Lots to 'absorb' - thanks, Jack.

Just to give you all a heads-up. Yup, it's on  'my' Metra line that a inbound scoot hit a truck today and panicked riders bailed out of the emergency windows.  I'm sure this bigtime delay my commute home ... and on a Friday too. Ah well.

Good evening everyone.  Getting ready for bed.  Both kids took a power nap after school today and so they stayed up late tonight.  Daughter has her final recital for ballet tomorrow.  Wife and I took care of some cleaning up duties to prepare for guests.

Mike C., congratulations about Lucas.  Quite a thing for you to be sharing with us.  We have all shared in your tough times with Lucas  and his health struggle, and now, this wonderful announcement.....it is like he has grown up on all of us.  Fantastic!

Jack, the new Nikon bodies can be used with just about every lens they have made (with few exceptions).  There are a few exceptions, and even if you wanted to use some older lenses that have only manual capabilities, you can still get great shots from them.  I have some high dollar glass from before digital and still use them.  I have both a Swarovski 800mm lens and a 1100mm lens that are great.  I think I shared some photos of a full moon here some time ago taken with one of these.  I also have some prime lenses that are great, but not your every day walk around deal.  One of my favorite lenses is a 80-200 F2.8 that is fantastic.

Chief, thanks for the update!  You really are a great guy.  Glad to call you friend.

Hope each of you is blessed this weekend.
Dennis

Good morning or good evening all  (depending on your time zone)

Been reall busy at work the past couple of weeks and it' hard keeping up with all thats going on.

Traindood - Anytime you want an autograph you can have one! I guess one of the best thing about sports is that we kinda feel that we are a part of the team. So when we win we feel up and when we lose we feel down. Either way we feel part of the group well enough to say "WE" all the time.

SP Ray - By now you might be home resting, good luck. Hope all goes well!!!

Hudson John - We are all proud of you kids, and now that my nephew has been honored with this award we can finally admit he's a chip off the old uncle's block!! I wanted to clean out your house the other day while you weren't home, because a "special" Wink delivery came, but your wife said I needed to wait until you got there! Not fair!

Joe - I don't know what's been happening but we better straighten out fast as the team to the nawth just beat us.

Jack - Just wait for tomorrow night on Fox.

Mike C - That's good news! Tell Lucas we all wish him well!

Laz - My niece and my daughter are counting the days along with you!

Chat later!

Good mornin' Ya'll,

Can't sleep so I thought I'd catch up on the POT.  Red Sox beat the Yankees.  Smile, Wink & Grin  Cubs and White Sox won too.  Thumbs Up

Dennis.......I've got the 80-200MM lens too, but I can't recall the F number.  There were two at the time.

RaySP......hope you are resting comfortably and that the knee repair went without a hitch.

RT.......did you get your remaining hedges trimmed?  Whistling  I need to replace a garden hose as well.  If you buy a hose caddy, you can move them around fairly easily.

DougM......don't get impatient with the weed control products.  The weeds will start curling up in 2 days and will be gone in about two weeks.  With those fire thistle weeds, they are tough suckers and take longer to eradicate.  I hit them probably 3 times with the Ortho spot products, about every 5 days.  I can't afford to not annihilate them because of the dogs and kids.

Off to bed.

Jack

Aloha. Thanks SJ!  Wish I could be there. I love birthdays. Can't wait to get my presents. LOL.  I would like to go to the Illinois Railway Museum but it's dark, cold and looks like rain. Maybe we'll go anyway Smile

Boy, the UP sure cleared the train accident fast yesterday. My normal train was annulled and combined with others, but we were only a half-hour late.

Good morning all,  Glad to report that all went well on the knee surgery.  They sent me home same day last night.  I am getting around on a walker to start with but I can stand a little for short periods.  Will see the doctor Monday for the first follow up.  So far, I have had minimal pain and slept well the first night.  Thank you all for the prayers and well wishes.  I think it did some good.

Chief, congratulations on the 8 year driving license.   The most they do here is 5 years I think.

Just got a recent report on the Gold Line extension (light rail) between Pasadena and Azusa (near me) that I signed up for.  It was mostly about a bridge proposed over our foothill freeway 210 in Arcadia.  They had an old bridge there that the ATSF ran trains over including the Super Chief for years but tore it down when the line was sold to MTA.  They said the old bridge did not meet earthquake standards.  The proposed new bridge looks more like a monument than a bridge.  I think it is overkill but what do I know.  I'm just a pensioned off railroad engineer.

Have a good day Y'all,

Ray

Evening all,

Happy Birthday Doug

Helped with the First Communion Retrete at church.  The twins are having their first Communion.  They are really looking forward to it.  Our Youngest is in from Cincy and their Mom is going to get a pass for a few hours.  My bride tried on Gabriel's new black pants (that fit him last week) and they were too small.  His good black shoes were too small too.  Man he is growing like a weed right now.  Eight years old, 92#s, wears size 12 pants and size 5 shoes.  He is already 4'7" ans solid as a rock.

Another wet day, ball games called off.  Going upstairs to snake out a slow drain, fun fun.  The shower drain is almost as disgusting as the toliet.

May God bless

Jim

RT,

Thanks.  I am glad it is done.  It runs as good as it looks.  Next up is a 313 Bascule Bridge.

Banks,

It is a Canon Powershot SX130IS.

DougM,

                Happy B-Day

Ray,

Glad to hear everything went well.

Had an uneventful, routine day at work today.  I took the PGT out for a bit once I got home since it hasn't been started for at least three weeks due to the weather.  Still need to test the control box that I got for the 314AW sometime.

Thanks for the birthday wishes. Cake for all! I decided to go to the IL Railway Museum anyway - got there in time to ride  in a Lackawana car behind a C&NW GP9 and also on a 'Roarin' Elgin' interurban before the rains came.  I didn't realize the MTH coal elevator doesn't come with any coal so I have to scavenge something to see how it works but it looks great! Here's a brief video of our ride back wgYIx8Nyfdw
