Aloha all from a clearing and cold Chicago. Ran trains last night. Then the 520 stopped and wouldn't go forward again. Wonder what happened. Didn't hear the e-unit cycle either but there's power to the track and nothing derailed. Hmmm.
Happy anniversary, Sir J. And many more. THanks for the guidance on weeding and seeding.
Jack
, wow, that's a lot of water. Funny, the middle boy has been enjoying himself in Boston for the past few days. Didn't mention wet. Too bad you did a good job with cleaning.
Ray, Johnny Gimble is still with us. Hasn't been on the road for a while though. I too miss Chet. I love PHC on the radio. He does find some talented folks. We've had some issues lately with someone going after our neighbor's chickens in broad daylight. There's a lot of brush in her backyard  - she thinks it's a fox. I think it's a coyote.  Too bad we can't do our own critter-cleansing...
Fife, hmmm, guess where the bride is going today - for the sake of the youngest? Build-a-Bear. There's one on Fifth Ave in NYC strategically located right outside GCS. When we were there at Christmas, the youngest marched down the ramp and out the door and right into the store. 'Here it is.' he said. The power of advertising.
Dennis, Chief, Brutus, Pat and Roy, sounds like a nice weekend.
John, that's a good memory-check. For as much as I loved my '73 Dodge Charger - half the time something that fell off needed replacing or the engine needed tinkering. Though that was much of the fun.
NavyJack, if those engines are PS 1, I think you need to replace the batteries with good ones before they are powered again.

Almost forgot.......Chuck recently talked about cleaning his track.  That inspired me to do the same, so yesterday I got out the isopropyl alcohol and paper towels and got at it.  Wife was so impressed and inspired with my thoroughness and attention to detail that she got out the out the old cotton t-shirts and furniture polish......and handed them to me.  Banged Head

Morning all!

Busy day today. Gonna be nice and sunny.

The new Lionel and MTH Tinplate catalogs look pretty dangerous to my budget.

Have a great day all!

Good Mornin, Ya'll, From Rainy Taxachusetts,

Sorry for yet another absence.  I am behind on the goings on and will worry about that later.

Early this past week the local weather boys commented:  we have had 19.91 inches of rain in March, the third highest (March) month since records have been maintained and the sixth highest month of rain totals ever, at least since records were recorded and maintained, a span of about 130 years.  We had just .5 inches during the week putting us at over 20 inches, nothing to be concerned about except it would delay the decline of the river and stream levels, and the water table, while folks are fighting to recover.

Now this.  We are going to get another 4-6 inches of rain today, tonight, and into tomorrow.....and my house is on the edge of the 6 inch portion of the weather map.

This does not present a problem for me personally since I sit up high enough, plus I don't have a problem with ground water.  The water tables are maxed.  But I have neighbors and friends who have not been so lucky.  This storm may sap them of whatever resolve, determination, and hope they have left.  One couple deposited their entire basement at the curb, uninsured losses.  Got the heating plant, electric, and hot water back.  But now this.  Ugly.

[political comments removed]

Jack.

Good morning all,

It is cloudy in SE Indiana.  I threw down a small loop of Fastrack and a siding and ran the Alaska Docksider with three old O-27 Alaska tank cars last night.  The short O-27 cars are all shorter than one piece of 10 inch straight and so the sidings can be relatively short and still hold the cars with a margin for getting the engine aligned properly to couple.  I also worked with the LEGOs as well.  I had bran muffins on the dining car for breakfast.  TBIL anytime.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Good Evening,

It has been a great weekend. I never got to work on the tractor or log splitter yesterday. I helped my son work on his truck instead. We had a good time and a lot of laughs as he learned that off roading a 26 year old or any vehicle can lead to "premature wear".

