Aloha all from a sunny and warm Chicago. I'm sorry for all the wet out east. My son is still enjoying his Boston spring break sojourn. I'm home today - partly because my allergies are very bad and partly because our neighbor took our youngest on an overnight and the bride and I have a rare day without kids. Unfortunately, she has lots of other plans in mind for our day. Great ride home after class with Sir J and Brutus.

Good morning all,
IIABSDISEI with temps in the 70s. As most of you know, I will be starting a "new" job on the 5th, and I am taking the next two days off. Until I get the "lay of the land", I will probably be posting more in the evenings than in the mornings on the pot. A lot of people went "above and beyond" so I could have this new position, and I really want to get off to a good start with them. I do not anticipate any difficulties, but there will still be a learning curve and adjustment period. Who knows, I may be back posting in the morning regularly fairly soon (I know the Chief will miss my early morning soccer reports :-) ). I went to the YMCA for the first time in a week and I think I overdid it. I did watch "Lost" and "V" last night. I also saw where they kept "Kate" on "DWTS" and dropped Shannon Doherty. Go figure. I had bran muffins on the dining car for breakfast. TBIL after soccer tonight. I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,
Mike C. from Indiana
Morning all. Holding daughter in one arm trying to type with other. Roy, hope the drama is minimal today. Yeah, it is neat to find treasure, but it is better if you can keep the finds. Wife is under the weather today, so I will be stepping up to the plate to pinch hit with the kids.
God Bless,Dennis

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....
It ia a clear 40 degrees. Going up to a sunny 70 today. That's good.
Today is a busy day. I have some phone calls to make and chores to do, this morning. Then, I have PT this afternoon. I will ache tonite.
All the snow has melted, here. The grass is starting to slowly grow.
Dining car is here for the usual breakfast.
Y'all have a great Wednesday.

Let's see, we've got one dike patrolling, and one lizard wranglin'...I'm just gonna take a looooooong sip from my coffee cup and back slowly away....
HI GUYZ,
49 and gonna be NICE today. Going up to 68. Had some wet snow yesterday, crazy weather. Forcast for opening of TROUT SEASON here in SE PA is for high of 79. Oh boy, gonna catch some trout and it is the opening day of cookout season at the outdoor fire place along with OL MILs.
Stay frosty,

Well I am doing pointing w/ the 345 GHz receiver until the wind shuts us down. Supposed to be pretty windy tomorrow, w/ a system coming thru Thurs. and Friday. The Massachusetts contingent has arrived and will be setting up tomorrow. I'm hoping to get out of here fairly early as I spent enough time the last week, plus I have another date.
I cleaned and lubricated the Sakai tinplate engine that was my grandfather's. Boy, was it dirty. I think he ran it quite a bit. I took out the directional switch he installed and rewired it for forward operation. On the track it goes for a short bit, and then the transformer overloads. When the transformer resets it goes for a bit again, and then stops again. I'm pretty sure I've got the wiring correct. I'm going to test it at home w/ one of my larger transformers although I find it hard to believe that this one won't run it. I've signed up to join the yahoo group for these trains, but the moderator has yet to get back to me. No rush, but I'm curious as to what is the problem.
And another thing. The last few mornings before I've gone to bed, I've run the train in the shop. I usually check my blood pressure before I go to bed, and interestingly enough it's been lower after running the train. It usually is within limits, but now it's right on the money or even lower. So running trains is good therapy (Chuck, I think you are on to something).

Buckeye Riveter One of the quirky things about my profession is that we are trained to read sanitary sewer maps and during a flood in 1978, I was assigned to patrol a dike at night with the fire department. My job was to warn them when they were in the vicnity of a manhole using the sewer map. During a flood manhole lids can be blown off and the fear was that we would loose a fireman down the hole. I have also had the privalage to watch propane tanks float down the Ohio River.

The better half has had me workin my tail off the past few days, gotta make sure everything is up-to-snuff for Easter gathering. Let's see, landscaper, stone mason and, the funny one, a lizard wrangler. SWMBO was repotting some of her African Violets and apparently a lizard about 8" long wandered into the family room. I heard her screech all the way out front.
Been mostly just readin' been to pooped to post, heaven knows what it would have looked like anyway when all the letters seem to look alike on the monitor. Hopefully the rain will hold off for awhile tomorrow so I can finish a couple more items in the yard.
Did manage to score one of the Missile Launch Vehicles, anxious for it to arrive so the munckin & grampa have a new toy. Now the hunt for a few additional cars to go with it, especially the sound car.
Later all, about ready to fall asleep on the keyboard.

Nite, nite.
Before signing off wanted to add one more thing. I had some posts disappear after scribbling for a bit but noticed something. If you have a post vanish after hitting the "post" button don't do as I did initially and turn the air blue. Hit the "refresh" button, since the last time I had one vanish I've been doing this and lo-n-behold the entry reappears as a completed post.

