Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a sunny 60 degrees. Going up to 84 today with sunshine. Looks like summer is here.

Today is a busy day. I have an errand to run and then PT this afternoon. I feel a lot better working out 3 times a week. Looks like no train time today. Maybe this weekend.

Dining car is here and it's Cheerios for breakfast.

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 80s.  Just three days from the "Greatest Spectacle in Racing".  Hopefully the weather will hold.  I mowed last night between rain drops.  Toro ran fine again.  Lucas' girlfriend graduates from high school tonight and we are going to the ceremony.  She will be at IU next year as well.  I hope they find some time to study something besides Comparative Anatomy :-)  I had the regular fare on the dining car this morning for breakfast.  TBIL late tonight.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

...............Today has been interesting.  I decided to drive the PGT today, and everything was good until I got into the parking lot.  As I was looking for a space, some idiot in a blazer backs out of his spot without looking and goes into the passenger side door.Angry  There is a minor uncreased dent and some small scratches, but no other apparent damage.  The door cap, sideskirt, and window alignment were undamaged, so that is a good thing anyway.  I called 911 to try and get a cop there, but they couldn't do that because both vehicles were driveable and no one was injured.  I bought a Pops-A-Dent to try and get it out myself, but I have his info just in case.  Why can't this stuff happen to the Sunfrie?  With that, a Salvage title would be a blessing.Big Smile

JimmyT......sorry to hear about this snafu.

Regarding the PDR (painless dent repair) and a DIY repair......I am not certain why you are considering these approaches first.  A professional collision shop would be my first choice.  Best results and easiest.  That is what auto insurance is for.  The following is what I would do if the other driver is insured.

Plan A and my first choice, unless you are in a real hurry to get the car fixed:  I'd turn the matter over to the other guy's insurance company.  They adjudicate the claim after getting both versions of events and inspecting the damages on both vehicles (estimate).  The inspection will take place at a claim center of their choice closest to you, or they may send an adjuster right to your home.   If they find their "insured" is more than half at fault, they pay for your repair and for a loaner vehicle while your car is in for repair.  If they decide you are more than half at fault, then you move to plan B.

Plan B:  you turn it in to your insurance company and let them take care of it.  With plan B you can get your car repaired immediately but may have to pay your deductible up front until they investigate the incident.  You get reimbursed for your deductible after the insurance companies do their thing between each other.....a process in MA that must be completed in 15 business days.  If YOUR carrier determines it was the other guy's fault (more than 50%), you are not responsible for paying any deductible, regardless of what the other guy's carrier thinks.

In these instances I call my carrier right away so they are aware of the incident,  but I tell them I am turning the matter over to the "at fault" party's insurance.  They wiil note the call and advise you to call them back to handle matters should the other guy spin a good yarn with his carrier and matters go South.

Pros/Cons: Plan A is cleaner but can be slower, but no money out of pocket up front.  Plan B is rather failsafe and faster, but you may have to front your deductible which is refundable.  With plan A, I have found in the past the other guy's carrier makes the check for my damages payable to me and I can do as I please with the $.  In your case, if you want to do the repair yourself, you are at least compensated financially and are paying yourself to do the repair, parts and labor.  You mentioned "apparent damage."  What about damages you can't see?  Damages discovered when the door is apart and your repair is under way?  And then there is the paint match.

Concerns are always there.  You don't want to go to your carrier for every little thing, and you want to keep your claims record with them as clean as possible long term to keep your premiums in check.

And you may be shocked to find either carrier considers the damages a total, .....regardless of the car's condition.  They run with one of the blue book values which doesn't consider the true value in a private party marketplace.  They don't consider what the car is worth as a practical matter (pristine running condition) no matter what amount has been invested in the mechanicals and in the operating condition of the features.  And lastly, they certainly don't consider what the vehicle is worth to you.

I am going through this exact same parking lot scenario right now, chose plan A, and just got the check from the other guy's carrier for the full damages, plus the caveat they would pay for any additional hidden damages uncovered during the repair.  It took about 17 business days total from accident to check in hand.  The car goes in Tuesday to the collision shop (mine).  And I will be given an Enterprise mid sized SUV to drive while the repairs are being done.

Feel free to PM me if you want to go over this stuff in further detail.  A phone chat may be easier.

 Good Morning !

Made it to Vegas and back, Birthday celebration was a success!  Whew! what a day that was!!  I don't think I have seen anyone mix drinks as much as he did.  But some things you have to learn on your own, and believe me he did.  It was a VERY quiet trip on the way home.  A couple of highlights, Chris has wanted to go to the "Hofbrau House" for dinner and party.  Did that, he ended up on stage doing the "Chicken Dance", (I got that on a MPG3 video), and was "Spanked" by the waitress!

