Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a sunny and calm 70 degrees. Big storm missed us last night. Just a few minutes of high winds and rain. Going up to 82 today with sunshine.

Today is a busy day. I have a bunch of chores to do and then, I can relax and take a nap. As soon as this weather gets better, I can take a nap outside, under the big shade tree.

Indians bet the Red Sox yesterday. That was a good game. In the rain.

Dining car is here with the usual breakfast.

Y'all have a great Tuesday.

Hello all,

Quick  Coffee this morning. 71 and muggy @ 7:00 am, seems more like Mid July weather. Lots of clouds yesterday but not much rain. More of the same today.

Son is busy doing field work. Ground is still a little on the wet side. I'm going to put the tiller on the Gravely and try the garden this evening.

The TV images of the Joplin area are heartbreaking. More Angel for them.

SS fund is calling.

Prayers for those in need

Aloha. Sunny and 60s. Jack, those 1918 uniforms were hilarious - we thought the Cubs were sponsored by UBS. Jim, Win7 is nice, but still far over-big and impossible to upgrade except manually.  Look what we worked on last night.

Blueberryhill RR

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

........Indians bet the Red Sox yesterday. That was a good game. In the rain.........

Chuck

Chuck.......this loss for Boston last night was painful for me to watch at the end.  The Indians didn't quit, didn't let the rain or the threat of a possible early calling of the game bother them, their pitching did a stellar job again, and they did what they had to do to come from behind and to win at the end.  The Indians are firing on all cylinders and are the winningest team in baseball nearly 30% into it for a reason   If their pitching holds up they will continue to be be tough to beat.  While Boston is on a roll, they just lost one of their starting pitchers for the season, Matsusaka (sp?).

RaySP and AfRay......I am a born and raised Chicago boy, hence my rooting for the Chicago teams.  Been living out here in Taxachusetts with the family for the past 23 years.   DougM used to commute to work right past where I used to live in Chicago, within 100 yards!!!!  And NAVYJACK (RIP) lived in my neighborhood where I was born and spent my first 3 years..

DougM.......While the Cubs and the Red Sox haven't played each other since WWI, ya gotta admit those Boston throwback uniforms from 1918 have to go down amongst the top 5 worst ones in baseball.  The players looked beyond simply silly.  Thanks for the pic of your boy.  His smile says it all. Thumbs Up

Fife........you always make me laugh.  Your alligator reference was classic.  Reminds me of the father telling his daughter's date with a straight face "I don't mind going back to jail again.  I'm used to it."  Smile, Wink & Grin

Question:  will someone please tell me what to say to a friend or a relative who calls you for advice again and again over time on the exact same concern, takes no action, and repeats the refrain over and over again.  I think I am stuck in Ground Hog Day (the movie) syndrome.  Tempted to say "Well, how is doing nothing for the past year working out for you?"  Or change my response and say "I don't know" and just shut up.

JohnB........thanks for your condolences on what our weather here across the pond has been doing to the victims and families of these violent and unforgiving Mother Nature events.  It doesn't seem like we can cut a break.  They just keep coming.  Makes me thankful I don't have much more than some snow, cold, and now some persistent rain to deal with.  I whine about not being able to mow some stupid grass while people are dying and/or losing all of their earthly possessions and/or losing their livlihood.  I need to slap myself upside the head and get some perspective.  They are still pulling survivors and the not so lucky from the rubble in Joplin MO.  Angel

One thing we don't have to contend with at the present time is volcanoes.  Thumbs Up

8N........hope your wifey is not trying to gut it out and go cold turkey with the pain meds.  Back behind the wheel of a car?  Yahoooooo!!!!!!

Brutus.......Jim, that MO. storm had us worried about you and yours.  Part of that same front moved North and East toward my FIL and DougM.

JoeyD.......I can treat my entire property (on short money) for weeds in about an hour if I am organized and hauling.  Ortho now has some long lasting formula now that keeps a lid on the "dead"  for up to three months.

SubmmBob........any updates on the Corvair van?

Yes, where is Spanky?!?

MikeC........is it my imagination, or have the Indy qualifyig times been flat the past few years?

Later, gang.

Lunch Time,

Miracles will never cease. We are having our safety picnic/lunch reinstated after a few years of budget cuts. I can not remember the last OSHA we had at this location. We had 1 MVC, and it was years that we had one before. The MVC was definitely not our guy's fault. He was waiting for the gate to open at an urban location in North Jersey and a resident decided to drive down the sidewalk and hit the bucket truck broadside. You can not make this up.

Chuck, I see that you are a Certified Member and I see the distinquised officers' names on it.

Rich, That was a real surround and drown.

Pat, wadda ya mean, dat is a legit bizness. We uze wat uze called the limo to taka da gees to woik.

Joe, Providence was with you and the tornado.

What a wild day!!!  Power went off last night at 9:45pm and was not restored until 11:00am today.  I must admit those new LED flashlights are great!!!  I'm going to buy two or three more.  We used the old Sony Walkman with plug in speakers for a radio.  The battery backup in the weather radio worked perfect informing us of the tornado warnings north and west of Roger's Corners.  Moved the meat from our freezer to the neighbors beer cooler powered from a generator.  Big Smile

Speaking of beer, I think I might go get a cold beer brewed in Ohio with a big bowl of Ohio grown pop corn covered with creamy Wisconsin butter.

