Morning All .....

Really sad about the race in Vegas!  I agree surprised there wasn't more fatalities in that accident.  Those guys don't have any protection, and that track just isn't the correct venue for them IMO, promotes too much speed.

Good to hear about York, sounds like a lot of comrade took place, hopefully someone will post the picture from Friday.  We are looking forward to the Cal-Stewart event out here next month.

Welcome JeffPo   Welcome

FIL is doing better, has movement of all limbs, and even getting some fine movements of fingers and toes.  strength is building up as well.  Still has a small blood clot they are trying to break up.  His cognitive responses are still somewhat limited due to medication, but Dr's are quite insistent that he is doing quite well.  Probably another week in the hospital.  Will be glad when that aspect is over, Kay and her Mom have been there all day every day since the surgery, beginning to show on them as well.

Job Update - Worked Fri, Sat and Sun nights again.  Friday I was strategically placed in front of barricades and cones at the entrance of a driveway tor a closed lot.  I even had a dialog I needed to learn, "2nd Driveway on the Left", if anyone asked ANY question that was my response.  I had training for about 20 minutes and was "tested" by 3 members of management before being allowed to be left on my own.  After about 20 minutes on post, realized that I could have been replaced by a "Wig-Wag" signal.  The biggest issue I had was dropping the wand twice.  (Second time it broke, and pieces scattered out into the roadway, but no problem.  Just stopped traffic and retrieved them.)

Saturday night was posted in the ticket selling booth, selling tickets.  (I had received "Revenue Training", earlier in the week.  Training consisted of "Currency Identification and Validity Certification", "Proper Techniques of Currency Disbursement of Excessive Amounts", & "Verbal Directional Assistance".  In a two hour period (took in the equivalent value to two of the newest Lionel Vision  big steam engines,)   And I wasn't the only one in that lot, two other guys,  A few people were taken back by the cost of parking and wanted discounts, so would tell them sure, and offer them a $5 discount, "But unfortunately, due to the fact you have a (insert car color here) there is a $5 surcharge."  And  everyone was fine with that.

Sunday night was issued a flashlight and full vest, (this obviously means lot detail.)  Was expecting a more significant assignment since I had a flashlight as opposed to a wand.  Initially, was assigned to the Exit sign on the opposite side of the barricade from Friday night.  After I had successfully coordinated the egress of all the contained vehicles, I was dispatched to the neighboring crosswalk, (hence the flashlight), but after 20 minutes of controlled management, was removed from that assignment, due to lack of training.  (As a novice, I was complemented for service due to prevention of any bodily harm to pedestrian traffic, and optimized traffic flow.)  Was subsequently reassigned to  "End of Road Awareness Guidance", initially I was concerned about the non-significance of this assignment, but soon realized how critical it was.  IF any of the guests (STUPID A** DRIVERS), were to proceed straight, they would have collided with the west coast replica of Independence Hall !!!  So, not only was I protecting and watching out for their lives, but also protecting a small piece of Americana.

OH !!  Also received a paycheck for the first week of work, (couldn't believe I was actually getting paid as well!)  I earned enough from the first paycheck I could buy either a MTH crossing signal, or possibly a Artista crossing guard for the layout.

Hope everyone has a great day!!

Chief,   Please, Please check this out.  Deer Hunting

MONDAY!  YEEECH.....!

It has been a long day already.  Abed at 1130 PM then up again at 0230 for shower and trek to Philly to drop off the Princess at the airport for her 0530 flight.  Left there at 0545 after plane defied gravity and then headed to Trenton for Unemployment Orientation Bang HeadBang Head.  Stopped in Ewing for a breakfast stop and a coffee.  My appointment was at 0845, I arrived at 0730..... This is a  waste of taxpayer money in my estimation, but several of my impound-mates had no idea how to fill out a form and/or what was printed on the BACK of the form...or how to fill said form out.  Just arrived home.

