...........Jack, 69 Vette with A/C? Don't tell me with an automatic also. That is cruisin in luxury. we called it excess weight and hp robbing. as to having the cars. The same ones no, but I have a nice 65 Mustang and a 56 Chevy Nomad that is to be my retirement project.

Thoughts and prayers to all in need.

John

John.......Yes on the a/c.  I was the second owner.  But it was delivered with the Muncie close ratio 4 speed with 3.55 rear gears,  350ci/350hp from the factory, leather, t-tops, and the removable rear window, factory side exhausts, optional wheel covers, and the optional red line Tiger Paws.

Engine rebuild in 1977, original block. Went to LT1 mechanical lifters, a slightly hotter cam than LT1 spec, and the Edebrock high rise aluminum intake manifold.  Accel dual point ignition.  The Hooker full race headers and side exhausts.  Hurst Super Shifter linkage.  Removed the air recirculating pump (prehistoric emmisions).  The car would smoke the tires, and with the 7,000 rpm red line on tap, it would really scream.  Got a little light in the nose North of 140mph, only did that once.   Didn't notice any drag due to the a/c though...... Big Smile

Rich.....I knew better than to take on those large blocks, especially the Mopars.  But the rebuilt small block could have given them a run for their money with the short throw Hurst.  The posi, the independent rear suspension, and the G profile tires hooked up really well for basically stock car.  My ex-wife and I agreed once (out on the Route 294 spur (DougM) to a rolling 40mph start with a guy in a DeTomaso Pantera with 4,700 miles on his odometer, had him by 3 car lengths and was still pulling on him at 125 when I shut it down.......he had a 5th gear!  The extra weight of having a passenger in my car didn't help either.

RT......a close friend of mine had a 67 GT350 and that car would haul.  I couldn't believe it when he sold it for something more practical  What could be more practical than a rear seat that would fold down.  Some people just don't think things through.  Smile,Wink, & Grin

BTW......I am sick and tired of all these young kids driving too fast nowadays. Wink

Good Evening from the Jersey Shore, 93 and humid,

Guys, did you ever notice that our old rides look better and run better now than they did 30-40 or so years ago. We forget about all the mornings that they wouldn't start, the overheating, the "GREAT HANDLING and BRAKING", just to name a few. Think back and be HONEST. I keep the points and manual choke in my 1965 Mustang to remind me of the good old days. Jack, no A/C either.

Fife, Once in a while I have to work in a high crime area and I am ever vigilant. Enjoy your vacation.

Time to run the trains.

Thoughts and prayers to all in need.

Well RT, at least the Chief can't claim you are full of s!?t.  Good luck at the plumber's.

Re the cars of our youth.....like most of  us,  I ran into a lot of other priorities in life and nearly sold the car.  I am glad I resisted.  The car is sitting in the garage covered and on stands, waiting for the day when I can tackle the issues and get it back on the road.  I am not mechanically inclined, nor do I have the tools to do this stuff myself.  But some day........it will be my turn again.

Jack -- If I could have one car back it would be my '68 Roadrunner, it was the first new car I owned and I only had it for 15 months. T boned by a drunk and totaled, never had a muscle car again.

Fast forward 35 years and my brother fulfilled his dream and did a frame up restoration of a Vette. He had to hire all of the restoration so it took awhile, gorgeous when done. It was the worst riding car I've ever been in, awful doesn't begin to describe the pain. He wouldn't even take it out of the garage if there was any threat of rain and I'm fine with that. He finally gave it to his oldest son that lives in FL.

He now drives a 48 Chevy completely customized with a Caddy interior and a big honkin' motor. At least he will drive it in the rain! I was able to drive it and it was a blast, everyone waves and smiles all the time. That would be a vehicle I would consider owning -- old nostalgic looks with modern amenities and reliability.