Cloudy, rainy & 70's again today.

Got the hatches battened down 'cause there is a bunch of red showing up on the radar up wind from us.  Gonna be an interesting night.

Wet spot still on the basement floor.  Could be rain getting in from outside, could still be an internal source.  Will have to have a dry spell to know for sure.

All for now.

Buckeye - glad you guys are okay!  No bad storms here for a while, they have all been North or South of us?  The images from Joplin are terrible.  A lady at work has a relative there and drove out there to find her.  She found her alive, but also found a dead body while looking for her and said there were bodies everywhere Sad  Prayers for them all and all who have been hit by storms this year.

Still checking out the IVOR stuff online, some neat stuff for such a primitive cartoon.  There was some real talent behind it, that's for sure Thumbs Up  John Baker - I sent you email replies, but guess your filter is killing them?

Evening all!

Bad storms here. Heavy rain, hail, possible tornadoes, but apparently nothing serious formed so far.

My daughter went with friends to the Rangers game in Arlington - they just evacuted them to lower levels of stadium (normally non-public areas - huge tunnels under there - saw it when I took a tour years ago). Report was baseball size hail - but it was only golf ball size and smaller. Not sure when she is getting out of there since storms between us and them.

Spent entire day starting at 4:45 am with cancelled flights. Rented a car and 3 of us drove from Austin back to Dallas. Worked in the car with cell phone and PC so not much time missed. Missed a face-2-face meeting in Kansas due to cancelled flights, but we made it to office in time for a make up conf call. Have business cohorts stuck all over midwest due to cancelled flights. At least a couple of us got home tonight. Hope all are safe out there.

Tired - long day.

Regards, Roy

Good morning all,

Weather (lightning) may postpone opening game of soccer season.  RI52, they have tried to hold speeds constant the past 15 years and have succeeded so far.  Track record of 237 was set in 1996 and likely will never be beat.  Race record could be broken if they have a race with few or no cautions.....(pause for loud laughter here).  Interesting combination of efforts with Andretti and Foyt joining efforts.  Perhaps it is well my dad did not see this although AJ has had two Andrettis drive for him in the past (Jeff and John).  Local sports columnist was teeing off on the deal but such transactions have been occurring almost since the race started.  TBIL after the game.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Good Morning,

Thoughts and Prayers for all of the tornado victims.

A quiet day here so far. Quiet is good.

AF53, Ray, another package arrived.

Got home late from the Antique Truck Club meeting last night. We were working on plans for the show in September.

I should make the Tardis tonight.

Have a great day,

Aloha. Thunder storm moving through the Loop. Doesn't encourage me to go outside to another building for a meeting in a few minutes. Smile. Finished up last campus-based class of the quarter. I have a few more online that go until June. Not teaching in the next term for the first time in... forever. Will miss the cash but appreciate the time. Stay safe.

Good morning guys.  Been away for a few days, on call and been getting hit hard.  Thanks for the thoughts on the adoption.  At this point, I am just open to what God's will is for us.  If He wants us to have more, they will come....for the time being, we will pray about this.

Joe, thanks for the thoughts on our daughter's graduation.  You are right, they grow too fast.  After the test, I had to head into the hospital.  Wife and kids toured the schools and were most impressed.  We have thought about home schooling, but wife doesn't have the confidence in her abilities.  We are happy with this school system.

Glad Jim is OK and everyone else checking in.  Having our friendships all across this great land (and across the pond (JohnB)), makes such disasters a more  personal concern.  Please pray for the folks having to endure these issues.

Well, time to get things together and head in.  Hope that everyone has a blessed day.

Blueberryhill RR

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

.......Indians got beat last night by Boston. Maybe we will win today. Indians are 30 & 16......

Chuck

No worries over the long haul, Chuck.  The Boston Red Sox lost their  #4 starting pitcher for at least the rest of the season.  That bodes well for your Indians and SJ's Tigers who are dealing Tampa Bay with a come uppance this week, provided we all get to the MLB postseason.

Don't know what happened, but the Sun has returned for the time being and we hit 84 here yesterday.

Dennis......you hit home with your post, so much misery.  And with many guys here on the forum in harms way, you can't help but think about it.

Home schooling to me is a two edged sword in my mind.

Your wife can beat the classroom setting every time from a book-learning and self discipline perspective.  But isn't home schooling missing the social interaction and the conflict resolution skills a child develops amongst the classmates?  That is what has me wondering.

My folks sacrificed to the bone to send my sisters and I to private schools.  But my Dad used the vast differences in our classmates to teach us life's lessons.

Some kids were mentally challenged.  Some were physically challenged.  Some had more "things" than we did and some less, family financial dynamics.  Different religions.  Some families provided the better clothes and some would/could not.  There were the heartaches of being excluded by the "popular" kids' clique.  The social benefits of a coed environment.  There were the after school, at home discussions about bullies and how to handle them.  Sex.  drinking.  Respect for others.  There were the self-confidence issues about not being picked for the playground games and sports.  There were the discussions about conduct, good and bad.  The list goes on.

Can one adequately replace all of that with after school activities and hobbies?

Later, gang.

Jack
