 Brutus:

TARDIS is ready and Chewy says BARK!

Hey Brutus.........how is Chewy doing?

Jack

Good Mornin' Ya'll From Overcast and Balmy Taxachusetts,

NOTE my avatar picture change.  It is a photo of my Pam and Maximus at the Doberman Pinscher Club of Amerca's Nationals held in Fitchburg MA earlier this month.  They are receiving her/their blue ribbon for topping their class in R novice obedience and were awarded their obedience title, the first title ever for both of them.  Thanks, guys, for your congratulatory posts to her on her/our FB page.  She was reading your posts and asked: "Who are these guys?" Laugh

I am so proud of her. She trained long and hard with Maximus and never quit when things weren't going as planned.  She weathered the setbacks and kept moving forward.  Here is a woman who has worked all of her life.  For the past three decades she gave up everything to create a wonderful home for us and to raise a family.  Plus she has had to live with me.  Whistling  She finally has time for herself and is enjoying every minute of it.  I am truly blessed.......most of the time.  I have to go clean up some dog poo in the yard now.

It's a beautiful 60 here with gale warnings in effect.  Raining now, and heavier rain in the way for later today and tomorrow.  The local weather folks last night didn't need to remind us that we've had above average rainfall the past 2 months, today's 1"- 3" " will put us well over the October average.  And there is more on tap for tomorrow.  On the bright side of things, it beats the 15" of rain and tornadoes they are getting in parts of Fla. (Lee and Mel), and I can procrastinate, wait until Friday to mow and battle the leaves that are beginning to fall at an ever increasing pace.  I figure the peak Fall foliage colors here will be in about a week.

I see on the morning news that in Ohio a bunch of lions, tigers, cheetahs, bears, Chuck, JimSP, and Buckeye have escaped some wild animal compound and are running loose.  The powers that be have got a bunch of guys out with rifles trying to hunt them down and I suspect euthanize all of them.  Where are Laz, Dennis, and the Chief when you need them with their scoped hardware? Surprise  I had to laugh because the Ohizo powers that be put up big lighted signs on the roadways warning people to stay in theitr cars.  And residents are warned to stay inside their homes.  Do you think that is good advice?  Or was necessary? Laugh

DougM.........22 foot waves on Lake Michigan this morning?!?!  You need to post a pic.  News said they closed all the bike and running paths along the beaches after some reported getting knocked down by the waves.  Guess the concrete breakwaters are insufficient.  A lot of the younger folks don't realize that not so many decades ago waves were crashing up and over Lake Shore Drive and depositing huge boulders in the process!  The Edmund Fitzgerald didn't go down in the Lake because someone left a hatch open.  That lake is 900 feet deep in spots!

Chief........you are not an old coot.  You are a fine vintage REB. Whistling

SJ........I read somewhere that walking up and down stairs and dusting train layouts are good physical therapy.  Have you suggested that to Granny?  I didn't think so.  You are still posting. Smile, Wink & Grin

JimmyT.....saw the pic you posted in another thread of your two children, side by side in the driveway.  They seem to be getting along together despite a sibling rivalry over your attention.  Being the oldest, the ProbeGT must be having some issues with the new interloper MustangGT.  Big Smile  My SIL called yesterday for some advice on his next car, looking at pre-owned.  He's got a wife and our two grandchildren (read into that two large car seats and a stroller) to fit in the vehicle.  So is was difficult for me to support his current top choice.....a Mini Cooper S.  He was somewhat taken aback when I pointed out the fuel REQUIREMENT of premium octane fuel in the Mini, not a fuel RECOMMENDATION.  The is quite a bit of difference in those two words as there is in the price per gallon.

Pat.........you've got that right!  It won't even take me 10 years to get to that point.  By the way, welcome to the forum. Smile, Wink & Grin

LAZ.........glad you had a great time fishing.  Thumbs Up  Were you catching the salmon or was the salmon catching you?  That was a big one!  Thumbs Up

Brutus......I saw the preparations at Busch stadium for the upcoming World series, despite the rain hassles and cold temperatures.  You must be psyched that your Cardinals have a great shot at another WS title.

