Mornin' boys.  Anyone been to Patriot's Point, SC?  Is it worth the trip?  Is there a way to get there without going through NC?

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a clear and sunny 72 degrees. We had some loud thunderstorms last night. Did not lose power. Going up to 88 today with sunshine.

Today is a busy day. I have run an errand early and then the usual chores around the house. Maybe some train time and then a nap.

Dining car is here with the usual for breakfast.

Y'all have a great Tuesday.

Yes you can get to SC without going through NC... drive West through VA to TN, then South to AL, then head back East through GA to SC... would take a whole heck of alot longer though, but it can be done.

---
Mornin' Fellas.

The baby shower went off without too much issue. We received a lot of stuff and I spent Sunday putting the Stroller, Pack-N-Play, cradle swing, and bassinet. Recycles go tonight and I didn't want a bunch of card board sitting around the house cluttering it up (train boxes are in bins so they aren't cluttering up the trainroom or basement). We have just about everything packed and ready to go when we get the call, just have incidentals and a few other things to toss in and we're off. Now it is just a waiting game.

Still struggling with flying home or driving. Flying is a little more expensive, but driving takes 10 times longer. We're hoping we can get clearance to fly from the hospital so we have options. If we can't then we're hoofing it. Still trying to determine if I want to pick up a Celebration Series Lionel Girls Train. I found an original, box was probably a 4 but the train was definitely a 9+... fella wanted $3,000.00! Too rich for my blood. We'll see what happens. Smile

Anyone heard from Doug? How's he recovering?

Good Mornin Ya'll From Hazy and Hot Taxachussetts,

We are not getting high 90s like some of you guys, but low to mid 90s is hot enough for me.  Should stay down in the 80s for the rest of the week.  Got up at 6 and turned on the whole house fan to vent the attic, then turned on the A/C to cool off the house before the outdoor temps got cranking.  It's dry as a bone here, had to start watering the lawn to keep it somewhat green for the granddaughters' joint 2nd and 8th birthday bash cookout on Saturday......those were the wifey's directions.

Kiddie pool is about ready for the granddaughter's party.  Some chemical adjustments and vacuuming yet to do.  Got a couple of pinhole leaks to patch as well.  Trimmed most of the bushes and now the wife has me out planting more annuals for color.  What's wrong with desert yellow and brown?  Bang Head

Brutus........sounds like you overdid things out in the heat the other day.  Join the club.  I did too.  Everyone says it's best to take a few breaks to rehydrate and cool down, but when I do I have a tendency of goofing off and not getting back out to continue.

Red Sox keep winning despite what seems like half the team on the DL or back and forth.  If we could get healthy we might be able to win some games.  Smile, Wink & Grin

Dennis......I'm like you.  I'll spring for the preventative maintenance expense to avoid an unexpected and untimely issue.  Like many of us, I drive them past the century mark.  Tires are on the horizon this Fall for the SRX, and they ain't cheap.

RT........I like your alternate suggestion, that Fife sail and then drive.  You can't be too careful driving through North Carolina.

Later, gang.  Chores outdoors await me after this cool down break.

Jack.

IF IT WON'T COME LOOSE BY TAPPING ON IT, DON'T TRY TO FORCE IT. USE A BIGGER HAMMER.

Hey All !

Been awhile since posting, earlier was not feelin' quite rite which resulted in another stay in the hospital. The better half had a bit of a melt-down when they decided they wanted me to stay for awhile, the staff did a great job on reassuring her. Kinda funny to watch but one of our doctors had to finish a couple of phone calls for her, she was crying & sobbing so hard she was close to being incoherrent. My room was great, an incredible view of the San Diego skyline plus got to watch some great fireworks which I enjoyed greatly after missing the 4TH. Since all the rooms in the critical care unit are private the better half was able to spend the nites with me, the couch made-out to a bed and with her wrist band id she could pretty much go where and when she wanted. Hopefully the meds are going to be working together now and the hospital visits are done for now.

Dennis, Dropping you a PM

Later all.

Lunch time,

Hot and humid here in Jersey. i had a shop steward come into my office right after I posted this morning. He wanted to know if I was sending the guys out because of the heat index hitting over 105. I ask him if it was raining. He said, " Never mind, I give up. "

Fife/RT, Being on the water is better than being at work. Big Smile

Mike, Join the club on doing more with less. In the last month the higher ups moved 14 more out of here to fill in gaps at other locations to try to cut down on OT. Guess where they told me that there is a spike in the wrong direction of OT. Whistling

Doug, good to hear from you and I am glad that you are improving and out of the hospital.

Boy you guys go to great lengths to avoid NC.

