Lunch Time in Central Jersey,
I just got back to my office looking at equipment in the field. I am convinced that these guys can break anything.
RI Jack, Sounds like you have the identical washer to ours. NEVER AGAIN. Top loader next time.
Demay, Joe, I would like to ban HGTV from my house. My wife gets some crazy ideas for projects.
Dennis, When a rep calls me outside my work hours, I don't deal with him and when he asks me why I tell him. I hate the co. cell phone.
Navy Jack, I am glad to hear that you and Gigi are on the mend, but my deepest prayers for the grandchildren.
Fife, Do you think that they would cast the Chief as "Marlon Perkins"?
Thoughts and prayers for all in Need.
John
Good morning all,
Just came home for a quick lunch break. Pretty nice day outside today. The rain is gone and the sun is now making its way out. Unfortunately, the rest of my duty day will require me to remain indoors to work today.
Brutus - I often wonder if HGTV forces the people on the show to buy a house they may not want. I've seen many episodes of the International and stateside version where the buyers did not seem interested in any of the houses they saw.
I hope everybody is doing well today.
Joe
Off to buy a washing machine. Between the wife and I, we put in about 6 hours of research on the internet first......and the retail outlets sure don't make it easy on their websites until you dig.....a lot.
Missing model numbers, pictures and price only. Missing prices (click here for price), ya gotta dig for availablity and varying delivery dates, same with special discounts and offers. Free delivery and installation means FD&I but you pay haul away charge, or it may include it. ETC. Some retail websites let you click on 3 or four choices so you can get side-by-side specifications......and some don't. Some of the "verbage" like for height, width, and depth doesn't match the specification page.
Extended warranties? Expensive and way too short. Factory warranties......way too short (the washing machines for example are about 1 year parts and labor).
This will probably take me 5 minutes to buy now that the wifey and I have concensus. This stuff is all cheaply made, so much so that the cost of repair makes your decision to simply replace a no brainer. My plumber once told me that with a lot of appliances nowadays 8 years old means "nearly cooked." Then I read pretty much the same thing in Consumers Reports.
Add in the fact that the wife then gets the bright idea we should buy a clothes dryer at the same time to be on the safe side. I refused that suggestion.
Later, gang.
Jack
IF IT WON'T COME LOOSE BY TAPPING ON IT, DON'T TRY TO FORCE IT. USE A BIGGER HAMMER.
hello guys, thought you would like to see how a sniper in the german army, lines up his target. pat he is aiming at a turkey vulture. navyjack
Morning all, just got some pictures of my oldest sister's family reunion from facebook relayed to me ( I don't get facebook). Nice to see them all but don't recognize some since I have'nt seen some of them in years. They probably would'nt recognize me either.
Got call yesterday from an old financial advisor whom we don't use much anymore. Wants a $1500 per year fee to continue with him. Wrong time to be asking for a raise in the middle of a recession. Good luck to him.
Cool weather continues here. Very nice for doing things outside.
Congratulations to all you guys with over 4000 post. When did you start doing this? Was it when you were in High School? Just kidding. I'm just a late bloomer on here myself.
All you foxes look out for the Chief. He is armed and dangerous.
No more news yet about the skunk attack next door yesterday. Hope the dog did not get sprayed.
Think I'll go for my morning walk now since the sun is coming out.
Have a good one,
Ray

thanks john, you are very considerate
I haven't been on here in a while. Trying to save the house from foreclosure or bankruptcy. My main purpose seems to be holding on to my house. Even the homeowners insurance is going up!
Looks like moving day is coming very soon!!!
Salary cuts are being dished out here in southeast Florida as well as layoff notices every day!! NO-body is safe from the budget ax!! Even police officers are being laid or fired!!!!! The economy is getting worse than worse done here, almost defunct economy!
May have to sell some lower end trains that I am not 100% fond of, to pay bills!

I tried to buy a washing machine, but the appliance department's (and/or the store's) systems were down. The sales rep could not look ANYTHING up, let alone process a transaction. So I did what any sensible guy would do...... I killed time by looking at some flat screens in the adjacent TV department, waiting for the systems to come back up. Kept checking with the appliance sales rep, but no go. So I gave up after an hour of waiting and came home. Better luck tomorrow perhaps, but this pushes off delivery until next week when I can be home to let the delivery and installation boys in to do their thing.
Looks like the wifey and I will have to do our laundry over at the daughter and SIL's place this weekend, use their detergent/bleach/fabric softener, use their water, use their electricity, eat their food, drink their beer, be couch potatoes on their furniture, and help their children (the grandkids) mess up their house.
Jack.
Sorry Jack. (a little). I love how there's never an alternative when the 'systems are down'

Jack might be a little late now but sometimes if you go home and get on your putor and goto the stores website you can order and pay for it that way and set up delievery .
Evening all not a lot going on here just taking it easy talking to brutus on chat.