Did you ever notice that when you mention about an old muscle car or any old vehicle the normal reaction is to reminice about them, think about how great they were and you seem to forget about what a pain they were and all of the break downs and maintenance compared to cars of today. In the late 1960's, early 70's I worked in a large garage which was primarily a body shop, but did all forms of mechanical repairs and it had a salvage yard that bought and sold cars. It was the best place for me to work. I bought, repaired, drove and sold many a muscle car. Out of them all, the biggest disappointment was a 1963 Chevy with a dual Quad, 4spd, 409. I had a 1963 Ford Galaxie with a single 4bbl, 4spd, 390 that ran rings around it. Go figure it. Enough on cars.

Doug, the money is good but I hate to see such sorrow in people losing everything. When disaster strikes, I see a lot of our guys skipping lunch and dinner breaks to restore people. We are still under a flood watch until at least Wednesday.

Fifedog & Rtraincollector: If you think that the other sex is bad at Build-A-Bear (I saw what happened with my Wife and a friend of ours with her Granddaughter) beware when they go to Walt Disney World at the Disney Village Toy Store in the Mr Potato Head and Lincoln Log make your own section. My Wife bought for Grand children that we don't have yet.

Roy: Congrats to your son on his goal and I wish them luck.

Prayers to all in need.

John

Evening all.  Ran errands all afternoon.  Wind blowing real hard!!!  One county up from us is under tornado warning.  We are under a watch.  No rain yet.  Was suppose to rain by noon.  Just been real cloudy and windy.

Got two of the engines in Leagcy.  Wifey called and had to go to her Mom's and pick her up.  SIL and her had gone shopping and she went back to her Mom's from the mall.

Popcorn time so may not get the other engine loaded.

Have a good night's sleep.

Evening all!

Son's soccer team lost one yesterday to the team that took the championship last season (his team came in second - beat out by a yellow card). They won their game this afternoon. My son scored one goal (on a penalty kick to boot!) and assisted on another.

Getting ready to leave for dinner at the local Mexican food joint. Daughter invited us to join her and her friends (so we can pay of course).

Hope everyone has a great evening and a great day tomorrow!

Regards, Roy

Partly cloudy and in the 50's today.

Went bathtub shopping.  Found one we like, but won't be in stock until later in the week.

Got sniped last night on the beater Alco 200 series I had a bid in on.  Impressive job too - landed the bid with about 2 seconds left.  There will be others.

GO GREEN  - Michigan State advanced to the final four.

Second race of the F1 season still shows promise of an interesting season - McClaren wins, Renualt 2nd and Ferrari 3rd.  Nobody seems to be dominating, though the rain might have had something to do with it.

All for now.

URGENT notice on possible financial and savings depletion scheme!

I recently escorted the female members of my immediate family to the local center of commerce.  There, I was led into an establishment, that after 5 minutes to the astute male, was designed so diabolically to dwindle one's alotment of potential YORK funds...

It's call the BUILD-A-BEAR store.

Females under 18 years of age (and at least one 40-something) lose every vestage of self control, as they are hand-led by nurturing staff, who cater to every need that a stuffed piece of fur could want.  And then these females are turned into frothy, doe-eyed, credit-card grabbing zombies.  This retailer has everything covered, even a slick little animal carton to wave past other female targets on the way to the parking lot.

Got to admire the genius though.  These scoundrels should be tapped to turn the US economy around.

AGAIN, AVOID THIS ESTABLISHMENT AT ALL COSTS PRIOR TO APRIL 22-24.

That is all.

Fife you keep going there so when we get to york your one less to worry about fighting to get a good dealWhistling and the rest of you like Chief, Ole timer, Dennis, and the rest of them rebs as thats wht the store was developed forMischief

Evening all just got back from going to lowes & Walley world didn't spend much more of a trip to waste time. (thank-you wifey)

Good Afternoon everyone.  Home from church and lunch.  I was originally not supposed to do anything but attend church, but, wife had gotten called to work today and she was suppose to do the child care at church.  Then, wife wanted me to cover for her with the child care.  Got a call last night that I needed to do the lights...been quite some time for me to do that, but the guy who was scheduled was called to deploy to mid east.

