Well looks like I'll have to copy Fife's and make my own... Whistling

Did some looking around for the Williams remake of the Lionel Girls set... any one who claims Williams is still a great buy has not looked at their prices recently. $650 for a repro is NOT what I would call a good buy. Guess I'll shop around at shows and assemble my own...

Good evening All

80s today, yep I did cut the grass, read through another CTT ,all good issues..I had a rootbeer float but there's plenty of banilla for the thingy group so come on by..was the chief talking about stripers or strippers? I may have to scroll back and read again.:)

S.J.

Edit Brent ...Marty at Ma & Pa junction has very good Williams prices...he can be a very slow shipper however. But has always come through with the order.

SJ - yes I have dealt with Marty. His 'shop' is right around the corner from Fife's abode. I've got my eye on some Lionel sets, haven't decided if I want to pull the trigger yet or not.

Another 90+ day here.

Took my wife to the next large town east for her check up with the knee surgon.  Clean bill of health, next check up is Feb, 2012!

RI52 - Insperation for my wife's recovery?  I think I just keep picking on her, and she wants to get mobile so she can catch up and clobber me.  She is getting quicker, so I've got to be more careful.

Traindood - thanks.  I thought I remembered the Marine caboose and maybe a Navy.  I was hopeing for an Air Force version.  Sounds like I might end up with a re-paint of a 6017 or similar.

All for now.

Good evening all,

My first day back to work after such a long time off was tough and long, but I survived and should be back in my groove tomorrow.  I made spaghetti with marinara sauce for dinner tonight.  We also had some bread and salad.  We didn't do much afterwards but relax.

S.J. and SP Ray - Thanks for the MTH tip.  I browsed a couple of their catalogs and found some very nice offerings, but they are a bit pricey for me right now.  I also found some O gauge style trains made in Germany, Italy, England, and Czechoslovakia.  They are very nice too, but more like 1:45 or 1:43.5, and only appeared to be 2-rail.

8N - That's great news about your wife.

My beacon is lit so I'm going to catch a quick ride on the Tardis tonight.

8NT - congrats to the wife and to you!

Roy - Big Congrats on 25 Years!

Stayed home today as they brought over my mower, also took kids to school, scouts, etc.  Also made some time to kill zombies and I got a train dvd at the LHS.  So it was a good day :)

LA Noire looks good!

TARDIS is ready and we have cookies and cake to go with the banilla Smile

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Another sad day too.

Kids I knew.  Parents are friends. Crying

Speed and a tree do not work. Sad

Chief,

I went back and reread the story about those 3 young people killed.  It is just so HARD to imagine the pain the families are experiencing, much less that one of the young men would have graduated this Friday.  Really sorry for the loss to your community!  We will include their families in our prayers.  God Bless !!

Hello all,

Quick cup this morning,

Local TV did have a nice story on D day this morning (it was probably on last evening also) Included an interview of a 91 year old who participated on that fateful day. He included the fact that his squad was reduced from 12 to 8 before they got out of the water.

Chief, sad story. Prayers for friends & family

88,  great news

Roy, Congrats on 25 years

Chuck, email sent

SS fund is calling, Not much time for trains. Beach preparations continue.

Prayers for those in need

It is a sunny 70 degrees. Going up to 82 today with sunshine.

Today is a busy day. Grocery shopping and the usual chores. I will be busy. No train time today.

Indians are really in a slump. They need to do lots of batting practice.  Hate to see them slide down in the numbers.

Banks...Got your e-mail. Forwarded it to the Membership Chairman.

Dining car is here with the usual breakfast.

Good morning all,

The high today is only 98 - woohoo.  I was trying to get back into the work groove this morning; however, I spent two hours fixing our computer network issues.  Our office does not have a dedicated computer network guru so it falls on my shoulders which isn't a good thing.  We are back up and running now.  The 7y/o son has two baseball games tonight.  He will need to spend most of the day drinking water to ensure he doesn't dehydrate this evening.

Chief - Prayers for you, your wife, and your friends.

Good day,

Joe

Chief: Thoughts and prayers for the crash victims and their families.

Traindood: Sounds like a great recipe. Do I hear a cooking show, "Cooking with the Dood."

RI Jack: i feel your pain with the flowers.

Doug: Encourage your son with the tools.

Brent: I agree, $650 for a imported repro is too high.

8n: Great news on the wife's knee.

Joe, Good luck to your son with tonights game.

Everyone have a great day,

Wow thats sad news but I have to wonder, what in the heck is a 16 year old driving a $30K 300hp minimum Dodge Challenger????

No 16 year old should ever be allowed to drive something like that until they have a few years driving experience under their belt and can proove they are mature enough to handle it. I dont mean to sound callous but I read these stories over and over again about children driving high power cars that experienced adult drivers would have a hard time controlling.

A 300hp car is NOT a toy...yet parents seam to forget that these kids have almost NO driving experience yet time and time again I see children out here driving cars like BMW M3's or Audi S-4's that their parents bought for them and they drive them completely carelessly because they think if they wreck it daddy will just buy me another one.  A couple years ago a new convertable Beemer sailed off the road on Angeles Crest Hwy in the mountains above where I live, 4 teens were killed, the cause, yep, a powerfull car, excessive speed and an inexperinced driver.

