richhotraindbaker48 Had some really exciting news today!! Been doing a lot of pre-retirement analyzing and planning of financial situation. Then received an exciting bit of information in the mail. Seems Social Security was doing their qualification investigation, and came across an Annuity that I didn't know existed. And they recommended I contact the administrator for application of benefits. What a Shock! The annuity is held by Raytheon and has an estimated monthly benefit of $1 monthly disbursement. MY FINANCIAL CONCERNS ARE OVER. Sorry to drop in uninvited, but as a recently retired financial planner, my advice to dbaker48 is to look closely at the Lump Sum distribution option for that annuity. Could be worth one hundred bucks or more on an immediate basis! Rich

Rich,
Thanks for the idea, I'm thinking that there could be a "buyout" available as well, IF they don't have a minimum account requirement.
Consider yourself invited, your welcome here ANYTIME ! The only requirements that I am aware of is an "interest" in trains. We are not an exclusive O scale group. You certainly are welcome!
Don
Hi All,
Been having some more family fun. Daughter's in-laws 40th anniversary. Birthdays and the usual grandchildren's baseball and soccer games. The flower and veggie plants aren't in yet. Need to get my *** in gear.
Doug: Good luck to the Hawks
Sir James: Did you find a neurologist. If not e-mail me.
Prayers for all in need. Especially for those in harms way.
Good Morning
Sunny and 80s today

CHARLIE .... we'll NEVER have enough .... and welcome to the world of logging .....
Chatting with my great buddy RT on the chat this afternoon .... we finally caught up to each other ....
Don, happy birthday to Chris and have fun in Vegas. I love that pawn shop show too. Don't blow the annuity in one place.
Been working on swimming pool last two days trying to get chemicals right. Water looks good though. Kids are grown now so pool does not get much use. Would fill it in but it cost as much as maintaining it. Can't win.
Still trying to break in new walking shoes. Don't seem to be right. Maybe, I just got the wrong kind.
Welcome to the newcomers on the pot.