Mike C - It's tough to loose such a competitor like Dan Wheldon.  In drag racing we've lost a few...Scott Kalitta 2 years ago, right here at Englishtown is one.....it is sad, indeed.

JeffPo - Welcome

KRM - nice wiring - once I get my own place, I'll be looking at your pictures for inspiration (yes, I AM a sloppy wiring expert)

Off for a nap - the sun is shining and a bit breezy and I'd LOVE to go ride the Sporty, but I need a nap.....Zzz...

catch up later...

OH!! PS Chief....

Aloha. Couldn't figure out the forum over the weekend so here I am. Fall has fallen - after a near record 9 days of full sunshine, we had a little rain over the weekend and sun again today but about 30 degrees colder. Brrrrrr. Went to my first Blackhawks hockey game on Sat. night. My boy is a big Bruins fan so he was happy with the outcome.Got home too late so lazed around after church yesterday. Laz, Go Bears! This Sunday in London...  Chief, I love to watch 'my' squirrels figure out the various bird feeders we have and fight over the nuts they find. They're pretty smart. Jack, don't you have any coyotes to take care of the rabbits? Kevin, nice layout - I admire clean wiring - not being able to do so myself. Smile Happy Pre-anniversary! Welcome back, JeffPo. Sounds like a nice York, Roy and Fife and JohnBrutus, your home-improvement adventures sure are inspiring me ... to call a professional. Big Smile  Mike C, RIP DW. Open-wheel racing is sure scary.

Good morning all,

Well kind of cool today in mid, north central Illinois, only 43 out there. Just having my Cheerios, upgraded to Honey Hut this week, found them on sale. You know they are a lot better.Thumbs Up

I finally have given up and am going to see a doctor about this foot that I have had what I thought was the gout in for now one day more than a month. Hobbling around like some kind of old coot. Oh wait I am an old coot.  Smile, Wink & Grin  Guess we will see what he has to say, hope he can give me something so I can walk halfway good. We are going to the WI. northwoods this weekend to celebrate 29 years of being together and 25 years of marriage and if I can’t walk that will suck so ,,, well she will just have to carry me.  Surprise   Thought we could drive down to the train show in Green Bay it is only about 65 miles south of where we will be but I have to be able to walk better than now.

When I get home from the Dr. apt I guess it will be back to the basement to do more wiring on the layout. At least I don’t have to walk around a lot doing that.

Hey Jack, I have found that rabbits are an easy kill because they can’t make up their mind what they want to do but I have not had to shoot any as of late because our cat George gets them first.  Mischief

Fifedog, thanks for the encouragement. I am getting excited now that the elect is getting installed and I can do more just sitting on my rear.

Heading to the post office now to get those Super O bus bars in the mail I need to send to Bali.

You guys all have a good day,

Kevin

Mornin' boys.  Cool and gray here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Didn't accomplish much yesterday, except eating and watching the RAVENS.  Oldest princess's beau got scammed on football tickets off Craigslist...live and learn.  Fifepup said he wasn't focused in school.  I established this easy equation: E=no DL.

cheapclassics - Read your post last night, and after watching various videos, it was remarkable only one fatality.  Horrible outcome.  That's why you'll never see Formula 1 at an oval.

Krm - Thanks for sharing your layout pics.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a dark and cold 48 degrees. Looks like a nice day with sunshine and 70 degrees.

Today is a busy day. Wife has to do some grocery shopping and I have a bunch of paperwork to do. Bills are starting to come in from my hospital stay.  Can't complain too much, I'm still alive.

Dining car is here with Cheerios for breakfast.

Y'all have a great Monday.

Good Evnin' Ya'll From Fall in New England,

Wife went shopping this afternoon while I "volunteered" to stay home and watch football guard the homestead.  Whistling  I needed to recover as the wifey and I had the granddaughters yesterday afternoon and evening.  All I have to do is take them to Dairy Queen, and the next thing I know I am King of the planet.  Laugh

Brutus.......hope the meds have started to do their magic and that Chewy is feeling better.