My first car was a beat up Datsun B120 then a VW bug, not very glamourous but sure taught me to drive, especially the Beetle. If a kid wants a hot car, make them earn it. My nephew's first car was a cast off POS Toyota from his dad, he hated it but it was wheels, his dad said you want something nicer, work for it, he did, he worked hard saved and eventually bought a Chevy Camaro, its a beast of a car but he treats like it was made of glass because he worked so hard to get it and doesnt want to do anything to damage it, my point is that something earned is valued far more than something given.

Sermon over -  feel better.

You are exactly right! My first car, back in high school, was a 36 year old Ford with rusty running boards that were falling off, but it was all mine.Thumbs Up

Traindood, thanks a million.  This sounds like a great receipe.  I will print it and give it a try when I have time.Chef  I'll save this one for the Pat and Ray cooking show.

Chief, prayers for the families in Wake Forest and bless you for your kindness to them.

Pat, my vehicle in high school was a bicycle.  I learned to drive a friend's 41 Ford to get my license.  Did not have a car until I got married at 23.  I came to California from Virginia with same buddy with the Ford.  By then he had an old Crysler.  I shared the driving cross country with him.  By the time we got to L.A. I was a veteran driver.

Interesting  obituraries in the L.A. Times today.  Two Disneyland legends died one day apart.  Wally Boag and Betty Taylor were both veteran perfomers in the Disneyland Frontier Land Golden Horseshoe Saloon revue.  Wally appeared in over 40,000 performances and got in the Guiness book of records.  Wally was famous for his Pecos Bill and Traveling salesman characters as well as for making animal baloons for the kids.  Betty played Slewfoot Sue and led the Dancehall girls in a musical review along with Wally.  The show started around 1955 and ran until 1986.  I saw it several times myself and always enjoyed it. Wally died on Friday at age 90 and Betty followed him on Saturday   at age 91.  You can see them if you google on Wally Boag you tube.  There are several on there. R.I.P.

More PT today and another session on Thursday.

Roy, belated congratulations on your Wedding Anniversary.

later,

Ray

Aloha from a mildly toasty Crystal Lake where the mercury is still climbing from 97. Ah summer! Big Smile
Roy, congratulations to you and your bride! Yes We are catching up to you. Speaking of my bride, she returns from her trip today so am cleaning and 'refreshing' the house. Drinks Took the youngest to the new beach - which was a tad crowded with distracting young people, and the van in for its summer check-up (that's gonna cost me). Hope to 'negotiate' with the roof guy later this week. It sure is a great week to run trains in a cool basement. Though it should cool down a bit later in the week.

That is sure a sad story about those kids killed in the wreck. Happens here too frequently because it is tempting to speed out in the country. My first car was a '73 Dodge Charger SE with too-big an engine that naturally I had to see how fast it could go. At 16, I had no business going 120 mph.

8n, try RMT for an USAF caboose.

In all the years I have been going to Dizzyland I have never seen the Golden Horseshoe Review. I found that the show from1969 is posted on Youtube with the two mentioned above. I wonder what other shows I've missed over all these years.

Its a shame about those kids but as a kid I to had a too powerful of a car infact doubt I would drive it today if it was around. It was my second car a 67 chevy II nova that was professionally built by a friends father for the strip but was barely street legal. I bought when he made another car. My mother wouldn't drive it.

just glad I'm still here as we do crazy things as a kid not knowing better.

not much going on tonight just relaxing

Vsmith, as I got older about the only thing I liked to do at Disneyland was listen to all the music venues.  The Golden Horseshoe  was always number one on the list.  I wonder if the Golden Horseshoe saloon is still there?  They are always building new things.  I know the show closed a long time ago but maybe they have a new act or a new venue?  Not too anxious to find out at $85 admission to the park.  Of course the train ride is always popular with people like us.  At least they still have live steam.

I looked at all the videos I could find today about Wally Boag and Betty Taylor.  There are quite a few of them.  That was fun entertainment.  The L.A. Times article today showed a picture of Wally with Julie Andrews on stage in 1963.  Sad to see all my heros passing on.  I guess that's what happens when you join the senior circuit.

Good Evening All

94 today, 87 now.

My first car was a 37 ford with a 85 HP flat head V8 engine, paid $25 for it, drove it for 2 years and sold it for $50. No patio sitting today as it was hot. I don't mind at all beats winter anytime. Banilla is ready, beacon is on...S.J.

Back from a long day of weedeating the Flowers' yard which was a total mess, two TV interviews [BTW: the kids are NOT from Wake Forest but Rolesville.  seems WRAL can never get it right][not with WRAL], delivering one framed proclamation to the family that lost the son and the Grandfather who lost that Grandson and his other one is in the hospital, met with 4th of July Festival Comm and then filled the deer feeders [which were empty, yes in the dark].  Now popcorn.

Tomorrow, deliver the other two proclamations.  Not fun. Sad

Town businesess and some residents are putting black ribbon bows on their doors or mailboxes.

Thanks for all the prayers.

BTW: kid's Dad bought him a new Dodge Charger and he got his license 5-27-11.  Everyone seems to run their vehicles down that road and over that hump to see if they can get all 4 wheels off the pavement.  He did, hit pavement and then went airborn again into the tree.
