LAZ - washer was over 10 yr old and some parts had busted (wig-wag solenoid broke today - for those of you who know what that is then we are in a group that knows more about washing machines than we should) so we decided to just buy a new one. Had good luck with Kenmores so we got another one.
Regards, Roy
ROY, our washer went down 2 weeks ago. The water leveler went out. Called Maytag repair man and had it fixed total was 68 buckeroos. Not to bad.
BANKS, TRAIN NERD PARTY is that a friend of ours who works at BARRYs TRAIN SHOP, has a party every year on the third saturday in January. All his customers come and have a great time shooting the BULL and eating. We talk mostly trains. I talked with JERRY the train fixer guy at BARRYs for quite some time. MIKE, who's house we are at also takes us into the layout and runs trains. All is fun time and the time just flies. Spent 3 hours there then had to take off to take care of our dog.

Hello all,Brutus continued prayersCongratulations, PapaDDennis- Ethanol is hard on an engine.Welcome Navyjack!Laz-What’s a train nerd party?SPMan- that sucks! How did they steal them?Roy- Prayers your sister will have a speedy recovery. Not much happening here. The cold snap broke yesterday. Raining a lot today. Not much snow left. Son and I hauled manure yesterday. The roadkill is still in the garage. I checked it yesterday it was beginning to thaw. When it does we’ll get it cut and frozen. Took the grandkids to the train races last Saturday. Here’s an article from last year http://www.altoonamirror.com/page/content.detail/id/503359.htmlI remember going as a kid myself and enjoying it. I took my son once or twice about 20 years ago. He enjoyed it. Then the date started to conflict with our annual trip to the PA Farm Show in Harrisburg. My grandkids weren’t impressed. I’m going to start a new thread with more info.
Prayers for all wo may need them

hello jack, poplar grove, illinois is located about eight miles east of rockford, and eight miles south of clinton wisconsin. right in the middle of the state line. we are about 50 miles away from elgin. we get wisconsins weather here, there is a lake here, and that makes the weather worse also.
Good morning all,
Roy, glad to hear that your sister is doing alright. That was a nerve racking story. Prayers for speedy recovery.
Still braced for the big rain but today is beautiful and sunny. Makes me wonder what those weather guys are up to. It would not upset me if they were wrong.
Chief, are instant grits any good? I saw some Quaker instant grits at the market yesterday. I think they were cheaper than the regular grits which you have to cook for a long time and they came in a big box. Looked like too much for me. Might go bad before I could use it all. Had a politicallly incorrect breakfast yesterday with grits, eggs and a pork chop but it was gooooood? Back to the straight and narrow today with oat meal and a banana.
Now it's time to run some trains.
Later, Ray

C'Boys really stinking it up at Minn Vi-Queens. Must be some other guys showed up mascarading as the C'Boys?
Jack - the daughter helping drive was great. I am getting too old for all night forays
LAZ - can't believe that the beef jerky didn't fix things up with the Sig Other.
To add to our grief - the washing machine just "threw a rod." Off to Sears after the game!
Buckeye RiveterIowa Jonny.......Please send me money to get me back home. Yesterday I ventured out and walked along the beach and saw scantily clad women on the white sand with a clear blue sky, a blazing sun and a gentle breeze. I just can't take in anymore. I beg you!!!! (BTW, I did get a BUBBA GUMP shirt to wear while fishing.)
Buckeye--I just added $1,000.00 to your PayPal account, get out of there NOW! Sadly, those dreaded southern sun rays and temps have affected your decision making abilities, just let me know if you need more $$$.
Vikes are looking good against the Cowgirls

So many roads, so little time.
Home from the trains show. Very well attended. Big HS with two large parking lots full. We had to park in a church lot and then walk back to the school. Shuttle service was offered from a farther location but I never saw the shuttle. Heaps of O and HO some were offering deals others were asking way more than I would pay. Oh I spent three dollars plus admission...S.J.

Jim.....thanks for the update. Prayers and good thoughts continue for Char. BTW, please save your strength. With your plate so full, I feel guilty and undeserving of your taking the time for these updates.
Four inches of snow forecast.
navyjack.......is your Poplar Grove near Rockford or South of Rock Island? I'm originally from Chicago, in laws live in Elgin.
Don......thanks for the update on your neighbor. With that weight gain it sounds like she needs your help as her personal trainer getting back in shape. Make sure you take pictures of the workouts so she can garner some encouragement and motivation from the before, during, and after pics.
Buckeye......one of your posts listed all of the clothes you weren't wearing when you went out. Is Snohio a clothes optional state?
Fife......I was rooting for Baltimore. I'm bummed two weeks in a row.
Roy......scary turn of events. Prayers for your sister's speedy recovery. It is great to see folks outside the family jump in to help. Better yet, to have a daughter drop what she is doing and carry the ball. Made you proud.
OK......we've got carpetbagger, scalawag, bad, mean, downright mean, unforgiven, ok. I need the rank order so I know who I salute and who is supposed to salute me. Some help here, Chief.
I'm watching a couple guys testing various toilets' ability to remain unclogged. Don't see any of the real world stuff my granddaughter "accidentally" tries to flush. A clear glass angel with gold metal wings attached to a suction cup and a metal hook, plastic animals, doll clothing, a half roll of "bathroom tissue.....what do these guys know?
Gotta go get gas for the snowblower. Later, gang.
IF IT WON'T COME LOOSE BY TAPPING ON IT, DON'T TRY TO FORCE IT. USE A BIGGER HAMMER.