Back from another pork bar-be-que political fund raiser. Finn is in trouble. Today he got into the bamboo on the livingroom harth. Got muddy water on the rug in the center of the floor. Cleaned up the hardwood floor. Put most of bamboo back in pot and added water. Just came home and he had done it all over again escep the bamboo and muddy foot prints are on his Mom's leather couch. She is at a Church committee meeting. Got up the muddy water and stones from the pot. Left the bamboo on the couch for his Mom. I beat him good with newpaper this afternoon. Seems it did no good. So this time I took him by the color and lectured him and told him what a bad boy he was. Who knows, might understand better than a newpaper beating. Only 5 months old [well almost].
When we got him [compare him with Lucy].
About 3 months old.

Jack, Don't you love it when a plan comes together, at least the best part of it anyway.
Joe, Were you guys in Ok when they had the little quakes ?
Sad to say a couple of people killed and another injured on the tracks in Orange County this morning, at 6:30am. As of yet nothing said as to why they were there, some neighbors have said that the area tends to be a "party place". Of course the rails were shut down for several hours for investigation.
Tomrrow is museum day, pot of Chili readied for lunch. Hope to leave early since the munchkin is spending the nite with us, plan on taking him down to see the hot rods & customs then Pizza Time.
Later All.

Good Evening everyone. Doug, You can expect to see gators near most bodies of water and often crossing roads near swamp type areas. Not like some of the photos you will see of "alligator Alley" in Florida, but enough to know that you may not be swimming alone.
Banks, Heavenly Father, I pray that you will be with our brother, that you will bring peace and comfort to him and his family and that you will meet them at their need. In Christ's name, Amen.
Lee, Lord, we ask that you will give guidance to Lee and his wife to financial stability. Help them to get through these troubled times with the security that is found in You. May they keep healthy and may they have peace that surpasses all understanding. We ask these in Jesus' name...Amen.
Chief, glad you are able to get that varmint rifle a good workout. Hope you are able to hit your mark every time. 243 is one of the few rifles that I don't own. It is a very good round for most game found in these parts. You may want to hold the line at Bear and get a bigger round for those bruins.
Jack, you are wrong for that...but I love it! Sounds like a good idea if you are not the one it is being done to. With regard to fixing washing machines and other appliances, I have fixed our washer, dryer, dish washer, Above Range Microwave, and a few other items around here. On one occasion, the washing machine had given it her last run. Even with me doing the repairs, the cost would be prohibitive. I found an older fellow who fixes appliances and also sells them for low prices to the less fortunate. I gave him a call and told him he could have the unit if he hauled it. Figure he could either use the parts, or get the other parts from another machine and fix that one. We went to Sears and picked up a "Consumer Reports Best Buy" Kenmore for a very good price. In the past, I have gotten good deals on some appliance "resale" places. They had W&D sets that were brand new from a military installation that was being closed. Units had never been installed and I got the set for $250-delivered!
John, within reason, I will not interrupt my family time to talk to a vendor. I do have a fair amount of time when I am home during what are considered normal working hours. Because of what I do, my schedule may have me working through the night and then taking a morning off to recover if possible. Either way, my family is more important than any call from work.
Speaking of family, time for me to join mine for bed time. We have some friends of our kids coming over to spend the night tomorrow. Then, on Saturday, we will return them to their parents and we have a project that our Sunday School class is doing. One of the neighborhoods that is used in the movie is impoverished. We will be setting up in the park in the center of the area and having all the kids and families join us for horseback riding, games, food, etc. It is just a time to love on some folks who certainly can use it. Be a little Salt and Light in the community. I hope to have our kids there for it as it is a important lesson to be learned.
God Bless,dennis

