Mornin All.

Well still re-aranging furniture, maybe one of these years we'll eventually get to room #2. Banged Head

Good weather update from "Shake-n-Bake", heaven knows what would happen if we ever got a significant snowfall. Smile,Wink, & Grin

Did get to see the Charger game yesterday, Sad. Got to give the Jets their props though, to many mistakes will kill you all the time. However the biggest mistake was  made in the parking lot, after a tailgate party some idiot slid his B-B-Q under his car before heading into the game. You guessed it, three vehicles burned up in the ensuing fire. This guy needs a Jeff Foxworthy sign. Laugh

Jack, Don't forget, tomorrow is election day. Do it Chicago style, vote early & vote often.

Since today is a holiday we are having a fun run for the Kid's Club. I'm not helping this time, just to pooped.

A big Sign - Welcome to the newcomers !

Tardis runs are still smooth.  Don B., could your neighbor's weight gain be "due" in a few months?  If so, Patrick may be worried.

Keep on training,

 Good Morning -

Made it through the day yesterday, rain started about 2:30, so we actually got back early.  Checked things out, then had dinner.  (Roast Beef, Mashed Potatoes/gravy, Corn, Brocli, great meal).  Watched a dvd from Planet Earth, then ended up reclinerizing.

Ray, good luck with the sandbags, as I recall you have quite a bit of protection from all the neighboring homes, and development in your area.  Does the driveway drain toward the street or garage? Also, I would recommend you stay away from those instant grits for a couple of weeks, they will explode if they get wet.

Bob, Thanks for picture and explanation!  That is truly unbelievable!  15 micron accuracy!  That's about same a 1/3 the diameter of a human hair!  Unbelievable!

Buckey ... "suck it up"??  You just don't understand! A 1/4" of rain here is Headline stuff,  and anyway the news is on two subjects only for the past week.  (It is a plot so people arn't aware what the politicians are doing in the meantime.)  Subjects are Haiti, and Projected rain.  So far in 12 hours we have already seen the 1/4", (according to rain gauge on patio).

Laz, We did extract the squirell from the pool, what will be interesting is when the trash goes out we always have people come by between 2am and 6am searching in the cans for recyclables.  I couldn't resist, obviously, the squirell is biodegradable so it went into the recycling can.   Maybe it even provided a meal??

SJ, How did you get blackballed?  All you need to do is launch an effect campaign on the Chief.  And you know that is easy.  He always leaves himself so wide open.  I will do my best to lobby in your behalf.

Roy, Glad to hear the situation with your sister worked out so well !!  Now, really you just don't have a "regular" cell phone, do you??  Yours has to be supercharged with advanced communcation capability.  Probably, has its own micro dish.  Oh yeah, the transformers,  the LW was just laying under the layout waiting for something to be done with it.  This year we had two tracks around the tree, one for the PE, another for a Christmas hand car.  So I put a KW down to operate them.  It was fine independent speed control.  But needed the whistle button.  Didn't want all the extra wiring for a separate button, so next year will go back to the CW80, and a smaller one for the hand-car.

Jack, I'm getting a little concerned about you!  If your day is resolving around "watching a couple guys testing various toilets' ability to remain unclogged", I think you need more train time.

Navyjack, Hear you talking about that area around Poplar Grove sure is familiar to me, as I was born and raised in Rockford.  My son just got back from a trip there last week, visiting family.  He was happy just being in all the snow.  Glad you joined the forum.

I've only caught up on about two pages, but got to get ready for work.  Will get more later, I hope.  3 people coming in with printer problems this am, I volunteered to try and resolve.  Each one for a different reason.  They all caught me in a "compasionate moment". Banged Head

West Coast Submillimeter Telescope Weather Report: (1.18.10)   (Missed 1.17, due to weather).  Actually, rain came in a little earlier than projected, but not as dense.  Of course we had a increase in cloud cover before the water fall was initiated, and temps fell a bit too.  Overnight, the precipitation level was light but constant.  Accumulative total at this locale was 1/4" in approximately 12 hours and 36 minutes.