Have a Great Day,

John You have to remember for most of my younger years ( 19 - 37) my job was on the water as I was in the navy and wish I still was there a lot of times. Really miss it now but was glad to get out when I did oh well kinda knew it would end this way but still don't regret getting out either as it was a strain my my life also.

Hey fife asked if there was a Way and I just told him the way he could go if he really wanted to avoid it.

Doug, glad you are out of the hospital.  Prayers for continued progress.

Dennis, my car has just hit 100K also.  Hope to get 200K out of it.  Maintenence is the answer.

We are hosting picnic in the park tonight.  Glad weather is a little cooler.

Went to first concert in the park this past Sunday.  It was an Elvis impersonator.  OK but not as good as the one we had last year.  Next door neighbor came to the concert with all five of his Collie dogs.  He had them all on leashes but it was a job to hold them when other dogs passed by.  Not sure this was the right venue to show off dogs.  I have finally remembered most of their names.  Oliver and Dodger from the musical and Missy and Bette.  can't remember the other one.  It would be easier if I called them Dasher, Dancer, Prancer and Vixon etc.

later,

Ray

Hi GUYZ,

Very hot today working on the RR.  It got up to about 92 at the TUNNEL in ASHLAND PA. and about 140 in the cab of the LOKIE today.  Had a great day with the tourist and ran the train solo 2 times today.  I was STOKED, get it?  Pun intended.  The HENRY CLAY ran awesome today even with the high humidity, go figure?  Fun time I had my neighbors show up that didn't even know I volunteered there, to their suprise gave them a special look at the LOKIE up close.  Ran a 2 miler before leaving this morning.

DOUGDAGRUMP, remember pace yourself and get well soon.

BRENT good luck.

Evenin' fellas and gals:   Hot and humid here. Finally got my tractor back from June 27. Needed some TLC. $400 bucks later, it's good as new!    Grumpy Doug:   Same thing happend to me! They got the meds right and i was good to go. Once they match your phisiology with your meds you'll be back in action. Speedy recovery to ya!    Thumbs Up   Hey John:   Re; Muscovoy ducks. How naive am i?  It just dawned on me. Mr. Moriarty could not have conjured up a more diabolical plan.  First, "The Chief" stole your little ducklings. Then he carefully raised them in obscurity so that no one would suspect anything for a new southern invasion,.......... with ducks!   After many generations of ducks he trained them to become duck spies!  How clever?! How ugly?  ! No one would ever think of training ducks for spy duty.  I could not imagine why that duck in Cape May kept turning up everywhere i went!  Not only that, he was eyeballin' me as i walked away!  No wonder he uses the title of "mayor" to hide his real identity; "DUCK MASTER"!  He probly has a spandex shirt with a giant "D" on it!   What a guy!   Another knotty case solved by Traindood!      Laugh        later.

Good evening everyone.  Heat here is 110 with the index....same story, different location as some.  Had to drop car off for the rest of the work.  I noted that they put a sticker on the windshield for another oil change in 5000 miles.  I asked the manager about it and he said that the mechanics are doing that, even though the car's "brain" and the service manual call for oil change (Mobil1) every 15000 miles.  He tells me that they are finding that the oil holds up, but the filters deteriorate.  Normal driving should be OK, but if you let it sit for extended periods, they are having better results at 5000.  Not all that much money to be safe...but we will see.

Doug, I will pass along the message.  You can check with your wife's MD to see if she can get some Ambien for her to get some sleep.  Hospitals are no place for rest...as I am sure you are finding out.  Make sure you stick to the plan and if they have you doing the breathing exercises, make sure you do those.  You want to avoid CHF.

Brent, given all the issues with flying these days, I'd drive.  Take your time and enjoy the trip.  While flying is faster, it carries a whole lot more trouble.  If you do decide to fly, they have these carriers that you sling over your head and under one arm to hold the baby.  It keeps them close and leaves the hands free.  Also, they tend to be more at ease with the close contact.  Our daughter was much happier when I carried her in such a way.  With regard to the girls train, have you looked at the Williams version?  That may be a nice way to go for a lot less money.

Had a big laugh last night.  Came across an old Reader's Digest in the "reading room".  They had a article on a group of professional pranksters.  They asked the main guy if he ever regretted any of his pranks.  He said kind of...he saw a dead deer on the side of the road one time.  He drove home real quick to don his Santa Clause outfit and returned to lay down next to the deer....just in time for a bus full of school kids to pass.

On that note, I will say good night.
God Bless,
Dennis

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI but we could use some rain.  Cooler today.  Big game between US and France in Women's World Cup today.  Winner plays for title on Sunday.  Our final regular season game is tonight and it has absolutely no bearing on the standings.  Work could have been better yesterday.  Brent and Susie-Q, good luck with your endeavors.  I had the regular fare on the dining car before sending it to "Points East".  TBIL after the game.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Not too bad here today going up to 84.  Ran a easy 4.25 miles this morning.  Saw 3 other people running at 6 ocolck.  Must be trying to beat the heat?