Good night all. Will treat the Alleghaney with TLC. Got Brent beat as it has run over 30 minutes and still going. Think Steve's [repariman at Miss Edna's] has had his running longer too. I was there when he finished installing cruise and put it on her layout. Ran good while I was there. Sorry Brent got a bad one. If the "board" goes, install a ERR one and keep going.
Got a deal on a gas golf cart. Will bring my electric one back home on Sat. evening. As soon as I get free time, take it [if neighbor does not buy] to dealer for a trade. Electric does not work good at the lake as up and down hill.
Got to hit the bed. Lucy has early "beauty parlor" apt. Then I have a new liquor store [ABC here as County run and state regulated] grand opening at 10 AM [wonder if they give out free samples?? ].
Good night.

Buckeye RiveterJon.....Yesterday, NE of Buckeyeland I saw snow still on the ground and you think Iowa has long winters.
Buckeye--less than a half mile from our home I rode past a huge snowbank still smiling at me today, it was also 77 here. That snowbank will be here through the weekend, it was a monster

So many roads, so little time.
Chief ... I've had my alleghaney for almost 3 years now ... NO problems ... it still runs and operates like a new one ... guess Brent got a bad one ... if my hobby shop took over 2 years to fix an engine ... I think I'd change repairmen .... LOL . Surprising to me they're still selling for high dollar ... even used .... so they must have done something right in most of them .

hello guys, hope that everyone is fine hope that the guys from r.i. get through that flooding ok. chief the 2-6-6-6 is a great looking engine. when it was first introduced, i drooled over the virginian version. even at 399.00 suggested retail it was too rich for my blood. i am real glad for you though. also pat how are you? hope that you are doing well. and dennis sounds like fun when you were exploring the old house. lots of old memories. better be careful who you tell about that 16 gauge......someone might take it away.......navyjack
Good evening everyone. Had a good day. Did a bunch of scouting with the Director of Photography and a number of other folks on this next project. One place requires a scene in the attic. I went up and found a box of old tracks and a old Lionel gondola. May be some more there, but I didn't take any of it. It is a old house that will eventually be demolished, but I don't want to set a bad example and others may take because they saw me. I will check with the VP of the place that owns the old house. Still, it was a neat find. Also found an old 16ga shotgun and some control box for checking old TVs.
Still, it was a productive day and very good to see everything coming to fruition. Most of the crew will leave tomorrow morning to return when filming starts.
Jack, the school is great for things like that. They really get families involved and teach kids so much more than most school systems. You should see the Veterans Day celebration they put on. They get a number of relatives dressed in their uniforms, a whole lot of retired military, and then a bunch of guests of honor from the local Marine Corps Base. The kids sing for them, then hold a reception where they serve them lunch. Also, they have a video that really brings home the message of what our vets have done that we may be free. The same director and crew that we make the movies with did that. With regard to Grand Parent's Day, they have the kids host their grand parents and serve lunch, etc. Then they get to show them what they are learning and in the end, present them with cards.
Chief, ya still got me thinking about that engine. Perhaps some day. I remember a hobby shop that had one for $259.00, and I passed it up. I would certainly buy it now. That was going back about 8 years ago. Oh well.
Its still raining here in RI. Pawtuxet River is expected to reach 19 feet above flood level and route 95 is shut down in southern RI.Lots of roads closed. Luckly my house is on high ground.Only a little leaking around bulkhead.Ground is still saturated from last weeks rain. to those who need them.Congrats to SJ and his bride.
Hey Guys...
Long day today and unfortunately a short night, I can sleep for 4 hours then up again...this is getting a bit ridiculous.
Was up to 75 and very breezy....tomorrow is Bike Day...the Mrs needs the company car, so I'm 2 wheeling it.
I have a friend who lives in Bound Brook, been flooded out already and looking at getting it again...Had no power for a week and no heat for 10 days...told him to move here, he said thanks but I'm not moving to he*l...smart boy.
Thursday is pay day and pay off some of them bills...April Fools!! he he he!
- for all that are ailing - you too, Fife!
Check back later, if I'm up....
Good Evening: Getting jealous of everybody's weather, Roy: 82 & sunny, SJ: sun & 57. OUR'S: HEAVY RAIN & FLOODING. Spanky, I hope that the homes in Wayne are alright. GN Mountain Goat, I believe that you said that you live in Bound Brook? I hope that your home survives this next round. It rained hard all day in Cental and North Jersey and we are under a flood watch if the areas aren't already flooded. My thoughts to all affected.
SJ congratualations on your anniversary.
John
lionroar88 green97probe Chief, That is a great piece. I know Brent was having some issues with an Allegheny, but I can't remember if it is one of the K-Line ones. Good luck with it. SJ, Congrats on the anniversary. Dropped the PGT off at the bodyshop earlier. Very nervous about it at the moment. Jim,Your memory is better than most!Yes I bought one of those K-Line Alleghenies about 2 years ago. I only ran on the layout for about 2 minutes, then stopped. I opened it up and a part from the R2LC fell out, ordered a new one, installed it, it ran and smoked like a beast for about 2 minutes. I took it to the LTS to have it fixed and haven't seen it run since. I stop in every now and again to check on it but still no luck. I know the electronics expert is looking into so it could be a few more months before I hear a verdict. Most likely it will become a shelf sitter.