Ray SP.....love the way you keep on top of the airline because they need such scrutiny.  One wonders what they are thinking.  My MIL booked a flight out to visit us and had requested a bulkhead seat when booking (by phone) for the extra leg room; and she was assigned one.  All seemed in order until she arrived at the gate to check in.   It seems "they" had unilaterally decided at the last minute to move her seat assignment to an emergency exit isle over a wing, not the best choice for them or for her since she is in her 80s and would be the one helping folks evacuate the plane in the event of an emergency. Whistling  Just get ot the airport early to make sure what you booked is what you get.  And wear clean underwear in case they profile you as a suspicious looking character and subject you to a strip search.  Laugh

Jeffrey...........don't be a stranger.  We won't hold your HO fetish against you.  At least if you are posting here we can try to lure you away from the Dark SideWhistling

Rich........did you get any work done on the Roadrunner while the Princess was away?  Hope she is/was safe and sound down there in FLA. with the weather.

SubmmBob......in case I didn't say it before, thanks for posting the beautiful pictures of your work surroundings up on top of the mountain.  What's up with the MGBGT?

Dennis......may I assume that the social worker performing the pre-adoption due dilligence in-home visit neglected to notice your addiction, your train addiction?  Smile, Wink & Grin

Roy.......hope your pain in the neck and places South of there are improving.

Brent......those wood burning stove inserts can get red hot.  I think that you and Susan need to get a dog to keep Christina at a safe distance.  Stick out tongue

DonB.......as Dennis aptly pointed out, that was some great news on your FIL.  Prayers continue for a complete recovery, but this one will take some time.

JimSP..........we miss you!  How are the contractor wars going?

DougM and Kevin......my FIL called yesterday to give me an update on his Winter preparations around the house.  If he gets his house any more weather tight, he will have to start worrying about adequate oxygen supply. Bang Head

Kevin..........glad your  foot feels better, and not a day too soon.  Happy 25th anniversary to you and your wife! SmileThumbs Up  Hope you don't get snowed in up there near Green Bay WI.  Whistling

MikeC......I know you follow motorsports but not sure if you keep tabs much on stuff outside of Indy car racing.  Do you remember the LeMans incident where the Mercedes team was having aerodynamic issues and one of their cars tooling along alone on the Mulsanne straightaway at over 200mph got airborne and came to rest up in a tree?  Driver got out unscathed and climbed out of the tree.

Gotta run.  Later, gang.

Jack.

Good Morning

48 dark, raining degrees.

Based on Jeffrey's post count he spends a lot of time on the forums here as well. It's so gloomy here it's gonna be a stay in day. I managed to catch the Tardis last night and got to chat for awhile..Wednesday, so it's Hump Day...go for it. Us old folk are finally gonna get a COLA increase, bet Medicare and other health insurances take most of it...S.J.

Aloha from a cold, wet and windy Chicago. Kevin is sure right. Should be even blustery-er this afternoon. I wonder if Buckeye is wrestling with one of those escaped lions and exotic animals in Ohio. Ran trains last night. I need to clean and lubricate the engines - and probably wipe down the track. I've never replaced the traction tire on James - he hasn't needed it until now. I could just take a few wagons off his train though.

 Like this?

Kev.

I will get this yet I hope.

Anyway darn right miserable out there today. Cat is already begging to come back in to hang out with me where it is warm. Looks like DougM and anyone else closer to the lake by Chicago is going to get worse weather than we will out here southwest a bit. It is already raining and the wind is picking up. Looks bad for everyone east of here.

The foot is already 100% better on day 3 of the new meds. That said:  Looks like we just may get to go to the First Freeze train show and swap meet in Green Bay..... if I can talk moma into it. It is our 25th anniversary this weekend and we will only have Mark's cabin to ourselves for two of the four days we are going to be up there so she may just want to ride around in the woods with me. Devil   There ane now Black Bear moving back in up there so I better take along my S&W 357 just in case. Saw a mom and cubs 6 weeks ago when I was last up there.

Friends will be there with us on the other two days. If the weather is bad I will have a better chance to go to the show..

Jim,   My kid had a Ford Probe once. Having a hard time seeing your fascination for one of them but good luck in your hunt.