This morning the level is remaining somewhat similiar in density, however, the forecasters are projecting an increase to 1 to 3" per hour later in the day, and an increase in horizontal volume.  With the expected increase in air mass movements some forcasts are not projecting surf as high as 30' later in the week, primarily for west facing beaches.    (Fortunatly the beaches closest to this local all face south, hope we don't see a draining affect).  Also noticed that sun rise seems extremely subtle this morning,  very slow transgression from overnight darkness.

Aloha from a grey and lonely Chicago where I am seemingly the only one working. Ice fog yesterday and today was cool - everything covered with a rime like the inside of an old freezer but it's not icy - but sort of crunchy to touch - not slippery either. Walked through it at the train station - lotsa rainbows with all the ice crystals hanging in the air through the lights. Just like after a few Ol Mils.

Yesterday was quiet - watched bad football. a great movie, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, read the Sunday Trib (getting smaller and smaller) and ran a few trains. Going to search for my old HO 'sound machine' to add steam sounds when something is running.

Roy, prayers for your sister's continued recovery.

Jack, have you ever heard of Meadowdale International Racetrack - used to be just a few miles away from me in Carpentersville, IL Hosted SCCA races. Speaking of train races, I'd put a Marx 666 against anything. Good car key story. We have a little basket by the garage door - full of keys to former vehicles, former houses, neighbor's homes - in addition to the current keys.

Bob, I'm going to experiment with where / how I could model the Sublimeter scope.

I'm still looking for any ideas for a sort of diner sign.

Good Morning

Frosty 20s this morning.

I have a lost and found story too. A pair of grannys glasses. We could not find them. Ask the kids checked places we had eaten, Nope. Found them the following christmas in a box with the decorations. I told her if she wanted new glasses she could have just said so. No big day planned so could be a couch day. Eggs, potatoes and toast this morning, means no lunch. But we will eat supper early...One more week of winter off the calander, only about 15 more to go. Well it seems like it......S.J.

HI GUYZ,

Happy MLK DAY.  Off today for the holiday.  Going to patch up a few drafty areas along windows and doors.

Run, and workout then.

JACK, the car next to the OL MIL BIKINI car is a tank car I specially painted and decaled.  I'll get pic for next weeks SPF.

Stay frosty,

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a cold and damp 32 degrees. Going up to 38 today with no more rain. So they say,

Today is a busy day. I have to make a bunch of phone calls this morning. I have to set up a schedule for my out-patient physical therapy, at the local Center. Since I can drive short distances, they won't come to the house anymore. That's better this way. They have a lot of exercise equipment.

This afternoon, I will spend at least an hour in the train room. I still have a lot of scenery work to do. Cleaned the wheels of a tank car yesterday. They were nasty with black crud. I better clean the track pretty soon, too.

Dining car has arrived with the usual for breakfast.

I wonder how long Buckeye will be down South ?

Y'all have a great Monday.

Good Mornin, Ya'll, From Snowy Taxachusetts,

Woke up to heavy wet snow, and it is really coming down.  These are the storms that cause power outages because the snow sticks to the tree branches and power lines.  A mess out there, 5 inches on the ground so far which is nothing, forecast for 8-10 here and more West and North.  The driving conditions are considered "treacherous."  Wonder if the MLK holiday will negatively impact snow plow crew levels.

Brutus.......thanks for the update.  Get some sleep!  Family to the rescue, beautiful.  Movie with Grandpa and the kids later today?  Good idea....life as close to normal as can be possible for the kids.  Char needs to hear that her fort will be held down by the troops while she completes her mission.  Prayers for strength, brother.

Jon.......Private Scalawag Jack reporting.  We may have to muster our Special Forces extraction unit to rescue Buckeye.  Team menbers are ready.  The borders are heavily guarded, so we may have to go in by air.  Maintenace is mounting the new Tardis cloaking device.

RaySP......do you ever worry about flooding so much you take your trains to higher ground?

NavyJack.......your wife called Pat a ######## devil, but I think you got the adjective she used wrong or she needs to visit her optometrist..  We'll help out and come up with a few more approptiate ones for her.  When you compliment a Suthener, remember one thing.  They become even more insufferable than normal, if that's possible.  Wink

Banks......thanks for the link on the toy train races.  That would be a good topic to start on the CTT Forum.  For all out straight line speed and solid cornering, I'll put my foot in with my Rock Island FAs.  Not too light but not too heavy......single motor.  Relative low center of gravity, and the magnetraction is still solid.

Laz......was the Nerd Train Party BYOT (Bring Your Own Train)?  Any pileups?

Roy.....We got 17 years of HEAVY use on our last Kenmore and so we went out and got another, a large capacity front loader with a selectible speed spin cycle, up to 1500 rpm   Reduces drying cycle time considerably.

MikeC......loved the car keys story.  I'm somewhat anal about this, requesting everyone leave their car keys on our entertainment center so there are no lost sets of keys, frustrated searches, in case someone needs my car, or we have to move a car.  So as you might expect, my keys came up missing.  Had to use extra set.  Wife took great pleasure in pointing out how I violated my own dictum and would lose my head if it were not attached.  For two weeks I searched everywhere, no dice.  I was stumped because I knew the keys had to be in the house since my car was in the driveway.  The following Saturday we were leaving for New Hampshire and I was asked by the Queen to go warm up my carriage, so I did.  Went back into the house and did what all husbands do.....wait another 15 minutes.  Wife is finally ready to go and puts on her coat.  What do you think she pulled out of her coat pocket.  MY CAR KEYS.  Spousal payback is a pleasurable activity.  Wink

Re Blackhawk Farms race track out there in South Beloit IL, that place opened about 10 years after Road America in Elkhart Lake Wisconsin.  So we had two road courses holding all forms of car racing within 2-3 hours of my house in Chicago.  Blackhawk is a 2 mile roadcourse.  Went belly up in the early 70s I believe but was still used for privateers' practice.  Later back in business.  A buddy of mine ran IMSA, quite competitive.  His car was always fast enough and he had the driving skills to go with it. But the difference always seemed to come down to deep pockets.  So navyjack, if you can, that may be of interest to you since you are a short distance from Blackhawk Farms.

Laz...... my wife came in last night and sat down next to me while I was on SPF and had one of your shots blown up, the one of the Old Mil Swedish Bikini Team car.  So she made some teasing comment about my prurient interests.  So I told her "Your looking at the wrong car, dear.  I'm interested in the car next to it, the one partially cut off in the picture."  So she looks closely and then "gets it."  It was your flat car carrying an actual can of Old Mill.  Big Smile

OleTimer......2700 DVDs of possible billboard material for the layout?  WOW!  How long do you think that will take Pat to go through?  Maybe he can split them up and get some of his cows to help out.  Then again they might eat them.

Underworld.......looking out my window right now, a snowless place is sounding pretty good.  Where are you planning to go?  So many choices, so little time.

Gotta go shovel out the drive and get gas for my wife's car.  She remembered at bedtime last night her tank is on dead empty, again.  She had gone shopping earlier in the day and had to pass about 10 gas stations.  Did she stop?  NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.  Banged Head

Later, gang.

Jack

Morning all, quick stop before heading in.  Not much in the way of cases, but do have some rounds to make and some paperwork to catch up on.  I may try to get to the gym today.  Have plenty to get to with doing progress reports and evaluations to make sure everything is in line.  Credentialing organization is coming by to inspect the hospital either this week or next.  I suspect it will be next with the holiday.  We should be fine, but we don't want to give any red flags for them.

Bob, not sure that they did mention his name.  They did go to the Arizona State lab with one of the samples.  They found some rare gems that were not fractured.  I couldn't pay too much attention as my son and daughter were asking all kinds of questions.  It certainly sparked their interest.  The show will be scheduled for Wed. nights on the Science channel.

Well, prayers have been said and bible read.  Time to head out on the great adventure.  Hope y'all have a good one.

NavyJack - as I recall the Grayback was a non-nuke Regulas cruise missle sub, at least that's the way she started out anyway. If you worked w/ the Seabees, I imagine you spent time in Port Who-needs-me or Gulfport, or maybe both. As you know the Seabees are an unusual group. "We build, we fight, we party all night!"

Roy - I think you said you'd be in Mesa for a business trip in the near future. Be sure to check out Roy's Train World if you have the time.

