Lunch Time,

Traindood, Harold's Pastrami on Rye for lunch today. Tastes Great.

Chief, Have fun on the trip. I would have to pass going to the Ava Gardner Museum. A number of years ago my Mother in Law took my daughter and AF53's 2 daughters on a trip to the mid west. The girls were young and had no idea who Donna Reed was when she took them to the Donna Reed Museum and festival.

SJ: Thumbs Up

Wabashbud: Good luck with the heat and smoke.

Charlie: have a great trip to the Magic Kingdom.

Greetings Ya'll from Sunny and Dry High 70s Taxachusetts,

Normally we get DougM's weather a couple of days later, but not this year.  It's been dry and we have missed most of his hot temps.  I have been off the air since last Wednesday or so and got way behind.  PC issues.

Our spring was w-e-t and the mosquitoes now are thriving, out of control actually.  At dusk they own the outdoors and are ravenous.  It seems the City has stopped spraying......another victim of budget cuts I suppose.

Happy belated Fathers day to all.  We had a wonderful cookout at my daughter and SIL's.   Surf and turf from the grill, stir fry veggies, and twice baked stuffed potatoes.  Then my granddaughter and I went off to the local ice cream store to pick up dessert.  I had the super-sized root beer float!  Dinner

Banks.......you and your family have my prayers for your Mom at this difficult time. Angel

SJ........I was off the air for your birthday, so happy belated  Happy B-Day!!!!!!!!  Rumor has it you got a flexible sigmoidoscope for your birthday.  Dennis knows what they are.  Glad everything "came out OK."  Smile, Wink & Grin

JoeyD and AF Ray........I was relieved to hear that your Yankees are going to win the AL pennant.  That will save John, Laz SJ, Chuck, DougM, Traindood, and I from fussing and fretting about our teams for the rest of the Summer.  There's always next season.  Plus, I can always use theYankees'  t-shirt to clean up dog excrement.  Whistling.

Brutus......more good news on Char, and I'm glad to hear it.  I sure was glad Brent wasn't there to help you dismantling your neighbor's tree.

DougM (and Charlie).......sorry to hear about the car.  The insurance money is of little solace when the practical value of the car is higher.  At least no one was hurt, and that is what truly matters.  Would you please pass on some of that rain to me?  Re Disney, many of the venues let you make a reservation while you continue on your way.  Then they Fastrack you past the long lines when it's your time.  Look for the kiosks!!!!  We went in the Summer one year and stayed poolside during the heat of the day and then hit the parks at 4PM to close.  The little ones slept well!!!!!!!!!!

RaySP.........great news on your progress with your PT on the knee. Thumbs Up

Rich.......big congratulations on your daughter's graduation!  Thumbs Upj  Same for the safe trip.....what a haul!. As another posted, peace reigned on her important day. Thumbs Up  I can remember when my daughter graduated.....that wasn't something in my eye that day when a trickle ran down my cheek.

Charlie.........what a horrendous bite little Jack got!!!  Looks like a prehistoric monster mosquito got him! Big Smile

HudsonJohn.......congas on your son's graduation from the fire academy.  You must be very proud.  Thumbs Up

Chief........re your throat exam, did they check for petrified and caked on grits? Wink

MikeC.......glad to hear your "furniture moving" hobby is almost behind you. Thumbs Up

We seem to have lost Brent and JimmyT again.  Jefelectric too.

Later, gang.

Hi GUYZ,

Back from running the 0-4-0 at the PIONEER TUNNEL again.  It was nice this morning but was hot and humid this afternoon.  Had to have the blower on this after to keep up our pressure of 90lbs.  It ran good save for the last trip and had just that little bit of a hick up.  Hot and sweaty but the OL Mils taste pretty good.  Tomorrow back to weeding and taking care of my wood pile.

Stay frosty and watch your topknot my friends,

Good afternoon all,

Banks, prayers for your mom and nephew.

Charlie, hope little Jack is doing better after those nasty skeeters bit him.  When I was growing up in tidewater Virginia they used to have trucks come around in the summer time and put out a cloud of something to kill mosquitos.  They probably killed a lot of people too.  God knows what they were spraying back then.  We don't seem to have much of a skeeter problem where I live now.  No standing water around for them to breed in.

Temp is about 90 today and it feels like it too.  Have not gone in garage/train room at all today.  Might try it after the sun goes down.

Got some new DVD'S for Father's day.  Been watching the movies last night and today.  One was "The Perfect Storm".  That was too much suspense for me without a break.  It just seemed like hours of people being banged around by the ocean.  I also got a DVD of "Patton".  Hard to believe that movie was made in 1970.

Chief, that fried chicken and bar-b-que place sounds like a winner.  We went to one of those Pennsylvania Dutch places in Lancaster while at York and had the best fried chicken I ever had up there.  It was served family style with everybody seated at a big table.  Speaking of food, my diet has fallen off the wagon today with a coconut cream pie that was on sale for father's day.

Need to check pool now.  Probably needs more chlorine with the hot weather.  Should be ready for swimming soon.