JOHN, I'll be there on Tuesday if you are going to the TUNNEL.

Mornin' Fellas

Things got a whole lot more interesting last night! Time's a tickin'

Dennis - I thought about the Williams set till I saw the asking price... for the difference I'd rather have the Lionel set. Smile We were given a Baby Bjorn for the shower and if we do fly that is what I'll use. On our last flight to FL there was a couple that had 12 wo twins and they used them, the boys were OK till landing - guess the difference in pressure was a bit too much for them. Still torn on flying vs driving though... we'll see how it plays out. One thing I have learned through this whole process is no matter how much you plan, things always change, and your plan never ends up resembling what you started out with! Big Smile

Brent did you goto Bachmann or another retailer on the Williams set as Marty at www.mapajunction.com has the girls sets for $350.00 where Bachmann says the suggested list price is $689.95

anyway its your choice and your enjoyment and hers.

Hope you have a good trip this has been to drawn out. Will be glad when its over and prayers still going out for you all.

Good morning all, thankfully it is cloudy and cool here this morning.  It's just marine layer I suspect but we'll take it.

We had our picnic in the park last night with church group.  Think I strained my back a little hauling ice coolers over there.  I was still able to walk this morning without too much trouble.

#2 son came home from out of town car race last night and I'm looking forward to him helping me with any heavy lifting now.

Haven't thought about girls sets too much.  I always thought that the attraction was their rarity because according to Lionel history, they did not sell too well.  Even the girls wanted more realistic looking trains.  So then, why are the repros so popular?  I suppose they do look pretty if that is what one desires and at least they are a replica of something that was very sought after by post war collectors.  I have nothing against repros in general.  The Lord knows, a lot of my stuff is not original like the big power station and Lionel large passenger station with terrace.  I could never justify spending the money for an original version of those and the repros look great!  Williams Golden memories and the recent F3's lettered for NS executive trains is a winner in my book.  I love mine.

Speaking of ducks reminded my of a dead dove I found in my back yard with no apparent injury.  I probably should have notified the local animal people who might want to check for West Nile Disease but I didn't think of it.  I just disposed of the bird but did not handle it with bare hands.

Dennis, re oil changes, I have been really pushing it on time but not milage.  I do a lot of short trips to the store etc so I probably should change more often.  I need to find a reliable local service place to do it.  I have been taking it to the dealer since the car was new and they have headed off some problems that might have gone undetected at just a lube place.  I used to change my own but I'm too old to crawl underneath now even with portable ramps.  Paying for the service is money well spent now as long as they do it right i.e. don't strip threads on drain plug and use good oil.

Grumpy Doug, get well soon but take it easy.

later,

Ray

Good evening everyone.  Took the day off to watch the kids while wife went to hair appointment and then we all had to go to the orthodontist for the kids....yep, both need braces.  Daughter has bigger issue as hers is bone as well.  Our insurance covers half, so it will not be an issue.

Brent, good luck which ever way you go.  At least you are getting the biggest issue out of the way!  Regarding the Williams set, I have seen it for under $400 at a few places, but have not looked lately.

Ray, I agree about taking care of the car.  We are lucky in that the place we deal with specializes in Mercedes and Lexus.  While they are not a new dealer, they have a good number of experts on hand to do the job right.  From what I hear, the local dealer will hire anyone to be a mechanic and then they send them off to school.  I would rather have some experience in the shop.  Got the car back and it looks and drives great.

speaking of the car, I got in and the temp said 110.  Glad the AC came on and cooled her right away.  Even if the shop is only two miles from the house.

Brutus, do your kids play Minecraft?  Our son has gotten into it and has really taken to it.  The premis of the game is that you are on a abandoned island and have to provide for yourself.  There are wild beasts who are out to get you at night, so first, you have to gather materials, make tools and build a shelter.  The name of the game is survival.

Well, have some work to complete on a spur on the layout I have been doing some work on.  Hope to check in tomorrow.
God Bless,
Dennis

So I'm standing at the corner waiting for the contractor and I see this young woman walk right into the construction zone through the orange barrels  talking on her cell phone with a front end loader heading for her.  Luckily, the operator saw her and stopped.  She remained talking on her phone and then after ten seconds noticed the loader operator waving her out of the way.  She stepped aside and the loader proceeded.   I asked her what she was doing?  She matter of factually stated, "I'm waiting on the bus."  I suggested she not wait inside the construction zone due to the danger, but just as I ended my sentence the city bus arrived and blocked the one way construction traffic as she boarded the bus.  The bus driver glared at me as I took her buses photo to send to the City.