Nothin' serious yet on the weather front, but it's coming. Wouldn't be surprised if I had to close down for frost before my shift ends.

Well, I reclinerized - time for bed.  Was watching War, Inc. on the dvr.  Not anywhere in the same ballpark as Grosse Pointe Blank.  There is some wicked satire here, but it's way out there in looney land too often.

Roy - prayers for your family and glad you could be there for your sister man.

Thanks for the prayers guys - prayers all around for our loved ones and friends.

Nice dinner tonight with my folks and came home with dinners for 2 or 3 days I think.  No contraband, Dennis - the cookies were okayed by medical authorities for that day.  She will be neutropenic soon, however.  Her sister and Dad are coming in to St. Louis tomorrow morning now as her treatments start in the afternoon.  Hope to meet them for dinner tomorrow or the next day.

Going to take the kids and my Dad to see the new Holmes movie tomorrow, if we can swing it.

I'll be back on the Tardis tomorrow night, I think - you guys on this forum are the best.

Pat ... just heard of your post of going to the show ... Had to be told by RT on the tardis you posted it ... man I'm way behind on reading the coffee pot . As soon as we find out which days my son is off to drive down with me I'll let you know for sure . Would really enjoy meeting you . If you are or will be doing any signs or printing I'll bring along a dvd with over 2,700 of them and give it to you for you to choose from when you get em home . It has vintage  signs - movie posters - traincar logos - billboard logos - and alot of stuff . Thumbs Up

All of them can be scaled and printed for O guage layouts and cars . If you'd like to see how one fellow did with some check this link out ... fantastic work ... can be done in o guage . He even details in the pics how he afixed/mounted them to the buildings and etc. you'll see what can be done with a printer .... sticker paper and a bit of imagination .... the  dvd I'll be giving you has even cooler designs to incorporate for them .

http://magnoliaroute.com/magnolia%20route.htm

Great night on the tardis/chat with Brutus - SJ - and caught RT on one of his very few nights he could stay up late and chat . Fabulous bunch of guys to say the least .

Almost sunny and about 40 here today.

Purchasing new washer/dryers seems to be the activity of choice this weekend - we helped the economy along by purchasing a new pair Saturday.  Of course this prompted moving the old one out of the way, getting ready for delivery, which, in turn, prompted a major clean up and reorganization of the laundry room in the basement.

Brutus - our thoughts are with you and your family.

Navyjack - welcome.

For what its worth, the headlight diameter on a Williams GP9 body shell is .128".  That means a 3mm LED will be the size of choice for my conversion.

About all for now.

wow i like your e-7.  is it williams?  i am in the process of getting an acl e-7 aa.  do they run as good as they look?Smile

Overcast and cold here on the mountain, but still collecting photons for now. Talked again to the guy w/ the corvair tranny and he is willing to sell the trans, axle, and fairly new clutch for a great price and even bring it over in his Greenbrier. Next weekend I should be up to my elbows in grease and air cooled engine parts. Can't wait.

Don - just went thru the forecast discussion and the satellite maps. Looks like you will be getting the brunt of it tonight and tomorrow morning w/ it hitting us later tomorrow. Some pretty good radar hits off Santa Barbara right now. You and Ray should be ready to man the pumps. Bigger system supposedly hits Thurs/Fri.

Roy - glad things worked out for your sister and great that you were able to be there for her. I had an incident like that this summer, and while I had no family in town, the support from friends and co-workers was vital.

Doug and Fife - I like the idea of a model SMT. I guess an O-gauge version of this thing wouldn't be too big, and if was near the backdrop you could make it smaller for effect. Lemme know if you want dimensions! I'll be lucky to have a tunnel of my first layout, so you guys are going to have to take point on this one. Plus, in true Lionel operating fashion you could make it rotateSmile

Laz - I believe Michael Biehn used the phrase "stay frosty" in Aliens as well.

NavyJack - you were in during some interesting times for a CT. Was this close to going nuc on a sub in the '80s, how I got to be a Seabee in the reserves is another story.

Brutus - just read that there is a Y6 in a museum in St. Louis. As always, thoughts and prayers are w/ you and the family.

