Good morning all,
8ntruck, thanks for the info re CV boot replacements. The amount of labor gives me a good idea of what it will cost.
Re not as cold in Oklahoma, I was referring to night time temperature in my garage in California. Daytime is not bad but it cools down a lot at night. We could probably still run with our coats on with a hot cup of coffee but who needs that. I did that for a living on the real railroad before I retired.
Don, glad things are better at the club. I missed the last open house but I always enjoy visiting down there.
Getting ready for more rain. I'm OK but next door neighbor with collie dogs has a leak in his roof. Covered the whole works with plastic sheeting until he can get a roofer. Dogs have a tarp over their kennel. They had some igloo shaped dog houses when they moved in but were abandoned after the first rain flooded the ground they were on.

Hello all,
Mid 60's here yesterday. 50's on the way to work this AM. 60's again today then a downhill slide tonight. Rainy low 40's tomorrow. At least it's above freezing
Lazy week, enjoyed a late Valentines date at OUTBACK last evening with my lovely MRS.
Buckeye, did I miss your birthday?
Cheapclassics, hope Roger Tango Foxtrot was a success. More prayers for you and yours.
Brutus,
Not sure what the weekend will bring. Still need to get the last of the Christmas boxes moved from the living room to the attic. Hope for some train running. Maybe I'll finally get the new front door installed. (that's a BIG maybe)
SS Fund is calling. Catch ya later
Prayers for those in need

Good Mornin' Ya'll From Sunny and mid 40s Cape Ann Taxachussets,
Yesterday Boston hit 60 degrees, one degree shy of a record high for the date. Only hit 56 here twenty miles North. Today's high will be about the same for me, and I'll take it! After reading of RT's yardwork escapades, I got motivated and energized, grabbed a leaf rake, and ran out to get at it. Not a leaf could be seen, just snow. Took the car to get bathed instead.
Seven year old Granddaughter scored 30 out of 30 on her math test yesterday, showing what she is capable of. Tests are time limited. Other times, she misses a lot of questions on the exact same content. At least capability is not the issue. Motivation, concentration, nervousness? It's one of them, and quite fixable.
Laz........Minnie is one lucky pup to have you. Her life out and about on those daily walks with you......couldn't be better. Releases some of that pent up energy and frustration, reduces the inclination to start up some unwanted puppy chewing.
Chief.......was watching the weather channel last night. 75 in Raleigh yesterday, tied a record high for the date. Around your digs it should be 95 by May and 115 by August.
MikeC......prayers for a good weekend with all of the family planning, logistics, and workarounds you have done. If this were my family, at least one of my sisters would ignore her singular and clear responsibility in the plan, become the broken link in the chain, and the whole plan would go South from there.
Example.....when I was a bachelor, my soon-to-be wife and I restarted a family tradition started by my parents, one that had fallen by the wayside when my folks got older.....too much for them. To their delight, we decided to start anew and host the annual July 4 BBQ (OK, cookout!) at my house.
The entire cookout menu was carefully built around individual "assignments" spread out amongst all of the attendees, right down to the napkins. Wifey and I supplied all the beverages and the meats/seafood/poultry. Everyone else the rest. One of my sisters volunteered to handle corn on the cob responsibility......just had to buy it and bring it au naturel, and we would take it from there.
Everyone began arriving in plenty of time to take in the community parade first which literally assembled out in front of my house. Then it happened.....
My one sister unilaterally decided she would bring ice cream (someone elses' assignment) instead of the corn. When she arrived at my place and I saw her without the corn, I rejected her right at the door and sent her back out to the store to get corn. Off she huffed. Prodigal sister scored the corn and returned. I kissed her, thanked her, and carried on as if nothing had happened.
As you might expect, my wife, my mother, my other sister, and my Aunts were all appalled at what they considered my extremely rude treatment of my sister. My nephews, Uncle, and Dad were all very amused......in fact, my Dad found great humor in it for the rest of the day. When everyone was finally engaged in eating, Dad commented for all to hear "Great corn, Judy!" which broke everyone up. Did my sister learn anything that day? Of course not. That's family for you.
Later, gang.
Jack