Welcome Jeffpo!!!!!!! Welcome

Kevin........ Smile, Wink & Grin  We have killer bunnies that have taken up residence on the edge of our property, but our fearless and faithful dog keeps them on the run.  The rabbits are getting pretty big, and fat.   They are either dangerously bold or downright stupid because they don't bolt early in the confrontation and the pup gets pretty close.  The E-fence is an amazing device......have had one for 12 years over the course of 4 dogs now and they work like a charm keeping the dog safe and sound on the property.

Chief.......glad to see/hear you slowed down this weekend.  Whistlingj

Kevin - that is a great wiring job and I like your layout Thumbs Up

My back hurt today up between my shoulder blades, I guess from scrubbing the overhead stuff on the front of the house yesterday - eves and gutters, etc.  We just had a slow day today - went to church, had lunch out at Red Robins, then came home and did laundry, cooked some pork steaks in the roaster for dinner, and played on the X-box.  Two friends who have been gone for a while showed up and we talked very late, so sorry I missed you SJ.

York sounds fun - maybe I'll go some day.

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Good afternoon,

The CTT group, as Fife noted, was rather small at York, but I thought the overall crowd was up from the past few.  Had a great time walking the halls with Roy.  As I get older the halls seem to get longer! Didn't buy much this year, two new cabooses, a Reading Extended Vision caboose and a PRR with train phone antennas lettered for the Buckeye division. A few other odds and ends. It rained off and on both Thursday and Friday so the outside food vendors had a bad week. If you timed it right you could get between buildings without getting too wet.

Evening all! As John said - John and I had a great time wandering around the halls. John and I tend to move along at similar speed and admire the same stuff. I bought a few items and like Fifedad - spread the purchases around. There were a lot of people there with a lot of cars parked in the field North of the grandstands/track for the first time in many years - in spite of persistent showers. It was very hard to walk through the halls and sometimes we skipped a few rows as they were completely clogged. I picked up a great deal on some Bachman Williams 0-27 Alco Santa Fes (Trainland), a brand new small girder lift/bascule bridge, the Lionel NYC old style track inspection car (Nicolas Smith), a couple of Lionel NYC cabeese, and a PW Lionel two dome Sonoco tank from Don DMUinCT. Also picked up a few die cast cars and an old Dinky fork lift. Fifedood updated us on his real estate holdings efforts and Mitch opined about LAZs impending retirement. John and I went to the Legacy breakfast Friday morning at Alexanders and had a good time - Marty E and pals hosted the event and Mike Regan came by and spoke about the new Legacy features (i.e. how the IR loco to embedded track waypoint communicator link works - shows fuel levels among other things). Marty is doing good but has not had time to post to the forum.

Neck is better and therapy starts this week. Got pretty tired each evening but the pain was manageable/tolerable.

Ray - Happy belated B-Day! Happy B-Day

Jeffpo - Welcome!!! Welcome

Chief - I am several days behind - whats up??? Huh?

Kevin - nice work on the wiring Yes

Another trip out of town this week so may not be posting until next weekend.

Have a great evening all!

Regards, Roy

WOW!!! I got in...how did that happen?

Good Sunday Morning guys!

The parents are in NC for a short stay in heaven.  They really want to be REBS.

See ya in a few

Well, busy day.  Pulled out a trailer [5X8] that I built years ago.  Been stored under the shelter for about 6 years without being used.  Going to sell it.  In the way.  Rearranging the shelter.  Moved tractor to that bay.  Gives me big bay for table saw and drill press.  Took the big pig cooker to the lake.  That and moving cultivators [with fertilizer distributor] gives me room for my new big trailer to go next to Crappie Jon boat under the other two bays.  Getting old bushhog out of its bay and that will let the bottom plow, planters and three point hitch forklift sit next to disk.  Will sell bushhog as have not used it in years.  Things will look a lot neater.  Wifey has three pieces of furniture stored under there.  Told her it had to go!!!!