Dennis - sounds like an interesting show. Yes, those rocks can get expensive. Should be plenty at the upcoming Tucson Gem and Mineral Show. Did they mention Bobby Haag? An interesting character who used to join us on our geology club trips.

If you haven't checked out the SPF, Kooljock has an awesome photo of his Pennsy steamers.

Have a good week!

Bob

hello bob, the only sub i was ever on was the grayback.  i was a naughty boy and i married one of those little brown skinned girls(40 years ago) and was given a choice to be a cook, yn, or sk, so i picked yn and worked with reserve seabees after that.  still married to that fine christian woman and raised three sons.  now she looks 35 and i look my age(62).  we have the best coffee in the boondocs also

Good evening all,

It is a cloudy and mild day in SE Indiana with temps in the 40s.  Finished another LEGO project last night.  Still working on getting the 10E to go thru an original Lionel switch.  Not having much luck.  318E goes thru ok, but have a problem with reverse.  Same with 8E.  The 10E is the only one of the three that smoothly cycles thru.  Hmmmmmm.... The "saucy wench" thought she lost the car keys.  Turns out I had them in my coat pocket.  Was hoping for a nothing day tomorrow on day off, but have to go to a funeral for sister's father-in-law.  Garrision Keillor had a good saying for that.

Navyjack, is your town close to Roscoe, IL, home of the "Princess" (Danica).  I used to run in sports car races at a place near South Beloit, IL called Blackhawk Farms.  Flipped a Pinto there once.

"Scalawag".  At least I am in good company.

Tardis runs are still smooth.  Don B., could your neighbor's weight gain be "due" in a few months?  If so, Patrick may be worried.

Prayers going out to those who need them.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

hello mike, roscoe is about 20 miles northwest of where we are.  if you go down to 173 and then come east about six miles that is where we are located.  the best way i can describe this place, since we are within view of the lake is the poor mans lake geneva.  with much worse weather.  better coffee though.  my wife is trying to get me off coffee and onto tea(not easy for an old anchor clanker.)

Good evening y'all!  It was a good day.  Had to go in and make rounds early this morning, then to church and lunch with family.  Home to entertain kids, but I did get some scenery done on the layout.  Back to church and while I was working camera1, the pager goes off for Surgical ICU.  I locked the camera down and was able to talk the nurse through the situation on the phone and return to the camera.  No further problems.  The guest speaker at church gave some great sermons on prayer, and we come to find out tonight that his wife's cancer is back and so they will operate on Thursday.

Bob, thought about you tonight as we watched a DVR(ed) show of Meteorite Men, a new program on the Science channel.  Didn't realize there is so much money involved in space rocks!  Kind of neat and the children enjoyed watching it with me.

Roy, glad things are going well with your sister.  We will pray for her to have a full recovery.  Have worked with some fine MDs that did some fellowship at MD Anderson.  Also, one of my good friends did his anesthesia fellowship at Texas Heart there.

Brutus, good news on your bride.  Will continue to pray for her and the rest of the family.  While it may be tempting to sneak a little contraband in, don't do it.  She is really susceptible to infections.  We face this with family members meaning to do good for the ill, but risk making things much worse.

DonB., might want to suggest to your neighbor that she use a bigger pole....then again, maybe you'd be better off letting that one go.

Laz, some ammo has been tough to come by.  Also, reloading supplies can be tough to find.  I had purchased a large quantity of supplies when a sporting arms dealer went out of business.  Have lots of powder, primers, and projectiles.  My only 308 is a Model 70 from 1954.  It is a Featherweight and has original Howe scope mount with Leupold scope on it.  I took a Corsican Ram in Texas a few years ago with it, as well as a Saskatchewan buck...good rifle, good round.

Well, rest of family is in bed and I have an early morning.  Hope everyone has a blessed week ahead.
God Bless,
Dennis

The Railking Blue Comet is one of my favorites. Like Ole Timer I prefer the steamers. Did you get my email?

Pat

I will email you and you can reply to it with your address.

I suspect your wife's comment will generate comments from the guys here. That's OK. I can use there stuff to fertilize the "back Forty". Whistling
