Jack,

Could be water in the gas from all the snow  "dust"  getting into the gas tank. Drain the tank and float bowl if you can. and check  the fuel filter. It could be passing enough fuel to run no-load but not enough to throw snow. I'm doubtful of water on the electrics because you've be running it enough to keep it dry.

Afternoon fellas.

When you think things can't get worse... stop thinking because it typically does. My problem is I can't stop thinking that it can't possibly get any worse. Bang Head. Been rewriting code for 2 days to compensate for a third-party developers database change! Finally have it working in the dev environment, deploy to production... more problems! Bang Head Now our IT support isn't responding to calls, emails, or IMs... Bang Head.

Jack - I dunno. I FINALLY got to use my new snow thrower yesterday morning. No issues. I am concerned that I should have put STABIL in the gas prior to filling the tank, but I've never done that with the tractor and had no issues season to season... Your problem sounds like either bad spark or bad gas. I would get a new spark plug, and if that doesn't work call Chief regarding bad gas... according to Buckeye Chief is an expert in that field. That's weird.....my Pot posting from earlier this AM reposted all by itself two hours later while I was outside putting the snowblower and shovels away (again).

I need your help.

Just got in from more snow removal.  In my neck of the woods, the citizens are asked to voluntarily keep the fire hydrants clear of snow and ice, suggesting a dug-out radius of at least 24 inches so fire crews can hook up quickly if need be to put out a fire..  Those folks that are not able to keep them clear are backed up by the fire department.  These guys go around post storm and clear the ones left that need clearing.  That is brutal physical work because many of the hydrants in the residential areas are located on the parkways (treelawns, or whatever you call them), within 5 feet of the street curbing.  The snowplows bury the hydrants in a mixture of compressed snow and ice, in this case, about 5-6 feet of it.

After snowblowing around my front stairs and my mailbox (engine fired right up, was running beautifully for 25 minutes),  civic-minded citizen Jack marches across the street to the general vicinity of the now buried fire hydrant with gassed up (oil clean and full) snowblower and shovels, and then commences exploratory excavating by hand, first knocking down the mounds.  Then I began moving the stuff with the beautifully running snowblower.

Ten minutes in, the beautifully running snowblower engine----out of the blue---- sputters and dies.  Can't restart manually, so I push snowblower back across the street to my garage, hook up the electric cord, and restart the thing.  Fires right up immediately, no cranking, no sputtering.  Back to the excavation site with the snowblower running beautifully.  Five minutes or so later, it sputters and dies again.  Repeat process.  Same result.  I had to finish the job by hand!!!! Bang Head

The snowblower was serviced one year ago, including a tuneup and carb rebuild.  Last April I put STABIL dry gas in the gas tank and ran the thing for 10 minutes as always after last season was done.  Bought and used fresh gas (Mobil) to start this season.  I always fill the gas tank in my garage to insure no blowing snow gets in the tank.  I am stumped.

What could be wrong?  I am hoping something got wet and needs to dry out.  I bought gas for it the night before the storm hit and had no issues all day yesterday with hours of run time.

Good morning all,

It finally has stopped Snohioing in SE Indiana, but temps are still cold.  Did not post this morning as I wanted to leave a bit earlier in case roads were bad.  They were ok.  NO soccer last night due to school being closed yesterday.  Good news is that they will start sessions at 7 PM and so I can get to bed at a decent hour those nights.  Sigh.....maybe next week.  Did watch the President's speech last night.  Very powerful, very moving (this is not a political observation).  Not much else going on except shoveling snow.  I had bran muffins again on the dining car for breakfast.  TBIL any time tonight and I can drive.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Good Mornin' Ya'll From Buried But Sunny Taxachussetts,

Snow front moved on last night and the snowfall stopped.  I figure it will take a few days until the state and local politicians start carping about how the entire snow budget for the 2010-2011 season has already gone into the red.  Last year they did the same thing, and we got about half of the average snowfall for the Winter.  They underfund, then scream the sky is falling while falling over patting themselves on the back for the snow removal.  This year we're at about 42 inches so far, about average for the entire annual average.

Was up at 5:30AM, fired up the snowblower, and got the driveway bottom cleared out.  I'll go across the street and dig out the fire hydrant in a bit, then start on the front and rear stairs.  One of the channels doing the weather has forecast one overnight in the single digits later in the week.  We may not be seeing lawn for a month or two.

Dennis......continued prayers for your complete recovery from that cornea injury.  Guess we should all start wearing protective eye gear when working on Christmas trees.  The OSHA Christmas Tree unit may launch a full blown investigation into the matter.  I've poked myself more than once, crawling around decorating and/or undecorating.

MikeC.....continued prayers for your wifey too, hope she isn't in too much discomfort.  I am a lot older than you, and these skin issues are affecting more of the older folk in our realm of acquaintance than not.  Back in "the old days" almost no one used any sun screen, got fried early and often, paying the price now.  The younger tanning salon generation will find out the hard way.