Good Afternoon From Sunny Taxachusetts,
Got up early this morning to clear out any hot air in the attic (with the whole house fan), button things up, and turn of the a/c to get a head start on today's expected high temps. Wife got cold, then I heard the complaints begin. May top 90 here and set a record high for the May 25 date, though it will probably be a tad cooler arounf my ranch since I get an ocean cooling effect, live a mile off the Atlantic.
Got caught in a miserable traffic jam last night on the way to NH. Three cars involved that we could see. The highway was shut down in the opposite direction. One vehicle was sitting upside down on the center jersey barrier with what appeared to be three kids in little league uniforms standing near the upended car. Hope no one was hurt.
Don....... to your Chris. It seems like only yesterday..... Hmmmm, 21 and loose in Las Vegas with you in charge? Sounds like things could get "interesting." Bring bail money.
Jon......as much as owning lakefront property certainly has its quality of life advantages, I think I would rather rent when I felt like it, leaving the headaches and expenses for someone else to worry about. My daughter and SIL are thinking of getting rid of their timeshare. Started out as a sweet deal on Cape Cod with the water on two sides views of Martha's Vineyard and Nantuckett. Started out as Heaven. Has turned into an "annual maintenance fee" nightmare, fees went up fourfold over last decade or so while provided services went down, fees still rising.
Mitch.....seems like yesterday you were up to your you-know with the school construction project. How time flies.
8N.....where on Lake Michigan did you and your son go camping?
DougDG......maybe I should hire Bill Murray for the pesky chipmunks. What would I do with a cat after Dodge has been cleaned up? Jon suggested rags soaked in kerosene and stuffed down the holes. I poured about 4 oz. of gasoline down a hole to help some ground bees relocate from my back yard. That was the end of them.....they pulled up stakes and relocated. Left no forwarding address.
Navyjack.....ferocious Doberman? Not mine. He sure keeps the Canadian geese and the rabbits at a distance. Re the poisons, I can't do that with the dog wandering around.
SJ......you had one super day! Help with the new hot water tank. Ya got the mowing done. Then the arrival of your Williams Alcos. Triple play. Are the 2023s in traditional UP colors? You and Charlie (Heisler) are a good influence on each other, though the wives may take issue with that statement......unless the two of you plus Kurt took up the pole dancer hobby like DonB did.
Banks.....Sorry your son didn't get that job. The job market is about as tough as I've seen it in my life, and the competition for each position even tougher. Prayers he lands something.
OleTimer.....re that late phone call, I can picture why Brutus might have been a little late with his first post today. Char probably hung up the phone......on his head......and several times last night.
Brutus.....send us rain! We need it! Is Char still thinking about a return to work in a couple of months? Prayers continue for her remarkable and blessed recovery.
MikeC.....the start of soccer season delayed? Say it isn't so!
Dennis.....when do you find time to sleep?
Rich-O...... Whatever these guys say, just consider the source. I think Don should put down his windfall as a downpayment on some lakefront property for Jon.
ANJDEVIL......the combination of you and Chemistry conjures an image in my mind of an accidental residential explosion.
Fife......it drives me nuts when folks can't bring themselves to disconnect and lose the devices......if not out of respect for others around them, thenout of respect for the children performing. I need a jammer.
DougM.....the Chicago Blackhawks are in the NHL finals! Yahoo! They haven't won the Stanley Cup since I was a Chicago kid back in 1961! Television had entered into American households about a decade earlier, and color programming was in its infancy. Ouch! That thought hurts!
Spanky.....I ran track in HS and college, a sprinter. Pulled a hammy and it was no fun, so I feel for you. Patience, my man. Re the back issues....that started with me 45 years ago playing baseball. More recently when my back flared up the Doc suggested both the back stretching and strengthening exercises, as well as my losing my 6-barrel abs (not 6-pack). I looked pregnant. That was 20 pounds ago. Since I, like Laz, consider beer one of the vital and essential core food groups, I had to give up other things and learn not only what to eat but how to make due with less in terms of quantity. Drinking 12 ounces of water 15 minutes before eating. Swapping out the Cheetos and Kit Cat bars with fresh fruit and raw veggies. Had to lose the calorie-laden sodas too. I gave a fleeting thought to a Lite beer but dismissed that idea as foolish overkill.
Chief.....not much out of you about your recent unde-the-weather status, unless I missed it. Continued prayers for your Mom. keep on those tomatoes. I need some!
To all who have adopted, thank you for your sharing your personal experiences. I felt a true sense of support with those posts, warmed my innards.
Anyone know what became of Roy? He seems to have become somewhat scarce again after York......must be busy with work-related issues or some such.
RaySP.....I may be seeking your advice about pools. We have a smaller above ground, and the wife has just informed me it has to be ready to go for the grandkiddies and their friends. My place has been volunteered to host a joint grandkids b-day party at the end of June. Think we used it 4 times last Summer. It is discouraging to keep on top of things (cleaning, chemicals, filtering, etc.) only to see the pool sit there unused.
Later, gang!

After a good chat with my dentist it appears I shoud see a nerve doctor. I'll do something soon just not sure yet. I ran the new Williams engine today, a few drops of oil and off it went just like the others I have. Also worked half way through CTT. Banilla is ready and so am I bring on the thingy...S.J.
Jack, since the pool is above ground, I assume it is a vinyl lined pool. The main thing is keep it sanitary with enough chlorine to kill algae and germs. The pool manufacturers recommend liquid chlorine for vinyl pools. Have a good filter and run it enough to turn all the water in there over several times. My pool is 15,000 gals and I run mine about 4-6 hours per day depending on weather. Hot weather needs longer filter times. You need to get a test kit and check the PH in the pool. If it gets too high you need to lower it with dry acid desolved in a bucket before adding to pool. If it is too low you would need some soda ash. You need a stabilizer (conditioner) to keep the chlorine from burning up in the sun too fast. The easy way is to take a water sample to a good pool supply store and they will test it for you and tell you what you need. I learned how to test things myself to keep those guys honest. Be careful that they don't try to sell you everything in the store. The people that work in those places seem to turn over a lot so see if you can find one that has been around a while.