Also, went to a place called "Bonnie Springs", it is about 25 miles outside of Vegas, near Red Rock.  It is a old western village, that was built in the 50's.  REALLY COOL!  Didn't know it was there (after all these years).  Took some pictures will post them.  (Do a google search on "Bonnie Springs" info and pictures all over.)

Jim, CONGRATS on your Degree!!!  That's a major accomplishment!  And lots of hard work!  Good JOB!

Got to go get ready for work, have 3 days to make up for.

Oh, Doug,

Isolated Track - Yep your right electrically independent, with either an air gap or insulated track pins.

Insulated Track -  When 1 of the outside rails is insulated from the other.  When a car crosses it completes the connection, and typically activates a device connected to the insulated section.  (i.e. crossing light, etc.)   Little tricky to do with O27 need to isolate all the ties as well.

Aloha from a sunny and cool Chicago. I thought I'd be the only one working today but the train was packed like a normal weekday - not the precursor to a long weekend. Probably some sort of reflection on the economy. Fortunately, still not sick. Forgot the bride agreed to watch the pastor's kids tonight  - I may be doing that solo if she's still sick. Thanks for the feedback on insulated track. I think I'll call Sir J over the weekend with a piece of track in hand to figure out how to make one - his idea to activate the 45 gateman!

Don,

         Thanks.

Jack,

I was going to take it to get an estimate, but I decided to try it myself first.  Considering that the guy who backed into me was going on and on about how I should pay for the damage on my vehicle and pay to replace his bumper due to a small nick, I really don't want to get involved with this type of person.  At that point, my inner German came out and wasn't shy telling him what I thought of that.  A coworker who was nearby told me that she didn't think that I had that in me.Laugh

Before:

After:

After $20 for the Pops A Dent and a few hours, that is the result.  It isn't quite perfect, but it is better than it was, and it is a lot better than chancing having a crooked person sue or having a shop cut corners.  One problem that this car had since new was that the window wouldn't seat into the upper door seal.  However, after that guy hit the door, the glass seats properly.  Go figure.  At least something good came out of this since I don't have to tear the door apart and adjust the glass angle now.

JT - Reading back ovr your posts about the Probe... when you request an Officer to respond, thet must. Filing a police report is what you should have done, then filed a claim through your insurance. This guy could STILL come back after you and now you have no official backup.

I do hope it doesn't happen, but just warning you that it could. Rule #1 when you are involved in ANY accident - get a police report. No, Ifs, Ands, or Buts about it.

P.S. - It's a FORD, that explains why it takes an accident for evrything to align properly. Wink JUST KIDDING!!!

Huh!  I thought he hit you.  Sounds like the other guy was at fault.  He must be nuts thinking you should pay.

Don, glad you and Chris made it back from Vegas in one piece.  Did you ever see those pawn shop guys from TV?

Still trying to get PH balanced in my swimming pool.  Guy at pool store gave me the wrong amount of dry acid to add and got the whole thing out of wack.  Should have followed my own advice to Jack and tested things myself.  Pool store did give me some free chemicals to get things back in balance again.  Seems almost correct now but I'm taking in a water sample this AM for test.

Warm weather predicted for the week end.  Should be nice for memorial day   God bless all those who gave their lives for our freedom.  When I was in the Virginia National Guard back in the 50"s our unit used to go to the local cemetery on Memorial day to honor the founder of our battery who also fought in the civil war.  The ceremony was a volley fired over the grave.  Our battery served at the Normandy Invasion and suffered high casualtys.  My unit was known as Grimes Battery founded by Captain Grimes.  Sadly, the unit has been disbanded and has been absorbed through reorgainization into God knows what today.  The original unit was Battery C, 129thAAA Battalion of the 29th Division.  Our division patch was blue and gray, made up of soldiers from the North and South.

Brent,

When I called 911, they told me they couldn't send an officer, and when they transferred me to the state police, they told me the same thing.  I did contact my ins. company asap after this happened though and told them what happened.  I only have liability on the PGT, but I have full coverage on the Sunfire due to the loan.  The reason I have liability is that full coverage is about $600/6months while liability is $300/6 months, plus I don't want an ins. company determining what happens to me vehicle.

P.S.  At least I wasn't in my GM mess when I got hit.Wink  That would be like being inside a giant soda can and getting hit.Sign - Oops

SJ.......I've got a call into the President to see if he can pull some strings and get you in to see his doctor.  He didn't return the call yet, must be out dining with DougM and NAVYJACK as I understand he's in Chicago for the Memorial Day holiday, skipping the laying of the wreath ceremonies at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetary.  Wink

Hang in there.....the docs will figure this out.  Prayers this is sooner than later.

