and Susan need to get a dog to keep Christina at a safe distance.  Stick out tongue

Nope never going to happen. Susan is highly allergic to just about everything under the Sun, so no dogs, and when the cat we have passes we won't be getting another of those either.

To keep Christina out of harms way, I will be building a white picket fence to keep her away from the stove.

Morning !!!

Rain - wind coming.  60's.

Yesterday did a side job all day. It was beautiful...a Harley kinda day Sigh.

Chief - Got a new phone yesterday via UPS Overnight, a HTC Incredible 2.  But during the process, Verizon offered to terminate my ex wifes line without penalty and upgrade me with a HTC Stratosphere, which I accepted.  They'll be here Thursday (tomorrow).  I wanted the Stratosphere because it has a slide out keyboard.  Comes highly recommended.  We'll see.  This should lessen my phone bill tremendously.

I have my TCAMG cars arriving today, they are made by Weaver.  Ordered in July.  Composite hoppers.

Princess comes home today, so I'm off to Philadelphia to pick her up.

Not much else....

Angel for our intentions..!