Killed more fire ants at the lease but not as many hills as earlier.  Went to the "low income housing" [Miss Dorothey, Rickie who is unemployed and two vacant houses] and treated their fire ants too.

NEWS FLASH!!!  Beavers have moved back to the pond!!!!!  Angry  Haven't seen signs of them living there but they damed up the spillway.  Mud, sticks, leaves and pond grass.  Destroyed their dam. Devil  Will go back tomorrow morning and see if they rebuilt.  Got to activate the "Chief shoots the beaver" scene the gang gave me for my birthday. Wink

Did not see a deer yesterday.  Tons of tracks and some big buck tracks in the field that I hunt over.  They had eaten the corn up.  Them and one smart squirrel [not quite as big as Kevin's].  He comes out and checks all the corn cobs.  Finds the biggest, carries it into the woods and hides it.  Then comes out and finds the next best.  He eats the corn off of that one.  My stand is just inside the woods but I can shoot the full field.  The last bit of light at sunset hits that field and the edge of the woods.  That means, with my 50mm scope, I can shoot to "pitch dark".  Just before dark, a pickup drove by real slow [almost stopping].  Kept coming back and forth until it was real dark.  From my training when I helped Wildlife Enforcement, a ROAD HUNTER which is against the law.  That is why the deer wait until after dark to come out to eat.  Called my old partner who is now Sgt. over that patrol area.  He will setup the decoy and catch him.  BTW: when I came out of the woods and walked along the rows in the field, a big deer [out in the hundred acre field across the road] shorted at me until I got behind the barn where the truck was parked.  Lots of shots that afternoon on neighboring farms.  Still, all three of us had a good time and it is great to sit in the woods and watch God's creatures.

Have a great week.

Good evening all,

Well went out this morning and did some squirrel hunting with a friend of mine. WOW the squirrels are big here! See attached picture. Surprise

Spent the rest of the day in the basement working on the control console for the new layout then started the under the table wiring. So far got track power CTCs done and wired 3 of 9 switches. Next will be the rest of the switches and the nine pull out and yard spurs. Then I will remove the track and start the ground cover. Slow but sure. Smile

I think everything will be nice when I get finished. But for now I am taking a break, my eyes hurt from all of the little switch control wires.  Ha Ha Ha.

Have a good night everybody!

I watched the Lions lose a close game this afternoon. While two of granny's sisters paid her a surprise visit. The 3rd inning of last nights Tiger game was enough to know it was over so I had a chat with some of the guys, turned the game off. Banilla is ready so come on by...S.J.

Good evening all,

I was stymied on how to log in again until someone showed me how.  Two weeks ago, I experienced one of the highs of motorsports as I watched "Special Ed" drive SFR's car to Victory Lane, and wept manly tears of joy.  Today SFR was starting 3rd and I thought there might a double in the cards.  On lap 13, it all went to he!! as 15 cars crashed.  Two time Indy winner Dan Wheldon succumbed to injuries as a result of the accident.  The rest of the race was canceled and a five lap tribute was held instead.  Again manly tears were shed unashamedly.  Dan Wheldon was a class act, and one of the few drivers who truly respected the Indy 500 and it's history and traditions.

RIP DW.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Home from early church and breakfast, with the passing of my FIL there will be a change in our Sunday schedule, we always visited him after breakfast on Sundays because that was the time of day when he was the most mentally alert. Jean will mind this time for a while.

Don, Sorry to hear about your FIL, Jean and I will keep him in our prayers.

I forgot to Welcome JeffPo to the pot.  Welcome

Good morning all, third try was a charm.  Still don't understand what's going on.

Quiet day yesterday.  Looked at some post from York but they didn't sound too enthusiastic about this one.  Apparently MTH did not show any steam engines in the new catalog.  Heard something about thier die cast machine breaking down.

Will have a belated birthday cake for me and an early one for the grandson today.  His birthday is tomorrow.  We are combining the two occasions and will go out to dinner prior to the cake.  Grandson is getting a new electric guitar.  He has been taking lessons lately.  About the only thing I can play these days is the radio.