Hope all had a good day.

Jack,
There was a rust spot on the roof above the door on the driver's side. Tried to fix it myself, but got into more than I can handle.
OT,
Thanks. I'll get BC2 at some point. I have yet to hear any negatives about it, so I'll get it as soon as it get more $$.
ChiefEagles Got some "special" tomato plants in greenhouse and one is about three feet tall. Got some special seed from Burpee that says sweet seadless tomatoes. We'll see.
Chief - Never heard of seedless tomatoes. Great for those of us with Diverticulitis. Its a chore removing the seeds to make a tomato sandwich.
How do you start them from seed when they are seedless?

Good Afternoon, Ya'll, From Deluged Taxachusetts,
First.....I am still dry. More of the usual. Gale warnings. Winds gusting to 45. High tides and coastal flooding. Beach erosion. Rivers back at or over flood stage. Evacuations. The National Guard is out sandbagging and helping with evacuations using those WWII landing craft Duck boats that can be driven on land as well.. State of Emergency declared. Dogs and cats sleeping together. Everything!
I've measured about 4+" of rain since yesterday. The pond at the base of my back yard is over the banks again and the neighbor's driveway is flooded, water soon to take up residence in her basement. This is the worst March for rain since formal records began back around 1880. Some places the worst flooding since Hurricane Diane hit here in 1955. As far as single month rainfall records ever, we were at #3 going into this storm. And it is not expected to stop until later tonight sometime. A buddy of mine from Northbrook IL. called an hour ago and said his media coverage is not mentioning Ma. too much in its coverage of the East coast flooding.
SJ.......glad you have sun today. Send some my way!
Bob.....Your pictures of your work surrounds are stunning. Thank you for sharing them with us. When does your snow disappear?
Chief......sweet engine. If your inventory is getting overloaded, you can store some at my place. Why don't you call CSX and see if you can a deal on shipping me some tomatoes.....over $3.00 per pound and rising.
Laz......you have really been hauling on that addition during the past couple of weeks. It looks like you are in competition with Brent to see who gets finished first.
Chuck.....we are all glad your PT is still paying dividends. Slow and sure wins the race. Bet you can see quite a difference from 2 months ago. Hang in there, buddy.
Dennis......Grandparents Day? We need that here! I have to declare one.
Fife.....it sounds like a sail may be hoisted within a couple of weeks.
JimSP......hope the grandkids aren't driving you nuts!
Spanky......"But dear, playing with the kids and the trains IS quality time together. An the NYC you gave me shows them how much you love me."
DougM.....allergies, yuk! My wife and I have none but both our kids do. Wonder what is up with that. I figure it has to do with how much time we as kids spent outdoors relative to today's kids. During the summers we used to leave the house and, except for lunch, dinner, and bathtime, we were gone.
JimT......I must have missed something. Why is the Probe in the body shop?
Gotta run. Later gang.
Jack
IF IT WON'T COME LOOSE BY TAPPING ON IT, DON'T TRY TO FORCE IT. USE A BIGGER HAMMER.
Chief, nice engine! I should have bought a Virginian version of that from somebody. Hindsight is 20/20.
Small leak under washing machine when it empties. Probably a loose connection somewhere around the drain hose. At least I hope that's all. Washer in a super tight place and no room to work. I'm too fat now to get behind it. Also noticed drain spigot for hot water tank was dripping behind washer. Got a chair and a small step stool and walked over the washer to get at it. Turned tight and hope that did it. Hot water tank is fairly new so should not be rusted out or anthing like that.
Getting ready for expected rain here tomorrow and Thursday. We need it because everything is looking dry again even after all the rain we had this spring. It has been hot for a while but cooling down now.
Went to train meet last Saturday but was disappointed with low number of sellers. I like modern trains and did not see any to speak of. Over the years I have become more an operator and less a collector. Our resident layout man for the meets has not been able to come for the last couple of meets so we haven't had much to run except a loop on a few tables. The regular guy puts together a big floor layout on outdoor carpeting and runs DCS. When he's not there, I loose interest. Seems like private auctions have been turning up more exitement here than train meets for a while. I suppose E Bay and mail order have taken their toll over time. I have made a lot of friends over the years through train clubs however but now we are getting old and people are moving away or passing on. Sad but true.
At least all our friends on this forum are alive and kicking. Thanks for the comraderie guys.
Have a good Easter week all,
Ray