Stay frosty,
NAVYJACK,
Term STAY FROSTY, came out of the HBO series Generation Kill. It was a show diplicting the Iraq War. One part was entitled STAY FROSTY, where it was about the horors of the war but at end their SGT. treated the men with warm milk shakes. It was good and funny if you saw this episode. That's why I use the term, along with my own interpertation of BE COOL. But STAY FROSTY sounds better. Sometimes I'll just use the letters SF.
Brutus - great to hear your wife is moving along. Our prayers are with your family for her speedy recovery.
Navyjack - Welcome!
Don B - You use an LW in your Christmas decorations? That is hard core toy training!
I have a business trip next week to Mesa AZ. Gonna be 70's here and there!
Morning all!
Had a rough week this past week but it all came out OK. Got a call from my sister at 10:30 pm Tues night telling me she was getting ready to be transported via ambulance for emerg surgery, that her husband had left earlier in the day for a business trip to Moscow, and that she just "wanted to let me know" and if I would call our brother and let him know. My wife, daughter, and I talked and then the daughter and I packed, jumped in the car, bought gas, and hit the road to Houston starting at midnight. Daughter drove 3/4 of the way and I drove the rest since she does not know Houston (where I was born and raised) or the Houston Medical Center, which is HUGE now. I had told my sister that if they could keep her stable they would not operate until first thing in the morning when they have full staff. We made it to her hospital room at 4:30 am and she was scheduled for surgery at 5:30 am. With luck her husband landed in Moscow at 3:30 am (our time) and made it through customs by 4:30 am. My cell phone worked great for calling and text messaging him so I was able to keep him informed through the pre-op, operation, and post-op procedures and doc/nurse discussions. Had we lost touch with him I would have been able to make decisions for my sister in her husbands absence. The hospital was great in dealing with all this. She was out of surgery by 7:30 am and all was well - heck she was walking later that day. Daughter and I were able to stay at my sisters house and catch a few "z's" that afternoon and then we went back to the hospital. My sister has great friends and all were offering help (one is an RN at a neighboring hospital) and another that lives across the street came over and spent the following night with my sister so daughter and I could drive back to Dallas. So all is well and she is recovering. Her husband was able to avoid a very expensive emergency return ticket and continue his trip in Russia and on to China. It is an amazing world we live in for a guy who grew up in a house where one counted the rings on the phone to know if the call was for our house and the weekly call to grandmother in Akron was set up in advance with a long distance operator who coordinated with other LD operators who all connected the call at the agreed time.

hello doug and guys. the first time i met a guy from the south was when i went overseas in the navy. he had gotten his first pair of boots from the navy, but he would have give me the shirt off his back. his wife was real nice too and nice to us. my wife used to watch their baby. like so many other nice people we lost track of them. i was in from 1966-1982. i had about a year of broken service. had a family and was screwed in the head, could not get a job so i went back in. i was a ct, later forced to change to yn and retired as yn1. (no upward mobility) at the time. i love the acl and the virginian, am god-fearing and have had my first cup of (arabica bean) strong coffee this morning. i guess the arabica bean coffee apeals to me because of my german descent. the krauts trade a lot with turkey, like we do with columbia. bob your trains are cool. it is nice how you can have them displayed. i have mine thrown in boxes in closets. see i cant walk, and only get to see my trains when i get them. my wife is sympathetic, but she is taking up my slack, and does not have time to help me with the trains. i cant walk, and cant close my right hand. bogus huh? anyway, i am glad to see pictures of how you have your trains displayed. is that a pre-china lionel gp-7 that you have? i have an acl gp-7 with railsounds, that i have never heard. it is still the pre-high detail u.s. made style. thanks jack
Aloha all. Weird weather here - grey, seems warmer but everything covered in a sort of frost - looks like an ice storm but it's not slippery. Off to church in a few. I look forward to visiting Navyjack someday - he lives west of CL - I owe him a catch-up phone call too! Wow, what a great idea, I need to put a sublimitter scope on the top of Eagles Ridge on the layout. Gotta keep that photo. Good news about Mrs. Brutus settling in. Looking forward to some football later today.

Good Morning all
Welcome NavyJack!
Jim F – I will have you wife in my mind during the intentions during services today.
Yesterday was busy. Had an Eye Drs appointment, and will need new glasses. Eyes actually getting better, at a distance. Doc said happens as you get older. Then went to with the truck Cincinnati with grandson to get youngest daughter and new bed. All worked out well. As we were carrying out the old set one of her neighbors wanted it so I did not have to bring it home.
Got to go
May God bless
Jim
Good Morning from Blueberryhill....
It is a dark and gloomy 32 degrees. Going up to 40 with rain, later.
Today, I will be watching some NFL playoff games and having my therapy in the train room. It's a rough job, but someone has to do it.
NavyJack...Welcome to the Forum.
Buckeye is on "Spring Break" for Engineers.
Grits will make you ugly.
Dining car has arrived with steak and eggs. I'm having Cheerios. LOL
Y'all have a great Sunday.
Chuck
Mornin' boys. Had to slip on my hip-waders before coming to the Coffee Pot this AM . Chance of rain and 38 here in the Mid-Atlantic region. Living room all painted, now need to get crackin' on the trim. Took a breather yesterday, and the boy and I had a table at a local antique/toy show. An adjoining vendor gave me a nice compliment, saying that Chris really handles himself well with customers.
Welllllll, that other ravens team showed up last night. Too many dropped passes, too many untimely penalties, two many fumbles ended the season of inconsistency. That leaves us 28 dats 'til DAYTONA! Speaking of 28, read a good interview with Robert Yates this morning.
submmbob - Cool pic. With some spare STAR WARS models, could probably kitbash a neet little scene like that on a mountain side.
