Spanky, glad things went as well as possible for the service. Condolences again man.
Got an old cradenza out of the basement and did some structural work on a piece of wall that needed to be strengthened - right next to a door, so it will get some strain and blows from the kids slamming the door, I'm sure. Also moved a pipe over slightly for a water supply to a toilet. That's about it - went out for Chinese food for dinner, now a storm is coming through and I'm running on battery and talking with RT.
Thingie will be ready shortly - prepare!

Good Evening everyone. Well, we finished the movie filming...at least the scheduled items. Perhaps a few pick up shots. I am also working on getting a helicopter for some aerial shots. My legs are killing me, but I noticed a little spring to my step this morning. With any luck, I will be able to get some rest after work tomorrow.
I am sure I have missed a lot of information here. Hope everyone has been OK and their families blessed.Dennis

That 200 series Alco I was watching on e-bay is now over $100! Obviously not the beater I thought it was. Keep looking.
Spent time in the plant (donated, I'm salery) yesterday morning and again this morning. Hopefully, things will get cleared up at work this week and take the time factor down a couple of notches.
We finished 11th out of a class of about 20 last night. Running as high as seventh for a while. Have some sheet metal to unwad this week, though. The driver and I are still amazed that the left rear tire did not get cut up with the quarter panel rubbing on it for about half of the feature race.
Discovery channel is doing a series on dirt track racing this summer - Heartland Thunder. One of the episodes was filmed at the track we run at - Central Missourri Speedway. It will be aired on July 12. If you happen to see a black late model #52 in the background, that is the car I'm involved with. The team they were filming was only a couple of pits away from ours.

Check out Red Dead Redemption when you get a chance. The story in single player is intense the whole way through, and the online is also great. I was blindsided by the ending...amazing.

Some rain is heading to SE Indiana and some relief from the heat as well. After today it should be nice. Watched the F-1 race last night. Vettel sure had it hooked up, but lots of controversy beind him. I had cereal and english muffins for breakfast on the dining car this morning before sending it on to "Points East". I see where John Bakeer and I now have something in common. Both our teams lost in the first round of the Knockouts in the World Cup. Dennis W, welcome back from the filming. Looking forward to the movie. TBIL anytime and I can drive. I hope everyone has a good day.

Mornin' boys. Mornin' English. Another hot one. Took the family to the pool, as well as 3 guests. It was really nice down by the water, and I was the one who didn't want to leave at the end of the day. Placed new Carling beer truck (Convention offering) on layout, and ran trains wothout a pile-up. Tried to place some video on SPF, just haven't figured how to load them from photobucket.

Today is a busy day. I have a few things to do and PT this afternoon. I think the weather is making my legs ache, when it's really humid. I need to walk it out.

Feel really good about the progress and I think we'll be done by the end of July. Fife - About the only events I was interested in were the boat/dinner cruise and the banquet... since I didn't have the layout reay for visitors I couldn't justify doing it though. Have been rethinking the layout lately too. I really like my progress, but I am thinking I may rip it down and use all foam for the base. Reason being: 1) it will be a heck of a lot lighter 2) it will make scenicing a heck of a lot easier 3) I can actually go back to my original intent of making this movable 4) It will be more stable... I don't know though... lots of work to rip this apart and start over...

2" foam on top of 3/4" plywood worked for me. You are right, a lot easier for scencing. Just stick trees, etc. into the foam.
I can't decide whether to tear down part of the layout or bring in another prefab bldg. Would like to have room for a logging area and/or a coaling area. Hate to tear out the finished John Deere sales area though. Decisions, decisions.
Couldn't sleep last night, so naturally my mind turned to the layout!

Practiced sabbathing yesterday which means I read the paper really slowly and watched lots of sports on TV, then took the youngest to the park, where I read more of the paper. Let me start out today by giving thanks for a wife sent from above and a wonderful family that has been given to me. I deserve less.
Mid 90s steambath forecast for today, and it was 89 degrees at 8AM.
Got up at 6AM Saturday to let the wife sleep and to continue party prep before the actual 2PM launch. Granddaughters' joint, over the top b-day party/pool party/cookout for 40 on Saturday was an unqualified success. Some of the adult boys kept disappearing inside into the family room to watch the USA soccer game......until the hot, rent-a-Disney Princess Jasmine showed up to entertain the crowd (daughter and son-in-law handled the details).
One couple stayed late after the crowds cleared out to help out with the first pass at the cleanup, this after the husband had spent over two hours performing superhuman cooking duties (unasked) on the grill while the wife spent her day helping out with everything from soup to nuts. Later in the evening the grill was fired back up and he resumed his cooking duties a second time around. A finer couple my wife and I will never meet. Some folks just see what needs to be done and operate independent of supervision. Others cannot be bothered to simply find a clearly marked trash barrel or the recycling barrel, leaving it for others to clean up after them.
Got up early yesterday AM, half dead, to feed the older granddaughter and continue the finer cleanup details. Sent granddaughter up stairs to awaken wife/Sleeping Beauty." Seemed safer that way. Then at 1PM the daughter and SIL showed up with that special couple and their children to help put away the hardware (folding chairs, canopy tent, buffet tables). Then we resumed the celebration with the kiddies in the pool, grilling, and assaulting the massive amounts of tasty leftovers and beverages.....so much extra food I cannot describe. It was a great opportunity for my wife and I to tell the special couple how instrumental they were in the success of the party while tossing down a few in a more relaxed atmosphere. All I have left to do is to empty out the 7 coolers, stash the leftover beverages in the garage fridge, and clean out the pool.
Regarding the CTT site slowness......I am not experiencing it.
RT......so when is your wife's Mother Theresa Award to be bestowed? Congratulations on your 26th wedding anniversary! My wife is still waiting for the marital bliss to kick in. Thank you SJ for alerting us to this event

Pat......I truly enjoyed the "RULES IS RULES" photo story. Ya gotta admit, though, that the engineer had choices of where to stop. He chose unwisely, as did the empty suits.

