Heading out earlier, so Laz give 'em the TGIF bright and early.

Howdy guys - nothing much today.  Found out I have to give some training for two days next week, but that's no big deal.  Took son to Parent/Teacher conferences today and saw all but one teacher.  He did better than last quarter, but he has room to improve - mostly he needs to turn in his homework on time.

Wife's CMV numbers are going up - might have to go in the hospital for a few days just in case.  They will know more next week.  We were planning to go to KC over Easter, but that might be called off, we'll see.

Prayers for all of us and our friends and families, as always.  Glad to hear things are working out for Wes' family, Roy's daughter, Dennis' family and others too of course.

Tardis is ready - Old Mills are always On Tap, so let's hit it!

Evening All

Trying to get caught up on posts.  Been busy getting ready for Holy Week next week.  I did Stations of the Cross at the Elementary school for the first grade class, it was so great.  When we were done I got hugs from all of them, priceless!

May God bless, Good night

Navyjack, I suggest that you have someone call around, or perhaps you can check with your home visit nurse as a lot of MDs will take TriCare if there is no local VA rep.  We have a satellite of the VA that our hospital funds.  A couple of Docs who are also vets staff it.  They still have the limitations of amount of prescriptions handed out, but the hospital off sets that by providing the meds to vets at hospital cost.  With regard to your pains, if it persists, or you start to sweat and have pain, take your aspirin and get to the emergency room.  The next time you do get to the VA, ask your doc about taking low dose (81mg) Aspirin on a daily basis.  Most folks do well with it, but given your condition and other meds you may be on, only someone completely familiar with your meds and history can tell you for sure.  Some evidence has come out that certain folks should not take aspirin, but that is rare.

Was going through some posts on the movie web site.  It is interesting what some folks write.  Also interesting how many people who are not part of our church want to be part of the movie.  My thought is that people will know that the project is of God if they see a quality movie done without professionals who have been trained  up in the 'business'.  It has really been a blessing to see what He has done in the past and I am looking forward to what He will do in the days and months to come.

Roy, I am sure that your daughter's experience was a rewarding one in that she sees how out of control our lives are and that we always have to be alert....while she was not able to avoid this incident, thank God she, and anyone else were not injured.  I saw a young girl who had hit the back of a car that was stopped at a stop sign...she was on her cell phone.  When I came back after dropping my son off at school, the police were there and so was the girl's father....and he had her cell phone now.

Praying that the concerns of so many are met with peace and comfort.
God Bless,
Dennis

Was just on the "other forum" reading posts and one of them was discussing the "ultimate coupler" which would always work. If I wasn't so lazy and disorganized, I would find my ID and password and respond.

I, too, have been frustrated at times that couplers haven't engaged when I have been switching, but then I thought of the number of times I watched the Jacksonville Terminal Company switching crews break and make up trains and they often had to try two or three times for the coupling to take.

If any of you post there, how about passing this comment along. Thanks!!!

Good Early evening everyone.  Work was OK, but had a run in with a mid level management type.  She then went to director and was talking about me in the hallway...just as I rounded the corner, so I got the gist of the conversation as they realized I was there.  Anyway, we all head to the office and the manager was told to unbundle her panties.  I suppose she didn't have enough to keep her busy.  Anyway, rest of day was alright, but I had to deal with several issues with one person who made a few mistakes.  Both patients from yesterday are doing very well and should be going to the step down unit tomorrow.

Chief, I did catch that, but was laying low on discussion.  Don't want to get into any spats.  but will discuss off forum.  Speaking of not getting into any spats, the following is a part of a message from Handy Magazine that may affect some here:

"Do you live in a home built before 1978 that needs some remodeling? Trick question ... all homes built before 1978 need some remodeling.

That year, however, is important because lead-laced paint was used in more than 38 million homes before being banned for residential use in 1978. And starting in April 2010 (next week), the
EPA's Renovation Repair and Painting (RRP) rule takes effect; it requires that anyone paid to do a job that will disturb lead paint must:
  • Be EPA certified
  • Follow specified safety practices to contain and properly clean the work area, minimizing the generation and distribution of lead-paint dust
  • Pass a final cleaning inspection
  • Provide homeowners with proper documentation, including the Renovate Right pamphlet and a pre-renovation form

The bad news: Renovation prices may go up, what with more certifications, work requirements and inspections. The good news: Job sites will be safer for contractors and homeowners. "

For those who may be thinking of having house work done, just be aware of the issues.

Well, following work, I caught up with my bride who had to have a follow up mammogram as they had found a suspicious spot.  All is well, just a shadow on the X-Ray, nothing to worry about now.  Then, dropped van off for oil change and tire rotation.  Went to mall, spent a bunch of money and picked up kids.  Daughter put back window on Mercedes and the window would not go back up.  Have had this before as it is a common issue for MB and so we dropped that car off for another $500.00 repair.  Now it is raining, so I am glad I was able to drop the car off prior to the wet stuff.  In the end, no work done at home....oh well.