Rich - Good to see you came over. These are a bunch of good guys.
Pulled hams are no fun. When I fell off the garage a few years ago the pulled hams hurt worse than the busted ribs!
DougM - Youngest daughter up your way last weekend to see a movie screening. She really likes Chicago. Second favorite after LA
Ran some trains in the garage with the girls tonight. IT was fun.
Going to do some reading, evening prayers then bed
May God bless

Hello all,
richhotrain, Hang around, these guys are great. My primary interest is Gilbert HO and they put up with me. I do dabble with my Dad's pre-war set under his Christmas Tree but that's it for me.
Busy evening got nothing done. Had an appointment to get my 5 year colonoscopy set up after work. Can't wait. Because I insisted on having it done on a Monday so I wouldn't loose two days of work, I'm not scheduled until the second Monday in July, the 12th I think. They keep after me pretty good though. Colon Cancer killed My Grand pap about thirty couple years ago. My first check 5 years ago was clean.
Then a trip to the local Wallyworld with Mrs. Supper and took ladder to church to change a couple of light bulbs. Greased Haybine, may cut hay tomorrow, looks doubtful though. I did look at Dad's wall but decided to call it a day.
Off to bed
Prayers for all who may need them

Evening all!
Got into a "busy" rut again and no time to post. Traveled for nearly 3 weeks straight.
Was able to finally get the boat out this afternoon and check it out for the Memorial Day weekend event. My son invited 5 of his friends to go skiiing and wakeboarding.
Hope everyone is doing well.
Have a great day tomorrow!
Regards, Roy
Sunny & mid 70's this morning, but disolved into thunderboomers and hail in the afternoon. The hail was marble size, so it just made a lot of noise and did not damage anything.
Welcome aboard Richotrain. HO stands for half O dosen't it? Always wondered if one could run an HO train between the center rail and outside rail of three rail O gage track.
RockIsland - we were at Claybanks Township park. It is a little rustic county park where my wife's family camped while she was growing up. We continued the tradition with our kids as they grew up. It is north of Muskegon and south of Silver Lake. Closest town is Stoney Lake.
All for now.
Roy,
Heard something tonite that should make your daughter very happy, In-N-Out Burger is coming to Texas !

We saw that on the news this morning. That is great news. Sure enjoyed the one you took me to! There can never be too many good burger joints!
Good morning all,
IIABSDISEI with temps in the 80s. Occasional rain may occur, but it is supposed to be sunny, dry and warm for the most important day of the year in Indiana (this Sunday). Not sure what I will do tonight with the delay of the season. "Glee" was good. Watched part of "Dancing with the Stars". Best person won. Work goes well. Welcome Richotrains! You will find this to be a friendly and entertainingly quirky group who do a lot to support each other. I had the regular fare on the dining car before sending it on to "Points East". I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,
Mike C. from Indiana
Hi GUYZ,

