Good evening guys.  Thanks for the kind thoughts.  I know a lot of folks would like to pray in times like this and while we all feel inadequate, perhaps it will give folks a place to start.
Chief, I agree, they are grey fox.  Be careful as fox have a high incidence of rabies.  Funny thing is that coyotes were brought to this side of the Mississippi because the fox hunters were running out of quarry.  Now we have plenty of both and a whole lot less fox hunters.  Another unintended consequence.
Dennis, I got to see that train on one of the "Trains and Locomotives" episodes on RFD-TV.  It does look like a great journey to take.  With any luck, I will be able to add it to the bucket list which already has too much in it.
Jack, now you know better than to try to fix a situation for a wife.  Our job is to just listen to them and let them know how right they are.....kind of.  I think it is criminal how air lines are now charging for checked bags, but they have also dropped security that would check to make sure a bag is picked up by a person with properly matching claim ticket.  Have a friend who took his two sons on a turkey hunt out west.  When coming back, their trophies were picked up by some guy who had a lookout working for the air line (Delta) that they stole them...it is on video tape and the guy who stole them has his photo already on the wall and they didn't stop him.  The airport security stated that the airlines made a conscious decision to not have security for the bags as it is cheaper to pay claims than to pay for security.
Again Chief, "Seems the French Vet [hubby to the lady who is crying humane] does not know his animals."  In that case, why don't you trap them and drop them off with the "French Vet" and tell them they are exotic dogs that you will let his wife have....he, nor she will know the difference.

Well, I must get to bed.  Hope each of you have a blessed night.  Will remember Chuck and Paula in my prayers.  Please let this whole thing be a reminder to each of you to love on your family.
God Bless,
Dennis.

Good morning all,

More prayers for Chuck.  Totally meaningless subject now, but it is a bit of good news.  For some reason local high school is in same sports conference as a rather large school.  Local soccer teams always play them at least once early in the season and then again later on.  Local soccer teams have always lost (both boys and girls).    Boys traveled down there Tuesday night and came away with a 1-1 tie.  The winning streak is over.  After spotting the other team a 1-0 lead on a PK, the local team tied it with 22 seconds to go.   Perhaps it was best I was not there as I would have had a coronary right then and there.  In the grand scope of things and in light of Chuck's situation, it is a very trivial event, but it is a bright spot.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Laz, you made it "eat" my post.  Man I was ribbing you over the great photos you had posted.  Wink

Morning all.  Missing my Cheerios.  Chuck get well.  Out to mow and then drive to lake house and mow.  Back early tomorrow AM as Wifey's B'day.  She was going up and then come back in time to teach her SS class.  Think she has changed her mind.  Would hold off but buddy rode his motorcycle down and bought a Henry rifle from Hunter's Haven.  Told him I would bring up today so he would not have to strap it on his ride.

Got to get going.  Later.

Aloha and TGIF! Another nice day here - remind me about them in Jan. Prayers for Chuck  and his family.  Laz, that's beautiful work on the house.  Seeing the old tubes and boiler work is very interesting. Jack, hope the wife got her luggage eventually. Chief, coyotes are being quite the nuisance here - more 'bolder' than ever - and they're big. Today I will try to figure out tuition bills for my daughter's college. They are all screwed up. DennisV8, that sounds like a wonderful trip. Having commuted so many years by train, I've gotten expert at picking out former sidings, buried track and old telegraph poles along the route.

Good morning all, prayers and hope for the best for Chuck.

Laz, thanks for the pics of the loco retube project.  That looks like a good size engine (no toy).  Nice work on the house too.  How about another picture of the lokie?  I forget what size it is.

Chief, did you see the TV show about Dixie a couple of nights ago?  Just wondered what you thought about it.  I remember one segment in which Ricky Skaggs, the bluegrass musician tells how his mother's fried chicken could bring peace to the middle east.  He also mentioned that they used to shoot groundhogs and his mother had a way of cooking them.  I have eaten gray squirel when I was a kid but don't think I would be interested in groundhogs.  Kind of reminds me of all the jokes about possum innards and sweet potatoes on the Beverly Hillbilly show.

Got to run errands now.  Have a good day.

Hello all,

We're a quiet bunch this evening. Or am I to early? Checking in mainly to see about Chuck. Praying for him and his family

Ate gray squirrels regularly when I still had time and energy to hunt them. Very tasty boiled a bit then fried or boiled a lot for pot pie. Also ate ground hog as a kid. Don't remember how grandma cooked it but it was good.

Been a crazy couple of weeks. Not a lot to bid (did I hear something about the economy turning around) so I worked in the field a few days. I still remember how to hook up wires.Been about 12 years since I did that.

In preparing for the Parish Festival last Friday I was scrounging some old conduit to use as parking lot markers and I ended up with a chunk of #8 bare copper stuck in the bottom of my foot. By the time I was done running the hay ride Friday night my foot was swelled as much as my shoe would let it.

A trip to the ER resulted in a soak in a brown solution, an x-ray to confirm no bone damage, a 10 day supply of both  Cipro and Keflex AND an injection of what felt and looked like a turkey baster full of antibiotics. Was told to keep my foot elevated and rest. watched "It's a Wonderful Life" to keep from going stir crazy. Saturday evening my son and his cousin drove the hay ride while I sat on two chairs and collected money. Sunday evening was a washout as we got some still needed rain. I haven't heard officially but I'm sure the take was off considerably. We usually net 30K + over the three evenings.