Chief, Your right about us old coots just got a hold on one thing and off to the hospital tomorrow for a ultrasound for something else.

Well off to the store to shop for some bug spray for moma’s outdoor plants she wants to bring into the basement to over-winter. I am also going to pick up more wiring supplys and hope to finish that today.

Got to get something out for dinner so it will be ready when moma gets home from work. The good house husband that I am!   Smile, Wink & Grin

 Have a good one everyone!

Not sure how this is Verizon's fault. They don't manufacture the units, they just sell them. If you want a great phone get the HTC Thunderbolt. It has been out for a year and they have all the kinks worked out of them. I have one and love it.

ChiefEagles

Banks, sell Brent a big load of wood.

Forgot to respond to Banks. Sad

Banks - I have been cutting up fallen trees in the woods behind our house the woods are all oaks and maples, so good burning wood. I just split the remainder of what I had aging and will probably need to buy 2 cords this year. After the leaves fall this year I'm planning on cutting down some of the smaller trees (no splitting necessary) and then next year I'm going to have a tree guy come out and top a few taller trees and take down a couple trees that are close to the house. I'm trying to clear an area for a larger back yard so I can grass it for a play area for Christina. I have about 15 trees of various diameters to remove in the back and 4 in the front.

Good Evening All

52 now, rain is a-commin.

I mentioned printing photos this morning because some moments will only happen once and a photo will not disappear into the unknown world of a memory bank never to be seen again.  Ah but today's world just flies along. I wish I could see what some of you guys will have 50 years from now. Granny Pat is doing well and talking about wanting to drive soon. We will see. Banilla is ready for the thingy ride...S.J.

Most of us will be sitting around a train layout wandering who are all these people, and how do you make the trains go!

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a rainy 48 degrees. Suppose to rain all day.

Today is a good day to stay inside and read. I think I will do that. A few chores and then I will relax. Exercises to do first.

Dining car is here with the usual for breakfast.

Y'all have a great Wednesday.

Good morning all,

It is rainy in SE Indiana.  Welcome Jeffpro and Jeffrey. Started off in HO myself.   When we divided up much of the stuff at dad's house, one daughter took most of the HO items, but I kept some HO Plasticville and someday hope to do a very small Monon layout with those buildings.  Did very little last night.  Work went well yesterday.  Soccer game got postponed due to weather.  Regular fare on the dining car before sending it on to "Points East".  TBIL and I can drive again.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Hi GUYZ,

Hope all you YORKIES had a blast.  I did this past  weekend up in Pulaski NY, fishin for big fishies.  I had 13 salmon on line but only could hold on to two of em.  A 10 lber and 27 lber.  The 27 lber took me 23 minutes to get her in.  She was running in the fast water and with only 12 lb test line you just gotta fight em and hold on til they tire out.  Had ok weather with wind and rain from time to time but temp held steady at 55.  Tough to come back to school but I only have 146 days to go.

Stay frosty,

Keystrokes !!!!!!!!!!! What are they??????????

I will try that too now. Guess I don’t need cute little boxes around what I copy and paste.

Thanks for trying.

Only reason I know about the keystroke shortcuts is that I was programming and fixing computers back when a mouse was something you killed. A few companies were experimenting with pointing devices but that's all it was, experimenting. Microsoft was a small company and DOS was king and 640k was still a big thing.

Now I better get back over to the HO area before somebody raises the alarm about some guy who plays with small trains being in here.

Rained all day in Saint Louis and colder.  Need to check plumbing for pinhole leaks before bed, but nice chats tonight with John, Charlie and SJ.  Good talk about tinplate!  TARDIS is ready and Chewy says BARK!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

I was going to work on the layout today, but I went Probe hunting again.  I saw what appeared to be a decent Rio Red 94 GT on CL so I went to check it out and hopefully bring it home.  It wasn't like the picture at all.  Rust everywhere on the rear end with about 1/3 of the hatch lip  totally gone and the spoiler rusted free of the right side of the hatch, rust on the rear quarters, both fender caps gone, it had been hit on both quarters, a homemade repair to the passenger side motor mount cradle, horribly faded paint, and supposedly a dead fuel pump to top it off.  No hope for that one at all.  I've got a lead on a nice 91 GL, so I'll see what happens.