Good Morning All !
Had a good day yesterday, got a lot of wiring taken care of on the layout.
Today is "computer day", FOUND the code for the car radio, it was in a box. Now have it more "Logically" placed. So it turned out well, didn't have to take out the radio to replace the headlight bulb. Now the computer issues is almost as bad. The laptop repair shop ordered a replacement screen, finally got it, and upon installation found out that a chip has to be replaced when the monitor is. And that will require formatting the HD. So I'm going to see about copying all the data before its lost. Then need to set up a desktop as well. Oh Fun!
ChiefEagles sorry Yanks, you can't see the ground yet] Have a good one.
sorry Yanks, you can't see the ground yet] Have a good one.
Folks out here are busy staking down plastic sheets to try and hold the ground in place. Every broadcast is screaming doom and gloom, with the pending rain just off the coast. Suppose to arrive this evening during rush hour! Glad I will be home!!
Went down to the OLD club the other day. They have made a number of improvements, and I was quite welcome. So I think I will head back down there next week.
It was also fun, the TrainDoc went with me, he seemed to have a good time as well.

Good Morning
Sun and 46, snow is gone except for the piles. That means another snow is probably not far away. At least it won't stay on the ground long. March can be nasty here but it's also the exit of winter. As I read the pot it appears people are beginning to stir some. Eggs bacon and hash browns for breakfast so that means I will skip lunch..S.J.

Aloha all. Sun is out downtown but it's only in the 40s - I'll take it though. Prayers for your working things out this weekend, Mike C. Good luck on the interview, Jim. JimStur, I would've asked for both MLK and GF off. LOL. Looks like my biggest project this weekend will be taking the boys somewhere Sunday whilst the bride hosts a shower for a good friend who recently adopted a Philippine orphan.

It is rainy in SE Indiana but still warm. Family is executing maneuver Roger Tango Foxtrot today, which will make D-day at Normandy look like a simple operation. One daughter and husband (down to one vehicle) will drive to other daughter's house and drop off their son there for the weekend. Daughter's husband will then drop off daughter at my dad's house so she can stay with my dad. I will exhange our van with vehicle of other daughter this evening so other daughter can drive down Sunday with both sets of kids and her husband to see dad. Son and his GF will drive over this weekend to see dad and to bring home the first daughter mentioned and her son. Simple, huh? There will be a quiz at the end of the day :-) Lot of people at funeral home for soccer girl's dad and while I was there I discussed the situation with my dad with the personnel there. Did not think dad would get out of bed again after I helped wife get him into it yesterday afternoon, but he surprised everybody by getting up last evening. Hospice nurse will check on him today. Thank you again for the support. I had the regular fare on the dining car for breakfast. TBIL, but someone else will have to drive. I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,
Mike C. from Indiana
Prayers for the soccer girl and her family.
JimSP - AMEN
G97P - Good luck on the job! I can't help thinking of an old Simon and Garfunkel song, "I'm a citizens for boysenberry jam fan!" Good luck there too?
Back to work today after 2 days off and already can't wait for the weekend. We get off next Monday as well, which will be nice.
TARDIS is ready, so let's get moving guys!
RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
The sun was just setting and the thermometer in my car read 72 degrees as I pulled out of the parking lot on my way home from work. The 9 foot high piles of snow I shoveled out of the driveway a couple of weeks ago are just about gone.
Brutus - glad to hear Char's dental work came out OK.
Probe - hopefully this job opportunity works out for you.
SP Man - replacing the CV boots on that car will require that both axles come out. I'd guess about 4 hours labor plus parts. A loooong time ago, I replaced a torn boot on a 1st generation Pontiac J2000 with an aftermarket split boot. Was still intact when I sold the car maybe a year later. A fix like that is really a temporary fix, but do not cost as much as a OE replacement part.
All for now.
Good evening all,
It was another warm day here today; it hit 75. I stayed busy at work all day and towards the end of it our network went down. Now the paperwork is backing up so I already know what my Friday will be like. My wife made chicken fajitas for dinner and then I ran the trains with the baby for about 30 minutes. My wife turned in early so I read with the kids and got them to sleep. I watched some Family Ties while rocking the baby to sleep. I lost an auction on eBay at the last moment, but I am not too upset. It will leave me more money in the train budget in case I find anything at the train show in Stillwater, OK, this Saturday.
SP Ray - How is it too cold to run trains in your garage in CA, but I was able to run them in my garage in OK? What a crazy winter we're having. It was another nice night so I had the garage door open while running them. I hope it warms up for you soon.
Jim SP -
Good night,
Joe
Jim,
I just measured the cradle in the 755 and it is also 2 5/8".
Jack,
I don't know if idependently wealthy applies here or not. Cleanest '96 I've seen in a while though.
I've got my fingers crossed that I get a call for an interview. This seems to be the best place yet that I've applied to. Plus, it is only a 15-20 minute drive.
Didn't work on the layout today, but I did move the PGT back outside and got it covered before replacing the horn on the Sunfire and fixing a small amount of rust. Just finished ordering a set of valve cover gaskets for the PGT so that the alternator doesn't get taken out again.
Evening Guys,
Just got done with fire drill, stopped at ShopRite and picked up some Hot Pockets for dinner...
Spent the day replaceing a transmission on an Accent and it kicked my butt...pays 5 hrs and I did it in 10 ...well, I'm learning the product...
For Mike C & family/friends, Char...
Talked to my beloved daughter today, they moved from the house to a 2 bed apt. She says it's an adjustment...to say the least...cats are ok as I was concerned about her and the cats....
Gonna finsh dinner a pop off to bed....night dudes....