Brutus....I have so much large, heavy, useless junk in my basement that I can't move myself that I will have to hire it done, from furniture to appliances to electronics (old TVs, monitors, etc).
Dennis returns from the wars to rejoin his family and reintroduce himself! Wecome back and congratulations on yeoman's work. The person upstairs is taking notes.
Hudson....if yours is anything like my family! We ignore the ocean beaches within a mile of our home far too much. The water temperature up this way is bone chilling.
Fife/John B......sounds like Fife should outfit the Fife schooner and JohnB should rent out the sloop JohnB, with the two of you meeting somewhere in the middle for a party.
8n.......I always like to chat with those who are hourly employees who complain about their hourly wage. In my experience, when one divides the hours worked (during the week, working evenings from home, and working weekends, or travelling on weeknds) into the salary it comes out to indentured slave wages. With a lower quality of life to boot. Some employers act like one shouldn't have a family or a personal life, and it is getting worse by the day.
JimmyT.....re the example of the monthly payments over a couple of years, ya gotta drive something! And if the vehicle becomes a money pit, you can always sell it and pass on the "challenge."
MikeC......can you please do something about those thoroughly annoying horns? South Africa tradition or no, it's like listening to fingernails scraping across a blackboard to me. Even beer doesn't help.
Chuck......I don't think the humidity adds to muscle discomfort. Joints perhaps? Ever notice how your drinking elbow is always working well and is in tip-top shape?
Brent.....if it were me, I'd take Fife's advice. Stop second guessing yourself or you will never see the finish line.
Roy......I never gave it much thought what a challenge maintaining the integrity of the foundation can be with clay soil in a climate such as yours. Expansion and contraction that can't be fully mitigated. Good luck with that one. I may complain about the cold, the severe snowstorm accumulations, the N'oreasters off the ocean, or the monsoons up my way. Maybe I should be greatful I don't have the weather you have. In the winter I can add layers of clothing, but in a summer such as you are having you can only take off so much clothing before some of the neighbors start complaining.

Jack I keep asking myself how has she ever put up with me for 26 years. I have been really blessed with finding her as most probably wouldn't of put up with me lol. We really do care for each other so that helps a lot.

Wife did get a bit of an early Birthday present Saturday ( today is her birthday) went out the front door to get mail and there was a envelope on the front porch with some $ in it for we won 1st place most artistic yard for spring 2010 It really surprised us and elated her so she asked what wanted to do with the money and I said just think of it as an early birthday present it is yours.

Pat, I saw those disaster pictures some time ago. It would be funny if it weren't so stupid. I can believe the Union Pacific would do something like that. I used to work for them.
Been away from the coffee pot for a day or so. I have been E mailing and exchanging pictures with a long lost cousin I got reunited with recently. Hadn't seen him in over 40 years. Took me a while to recognize him in pictures. Of course, I haven't changed. Only everybody else did.
Just had an update about the friend who lost his wife in an auto accident. He is recovering from his own injuries and has returned to his railroad private car charter business. Glad he is trying to get on with his life. Hope I could do as well if I had to.
June gloom is still with us this morning but July is just around the corner and when that gets here--look out! Hot weather is sure to follow. Been enjoying the cool mornings for walking for now.

Jack, you are right. I really need to set up a date night and let my bride know how much I love her. Problem with the movies on top of my other work...the paying kind that is, is that it keeps me away from before sun up till way after most bed times. Not only do I not get to run trains, I don't get to see my family.

Got word this weekend that the 1st AD on the movie got a EMMY award for one of his recent projects on Angola Prison. It has been great to work with such talented people.

Busy week here getting ready for vacation (long drive to Tennessee - about 14 hours). Leave on Friday and back following Sunday. Water sports, kids, picnics, kids, fireworks, kids, and fun in the sun! So will be out of touch for a week.

Jack - you got that right. Complaining is not descriptive enough if that were to happen. It would be ughhhhhleeeee and I not talking about just the visuals.
Was cleaning a paint brush out in the side yeard last night and found a crack in the yard an inch wide. Ran the hose in it for 10 min and never saw any water bubble up. Went inside and and set sprinklers to run every other day vs every third day. At some point soon we will go into watering restrictions so have to soak it now to prevent the foundation failing again.
The son's room is finished and man this is a whole new GREEN experience - need shades to walk in there. When sun comes through his window the whole room and everthing in it takes on a green tint. He loves it.
RT - congrats on the 26th! Our 25th is next year. Wife is already prepping me for it.

Hey BD, how is it going? We had a big family crisis and the basement project was put on hold. Wife had to go through some treatments and hospitalized for a long time, but we are on the other side of it now and things are getting back to normal. Started working on the basement again recently - need to drywall a bathroom and then mud/tape and paint. We'll hire out the floors, I think. How are you doing, man? Running trains?
Got home and found out the outside combination pad for the garage door opener melted down - battery blew up all over the place. Cleaned and put in a new battery, but now it will only trigger door to go down. I heard you can get replacements at Lowes or Home Depot that are universal, so I'll check that out first.
Tardis will be ready so turn on your beacons if you want a ride. The onboard movie tonight is Emperor of the North and Don fixed the popcorn maker for us after someone burned it out making carmel corn

PPS - Jack, I love my two-wheeler, works great! Archimedes was right, but he forgot the wheels!