I did win a Lionel HO coal unloading car and the trip for it on the bay last weekend.

Lots of stuff to do tomorrow. The garden is in danger of being overtaken by the weeds. May go to the Drags with son in the evening. Haven't been there yet this year.

Laz , nice job on the addition. I wish I had half of your energy.

I'm going to complete a lazy evening by going to bed early.

Prayers for those in need

Good evening everyone.  Been another long day.  Have a case to do in the morning.  Spoke with bride before leaving the hospital and arranged to go out for steak tonight....YUM!  Came home and getting ready for bed.  If they leave me alone after the case, we have a party for our Sunday School at a local plantation.  Dinner is Quail and chicken along with plenty of fixins.  I am making some Chocolate Caramel Pecan Pies for desert.  Regarding squirrel, I have had it mixed in a stew.  Not too sure I would have it again, but perhaps it was the way it was made.  I have also had snake, and no, I don't want it again.

Laz, thanks for posting the photos of the boiler work.  I have seen it done at the roundhouse museum in Savannah and it looked like quite a task.  The one they were doing was a complete rebuild so it was a much longer project.  Also, great job on the stone work.  We have stone around the foundation...perhaps we can get you down this way when we expand...

Chief, hope you are able to get the varmints under control soon.  It would be bad if someone got rabies by getting bit...then those animal lovers can't be found.

Chuck, in case Paula is checking in, want you both to know that we have been keeping prayers lifted for you.  Praying that those caring for you are guided to provide the best care and to bring this current struggle to a successful conclusion and you return to full health soon.

Gotta run, but may God Bless each of you.
Dennis

Back at work until Monday. Was a quick day and half off, but a good one. Saw an empty UP trailer train w/ some tan TTX auto carriers I had never seen before on the way out today.

Continued thoughts and prayers for Chuck.

Ran the trains for the first time in a while. I'm actually using it as a type of meditation. It works. As the mind drifts, refocus on the trains. Funniest thing happened though. At one point there's this black object between the two tracks. It turned out to be the nose cone of the submarine. After 20 years and a couple of Arizona summers to boot, the rubber band had let goSmile

Continued prayers for Chck and his family.

Interesting night last night.  Storm blew through a little after 1am.  I really mean blew through!  60 to 80 mph winds.  Hundreds of trees and branches down, took power out through most of town.  Finally got power back mid afternoon today.

Interesting pictures Laz.  How were the new tubes held in place?  Welded?  Spun? Swedged?

Speaking of pictures, in the 'what else can Lionel and MTH make' thread, there is a picture of the Mt. Washington cog railway steamer.

Had to check a Killians Red tonight to make sure it was not damaged by the power outage.  Might have to check yet another tonight.

Looong day at work.  Running a new set of dies in the press, under 'have to' make parts sort of pressure.  Didn't come right up and run, so the usual politics started to pop up.  I'll invoke the Thumper rule - "If you can't say anything nice...."

I'll check the LHS tomorrow to see if my Sants Fe freight outfit arrived.

All for now.

Prayers for Chuck and Paula.  Prayers for BANKS and his foot.  Prayers for babies and bad knees, and all our intentions.

Mike - reminds me of an old quote from Robert Louis Stevenson to the effect that we're all in a lifeboat together so if anyone has anything good to share, for God's sake share it.

Rich - well now that I know it can be done, I'll have to keep trying Laugh

Spent a couple hours talking with SJ and backing up my laptop on a Mybook harddrive, while watching Summer Rental.

LAZ - you da man!  Great work on the house and those lokie pics are great!  So neat to see all the innards!

I was gonna do the fan in the basement bathroom including the vent and also box in some pipes in the "ceiling", but tomorrow will instead be devoted to some lawn work early on and then a family thing for my daughter, who is becoming a teenager "for real" in a few days.  Where did those years go?!

Also another project should finish out tomorrow - can't wait to hear about the finale Thumbs Up

TARDIS is ready, so let's hit that sky road - BARK!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Mornin' boys. Angel Blueberry Hill.  Muggy in the Mid-Atlantic region, after some monsoons we've had the last several days.  Doc put me back on antibiotics as I just can't get rid of this thingy.  Did get down to the yatchet this week to fix a leaky stuffing bearing and cracked fuel hose.  For a 30 year old, she still looks pretty in the water.  Last weekend with #2 princess before she goes to college.  Wifey having tough time with this.

laz - Top notch job on the house.  Can you do mine?  Although, you can keep the Amityville windows...Devil

Angel for Blueberry

In the 70's so far, foggy this early AM...was on the NJTP (0430) for a 1 car roll over in the center lane....broken rib, open wound on one, bumps and bruise on the 2nd...both dogs were ok.  NJ SP supervisor took the dogs in his SUV whilest the victims were transported.

Running to credit union, WalMart with the Princess, then @ 2:30ish 2,997 motorcycles with Police escort and support vehicles will run through the center of Hightstown on the 9/11 Memorial Run.  Should be an emotional sight, to be sure.

OK, off and running..check back later!