D. Baker, prayers for your FIL.  Hope he is doing better.

later,

Ray

Hey, I cracked "the code" too, Rich!  I guess what they say is true about letting the camel get his nose under the tent...

YORK was damp.  But, there was a pretty good crowd there.  Only 4 of us, Roy, John, Mitchie and me showed at the CTT booth.  I wanted to do an Abbey Road style picture (I even offered to go barefoot), but the others were afraid of melting (or floating...).  I didn't spend a whole lot (about $100), but I did spread the wealth around making 4 separate freight-car purchases.  Used the little yellow shuttle buses for the first time (mainly due to still healing).  Biggest crowd seemed to be around the Lionel display, and a bridge company that DennisB1 was huckstering at.

Fired up the layout yesterday (first time in awhile), to admire the acquisitions, and man-oh-man did the gremlins come out.

WOW!!! I got in...how did that happen?

Good Sunday Morning guys!

Big change in weather...Friday I spent the day in full turnouts and SCBA from 930 to noon then 1 to 230, for fire prevention.  Was bright and sunny some passing drizzle....then 4ish, temp dropped and rain.  Cleared up so that Princess was at work until 1130 PM.  She worked all day yesterday from 9 AM to 1 then back at 330 til 1 AM.  She's at work now.....Daddy Taxi in full swing!

Hope all you Yorkies had a great time....See ya in April!

Today I have to install a new garage opener for Dad and replace the seals in the faucet in the bathroom...The parents are in NC for a short stay so I'm trying to upgrade a few things here...but first...A NAP!

Windy / breezy now in the 50's up to 65 later.

See ya in a few

Prayers and prayers, guys.

Jeff - welcome!  Bunch of great guys here and lots of good fellowship Thumbs Up

Running really late again  Whistling

Today was interesting.  The plan was to cut out the shut-off valve (crappy and failing contractor spindle type cutoff with a rubber gasket, put in a piece of pipe where it used to be, and then put a ball type shut off up in the joists on the feeder line.  I first cut out a section of drywall as this is in a mostly finished wall.  I had to use a tiny hacksaw that my wife bought for some school project for the kids in order to cut the pipe running down the wall to the hose-bib, it was just like 1/4 inch from the wall.  I put some shims behind it in order to get at the final slices in the back of the pipe.  Cutting into the pipe reminded me of a valuable lesson - water finds its level.

This is funny!  I had run out like 20 feet of hose under the deck and pointed downhill to empty out the house, right?  Well, I left a lot of hose wound up on the holder and that was actually higher on the outside wall than the spot I was cutting.  You got it - water sprayed everywhere!  I had to hold my hand cupped in front of it to keep it from spraying onto nearby tools and stuff!  What a mess!  Luckily, I had some towels in the basement, so I was able to clean up my mess.  Man was my face red!  I went outside and pulled down all the hose and laid it down the hill to get as much out as possible after that!

Cutting the feeder pipe up in the joists was a lot easier and I installed the new cut-off valve.  I tried to do it as a straight solder job, but the bit of water still coming from the pipe was too much for me.  The solder just broke off and dropped in hot globs, including onto my shirt!  I have a big burn on my belly where a piece stuck to my shirt!  I think it's about the size of two pennies.  It just took the outer skin off and I put a bandaid on it later.  I grabbed a couple slices of bread and used the old trick of blocking off the pipe, pushing a plug up about 5 inches into the feeder pipe.  After that, I re-cleaned and fluxed the joins and it went on in a moment.

Able to move the pipe in the wall now, I used my pipecutter to make a nice cut on the descending line.  I tried to cook off the old shut-off valve, but it was no use.  I guess there was enough water in the pipe to keep it from working or it sucked dry and annealed.  In any case, I used my reciprocating saw to cut a notch in the 90 degree to the sillcock and broke it off.  I unscrewed the old hose bib and pulled it out.  The end was pretty bunged up though, so I decided to call that piece a loss.