Good Morning, Finally a Saturday off and it is raining down the Jersey Shore. It took me 2 1/2 hours to make a 50 minute trip home from work yesterday, thanks to the "Bennies". It is my down time so I just relaxed and listened to the tunes and watched the idiots get all excited and cut each other off and the occasional impatient driver run down the shoulder and watch the trooper pull him over.

It is supposed to clear up so I have planned for today to prep the new boat trailer and swing the 18' center console over to the new trailer and get it ready for fishing.

Green 97 Probe: HE BACKED INTO YOU. He intimitaded you trying to get paid for his doing. I would have said nothing to him, exchanged insurance info and just put a claim into his company. Had the car fixed at a body shop and requested a rental to be paid by his company. I know that your first reaction is to fix it quickly and try to save money, but I am sure that he has a claim into your company and your rates will go up because of him and your door is not in pre accident condition. I have been in the collision business for over 40 years and I heard it all.

Busy day yesterday but a good one. I think I've been to heaven BTW. Member of the club who is the guru of Corvair repair helped me repack the rear axle bearings. His place is awesome. Like a goat exploded. Stuff everywhere! All kinds of Corvair parts and tools. Saved me about $4 - 500 if I had to send them back east for repair. The bearings aren't new but between 3 axles we were able to find two good sets of bearings and races. Have to be pressed in and out which makes for a lot of fun.

Then went to the crank shop and that was a great place too. Crankshafts everywhere! Some as tall as me. Got the few parts I needed to start the engine from the best remaining auto parts store in town. Felpro gaskets for a Corvair. Will try to start it up before I go back on the hill.

Going up to Tempe to spend the weekend w/ a friend. Another car project among other things. Maybe I can convince her to go to the live steam park on Sunday or maybe at least Roy'sBig Smile

SJ - hang in there. Hope they figure this out soon. If they try electric shock therapy make sure Doug isn't involved...Whistling

JimT - glad the dent repair worked out. Still a very pretty car. Oh, and my brothers windows are the same.

Hope everyone has a safe and fun weekend and thoughts and prayers for those still on the line.

Aloha all from sunny and warm Crystal Lake where I am off to the soccer fields, then hopefully it will be a quiet day - made the mistake of buying the kids Blackhawk t-shirts at the top of the market - won't tell you how much I spent - it's embarrassing. That was a funny line, Bob. (You're right.)  President's family is indeed in town. Got to watch the fighter jets loop above my office yesterday. Ray, our local Guard unit still does that on Monday - march to local cemetery, then lay a wreath before a newly restored Civil War /Memorial Day statue.  Thank you and the rest for serving!

Sunny and 80s today, good for the veggies. I slept good for a change as the new meds took over. My jaw is calmer but still having mild constant tremors. Oh joy more medicine added to my daily list but not near as much as those that take a hand full everyday. I hope every one has a fun but safe weekend....S.J.

Afternoon All !

What a day yesterday, Thumbs Down . Everything ran well just some guests I hope never come back to visit again. Sigh Got home just in time to grab a quick bite then sit back to watch the Padres game, fell asleep before the first pitch. Did manage to wake up in time to see the end of the game then crawl into bed. Dead

Everything unpacked and reshelved/repacked for their next trip to the museum.

The "Kid's Club" will be running the layout on Memorial Day, first group of kids will start a 9:00 am so gotta be in early to make sure all systems are go and tracks clean & clear.

Started working on the 4th of July Train. Want to bounce an idea off you guys, was thinking of trying to find a "beater" Vat Car that could be redone into a "Condiment Car", repaint and label the vats for catsup/mustard/relish/mayo(?) and maybe hang small plastic spoons from side of car for each item. Nobody has signed up to run on the Fourth yet, so it probably will not run the friday before as usual. This year it will actually run on the Day it is celebrating. Thumbs UpThumbs Up Approve

Harold,

I use the "squeak toys" for dogs from the dollar store, got six burgers and six hot dogs ready to go. Not to mention ore cars loaded with macaroni salad, baked beans, potatoe salad and chopped onions (all fake food of course). Plan on visiting Michael's tomorrow afternoon to see if they have anything I can find a use for.

Good evening all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 80s.  Did some outside work and some inside housework.  Went to Mass to pray for a safe dry race with the good guys winning.  About two out of three is the best I can expect as Team Red will probably win.  Went to the high school graduation for Lucas' girlfriend.  Very moving moment when one girl graduated with 3 Marines escorting her.  Turns out her brother had died recently while serving his country.  It makes you remember what Memorial Day is all about.  I had bacon and English muffins on the dining car for breakfast this morning.  TBIL and I can drive.  I hope everyone (especially me getting to the track, and AJ's and SFR's teams) have a good day tomorrow.  Look for us on ABC tomorrow especially if Sarah or Vitor wins.  We will be the last ones leaving the track.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana
