Aloha. Cold and grey - looks like snow. Rats. Praying for your fam, Brutus. Congratulations, PapaD on Madison's joining our world. Jack is right - that's a shark in the photo - The Shedd was great. It is a classic looking building that looks like a museum should - inside and out - lots of exhibits and my fave is the reef in this big tank in the middle - Walked all the way there and back at lunch - the only person seemingly in all of Grant Park... Not sure what the day holds except chores.

LAZ..... Don't worry, I will need a lot of time. Especially on my left leg. But my goal is to walk out to the mail box and back. ( 340 feet one way ). And, someday, I will run for 5 miles.
Chuck
Hi Guyz.......just a quick check in to let Brutus know we are all thinking of his wife and hope he is able to juggle all of the balls till she comes home. A lot on his plate physically and emotionally. If I were there I could help out with Chewy and holding down the fort at home as I am sure many of us would. Although we would not be completing his home projects for him we would make sure his trains were not neglected and were exercised faithfully. Prayers continue.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....
It is a cloudy 34 degrees, Going up to 45 today, with cloudy skies. The snow has almost all melted.
Today is an easy day. I have a few things to do this morning and then, I will be in the train room, this afternoon. Love my therapy.
Next week, I start my physical therapy at the Treatment Center in town. I can drive there and they have a lot of equipment. I want to work out on the treadmill. Doctor says to take it slow.
Dining car has arrived and we are having the usual for breakfast.
Y'all have a great Saturday.
Morning guys. Waiting for first light as I have to burn some brush this morning. Also have to clear an area of the garage for the turkey fryer to be stored. Supposed to get up to about 60 today, but with plenty of rain. Also, because I am on call and after the emergencies yesterday, I have a couple of patients I need to do rounds on.
Brutus, glad things went well. Your bride and the family have been in my prayers. It was good that you caught the fish. They should have known better. Ask the nurse to verify that the allergy is on her chart. Sometimes, such information doesn't transfer from the initial notes to the rest of the chart. Still, you don't want to take chances.
Chief, all quiet down here....only Buckeyes we have are sold in Cracker Barrel. I have a good number of honey dos to tackle, so I had best get off the computer. May Y'all have a blessed day.Dennis

Good Evening All !
Some up coming concerns here this next week. Depending upon how accurate the weather forecasters are, we could be in for some really wet weather. Forecast...... Monday thru Friday, Rain, lots of it! Coming in via the "Pineapple Express", combined with "El Nino" affect.
- Coastal Areas (us) 10 to 12" of rain, waves as high as 17'
- Foothills Area (Ray) 18 to 20" of rain
- Snowfall down to 4,000 ft, as much as 3 to 4 feet of snow.
Their may be a lot of slippin an slidin as a result
Our rain gutters should be clear, just did that last month, will recheck though, make sure all the drainage areas are clear and free. Pump water level in the pool down 3 or 4" inches, than continuto monitor. (Have a submersible pump, and just leave it in the pool and turn on as necessy.)
I plan on taking a picture of the river channel behind us for comparison purposes.
Regarding the photo class
Jack your 100% correct, "Don can you fix this, or I have these old pictures, can you fix these..... goes on and on. As long as I can find the time its enjoyable, but much better when you are doin it just because it fun. ala the CTT Car Exchange program, Typically I will spen 4-8 hours just working on the images, then another hour or three working on the silly story.
Oletimer, If there are any tutorials available on-line, make sure you take advantage of them. Well worth the time, and enjoyable as well! My wife picked me up a copy of Photoshop Elements 8.0 for around $40. That program really has a lot of capabilities. That is what I primarily use for photo modification.
PapaDiesel, Congrats ! On the new Granddaughter!!!! Fantastic !!!!
Brutus, Glad first day went well. Prayers are with you all!! Keep in touch !!
Bob, I sure like the analogy of the tatoo, that would be so cool! And Realistic !!!!
Finally, Chris arrived home tonight ! His trip to the land of CheesHeads was successful! Everything went really great. He learned alot about the family history, Came in and said guess what I found out? I know what I am, Part German, Irish, Scott, Seminole Indian, Dutch, English, & Slovak. So, I guess that makes me a "Mutt". And he rally enjoyed all the snow.
Hope everyone has a great weekend, prayers for all those in need.
Take Care

8n - the blazers we have don't have a whole lot of clearance. The basecamp staff does a great job plowing w/ surplus military equipment, but it can take time, especially if there is more coming down, as with I am sure you are familiar. The blazers can be driven in over a foot of unplowed snow w/ chains (I even towed another in these conditions) and I've bucked 3' + drifts in one of the bigger trucks. When I went down to catch the train at Christmas, I was almost regretting not chaining up. The basecamp had plowed the dirt road, but ADOT was still making their way up. The six or seven mile stretch to where they were working is fairly flat thankfully, but was a little interesting. And you're right, those south of the MD must be thinking we are talking about old Mack trucks w/ chain drive

cheapclassicsGood afternoon all, Congrats, Papadiesel. Dennis W., forget the personal trainer, just kick the soccer ball with the kids. Much more fun. Interesting the lack of commentary here on the possible Lionel Marklin buyout. Of course not much to say until deal becomes final. Hmmm....if Chief is guarding the right flank and Dennis the left, who is watching Atlanta?? I have strategically placed a Yankee lass there to keep the door open for us....he, he, he. I hope everyone has a good day. Keep on training, Mike C. from Indiana

Mike Actually the Marklin buyout is just a ploy to gain foothold in the States! Been making plans with a few "Northerners" to quiet the Southern front!!!!!
Brutus All the best for you and your wife.

Ole Timer......This is a course in digital photography, right? I should take a class too because the last one I took was back in the old days of film and totally manual cameras.
You may want to check the course outline and requirements. If there is any work with your own camera, now is the time (before class starts) you want to read the instruction manual cover to cover and totally familiarize yourself with all of the features, icons, and drop down menus. That would include knowing how the camera adjusts the depth of field (f-stop) and shutter speeds on the automatic settings, and to what extent, in varying light. And you may want to see if your manual provides you with the f-stop and shutter speed ranges available in totally manual mode.
For example, I was having problems with freezing action shots on fully automatic action mode. Outdoors was no problem. But indoors was another matter where flash photography was not permitted.
Good Saturday Morning...
for Mrs Brutus and the family
Congas for (Grand)PapaDiesel!!!
Was in the 50's today and not that bad, partly/mostly sunny. Typical JERSEY weather and I'm likin' it.
Spent the day with Mom & Dad and my sister, took a nap at 3:30 unti 4:40, then off to dinner at 6 with my best friend & family (and my God-daughter and her little one). Got back here after 1100, checked the e-mails (company & private), then checking in here now.
Today (Saturday), need to look at my brother's minivan, maybe a short road trip to North Philly (my best friend is convincing me to get a Honda and trade the HD). The at 6:30 on to the Fire House for the installation (of the officers) and 175th anniversary dinner with the boys and their wives (mine is back home keeping the home fires lit). Sunday to the Somerset Greenburg Train Show and then who knows? Monday is the BIG DAY for the interview. Pray for opportunity and money. Tuesday to my Aunts house and open on Wednesday. Wed. night fly back South.
My boss said he may not need me when he took over my group, said before I left, he really needs me. We'll see. I made a believer outta him, so if the Jersey gig dosen't work, maybe there will be some added cash in my future? Only time will tell.....
On diet WILL NOT recommend is the food poisoning diet. Took off 15 lbs and still weighing in at 175 (from 190). But it's working....
Stay well, I'll check back sometime during the weekend.

Buckeye Riveter Dear Iowa Johnny, I looked out the window this morning and there was no snow on the ground and the sun was shinning. Obviously I knew I wasn't in Iowa. It was 78 degrees. I went outside and did not wear my stocking hat, fleece vest, flannel shirt, long sleeve t-shirt, snow pants, snow jacket, gloves and my artic pac boots. My car is not covered in salt brine and mud. I did not slip on three inches of ice in the parking lot. Have you ever seen a lake or a pond without the hard water cover? I knew I was not that good last year and I knew the Chief has connections to the man upstairs, but I don't believe I deserved to be sent to purgatory for my sins. Please come and rescue me ASAP.

Good night all. Went to movie with wifey. It was funny. Then to Mall shopping. Back home for a TV movie. Get to move all the Christmas tubs back under layout and outside stuff over storage shop in side of garage. Just came in from taking Lucy and Burg out. Did NOT have to wear a jacket.
Sleep tight all.

Coudy and high 30's again today.
Bob - you are talking about chaining up. Last week Wednesday, we got maybe 6" of snow here in mid Missourri. Thursday morning, I noticed a pick up with duals in the lot at the plant wearing chains. Thought it was a little excessive, but if he lived out of town, he might have needed them to get through the drifting snow. I wonder what the southerners hereabouts are making of this conversation.
Pappadiesel - congratulations.
Doug - is the giant squid model still hanging on the cieling at Sheds?
Getting things lined up to make some LED headlight conversions on a few locomotives. I'm in phase 2 - identify and order components.
Later, all.
BIG CONGA to PAPA D!!!! U DA GRAND DAD!!!!
Ran trains tonite for 2.5 hrs NO PILE UPs again YEA ME!!!! All ran great! Tomorrow going to CABELAs in HAMBURG,PA. Then to friends house in ELIZABETHTOWN,PA for TRAIN NERD party. My friend has a big bash every year and all the train nerds come and talk trains ,eat, drink, run trains, and have a great time. This is our first time so I will report tomorrow.
SF,
Cold and clear here on the mountain tonight, but the weather is coming. Supposed to have snow pretty much all week. I think we may get buried. Suggested to John that we chain up tomorrow or Sunday.
PapaD - congrats on the addition to the family!
Brutus - glad to hear things are finally underway. Thinking of the wife, you, and the family. I'll say a prayer on the local top of the world here.
Doug M. - cool aquarium!
Don - the tire pressure thing is just nuts. The guy who came up w/ that one has a tattoo on their ear that says inflate to 35 PSI...
John gave me a cool Weaver scope to mount on the 10/22. He fixes 'em up for a dealer. This was one that is functional but not completely cleanable. Has cool TV viewer optical view.
Time to switch observers again
Thank for the prayers guys - all is going as well as could be hoped for. They put in a pic line this morning, but it is high up under her arm and she doesn't like that at all. Finally got a room just before dinner time - they brought her fish (she's allergic). More tests and at last I had to go to get the kids from our friends who were minding them for us and get home to poor Chewy, who is clearly stressed out too. I'll read up on the pot tomorrow morning and see what all is up. Tardis was already gone when I got home so I trust all are having a good time
Oh - no internet in the room after all. I'll pick up an internet-anywhere type card tomorrow and get that working for her.
RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
RockIsland - Jack, I even tried relaxing my eyes and tilting my head and don't see no sharks either.