Don.....I think we should hold a fundraiser for your implant.  But we need a headliner, like your talented neighbor. Whistling

Traindoc.......kudos to you for volunteering for that medical mission.  My niece works for a major pharmaceutical company that provides their employees with paid leaves to travel to ravaged areas to volunteer their help.  She does about two per year and completed one in PR.  Her stories of the abject poverty, destruction, and overwhelming medical need are moving.  Little has been accomplished in the aftermath, and her accounts of the beaurocratic red tape and bungling quite discouraging.

Laz.....re your offer to help me with the snow removal.  That was a touching gesture, but I am afraid the Ole Mil expense would bust the budget, and then some.  On the other hand, you could take Maximus the dog on some 3 milers.

JimmyT.....enjoyed that video of the contrating AF smoke units.  Thumbs Up  You are right handed, aren't you.  You seemed to be having difficulty srcrewing back the cap while filming.  Laugh

Rich.......prayers have been answered, and today is the real first day of your new job.  Congratulations!!!!! Thumbs Up

Chuck.....I've got a good supply of some yellow snow in the munitions depot for the next barrage aimed at Roseyville. Big Smile

McRoy.......the Winter Texas weather is not what so many of us think it is.  I just took on another 160 gallons of home heating oil, just short of 6 weeks after the last delivery.....but that sort of expense is expected up here in the Northeast.

Later, gang.

Good morning all,

Well, Duke's win streak is now over as FSU continued to play well in the second half of last night's game.  Duke missed too many three-pointers, but in the end they were beaten by a team that executed very well.

Today is the last day of very cold weather.  The next few days will see highs in the 40s; however, it is supposed to drop back down next week and we might possibly see some snow.  I have a great deal of paperwork to accomplish at work today which will keep my tied to my desk until I leave the office this evening.

You all enjoy your day; it's time for me to wear out my keyboard.

I thought a Buckeye was a nut. I must search out this candy version with my last coins before the 66% income tax increase hits.  Jim, you remind me I have to seek out an HDMI cable to try it with this HD-ready DVD player... looks like a day of searching...

Just came back from the Wake Forest Chamber Elected Officials breakfast [with hardly no elected officials there, long story].  The director of the Chamber is a lady [being polite Smile, Wink & Grin] who graduated from Ohio State "College" Whistling.  She kept bragging about the Buckeyes.  When they called on me to stand and be recognized, I stated, "The only good Buckeye is the chocolate and peanutbutter candy."  The room exploded with applause.  Laugh

Sun is out and warmer.  So warm I think I will service the 4 Runner.

Ray,

           Thanks.  Happy anniversary.

Jack,

Thanks.  Yes, I am right handed, and that filler cap just wouldn't cooperate.  I avoided any narration there because I was afraid of what might be said.Laugh

I spent part of my day yesterday looking for an HDMI cable that has been MIA since my cleanup effort.Oops.  Couldn't find it, so I ordered a few from Newegg.  After that, I cleaned up a Sega Saturn and played with that for a bit.  Except for a dead backup battery, it still works as good as it did on Christmas day 1995.

I also took a couple AF 302ACs off the shelf and gave them a workout.  One ran great, but the other needed a light servicing to bring it back.

Aloha all. Grey and cold. Car goes in today again to look at the radio - of course it's working now.  Something's probably loose.  Glad Sean got in that way, NavyJack. Congratulations.  Re-read Band of Brothers over the holidays. Major Winters was quite a guy. They all were. Hope to run trains tonight.  Jack, hope you're only pushing that heavy snow, not heaving it. I should clear the driveway later here. Or not... Thanks for your service in Haiti, traindoc. Stay safe.

To all train nuts that are considering relocating to a warmer area when you retire: one of our local weather guys reported yesterday that in the 133 years weather records have been kept South Carolina has had snow in only 75 of those years. In those 75 years, the average total snowfall has been only 3 inches per year. In the past year we have had 14 inches, still a negligible amount compared to what many of you put up with. So much for global warming, huh. Contrary to popular belief, we really do have railroads here ( i wish the folks that produce all these railroad-related magazines were made aware of this) so you could still do some railfanning here, albeit not on the grand scale y'all are used to. So pack all your suitcases with money, leave your liberal politics behind, learn to love grits, and come on down! I sure could use some train-loving company down here- at last count there are about 12 of us in the whole state. Food for thought.

Hi GUYZ,

20 here and not to bad.

JACK, feed me and keep me in Ol Mils, I'll come up there and shovel your whole property.  Might get a little expensive but we can run trains.

About MAJOR WINTERS, they have had a nice 3 days of articles about him in our local paper, The Patriot News from Harrisburg.  He lived just outside of Hershey and died while at a nursing home in Campbelltown.  He was a guest speaker at Cedar Crest HS from time to time before HBO series and everyone enjoyed his talks about he war.  I salute you MAJOR WINTERS, Rest in Peace.