Good news about Charlene

Later, Ray

P.S. Pool water temp is up to 80 now without a heater.  That's good to go for me.

Good evening everyone.  Been another one of those days.  Went in, and within ten minutes, they sent us an emergency.  All went well, but it has been a long stretch of long days.  Regarding mosquitoes, my daughter has the most difficult time.  She is like candy to them and she will get welts the size of half dollars and they last for months.  Ours are the average size mosquitoes, but I think we got hit with a large swarm during some of the big storms bringing them up from the gulf awhile back.  From what I hear, our mosquitoes are nothing compared to the ones up in Alaska....they could carry a grizzly away!

With regard to the bible study, all went well.  We actually joined groups and it was fantastic.  As you say Joe, we are strongest, when we are weakest...if we could do it of our own accord, it would fail.  This has really been a great class.

God Bless,
Dennis

Good evening all!

SPRay - Those trucks you mentioned for killing mosquitos and blew out a cloud of smoke behind it brought back alot of memories. I grew up in North Jersey but spent June thru early Sept down here in Bayville. In the sixties we use to run behind those trucks! Maybe that explaines alot! Surprise

Jack - No need to thank JoeD and myself. BTW, if it's called the world series why do they play it in the Bronx all the time??Whistling

HudsonJohn - I've been to Peterson's many times the past few years. The food is still GREAT! Snappy dogs, crinkle cut fries that hold the cheese or ketchup and birch beer with a sharp taste (or you favorite Beer) We go after every day game and always get requests to bring some home.

Later

Charlie,

Hopefully Jack's swelling will pass quickly.  I have had the same thing happen, but raspberry Snapple is what caused mine.  Scared me a bit because I had no clue what was happening.

Jack's eye is doing better today.  Swelling is down.  Pediatrician told us to give him oral Benadryl and Hydrocortizone cream on the bite and swollen area.  Seems to be working.

Hello all,

Quick post on the way to bed.

Still haven't caught up but I did skim the last couple of days.

Thanks for all the Prayers.

Nephew came through his procedure A OK

Mom's cancer is in the lining of the uterus, One of the most common gynecological cancers and easiest to control. If she was 10 years younger they would remove uterus. Now the feel pretty confident it can be controled or removed with radiation. They will actually place a "rod" in the uterus. At least 5 treatments. Will find out more detail on next trip.

Off to bed. Been up since 4:30

Prayers for those in need

Aloha. Lotsa storms last night - sent them off to SJ. Glad for your good health news. Just about got the new a/c motor installed before they blew in. Roy, teen was hit by someone trying to beat a light on Fri. He's well but the 2-year old-just-paid-off car isn't. It could've been worse.

Good morning all,

I was up early this morning to get a quick run completed before the heat was turned on.  I also had time to stop by the gym and have a quick weight workout.  Afterwards I had my annual Preventative Health Assessment (it's what the Air Force calls a checkup).  I am in great health and had no issues - the appointment lasted only 15 minutes.  I will be busy with paperwork the rest of the day.

Jack - I'm glad I cleared up the pennant issue for you.  Now you can stop watching baseball for the rest of the season.  Laugh

The Sox last night and the Yankees were postponed so they picked up a half game.

Good day,
Joe

Lunch Time,

RI Jack, We use the Mosquito Magnet to control the skeeters along with citronella torches and yard guard. We are having an outdoor party for my son on Sunday and the propane tank is full and ready to go for the Mosquito Magnet.

AF53, miss those trucks that pumped out the DDT. We used to chase it with our bikes. I wonder why I am about the only one left. The last time Doray and I went to Peterson's, it was disappointing.

SPMan, Out in the Pa Dutch Country it sounds that you went to Plain & Fancy or Good & Plenty. GREAT FOOD Family Style.

Banks, Prayers for Mom and the Nephew.

RT, Have fun at Walmart. Let us know if you see any of the "Walmartians". I love those Walmart People pics.

Good morning all,

Banks, glad you had some encouraging news about your mother.

John, We went to the one called Good and Plenty I think.  In addition to the fried chicken I believe they also had some kind of roast beef and something else.  I forget just what but lots of side dishes as well.

Hot weather today with thermometer approaching the century mark.

Took walk early today before it got hot.  Knee is still doing good.

I saw something yesterday on a forum about a flat car with a Sherman Tank load from MTH.  It was in a catalog from 2010.  Wouldn't mind having a couple of those if I can find out who has any. I have one 50"flat now with two half tracks on board and another with four jeeps.  Wonder if anybody makes a duce and a half ton army truck in O gauge?  Would like to have a lot of vehicles for a troup train.

Checked out a new DVD of "Patton" yesterday.  It had an extra disc with a lot about Patton himself.  I found it very interesting to see footage of the real General Patton.  I met an old retired Army Colonel once who my sister was taking care of when she was a care giver who knew George Patton very well.  It was a lot of fun talking to him about the General.  He called him Georgie,  The Patton home was not too  far from where I live now but years ago it was probably a big estate.  The church where he was a member has a statue of him out front.  Kind of unusal for a church.

Might go in train room now before it gets too hot.

Later,

Ray