I had bid on a couple of engines for the bay of E, but have been outbid, so I guess I will hold onto my money.  Going to take a nap before heading back to church tonight.  Hope each of you is blessed in this lead up to Easter.

HI GUYZ,

Forgot to say that NHRA DRAG RACING, the real and only good racing, is on today on ESPN2 today at 5pm.  Is coming from of all places, North Carolina.  I watched it last nite from 7-830.  They call it 4 wide, yep 4 tracks going off at once.  Very fast and way tooooo cool.  Check it out.

laz57

Thanks Laz.

I'll check it out. They haven't started the NASCAR race yet (rain delay). If races overlap, the remote will get a work out.

Good morning and a blessed Palm Sunday to you all.

Chief, glad to hear you like Prairie Home Companion. I miss some of the good pickers he has had in the past like Johnny Gimble and Chet Atkins etc.  I think Chet has passed on but don't know about Johnny.

What kind of problems are caused by the foxes except stealing chickens etc?  I have that Burl Ives tape with the song about the fox on it.  You know the one about stealing the gray goose.  Forgot the real name of the song. "John, John, the gray goose is gone and the fox is on the town oh" was one of the lines.  My grandma used to sing that song to us.

Dbaker,  I haven't used that recording feature on DCS for a while.  Sounds like fun.  Will it record more than one train in the same operating session?  I'll have to try it again.  Think of the possibilites if you used that with an AIU as well  for thowing switches and lining up routes etc.

Happy birthday Spanky

Laz, nice story about the wedding

Got to get ready for church,

Later,

Went for a short outing on the snowshoes this morning. It was amazing how quiet it was.

Chief - thanks for the info on the .17, it's seems an interesting round. I've always liked .22s so I may have to look into that some day.

I made my first attempt at the SPF. The detail is a little crude, but I hope you guys like it.

Off to grab a few hours.

Hmmm, sounds like a possible "kitbash" idea for Lionel's barber shop and a sound clip from "Grand Torino". Whistling

Mornin' All.

Looks like it wil be a bit warm today, hope the winds aren't as strong today as yesterday. Think the crud mite be finally starting to let go.

Did a quich scan of the new catalog. My only comment is thank goodness for E-Bay, they are all pricing me and probably a lot of others out of the market.

Have to finish up a few more projects for the Easter Bunny Train for Good Friday at the museum. Wonder what a Challenger would look like with Bunny Ears ? Clown

sir james I

Good morning All

Cloudy with rain possible, going to 50.

Doug M. crabgrass killer now and then seed in about two weeks. Plenty of time for grass seed to take. ..S.J.

Humm, and we are mowing grass. Confused

Bob, there are two rounds in .17 now.  The one I have [.17 HMR] is most popular and it is the .17 grain bullet [can now get a .20 grain bullet] with the polymer tip [Hornady calls it a V Max] on a "necked down" .22 Mag. cartridge.  Hot, flat and fast.  Then later there came a .17 on a "necked down" .22 long rifle cartridge.  Not the same performance.  I believe it comes mainly in a pistol.  The only thing I do not like about it is, shooting larger animals at long range, you hit body mass and it will knock down but not kill instantly.  Closer range and head shots, its over.  This is why I just bought a .243.  The fox I shot the other night was shot body mass due to no light conditions.  Did not kill him immediately.  Do not like that.

Back from Sunday School.  Got two new engines I still have not set up in Legacy adn picked up another Lionel Legacy NS Dash 9 dummy [the one with lights, smoke and couplers].   Maybe I will get time to do that today.  Also got a K-Line [original] Alleghany with cruise coming by UPS.  New in the box.  Got it off of OGR at a steal.  Hope it arrives tomorrow.

Off with wifey to run some errands [her shopping the sales at Walgreens and etc].  Later.