We go to the Good Guys Car show about every two years that tours through Des Moines and those vehicles are simply awesome. When I get to the point I can't ride the bike anymore I will consider a Hot Rod, '32 Ford chopped and channeled with a modern motor -- red with ghost flames!!!!!!!!!! However, I really do like the new Camaro ..... I'm afraid to go sit in it and take a test ride, so tempting.

 Good Evening....!

Well, this is the first chance at a real post, so I'm gonna do it.  Still very warm here, no idea how warm.  Sun is setting on another day here.  Work has been a real bear last few days...I'm about to lock my door and shut off my phone....yeah, it's that bad...Banged Head.  Thank goodness, I'm off on Monday, next Friday and all  4th of July week.  I need some time away from here....

I still live the life of a hot rodder though.  I'm getting my wagon back on the street, looks like that's gonna be my transport to Jersey.  Momma and I are on the outs and I'm pretty sure she's not giving me her car to run back to Jersey, even with the Princess in tow.  No matter, it's up to the task.  I'm having one of my accounts take care of the front end and do a thorough check out before we ship out.  I need to reinstall the instrument cluster & stereo system & the aux fan.  It ain't gonna be cheap @ 17mpg, but, hey, it's an adventure....we did the '07 Hot Rod Power Tour in it, so, no worries.  I need to finish off the roadrunner in NJ...sometime...

If I had the extra cash, I'd be in for the 2010 Challenger SRT8 6 speed 6.1 Hemi in Plum Crazy.  Just don't have 40 large laying around...Banged Head.  Ah, to dream....

Supposed to be in the 90's again tomorrow, no rain in the offing.  Humidity has been outrageous and oppressive, so say the least.

Well, that's all for now, I'll check back later.

I am the monster in your head...And I thought you'd learn by now, It seems you haven't yet.

Evenin' All.

Mmmmm, "Muscle Cars". Lots of fond memories, favorite was my 65 GTO. Approve Sure was fun to drive, open the pipes and smoke the tires, wake up anybody that may be sleeping within several miles. Blush But in this day and age the 4 to 5 mpg is definitely a no-go for me. Plus with the way that engine had been upgraded it would be almost impossible to find gas for it today. Sad

Jon, If you ever come out with the CFO during the late spring thru early fall time frame we have our main street cruise every friday nite. Acouple weeks back coming home from the museum I was lucky enuff to see a group of Shelby Cobras on their way to the cruise, in all that nutty traffic on the freeway I would have been paranoid as **** driving something like that.

The munchkin was here today, so needless to say grampa is kinda wore out tonite.

SJ, Let granny call you anything she wants as long as it ain't late for breakfast, dinner or supper. Big Smile

All these car stories make me jealous, never had a hot rod.  Sounds like a lot of fun!

SJ - I hear Granny has a thing for some Mailman!?  You better watch out, bro!

Still waiting for my train car delivery - arrrrghhh!  This is the worst part of preorders!

Evening all.  Bought a new Dell desktop with big flat screen.  Put it to work tomorrow if I have time.  Got 7:30 breakfast meeting.

Did not realize that Ioway had vehicles.  Thought they still rode horse and buggy.

Sunny and mid 90's again today.  Line of thunder storms rolled through about 8pm.  Didn't help the temperature much.

Yup.  Still got the '57.  It is one of those projects for later.  .030" over 350, Crane Fireball cam, headers, Holly 650, 4 speed.  Used to have a set of heads on it that were 'worked on' by Dick LaHae.  Those got transferred to a 350 '75 Monza which was sold.  Taking the front bumper off took about 50 pounds off of the 'right' end of the car.

Ya know, the old cars were neat, but really crude by today's standards.  My current 2006 Cobalt SS is about as quick as the '57 but it handles better, stops quicker, is quieter, has a better sound system, a bunch safer, and gets a whole lot better gas milage. It does not have the style or personality of the '57, though.

I guess when I was about 15, a friend who had a driver's license would come up with cars borrowed from family members from time to time.  I have very vivid memories of his cousin's AMX he had one night.  A 390 4 speed car.  I didn't get 'shotgun' so I rattled around in the package area behind the seats for that ride.