Buckeye--
Sorry about the crummy weather you are now experiencing, just doesn't seem right We still have plenty of "white diamonds" on the ground even though we have had that awful January thaw teasing us. I just can't imagine suffering through Tar Heel weather, depressing to say the least.
Dennis--before I retired I worked out faithfully at a great facility---best equipment available and I loved it. I also had access to a tremendous trainer once a month for 1 hour---FREE! It was one of the best things I have ever done for ME. A good trainer is worth his weight in gold for your success, GO FOR IT!
Fast forward 9 years--post retirement sadness. I stopped working out when I retired, STUPID is the only adjective I can think of. Gained WAY too much weight and at my last physical in Sept. our family DR. kicked my *** and I needed that wake up call. Joined the Y in Sept. and I'm happy to report I'm 30# lighter, my plan for May is to be another 30# lighter and I'll be at 1972 marriage weight, perfect! His exact words were "pick your poison, your choice", I do want to be around another 20 years (to be at our grand daughters wedding and to annoy the Chief). I work out 5 mornings a week for a minimum of one hour and have eliminated salt and sugar from my diet. It really is all about decisions and choices, I've made mine and I will stick with it, I'm not ready to hit the check out line yet!
I'm sitting in SE Iowa tonight in a motel (I hate motels) ready to judge jazz bands tomorrow for a state competition. At least this year the weather is acceptable---no bone chilling wind chills and no white death forecast. I do enjoy these contests, just dislike immensely the motel part of it, however the re numeration part of it helps to soothe the pain. This weekends work will pay for several nights next July for my journey to Glacier National Park on the bike
Enough rambling, time to look at Google maps and think about warmer days next July!
PS--I have given serious thought (while the boss is in the Scandinavian countries with her sisters) about making a 7-10 day trip east visiting CTT members in June making the turn around point Roseyville! Would make a good warm up road trip for July. It is on my bucket list.
Jon
So many roads, so little time.
PAPAD congrats
thanks all for the congrats on 4K I keep trying to catch the chief but that seems impossible in fact think hes getting further away so just proves he is a politician.

Fife.......Doug can correct me, but I think that particular tank he took the photo of at the Shedd Aquarium is the same one that houses some of the shark! How the other fish and tortoises don't become an appetizer is beyond me. Divers can be seen going in there and doing the feedings.
They rotate the whales and the dolphins at different times in and out of the main theater tank where you can watch the show or go down below and watch them through the windows. And the theater backdrop for the audience is Lake Michigan. The way they have edge of the main theater tank engineered and constructed, to the audience it looks like the tank is part of Lake Michigan!
Doug......with a White Castle so close to your house I would have thought you would look like something that should have Fugi or Goodyear emblazoned on the side. .
Jack.
Papa, Congratulations! Buckeye, be careful as you are not used to living in paradise. As for Atlanta, go for it....we have written that one off! become one crazy place.
Jack, I have individual runs from a bank of circuit breakers to about every 6 ft. I have mostly spade connectors attached to the underside of the track. I believe they are .110 connectors. If you are doing so, make sure you grip the male end with a set of angled needle nose pliers. then, use another set to push on the female side.
Well, it got crazy today with the cases. Emergency cases took over and now I have a couple of patients to baby-sit over the weekend. In the end, I missed the appointment with the trainer. Have to run as now it is time for son's violin lessons.
Dennis
Papa D what a great blessing! Doug hope they didnt make you leave your rod and reel outside.
Good Evening
Papa D-congrats, I hope all is well.
Oh the shame, Charlie caught me with my Gs showing. You can also see the new F3A and a 1950s B, notice the lighter gray on the new one. The lettering is also slightly larger. Not a complaint but a noticeable difference. Stayed cloudy all day at 35 but some snow did melt and it will help keep the temps from dropping too far tonite. I don't know if Brutus will make the Tardis run, who has the keys? Come on by and we can have some banilla...S.J.
Buckeye is on the "sauce" again .
Evenin' boys. Sunny & 55 here in the Mid-Atlantic region. The kind of weather that turns a young man's mind towards the sea. But unfortunately, wifey snaps me out of it with a living room remodeling project. Gone are the 30+ year old wood and faux brick panelling. Hello semi-gloss white walls with "Bubble" (really, that's the color) trim. Nephew-in-law has been doing most of the work.
