Back at the 'scope and it's a madhouse up here. 2 engineers and 2 programmers. It looks like a used car lot out front. Will be somewhat back to normal by Friday.

Brutus - thoughts and prayers for your wife, you, and the family

Banks - sorry to hear about your son's job, but a least there is a backup plan for the time being

Jim T. - that sure was a lot of smoke! Great video!

Dennis - hope you had a good birthday!

Doug M. - thanks for looking into the info and did the book arrive ok?

Got to make a call before it gets too late. Hope everyone is having a good week.

Good night all.  Got a early prayer breakfast at neighboring Mayor's Church.  Then a meeting with Wake Co School immediately following.

Banks, good luck and prayers for the son.

Underworld, maybe more will melt.

Chuck, going up and down those steps to the train room will be good exercise for legs and heart.  Just don't over do it at first.

BTW: Direct TV just lost a customer and Dish Network gained one.  Hope I never have to talk to a Direct TV person again [except to say. "I quit and stop your lousy service."]  They blew the install yesterday.  Too long to go into.  Phone calls and promises and nothing happening.  I have had nothing but rude reps to talk too except the one the other night.  She was the reason I was staying.  This this mess yesterday and today.  Still not resolved [so they think].  Talked to the nicest folks at Dish.  No install and half price service for a year.  DVR free and only one box covers two TV's.  Yes, and both have free HD and DVR from one box.  Get more channels too.

Sleep tight.

Thanks guys for prayers and good advice and info.

Rich - remember, sequence is key.  Interview first, then belly bombers Smile

Back to work today and tomorrow, then off for 4 days as wife goes in the hospital.  They now say I can be with her while she is getting her transplant through her port, so I'll try and arrange to do that.

Kids plugged up the stack today - water came up in shower and tubs etc - ick.  Had to take kids to school and go to work today (missed all day yesterday), so we called in rotorooter.  I only have a 5 foot snake anyway.  Man - big $$$!  Need a longer snake!

Tardis is finally ready so let's get going!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Sunny and high 30's today.  Lost about 3" of snow in the past 24 hours.  Supposed to be in the 30's and 40's the rest of the week.

Brutus - you don't happen to have a house trap in your sewer line do you?  For the first several years I was here, we were calling Roto-Rooter about twice a year.  They thought I might have a broken tile, because about 20' out, the cutter would snag on something.  On one call, they ran their TV camera down the pipe and discovered the house trap.  We found the clean out port and used it.  8 months later, the trap had filled up again.  I bought a 10' piece of conduit, cut about a foot and a half off the end of my snake, connected it on the end of the conduit.  Now I've got a poking stick with a flexible end to go through the trap to clean it out.  No more calls to Roto-Rooter.

Opened up my 666 last night.  Found a failed solder joint on the smoke unit, failed solder joint on the headlight, and a failed solder joint on one of the e-unit connections.  Got everything soldered back up tonight.  On the test run of the motor, found that I had fixed the smoker, but the e-unit was stuck in forward.  Disassembled (again) down to the e-unit, cleaned the innards, replaced some wiring, and next test run of the motor had the smoker and the e-unit working.  Finished assembling, but no test run, as ma was sleeping in the bedroom under the layout.  I'll find out tomorrow if the headlight works.  I now know how to take a 666 down to components.  Something I learned the hard way tonight was that the drivers cannot be assembled with the side rods 90 degrees like a real locomotive.  If you do, they will bind up the smoke unit.

All for now.

Brutus,

Prayers for you and your wife.  We have a woman in our congregation who went through this, and two years later she's feeling great, and back teaching High School!

By the way: 25' pipe snakes are $22 at Lowes.  I had to get one myself last week!

Brutus......you have my continued prayers for your wife and for your family.

We still are not totally out of the cold snap here.  Tuesday night bottomed out at 11 and we hit a high of 28 yesterday.  It was 12 overnight, but the temps have already hit 20 and are forecast to hit freezing today, 40 tomorrow.  Seem to be getting help from you guys points West.

I got my heating oil tank filled December 20 and have not glanced at the gauge to see what the damage has been since then.  But a buddy of mine called yesterday to tell me he called his heating oil company for a price check.  His company's prices have jumped $.30 per gallon in just the past 3 weeks and are expected to continue to rise into the Spring due to the increased demand caused by the frigid temperatures throughout the country.  I may get my tank topped off to mitigate the rising prices.  Gasoline prices here are following suit.

