Back down the hill. Almost too warm outside for a jacket. Sorry for those back east.

Fife and Buckeye - you guys are cracking me up.

Anj - you should read about John Worden, captain of the USS Monitor. He was held by the Rebs after going to see about the relief of Fort Pickens. May feel familiar!

Ray and SJ - belated thoughts and prayers for your recent losses

Dennis - sorry to hear about your friends mom. Must be tough after recent events.

Going to be a real madhouse when I go back to work on Wed. 2 engineers and 2 computer programmers running around the scope (one whom is my boss). God protect the 'scope. We will be utilizing all 7 vehicles which go to the mountain that day. A veritable used car lot up there.

Hoping to get some more track and switches down on the floor today and test out my first layout plan. New trolley should be on the way.

Happy Birthday Dennis!

Has anyone ever been to The World's Greatest Train Show?

http://www.wghshow.com/

It will be back in the area in a couple weeks and I'm thinking of going... is it worth it? I would have to drive 1.5 hours to attend...

You must be going to the show at Dulles Expo. I go to it every year and actually like it better than the Greenberg show.

Good afternoon everyone.  Thanks for all the kind thoughts.  Regarding my age, I am old enough to know better and young enough not to care...Just kidding.  But I still won't tell.  An early day, came home to a little alone time with bride and then went to pick up our daughter.  Afterwards, went to Firehouse Subs for a tasty lunch.  (Speaking of Firehouse...what's with the Hoseboy comment?  Actually, I don't mind it)  I may have left the Fire Department, but it is still a big part of my life.  Many good friendships developed there.  After lunch, we went to Hobby Lobby to get some foam core board so I can make a coal tipple.  While there, I checked the clearance area and they had several Lionel rolling stock pieces on clearance ($20.00).  I picked up a two domed tank car and a flatcar with stakes.

After we picked up son from school, came home to have the kids make a cake for me with the Easy Bake Oven I mentioned earlier.  Was actually pretty good, though my wife had given them real cake mix to use and made cup cakes with the rest.

Regarding my friends mom, she was great.  Their house used to be a gathering point for a number of us at the firehouse.  We would all meet there and then head out to cause whatever mayhem after our shifts.  My father is also good friends with the family and so he is taking it hard.  Too close with recent memory.

We are off to dinner.  Can hardly wait.  I really like a good steak and good company.
God Bless each of you.
Dennis

Of all the events that I have attended the WGH show is far and away the best. The greatest thing about it is the participation of almost all of the manufacturers as well as the amount of "O" sellers that have tables. Unfortunately the closest one this year will be in Long Beach in february.

Maybe one of these years I'll make it to Cal-Stewart or York, probably when pigs fly.

Gotta run, be back later !

Pat....I was minding my own business in 2004 putting together my layout, laying in the sun, drinking adult beverage and generally not having a care in the world.  Then I got the CALL.  It was about three thirty in the morning during a heavy thunderstorm with tornadoes and hail and the phone rang as the thunder boomed.

"Hello", I said in a tired voice.

"Is this Buckeye Riveter?"

"Who wants to know?"

"Is this Buckeye Riveter?

"Whose this? And what do you want?"

"This is Chief Eagles and I want to know if where in the heck you live in Ohio. We all figure you are a fake because none of us on the C T T forum can find a place in Ohio named Roger's Corners."

"You mean you are calling me to ask where I live?"

"Why sure.  We all want to know where you live in Ohio"

Now Pat it is three thirty in the morning when all the drunks in Ohio are really happy.  What would you have done?   I believe he once called Laz at two in the morning to see if he really lived north of the MD, that's Mason Dixon for all you lurkers.  I guess he was very disappointed that Laz did not live in a shack on the bayou in Arkansas or Mississippi.

One more thing:

Chief - Roseyville ain't that big.  Do you and Lucy have the same stylist?

RockIsland - Sorry about the keyboard, and the teeth kicking.  It was amazing hearing the crowd forgetting about their recent 3 championships...Disapprove

LawsonFarms - My "calling" is to keep things light.  We started work this morning with an "intruder" in our station.  I immediately dubbed him Mr Jingles, and roll call was lost from there. 10 cents a head, 2 for kids...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DENNIS - A TRULY FINE GENTLEMAN WITH A GREAT FAMILY!  Happy B-Day

Friday is confirmed for wife to go in the hospital. We don't have the room number or time yet. Tomorrow is more lab work in the morning and they are taking a lot, so I will be the designated driver. Need to get some paperwork notarized just in case - might hit the bank on the way home. Depending on when this is done, I'll try to get to work before lunch time!  Might go in a little later and take wife to lunch if she is up for it.  We're just keeping our eyes on the prize.  Her Mom is going to come up and help for a few days every other week and we have family and friends around us who all want to help too, which is very uplifting.  I will keep you guys posted.  She can get cards, but no flowers, no plants, no balloons, etc.  Nothing that can collect dust or germs.  We bought a bunch of puzzles for her to put together there, but they have been nixed too.  They also said no to a clock radio - I suspect they don't want clocks in there.

Well - big news in St. Louis, Mark MacQwire confesses he was on steriods.  Duh.  I think that all the players should get their millions, but they should be pumped full of steroids and pain killers and whatever else so that they are on the very top of their game despite anything right up until they go to the hospital and retire.  That would make it an actual contest!

Still no Lion.....  Grrrrrrrr.

TARDIS is ready, so let's get going guys - gotta hit the hay early as I was up late last night doing paperwork.