So far, about the only effect I'm seeing from our visitors from corporate is that they are keeping management busy.  Only problem with that is, that it creates 'decision lock' on the floor.  Nobody seems to want to step up and decide to get things done.  Frustrating.  My two main projects took a hit today with scheduling problems and a machine failure.  I know what needs to be done, the guys on the floor know what needs to be done, but we can't make the call and do it.  I left many e-mails and phone messages trying to knock things off off center to get going.  We'll see what happens tomorrow.  Had to delete a couple of those e-mails before hitting the send button and start over with a less inflamitory tone, too.

All for now.

Evening all!

Long day today starting at 5 am. Got to hospital at 6, son out of hospital and home by 11. All went well. Thanks for the kind thoughts.

All the anesthesia finally wore off late this afternoon and he has been "holding court" with all his buddies and good friends dropping by. He will be down for another day and then he can start moving around some more. Has to stay out of the water for about 10 days so no wakeboarding until we get to Tennessee. Crimpin' his style, but winds here have been so bad (typ 20 mph each day) that the lakes are so choppy not much fun to go out anyway. Weird to go out at 10 pm, its 90 degrees, and the wind is steady. Flag at the school down the street has stood out from the pole nearly all spring and summer.

Hope all are well and have a great day tomorrow!

Regards, Roy

Good morning all,

It may rain today in SE Indiana and not supposed to be as hot.  We tied 2-2 last night.  I did ok.  Slept well.  I had the regular fare on the dining car before sending it on to "Points East".  TBIL after tonight's game.  Victory yesterday by US was first time won their "group" in 80 years.  Remarkable achievement.  May actually be the favorite for the first time in a "knockout" game.  Game will be Saturday. No ties allowed this time.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Just a quick splash and go,

Roy.....glad all went well with your boy's day surgery, and hope he is resting comfortably.

Spent a couple of hours again hacking down trimming trees and bushes yesterday.  But the jungle is back under control.  I don't mind the trimming, but the clean up is a pain.  Then have to haul all of the stuff to the compost dump, today's chore.......wish I had a pickup truck.

Re the muscle cars of yesteryear......yup, crude by today's standards but they sure look and sound purty.  Back then 0-60mph in under 6.5 seconds was quick. Today it is common.

Later gang.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a humid 72 degrees. Rained hard last night. Going up to 88 today with sunshine.

Today is a busy day. Grocery shopping for the wife. I have chores to do and then, put all the groceries away. I will be busy. Maybe, this afternoon, I will get a nap. This weather needs to be re-adjusted.

Buckeye....Today he is on a special mission. He is meeting with the Iowa member on a "Snow and Bad Weather Conference for Roseyville ". They have plans for the freezing of crops and the 6 feet of snow forecast for NC. Should be a fun meeting. Plenty of corn to roast.

Dining car has arrived from Points West. I am having the usual Cheerios breakfast.

Y'all have a great Thursday.

Chuck

Aloha all. Beauty day here after more storms and tornado warnings which I was fortunate to dodge last eve.   I was crossing Jackson Blvd during the Canadian 'earthquake' and didn't feel it. Did manage to stream the big USA soccer game on a friend's iPhone during a long meeting. Wink Don, sounds like a great party. Sorry we missed it - next time, we'll leave earlier in the Tardis to get there whilst there's still food.  Jack, the traffics' so heavy on the 294 spur at all hours I don't think you could have your challenge these days.  I remember only the good about the old cars. My '73 Dodge Charger SE was a beast, and nothing as fine as the cars of today, but it at least I could tinker with it: no big black box and engine shield.  I didn't have enough $ nor smarts to keep it going well - did have to carry a long insulated screwdriver to start it.

Good Morning

Sun and 80s for the day.

Storms brought at least one reported tornado to Mich. last nite. Don't know what damage  may have been done. A trip to Kroger this morning found a lot of empty shelves where sale items were  suppose to be. Not worth asking for a rain check. Have a great day...S.J.

RT......glad everything came out OK.