Sturgeon-Phish Evening all Beautiful in southern Ohio. 72° today. Not bad for mid February. RT – I would be tempted to throw a chain around the shrubs and pull them out with your truck that makes shrub removal real fast. Jim
thought about that but theres a gas line under some of them ( well most of them) so don't want to take that chance till I see how deep it really is. but if I can get them cut about 6" below the ground level I will put some gravel in there and cement it the rest of the way so I can step out onto concrete not more bushes
Don got myself in trouble again but heck thats what were supose to do right? I bought a Williams dummy PB-1 in NYC stable To go with my Lionel PA-1 so should look good on the layout. Think the PB-1 is about 1" shorter but that will be fine and the colors won't match exact I bet but hey I've seen a lot where one is faded or just didn't exactly match so no big thing there.

Evenin' all! A bit of spring in February today as temps soared into the sixties. Rare for Jersey. Nice!
Just arriving today was a beautiful Flyer Town Station NO. 96! It's in great shape and will add to my 1920's buildings and sets.
Mike C - I know what you mean about a vacuum in a life. We still feel a void with the passing of my wifes brother this past fall from cancer. He was only 47. If keeping in touch with "our lives" is of some benefit to you, and I hope it is, then it's understandable, with what you're going through, that you don't comment on our lives. Good luck!
Jim - Sturgeon-Phish - I agree with you 100% on your thought process.
Jim - green97probe - Always think positive, and good luck.
John- Hudson#685 - Fri night might be a tough night to blast the roof and base because I'm going out to dinner for Cathy's mom's birthday! Her choice is the Anchor Inn. Probably home by 8:30. Your call. Saturday is ok by me, again, your call, esp since you're helping me out. Thanks!
Hoping all is well,