Prayers for Bob, Lee and navyjack's grandkids!
Chief - thanks for the dough, it is appreciated!
Jack - sounds like a good Plan B to me! I'm sure you will be able to order your appliance soon. Maybe call and do it on the phone, that is often patched through to a central office somewhere and not affected by your local store.
Spackled the ceiling. I'll give the two small patches a 2nd coat tomorrow night or Saturday. Doesn't look too bad now though. This stuff was really light and supposed to dry in 15 minutes enough for painting.
I have some used dvds I'd like to sell, but ebay prices are so low it would probably cost me money to do it. I think I'll give them to friends at work or something.
TARDIS is ready and we have all the usual stuff. Jack, since Mike can't drive tonight, you can have the honors We need to go over and buz Brent's and Kurt's houses!
RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
Good evening all,
Just taking a quick break from the football game. The Yankees are off tonight. These next few months are brutal for my wife as baseball season heads into the playoffs and football season picks up steam.
John - Fortunately, my wife knows my limitations, as well as our budget, and doesn't get too crazy with the HGTV ideas. We enjoy it because we plan to purchase a home in Italy when we retire.
Doug - We were in OK for those quakes, but they were in the southern and southeastern parts of the state. Enid is located in the NW part.
More prayers for Lee. As usual Dennis says it best.
Good night,
Hey they changed the print color on the threads, much better now, easier on the eyes.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....
It is a foggy 50 degrees. Looks like another nice day of sunshine and 72.
Today is an easy day. I plan on taking it easy and catching up on a few things to read. I will spend some time outside before going to PT this afternoon.
Dining car is here and it's the usual for breakfast.

Y'all have a great Friday.

Morning all. Daily reading done, prayers lifted and breakfast over. Light day today, so I will head in later. Have a few birthday presents to pick up as son was invited to two birthday parties tomorrow. Good thing is that they are both at the same place, so we will bring him there then.
Plan for tomorrow is to drop off son's friend after the sleep over, then, son and I will head over to the mission in that neighborhood I mentioned last night. Stay there for a few hours and then to birthday parties. Will be a full day of things.
I have just been reminded that today is a day for donations for a child from our kids school. He has a disease that keeps him confined to a wheelchair and inside. They are going to build a addition to the parent's house for the kid to play in.
Hope each of you have a great day and weekend.God Bless,Dennis
Mornin' boys. Mornin' English. Great news on the train front: The Patapsco & Back Rivers RR (Elmer Hall) book just came from the printer's (GAZETTE), and 20 or so of my steel mill pics were published. To a railfan, this is as jazzy as having your layout in a magazine. Mr. Hall delivered my copy in person, and thanked me for getting the project started.
IIABSDISEI with temps in the 70s. "My" soccer girls finally won a game, 2-1, and it was on the road. The boys won at home 3-2. My first game could have gone better as we lost 8-1. I did play well (for my level of play), but things were a bit disorganized for us. I do know some of the players and I think things will improve. It was just nice playing in the fall. The field was nicely watered and soft to run on. The new conditioning program I am on seems to be working as I played most of the game and walked off under my own power. Prayers going out to those who need them (seem to be in particularly high demand). I had the regular fare on the dining car for breakfast. TBIL and I can drive tonight. I hope everyone has a good day.
Congratulations Fife!!!
Just finishing getting the kids ready for school: helping my 9y/o daughter pick out an outfit is not my specialty. The boy is easy: just throw on some shorts and a t-shirt. After I finish helping the kids I will go for a short run. It's a nice day today and now is a good time to run.
Fife - Congratulations! I suppose you will be sending all the coffee pot posters signed copies.
S.J. - I agree, the typeface is looking much better now.
Morning. Shower and shave and go to Raleigh to get flue shot. Includes Ioway pig flue shot. Then luncheon for all those in public service given by lady in Town each year on or around 9-11.
Congrats Fifey. Great job as usual.
Hope Bob is doing OK. Did not see a post yesterday.
Dennis, got a 742 in 30-6 for the big guys. The .243 is a great round and not a lot of "kick" in recoil. The rifle has a recoil pad built in. Very good shooter.
Have a great day. [Slipped red ink in Buckeye's printer at work ]
Woke up to 63 degrees, feels almost Fall like Maybe it will stay under 100 today!
Aloha all. Cool here. Bad allergies last eve so in a bit of a fog today. Prayers for you, Lee and for Bank's son's job prospects. Look like the Sox' season is done - the Twins never lose.. Wow, Fife, a published photographer. That's so cool that I know you.
hello guys. when i got my laptop it had a 90 day trial with norton anti-virus. it ran out and i installed kaspersky anti-virus. ok so far. the grandchildren are still getting breathing treatments. they are better though and thanks for your prayers. thanks to imodium tablets my diarea is now under control. they should have used it to plug up the oil spill in the gulf. no more foreign food for us. need to find a place to get some good barbaque. dang it my memory failed......as pat would have suggested i should have had some grits. won a k-line crane on ebay. wife says i should not get small stuff so next time i will get an engine. maybe a scale williams gg-1. there is one now at a great deal, but just do not have the money. god bless all of you. navyjack