About that time, my wife got home from picking up our kids from school.  I had my son hold a 5 gallon bucket under the descending pipe and I opened up the supply line to the house and cleared out the bread in a second.  The new cut-off valve worked well and I left the job by cleaning up my mess and pulling the old sillcock so I could find a replacement that will fit.  Later tonight, my wife sent my out to get some meds, so I stopped at Home Depot and found a new one as well as a few pieces needed to make the connection.  Apparently the local code has changed since our house was built 15 years ago and they now require the anti-freeze ones?  That's all they had in stock, anyway.  So, tomorrow, we'll connect a new hose-bib and I think I'll leave the drywall open until the next weekend so it will all be nice and dry inside and I can check all the connections before I seal it up.

Pizza for dinner and then some tv shows with the family finished my day.  We're watching True Grit, the new version.  It's pretty good!

TARDIS is ready, so let's get moving, as I could use some banilla!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

JeffPo I think has been here before.  If not, I know him from something else.  Maybe train meets.  His work email indicates he works for SAS in Cary, NC.  That is in the western part of the county.  Some other info indicates he is living around Holly Springs/Fuquay-Varina.  That is the southern part of the county.  Seems he has been to "Miss Edna's".  I think we met there. Wink

Jeff Po, Welcome to the pot if this is the first time. Welcome even if it isn't.  I'm a misplaced tar heel myself.  Have lived in California since 1958 but I was born in Rocky Mount, N.C.  Our fearless leader, the Chief is from the old North state as well.

Chief, glad the biopsy went OK.  I need to have some spots looked at myself.

D.Baker, So Glad that Kay was not around when all this violence unwound.  In spite of any gun laws or security measures there always seems to be a nut somewhere that slips through the cracks.  From what I read in the paper, this guy has not been wrapped too tight for a long time and the courts were aware of it.

Talked with my youngest sister this morning and found out she will meet me when I'm back in North Carolina to see our other sister with the cancer.  Also a brother and cousin will be there whom I have not seen in over 50 years.

Have a good day everyone,

Ray

JeffPo

Good morning from central North Carolina.  About 60 degrees and cloudy skies, but at least it's Friday.  Though it seemed to take all week to get here!  NC State Fair is in town.  I'm sure the wife and family will drag me out there with the hundreds of thousands of others.  Other than the giant turkey legs and a a few exhibits, I'd rather stay home and watch westerns on the TV.

Haven't done ANY model railroading in a while.  Just too busy and too tired.  Plus I don't have any room in the house.  We're currently looking for another place and I hope to at least have a small corner somewhere where I can lay a bit of track.

Hello JeffPo;

Welcome to the Pot. I assume you are new here, at least you are new to me, and you have 1 post.

Our fearless leader The Chief is from NC, north east corner. A nice guy, but don't tell him I said so. He has some what of a problem with hat sizes now, any larger and we may have to custom make his.

Welcome JEFFPO to the coffee pot.

PS. Watch out for that ROSEYVILLE RASCAL.  Hope you don't live too close to him?  He might invite you over for some GRITs and Sweet tea.

Enjoy the forum,

Aloha from a sunny but cold Chicago. Fall has fallen. It was 43 at the train station at 0-dark-30 this am.  Chuck, Laz and Buckeye: TGIF! Brutus, glad you got the job done without my usual 15 trips to the hardware store after buying several of the wrong (but still cool) tools Wink  Joe, that free tix to Japan offer is going to bloggers and other social media folks who are supposed to spread the news that traveling to Edo is safe.  Chief, glad you're OK after the biopsies. Blackberrys are working now.  RT, I don't remember the last time I paid less than $3 a gallon for gas - right now its $3.55. 8n, that is best pie face ever!  Don, thought of you when heard of the shootings. So glad Kay didn't go. Living near the big city, I've had a few close calls.

Going to my first Blackhawks game tomorrow night. . .