Evening all. Busy day. Just got backhome. Very warm today and tonight. Full moon but no coyotes hawling. Contractor finished this project. Two more to go. CRASH!!! Later.
Good evening all, got a question for car buffs on the forum. What would be the going price now on replacing all four rubber boots on the front axle of a 1987 Buick Century? I need to shop around. My son had the oil changed and they noticed that the boots were leaking a little. The car is old but has low milage. Don't mind spending some but don't want to spend a fortune on an old car. We just use it for a back up when we need it.
No trains in garage tonight. Too cold. Had lunch with a train buddy though. More rain predicted for tomorrow. Snow level will be down to 3000 feet they say.
Tube steak (hot dogs) and beans on the menue tonight with potato salad and cold slaw. Got some country style pork ribs for tomorrow though.
Got a big bruise on my right hand about the size of a half dollar. Banged into something today. I bruise easy.
Went to Valentine dinner last Monday night with pot luck food. It was very good. We high balled the chocolate candy however this year. Had nice cake for desert.
Later,
Evening all

RT – I would be tempted to throw a chain around the shrubs and pull them out with your truck that makes shrub removal real fast.
Jim F – Good News about Char, will keep the prayers going!
Jack – The Odyssey is great. I don’t get to drive it much, but the bride and kids love it. The returned lease has really worked out well. There has been some minor things come up and the deal has bent over backwards to serve our needs.
Jim T – The cradle is 2 5/8” wide.
I really stirred the pot at work the other day. Several years ago with the spirit of a diverse work force, Management changed a paid holiday without consulting the population. Good Friday was removed as a paid holiday and Martin Luther King’s Jr birthday put in its place.
Last week Human Resources sent out an email that basically asked if we wanted to give up MLK for Good Friday as a paid holiday. I answered and replied to all with this response. “I want option B (Good Friday, not MLK birthday). I believe Rev. King would shudder in his grave to even consider celebrating his birthday instead of the day when Jesus open heaven for ALL mankind.” I received a lot of “AMENS” and a few less charitable remarks, and I was requested by my management to recall the response. When asked if I knew I responded to all, I said “yes”.
Good night and may God bless
Jim
jonadel Pat -- I did a little checking on your question, thanks Google :) and to my surprise there is a Toronto, IA! It's in NE IA and is a small burg. My knowledge of NE IA is limited at best but I do know there are lots and lots of wonderful motorcycle roads up there that I've been fortunate to experience. Here 'ya go! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toronto,_Iowa

Good Mornin' Ya'll From Sunny and Warmer Taxachussetts, Mid 40s now and may touch 50 tomorrow, then colder. But unlike most of you guys, I won't be seeing lawn any time soon. Three feet of the white stuff covering most of the lawn and the piles are still over 5 feet. MikeC.......no explanations necessary. Take care of business, and use the Pot for a respite of sorts. We aren't going anywhere and are thinking of you. Continued prayers for your Dad and for your soccer girl who lost her Dad at 41. Way too young, as you noted.

Brutus........Char is on a roll and just got over two major hurdles: the tooth extraction and your chili. I too like to remind my wife she is lucky she married me, but she ain't buying it.
RT.........."remove hedge, till garden, and paint the fence"?!? Not including the procrastination factor, I'll can safely say I can't/won't be tackling any of those outdoor chores for a couple of months. We still have snow on the garage roofs out here, and it hasn't snowed for over a week! Gotta venture out into the snow to retrieve a couple dozen presents the dog left, but that is about it.
JimSP........how's that Honda Odyssey treating you? Great choice.
SJ.......count me among the few intrepid souls who still have their Christmas layout up and running. My days are numbered.
DougM........while I have always been on the cutting edge with most of the electronics and home entertainment, I must be the last guy on this forum to replace an HD tube TV with a flat screen LCD, at least in the primary viewing area(@ Christmas). BlueRay? Nope. I'm not going through the video library upgrade (yet again: VHS to Stereo VHS to DVD) by replacing the DVDs we now have. I must have the largest Disney DVD collection on earth, some duplicates because remastered versions were released.
JimmyT........... If she appears rich and independently wealthy, go for it. Some may observe the toughest way to earn a buck is to marry it. But "tough" is a relative term.