Chuck.....you do have a beer fridge in your train room, don't you?  Glad to hear your Doc check went well and trains are in your forecast.

Time for a coffee refill.  Hope everyone has a good day.

Aloha all from a balmy Crystal Lake where it is already up to 32 degrees - whew!  Buckeye, it is 60 in Ft. Lauderdale, going up to 72 today;  Looks like 76-79 this weekend but rain too. Prayers for your bride,  Brutus, and for Rich's interview.

Bob, the book on small gas engines arrived just in time. My son loves it! What a great gift - just in time for his motor class starts Monday.

Looks like we may get some melt today. Hope I can get into the train room later.

Morning all.  Chuck, glad to hear you doing well.  Just keep doing what you are told.  Also, trains are good therapy.  Brutus, Will be lifting you and your bride and the rest of your family in prayers.  Going to be a time of many changes for awhile....just think about the end game.

Been watching "Band Of Brothers", up until this morning, the most impacting episode for me was when Buck Compton suffered PTS.  This morning, I watched "Why We Fight".  It was the first encounter for the troops with a concentration camp....upsetting to say the least.

We have seen quite an upswing in the posts and topics lately.  I like it!  Lots of good information being shared.
Chief, I have been to more than a few prayer breakfasts.  The mindset that brings us to them is great as it prepares each man for the next level.  Hope you have a great time.

God Bless,
Dennis

BTW: Direct TV just lost a customer and Dish Network gained one

I don't have either of those (just cable) but I identify with the nightmare trouble you had with installers.  Mine was between AT&T and Verizon trying to combine TV, internet and telephone.  Verizon killed one of my phone lines and it took me three weeks to get it back.

Morning all, not much action here today but nice weather.  They are predicting big time rains though starting Sunday night for several days.  I'm afraid the burned areas will get slides this time.  Prediction is for up to 10 inches of rain over three days for the footlhills where I live.  Fortunately we don't have any burned area above us.

Will try to run some trains today before the weather gets bad for going out to the garage.

Later, Ray

Maybe I can rent Band of Brothers. Always wanted to see it. Ambrose's book was powerful.  Score, Sir J!  Great pick-up of those MILW diesels.  Son finished with finals. He passed math - thank you God!  You've all made me hungry and White Castle is just 5 minutes away. I'm going to rent some sliders on your behalfs. Wink. On a more serious note, looks like we're sending a team to Haiti.

Whitecastles, boo-hoo-hoo, we can only get the frozen variety out here, yuck. That is unless I can sweettalk family members venturing out this way to pick-up a couple dozen on their way to the airport. Dinner They do have to pack them up in a cooler for the trip so as not to drive the other passengers crazy in the plane. Blush

Don/Ray Have you guys been getting the big surf up your way along the coast. Tuesday they closed all the piers down this way when the breakers were hitting the bottoms of the walkways with the surf anticipated to get much higher yet.

SWMBO has been keeping me busy this week, rearange furniture, again, again, again, ................................. Maybe we can start on a second room this weekend. Thankfully tomorrow is museum day, a chance to rest. Whistling

Any of you guys have one of the MTH smoking tank cars? Any feedback on them? If it doesn't go nuts pricewise on EvilBay I think I'll pick it up. Coffee tank.

Rt, Congratulations on your passing 4K.  I am not too far behind you.  Doug, congratulations on your son.  Hope his academic success continues.
Ah, White Castle murder burgers, we have Krystal's down here, not exactly the same, but close.  When I was in NJ, one of our friends was acquitted and we went and ordered 300 to go.  It was a party to remember!

Well, I have to get to complete violin lessons with the daughter.  Already did so with son, but daughter was at ballet.
Good night,

Wife is packing and getting ready for tomorrow morning.  Thanks for all the prayers guys.  We're excited and scared, but mostly ready.

Prayers for all in need and our loved ones and friends, and especially for those poor souls in Haiti.

Tardis is gonna be late tonight and probably no fly tomorrow night unless I can get Mike or Pat to do the honors again - I think it is your turns next?

PS - Lion came today with add-on cars.  I hope to get a chance to run it this weekend.

PPS - Congrats RT!