Stay frosty,

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....
It is a sunny 70 degrees. Going up to 86 today with lots of sunshine.
Today is a busy day. A few chores to do and then I am off to the Fitness Center to work out. I will spend about an hour there. Then, home for lunch and a nap. Life is good. Walking more with a cane. I'll be glad to put the walker away for good.
Dining car has rolled in from "Points West". Cheerios for breakfast.
Y'all have a great Wednesday.
Chuck
Morning all,
What a beautiful drive to work this morning! God is GREAT!!! Cheerios and oreos for breakfast, they should balance out. My boss hinted at another "special" project for me, oh joy. Won a plasticville cattle corral on the bay and it should be delivered any time. Hope to intercept it; my bride was not too happy when the All Aboard switch came in the other day
Sunny and warm already, high 80s today.
Had a great chat with the guys as Doug M rode home on the train. Lots of fine people to be found here. Granny just handed me a waffle with fresh strawberries and whip cream, I think one will be enough...Enjoy the day, tonite it will be gone forever...S.J.
Aloha all from a sunny and pleasant Chicago which would be paradise if it was this way year 'round. (I know, I'd end up complaining about something). Great ride home with, at various times, Brutus, Sir J , RT and Ole Timer. Class is over for the Spring. Hope it starts up again mid-June. Ray and Jack, I'll be right over to try out your pools. Always wanted one, even if only good for 2 months. No room in the yard and no fence. Jim, glad your daughter enjoyed Chicago - it can be a very fun place. Banks, I didn't know Gilbert made HO. I'll have to check it out. I like the smaller scales too - we're all part of the same family - I started out in N.
Doug Murphy 'We few, we happy few, we band of brothers...' Henry V.
Good Mornin' Ya'll From Hazy Taxachusetts,
Another hot one today, should top 90 again, 82 in Boston already. In 22 years of living here I have never had to run the a/c in May......until now. When the wife is comfortable life goes a lot easier. I don't know if I have developed an allergy or have a cold. Lots of yard work lately. Sleep deprivation is setting in.
Roy.....good to hear from you. We were worried you got bitten by a Texas-sized rattlesnake or something. CNN had a blurb and photos last week about a 15 footer found in FLA......didn't know they had rattlesnakes in FLA! You are a little late getting that boat in the water, no?
MikeC.....don't you miss the Indy 500 days when there were so many engines, manufacturers, chassis, and different set-ups? The top qualifying speed of 227.9 this year is still 9-10 mph slower than the speeds achieved 14 years ago. To me the race is still fascinating, but to me it is dumbed down and too vanilla. Like Nascar, it seems like the technology and vehicle variation has taken a back seat, and the soap opera atmosphere has moved too close to the forefront. Still arguably the greatest motorsports spectacle, but not what it once was.
Chuck.....the pictures you posted of you with your PT dominatrix reminded me of Sean Connery's last James Bond role in Never Say Never Again where he is an older Bond at a clinic to get his body back in shape.
8N.....memories of Michigan. Many folks don't realize Lake Michigan is about 120 miles WIDE until they fly over it going West to East or visa versa. My Dad's family settled further North from Stony Lake, in the Charlevoix area and the Islands. Well before I was born, my grandfather pulled up stakes with the family to seek better employment and a better life in Chicago back in the late 1920s. When I was a child we would drive back to visit relatives and spend time at Walloon Lake and the islands.
Banks.......hope the Docs have clear sailing.
JimSP.....doesn't it get a bit hot out there in the garage running trains with the little ones? Toy train boot camp with DI Jim in charge!!!!
RaySP.....I think the problems I have with the pool are self-inflicted. If I would just keep up with the twice a week water testing and the primary weekly chemical regimen I wouldn't have the problems I have. I also suspect my filter pump is undersized or not up to snuff, isn't circulating enough water. Will have to increase the hours per day to compensate or get a new one. But I get discouraged when I spend all that time with opening and maintaining the pool. Everyone is excited about the pool when those first high temperature days hit and they are enjoying things that first and second time. Then interest goes basically dead for the remainder of the Summer and no one will use it. I spend the whole summer maintaining.....for what? Just in case? Thank you for all of the things to check, especially the place I use to do the water samples. I think I will bypass all of the adults and start booking my granddaughters for pool time every Saturday when they come to visit, and then have extra pool attire for them just in case the adults say "Oh, I forgot!"
DougM......my advice, cultivate friends and neighbors who have a boat or a pool. Don't get these things for yourself. What I have found is these folks are a lot like me. They invest time and money, have too little use in our climes because of the short season, and are ecstatic when they can get some use out of this stuff by inviting others over/along. Add in the ocean and the requisite cooperating marine forecast, and the boat use goes down further. I like to get "there" early to help out my buddies with the boat prep/cleaning, stowing the covers for the day, pay for gas, or help with pool prep for the festivities. Bringing iced, ice cold beer in a cooler(s) also helps. By noon and before things really get going, the boys are full of good cheer. Many hands make light work.
SJ......like you, I don't like to use Doctors I have little or no experience with, especially specialists. I had a bad sciatica and the relative rookies were clueless as to the cause. Yes, clueless. For three weeks they followed all their standard operating procedures to locate the cause including MR imaging, but they could not find a cause or alleviate my symptoms. I was in total misery. So I asked for the oldest, most experienced neuro doctor in the network. Although also a surgeon, he concluded I was structurally sound and changed medications. Presto! Pain resolved in 3 days and subsequent no flare-ups in the ensuing decade. He also suggested I lose the beer belly and six barrel abs.
Laz......do you take your dog along for your runs on these 90+ days?
Just a (horrifying) thought. I wonder if Chief wears a speedo at the lake.
Rich......from the sounds of things you have left your mystery Harley problems behind.
JimmyT......with the new job and increased income post grad, can that Mustang GT be far off?
Later, gang.