Stay frosty,

Ray thanks for the tip on MTH vestibule cars. I will check them out. I was raised in mass and miss the beauty of the snow but not the digging  out and my car not starting in the am. On the other hand I will be back in Haiti in 3 wks dealing with the cholera and malaria epidemics where the weather is hot and humid and the conditions of life for those poor people are terrible. Actually the heavy snow sounds great.                  Don the price of the implants is high. I know several excellent dentists who are more reasonable. Don't hesitate to contact me.                                                                                                                                                         All of you in snow and blizzards stay safe. Good Evening All

After reading the posts regarding the snow removal and what is being reported on the news, can't believe what you are all going through and have been through.    Not to make lite of your situations, but really feel empathy for those that are working in those conditions.  And, I'm sure most of you have.

The weather was nice here to day better than we have had in a week.  So the good news is, that this weather is headed your way.

Found out late last night Chris and a friend of his had plans on driving to Vegas and back today.  This morning I discussed the trip, and that it was not a very wise decision.  AFTER a discussion I finally conviced him to an alterantive.  Going to Pala Indian Casino, down by Sandy Ego.  Then suggested he used the El Camino as it was in better shape than his car.  So he agrees and then ends up with a heater hose breaking.  They were able to get a new one and install it .

Thanks for the comments regarding the implant.  I dont think I want to go that route, so going to get a 2nd opinion then take it from there.

Going to call it a day, hope Thur a better day for the east coast..

Don

I AM BEAT!!!!

Just got in from doing more snow removal, third and final pass on the driveway.  I didn't touch the front steps or the ones off the rear deck.....I simply ran out of energy.  Will get up early in the morning to make sure the bottom of the drive is clear from the overnight snow plows and we can get out.  Then clean up what I missed.

We got about 20 inches of the really heavy stuff, others got more North and West of here, about 2 feet.  And 35 inches out in the Berkshires in Western MA.  This one goes down as an official blizzard.

101,000 electric customers were without power at one point (not me), power lines down, 20,000 still without power....meaning they don't have heat !!!!  Governor called a state of emergency and called out the National Guard, plus he made sure out-of-state crews were brought in to get the customers back on line.   Boston schools will be closed for a second day tomorrow.

It wasn't the amount of snow.  It was the weight and how fast it fell.  Plus the sustained high winds created snow drifts you wouldn't believe.  I've got seven foot high mounds all around the (cleared) deck in the rear, and one "mountain" about 10 feet high at the end of the driveway.

Next to beer, the snowblower is the greatest invention of man.  I've got neighbors who cleared their driveways but didn't clean off their cars.  With the temperatures dropping to the low to mid 20s overnight, the heavy wet stuff will turn into a substance with the consistency of concrete......covering their cars.  Wouldn't want to be them!!!!

Time for an Advil and bed.

Jack

Good evening all,

I don't have much going on tonight.  The wife made baked pasta and salad for dinner.  After dinner, I read books and played with the kids.  I also helped my 7y/o son sort some baseball cards he received as a late arriving Christmas present from my sister.  The kids are all in bed now so I'm watching the Duke - FSU basketball game.  FSU is playing a very good game so far.  It's almost halftime and we'll see if the Seminoles can keep it up for another half against the mighty Blue Devils.

AF53 Ray - Congratulations on your anniversary.  I hope you all had a great night.

wrmcclellan - That's good news about your son's car; I'm glad it worked out that quickly for you.

Does anyone own a Lionel Lehigh Valley GP9 (18800)?  I'm considering bidding on one and would like to know how it has performed.  Thanks.

Good night,

Joe

Buckeye Riveter

Chuck....Your aim with the snow cannon has really improved this year.  Roseyville is getting pounded and his Honor is peeved. Yes

Sorry Charlie, no snow here.  Very little sleet. Laugh  Streets clear here.  made early morning run to neighboring town to take Finn to groomer.  NO ice on highway.  Seems you Yam Dankees can't aim.  Ask NY, MA and NH.  New Hampshere called today and said Pro Mariner was closing down due to 1 1/2 FEET of snohio.  Don't think NH moved south. Whistling

Been in meetings all day.  Then had to go pick up Finn.  Went to visitation of a senior lady in our church.  Then took Wifey to dinner.  TV now but I hear some sorry individual that sounds like a DC person [wifey has it on in other room].  Outdoor Channel to the rescued.

Later.

31 at exit 77 with an added 4-6 inches from last night!

Jim- thanks for the video. Not sure if you'd agree with me but I think I like the SIB on my 316 better than the SIT on my 312. Not only does it sound better but the speed is better because of the extra motor in the tender. BTW, nice job with the new camera!

Day three at work and the boilers still not finished. They brought in burners the run on deisel and sits outside next to the buildings but there are some fumes (aroma) the you can smell in the building. At least it helps some with the heat.

Well, the kids and I are set to take the wife out for dinner because tonights our 31st wedding anniversary. We'll have a great time out tonight! It always is when you're with the kids.