I did make a video of the 783 yesterday, but haven't had time to upload.

Hello all,

Quick sip on the way to bed.

Jeffrey  Welcome, . I prefer small trains myself. I collect and run Gilbert HO as well as most anything HO from the late 50's early 60's that strikes my fancy.  I also dabble with my Dad's prewar Lionel.  I hang out here 'cause I like these guys. Come back again

Brent  do you have a place to cut wood or do you have to buy it?

I haven't printed a photo in ages. I put jpg files on a CD and play the on TV with the DVD player.

Off to bed

Prayers for those in need

sirjames - I'm with you babe.  Although looking at other people's pics on the web is great, I'd rather have a stack o' memories in the corner drawer.  When Kodachrome 64 went the way of the dodo, so did a lot of my zeal for railfanning.  And 50 years from now, I can still pop a carosel on the projector, yank up the screen, kick back and think about the good ol' days.

Thanks for all the welcomes.  You guys are pretty nice.  I've been out here before, but haven't posted in a couple or so years.  They wouldn't let me log onto my old account, but they did fix it so that I'd have the same username.

Chief, your detective work is correct, except we haven't met in person.  Remember I was the one with the Polar Express that had smoking problems.  Haven't seen you at Edna's, but I've been there a few times, and bought a few trains from her.  Been a while though.  My kids got older and I've been low on energy, time, and money.  But we're currently looking for a new house and I hope to have a corner for trains.  :)

Lucy, I'm Home!  Came home early, but may have to head back.  I am awaiting a delivery from the big brown truck!  It is pouring rain outside, and given the item, I don't want it to be out too long.  I am waiting on a purchase at an auction site as well.  Someone has been sniping the regulars lately, but I guess that is how it goes.

Watching a news story on the squatters on Wall St.  They are protesting big corporations, but using their iPhones, etc.  Kind of like the animal rights protesters wearing leather belts???

Jack, on DIY projects, it is like Clint Eastwood "Dirty Harry" would say, "A Mans Got To Know His Limitations".  I mentioned my Dad earlier, I am so grateful for all the time he spent teaching me how to do repairs, etc.  The house I grew up in was built in the mid 1800s.  It had a lot of needs and I got to help with just about all of them.  This will be the first visit here since Mom died.  When he gets here, my wife is going to pick him up and then she will take him to pick the kids up from school.  That will be a big treat for all parties involved.

God Bless,
Dennis

Humm.......

When I highlight I don't get cut as a highlighted option only copy. Lets see I will copy the text above and try that.

Kevin.....I was wrong in my instructions......the cursor is in place but not blinking sometimes when you go to left click and hold it down while dragging the mouse, highlighting the text you want to highlight.  But it should still work for you.

It asked if I would allow it to do this. Lets see.

Kev.

I will try it.

Place the blinking cursor at the beginning of the text you want to either cut and paste, or copy and paste.

Press and hold (click) on your mouse the left button and, while holding the left button down, drag the cursor with your mouse over the text to highlight what you want to cut or copy and paste.

Let go of left mouse button.

Lets see if I got it.

Hey Jack,

How do you guys copy and past sections of others post into your post like in this one????

Tks,

 Kevin

Place the blinking cursor at the beginning of the text you want to either cut and paste, or copy and paste.

Press and hold (click) on your mouse the left button and, while holding the left button down, drag the cursor with your mouse over the text to highlight what you want to cut or copy and paste.

Let go of left mouse button.

Scroll to the top of your screen to your toolbar where on the right side it says "Page" and click on that with the left mouse button.  The menu will drop down, and you can select either cut or paste.  Select one or the other by clicking on it with the left mouse button.

Then find go to the spot where you want to paste the text you are moving.  Click on that spot so the cursor is blinking.  Then go back up to "Page" again, left click on it again, and the menu will drop down again.  Select or cllck with the left mouse button on Paste.

The text you had highlighted, then cut or copied, will be pasted in the new spot you had selected for it.

Sounds more complicated than it is, but you will get pretty good at it after you do it a few times.  You can cut and paste from all over the place to all over the place.  Like move stuff and insert it in a Microsoft Word document or move stuff to a new email.