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

A BIG HAPPY BIRTHDAY DENNIS !!  Happy B-Day  Happy B-Day

I believe Jack had asked about the Pole Dancing neighbor, its been really quite the past couple of months.  Don't know where she is working, but the "callers" are not as frequent.  But, time catches up to everyone as does gravity.  So not really sure, will have to pay more attention.

Chris made his first trans-continental solo trip.  He arrived in Milwaukee fine.  Apparently they have plans to go to the Harley museum tomorrow.  That would be great!  Sure hope he uses his return ticket for the flight home!  Don't have room for another vehicle.  It was funny this morning, he and his mom where text messaging each other, right up to the take-off.  Then she monitored the flight all day on "Flight Tracker".  Sure amazes me with all the effort on airline security, you can get real time information on aircraft location (long & lat), altitude, air speed, miles completed, miles remaining etc..  Just amazes me, he also indicated security was a non issue at LAX.

Brutus, Great NEWS, how long will the procedure take?

Spent the day preparring a presentation for tomorrow night for a computer club.  Its that time of the year again, they are all calling for schedule opportunities.  Have another one schedule for the first of February in Glendora, (near Ray).  Usually get some residual business out of it.  Plus in a small way its giving something back to the community.

Got home too late to do the watering, will have to do that in the morning, since tomorrow night is booked.  Did get two of the cars washed Sunday, and still no rain, thats great.  We did have a shaker this evening, don't know what the rating was, but still nerve racking.

Don't have much more to report on, so hope everyone has a great day tomorrow and the families are all doing well.

A BIG HAPPY BIRTHDAY DENNIS !!

Well thanks to my experiences with pre-TMCC toy trains I was able to fix the furnace/hot water heater yesterday.  There was a stuck relay that needed a shot of the same spray I use on my e-units.  A little tap, and Voila!

Best wishes to you Brutus, and prayers for your wife and her doctors.

Anybody here planning on going to the Big E show in Springfield, MA?  I'll be coming via charter bus on Saturday the 30th.

Hi GUYZ,

21 and cold one, (not a beer) again here.  To get to freezing today.

BUCKEYE,  abbout that CHIEF call.......

As I can recollect it was at 230 AM after a night filled with OL MILs sitting outside by outdoor fireplacewith BRO, after  afun filled day o phesant hunting.   CHIEF calls on the phone, I stumble out of bed onto the dirt floor in my shack or house, whilst walking to the crank phone stubbed big toe on bolder in middle of the floor to answer the phone.  I say Hello in my semi drunken state,  CHIEF EAGLES here, are you a YANKEE?  I say no I'm a CLEVELAND fan, why you callin?  He says cause I thought you had a still and lived in the bayou.  I said no what you been drinkin?  He says SWEET TEA.  A then says, if you lived in the bayou, I'd invite you to do some beaver huntin with me, but since you are a YANKEE going to give you a free trip to ROGERS CORNERs, elev 936ft., I gotta buddy there for you to meet.  I still didn't get the round trip free flight tickets and free lodging that he was talking about.  Still waiting CHIEF?

Stay frosty,

Good morning all,

It is still cold in SE Indiana.  Rock Island 52, to clairfy my activities at the YMCA, I might spend a total of an hour there.  I only do 20 minutes of soccer drills, and the weights only take 10-15 minutes.  Where the time comes into play is on the treadmill.  14-15 minute miles chew up a lot of time.  However, the Wednesday soccer scrimmages can last hour and and a half.  Outside of the YMCA and the Tardis, I lead a pretty boring life.  TBIL anytime tonight.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Morning guys.  Got a few big cases today, so not sure when I'll get home.  Thanks again for the kind thoughts regarding my birthday.  Have a few ideas to work with scenery on the layout.  Seems I am really making progress lately.  We have a bunch of things to keep us busy over the next few weeks, so layout time may be limited.  Still checking on hobby shops/train stores on the trip to Nashville.  Hope to get some railfanning in while heading there.
God Bless,
Dennis

I don't get late night calls from the Chief, and they usually come when he is waiting for some food-based venue to commence.  There are times I worry that he may have slipped over the MD line for a sneaky Reb raid deep into the North.  This is why I have Dobermans serving as the backbone of my home security measures.

One time he told me about his visit to two train shops near me......Charles Ro in Malden MA and Northeast Trains in Peabody MA.  Off the top of my head, the first is about 15 miles from me and the second about 7.  Too close for comfort.

Jack.

Aloha! Might get up to 25 today here - my long day with class tonight. Looking forward to the train ride home. Got my CTTs and Classic Trains. Thanks for the update, Brutus - and you too, Don. Always interested in your neighbor's activities. Strictly from a professional perspective of course. Read all about steam on Ireland's railways last eve and caught up on some 'taped' TV with the bride. Boy, I'm sure glad my phone calls from the Chief usually occur during broad daylight, even though I'm usually in the basement and he's in his truck.

Good morning

Nothing good ever comes from late nite phone calls. So I have an unlisted number after ten.

Bright sun and 20. No snow melt from that but above 32 is forecast later this week. Granny is having her stress test and here I am without a dining car. A funeral home visit this afternoon, no plans beyound that point. I hope to catch a ride home on the train  with Doug M. tonite.

Being from Virginia it may not be a problem. It doesn't matter anyway since from 8:00PM to 6:00 AM we hook the phone directly to the fuse box. Gives an electrifying experience.Whistling