DougM's and SJ's weather coming this way.  It's 88 and they have posted severe thunderstorm warnings from CT to Maine until 8 tonight.  We sure could use the rain.  The grass is already losing that green color, far earlier in the season than I can ever recall.  I may have to start watering the lawn to help out Mother Nature a bit.

Rich......hang in there buddy.  It seems there is an awful lot of change on the horizon for you.

Hauled a whole bunch of yard debris off to the compost dump, got gas for the lawn mower, and then went to town trying to beat the thunderstorms.  The heat really got to me and I barely finished.

Later gang.

 Hey ya'all,

Got the FIOS working, and tuned into RFD TV, learned how to kill that pesky KUDIZ ? (Those big leafy weeds that grows everywhere south of the MD.)  All ya need to do is inject some of that there hydrogen into the root base.  And it kills it all and leaves da other stuff alone.  Pretty good!  And the process is developed by a teenager!!  Marvelous !!  The only issue I see is that it doesn't cost enough, big companies wouldn't be interested.  Would record the "I Love Toy Trains" segment today, but havn't figgered out the record function yet.  Planning on doing that tonight.  Hopefully will be able to git the second airing today.

Wife not happy with the phones though!  Doesn't even want to have to dial the 10 digit numbers.  So I'm a fixin to record them in the speed dials so she wont be having dem problems.  BTW I found out that you can now request a phone number with ANY area code you want.  Or if you move to another state you can take the area code with you.  Also that it is just a matter of time before the entire country will have to dial 10 digit ALL the time.  Makes sense, since all the communication is now via satelite, the codes don't have much value.  So if you arn't having that issue yet, it's a comin' !

Havn't got the train room "straightened out" yet from the other day, do that tonight too.  Next time the Tardis (aka "Thingy") is in the area, definetly you'all set 'er down!  We will get all them engine whistles singin !

I've gotton a number of emails from the guys at the club, they were surprised to find out how much you can do with DCS and/or Legacy when they are working.  The wiring at the club need to be torn out and done over.  Many, many loose wires that are at best twisted together, short jumper wires all over the place.  Parallel loops wired for things that shouldn't be, (including lines going to same place on track from different xfmrs), just the overall all of too many Chiefs, and none with a plan.

When you talk about old cars and such, when I was in college, I was a "3 Car Family".  Had A Chevy Impala as my "Saturday Night Car", then a MG Midget as the "fun" car, (did Road Rallies, and coast driving,) then my 53 Ford Bread truck.  It had the accordian type door (1), was Forrest Green on the outside, with Competition Orange Roof on the inside, with Light Blue walls.  Had a Couch in it that folded out into a bed, and that qualified it with DMV as a "House Car".  Used that vehicle for the Beach.  Was definetly an attention gatherer!  It had only one seat that was bolted down, rest of the time we used either folding chairs or bean bags.

Chris off to Vegas AGAIN !  One of his friends just turning 21, so 4 of them headed out today.  They are staying downtown at the Golden Nugget.  Think they will have a good time, as long as they get back safe.

Need to get back to work, talk at ya'all Later, ya hear!

Need to get back to work, talk at ya'all Later, ya hear!,

Afternoon all!

Hot here as usual and possibly some scattered T-Storms building. Will probably miss my house.

Blueberryhill RR

Buckeye....Today he is on a special mission. He is meeting with the Iowa member on a "Snow and Bad Weather Conference for Roseyville ". They have plans for the freezing of crops and the 6 feet of snow forecast for NC. Should be a fun meeting. Plenty of corn to roast.

I love this stuff. The harder you Ohizo & mid-West boys work on the Chief - the bigger the backfire when winter comes!

The young-un is moving a bit on his own today. Told him the more he moves the faster he will heal. He actually listened to me. Must be the pain killers.

Have a great day all!

AMEN!!!!!  In fact Ioway is about to drown.

Busy day.  Now have new desktop.  B i g flat screen.

Off to the lake house until Tuesday night.