God Bless,
Dennis

Good morning all,

It is cloudy and mild in SE Indiana with rain forecast.  Slept well last night.  Drove to work today.  I did pick a good day yesterday to take off as the e-mails were flying all over the place.  Fortunately most of the comments were over my head and so there was very little collateral damage.  I had the regular fare on the dining car.  TBIL anytime tonight and I could probably use some Old Mils (for medicinal purposes only).  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Morning all....right Chief!  Case was cancelled for this morning, so I will head in shortly.  If I am not going to be there prior to shift change, I may as well wait for a little while so nurses can get a good idea of what is going on with the patients before I do rounds.  No sense asking questions if they have not had time to look into things....otherwise, I spend a lot of time standing around while they look it up.

Today may actually work out as far as getting some work done around here.  It will be nice to get into the train room.  8N, yeah, the mechanic catcher on those old cars....When I worked with my Dad, he would get some of the older cars in.  We had a large inventory of generators and magneto equipment.

Hope to check in later.  Seems I won another item I don't really need from one of the auctions.  Got a good price, so it's all good.

God Bless,
Dennis

Morning all.  Yes, I am up toooooo early.  These crazy Human Services Board members want to meet at 7:30 AM.   Get there at 7 AM for a free breakfast so that helps.  Most are NOT retired so they have to get to work.  Well, some are Dr's and we know they never work and make big $$$$. Whistling  Lucy and I may head to the lake house later.  Take the fertilizer spreader for the back of the JD and do the lawn there [so I can Mow and mow this summer].  Showers tomorrow.  That is good as I have cabbage and onions planted.  Sowed lettuce, spinich, carrots and raddishes.

SJ and RT, prayers for your families.

Chat later.  All have a great day. [I smell bacon and sausages cooking in Raleigh Dinner]

Back on the hill after a week off. Was happy to see the windbird still working just fine. Thanks for the comments guys. It was a long project but I'm happy w/ the results.

SJ - sorry to hear of your aunts passing, prayers for her and the family

RT - thoughts and prayers for your wife.

8N - LBT stands for Large Binocular Telescope (two 8.4 meter mirrors in the same mounting). They will be doing interferometry w/ the two mirrors, but basically combining the optical beams. The Long Baseline Interferometry that you heard about is when two telescopes in different places take data at the same time. This gives you a dish a that baseline length (can be thousands of miles) and high angular resolution. With other radio telescopes in Hawaii, we hold the record for the highest frequency and highest angular resolution work yet done. We can effectively resolve the structure of the black hole at the center of the galaxy, proving it's existence. We will again be doing this work w/ other telescopes in Hawaii and Calif. in just a week and are setting up now.

Roy - glad to hear your daughter was ok and that you got a good deal on a replacement car. My nephew just started driving and just sent him and email about some repairs it needs, so I keeping him in my thoughts and prayers too.

Doug M. - good thing I wasn't drinking coffee when I read your Bismarck quote:)

DJ - glad to hear your tire experience wasn't much more exciting. Is it a Monte Carlo SS?

Well brought up an ore car and caboose I just got w/ me. The caboose was a whopping $2. The ore car is one of the TTOS/Gadsden Pacific from one of the mines I worked at. Also brought the Amtrak Alco PA to clean and grease (it's new but 15 years old) and the Japanese tinplate loco from my grandfather. May try some more snowshoeing this week w/ the new poles.

We're due for rain - don't know how much, but I think through or well into tomorrow.  A friend/co-worker's mom died, so I have a funeral to attend on Friday.  Tomorrow is either Chinese or Pizza lunch day with my "work wife" Fran.  She and her hubby, my friend Gary, have a 20 plus year old son and he is going to try and go into the army in a few weeks - wishing him (and them) luck on this.  He's a smart kid, but really bad at taking tests.  Lots of meetings at work today, so very little work got done - guess I'll have to work twice as hard tomorrow!

Prayers for RT and fo!r all of us and our friends and loved ones here on the coffee pot.

Tardis is ready.  Pat, you can drive tonight if you feel like it?

Cloudy, 50's and drizzle here.

I find that I'm getting a little more picky lately about my train purchases.  Only looknig for a few pieces at a price that I want to pay.  It takes some dicipline to put a bid in on e-bay and let it ride - not to get caught up in the bidding frenzy.  Even with this approach, I've probably doubled the size of my collection since I've gotten back into trains 4 or 5 years ago.

Trains are therapy, aren't they?  Does that mean we could use them as some sort of deduction on the income tax?

Dennis - a long time ago, I used a similar method - inavertanatly - to tell when the points opened on a small block Chevy.  I had the coil wire pulled off of the coil, and was using the ignition key to bump the engine to TDC.  Only thing I forgot to do was to turn the key to the 'OFF' position.  When I turned the distributor, the points opened, and fired the coil.  The only problem was that my hand was resting on top of the high voltage terminal of the coil.  This was a double whammy too.  You know how the front edge of a 1957 Chevy hood kind of hangs down at head level - whacked the back of my head on the hood as part of the reflex action from the shot from the coil.

All for now.
