Starting to pack for our vacation tonight. Traveling to Finland to visit the foregin exchange student we hosted years ago. Two week trip. No rail travel, though.
I'm not expecting to have computer access while we are traveling, so no posts for a while.
Coming back from lunch today we found a rail grinding work train pulled off on one of the industrial sidings. Interesting piece. Locomotive at both ends, two crew cars, three tank cars, two generator cars and three grinding cars. All grungey grimey dirty. At first glance, it looks like the train has been on fire.
The friend with me had his camera. We pulled off and took pictures. When I get copies, I'll post them.
Good evening all,
It is constantly changing weather in northern GA as the southern invasion is in its second day. Advanced successfully to Knoxville on Sunday, catching the defenses napping. Moved on to Atlanta today and swept thru the city, visiting the Georgia Aquarium where some hard earned Yankee dollars were spent watching Northern Pike and other rare fishes. Even Yankee fish have invaded the Southland. Tomorrow I get to start two and a half days of CDC indoctrination. Brutus, I have a secret beacon lit so you will have to home in on it with the GPS. I had hotcakes and sauage from MickeyD's this morning on the dining car. I hope everyone has a good day, but I will have to catch up on the postings when I return to the Hoosierland.
Keep on training,
Mike C. from Indiana
sir james Igranny left with+250. thats the way things go.

Charlie SJ is too funny! Said banilla is on, come and get it, so let's get going before he eats it all Mike, I've got you on the screen! 8nTruck, I'll drop off a portable beacon for you too, that way we can track you down over there
Keep not getting around to Thomas - stuff comes up. Tonight I cleaned the grill and just chilled out with the family. Some good chat with RT and then SJ on the computer and now just reading about soldering. I've never soldered electronics really - just tacked wires to a motor or something. Don't want to mess up that whistle board. Also need to add a resistor in there. Found the directions and a website with info on doing it, so we'll see how it goes. Just have to screw my courage to the sticking place, as Wm. Shakespeare once said.
Doug M - Great picture!!! Love it!
Brent - you do good work! Excellent!
RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
Managed to get a number of things done around the house today. This place is starting to grow on me, now that I've actually been here for a bitThe goal is to be working in the garage later this week. The engine is calling. I figure even if I can get just a bit done a day it will be progress. There is also the advantage of getting the tools organized so I can try different track ideas on the floor of the living room.
Nothing new on the medical front today. Place that did the endoscopy called to make sure I made it thru the weekend ok. That was nice. Have another procedure to be scheduled. Lab work last week is still out there too. Dennis, some of the later thinking by the experts is esophageal spasms, what's your thoughts on that critter?
Buckeye - really liked all your photos of the train festival, especially all the good detail shots. I kinda forgot how big the big ones really are. Guess I got used to thinking of Consolidations and Moguls as standard size.
8mtruck - the cog mechanics sound fascinating. I've been up the Pikes Peak cog railway, interesting but not steam and much less manual labor. With British sports cars and Corvair vans I definitely like the funky stuff.
Brent - know what you mean about what you wanted to say. I keep paper handy and take notes:) Deck looks good! Still wondering about all that green stuff on the ground...
Dennis - w/ you on the French locomotive. Some of the overseas stuff is pretty cool.
Brutus - soldering can be a bit of an art. Especially boards. A couple of our guys at work are the masters, soldering like main chips w/ 100+ fine pins. Use your smaller tip, fine solder, and don't keep the heat too long on the board as this can roast components. You want the tip hot enough for the solder to melt quickly so you don't have to apply the heat to the part very long. You can also use alligator clips as heat sinks near critical parts. Most of the work on my tube radios is fairly heavy stuff and I've learned there is a big difference in finer work. There's a fair number of good tutorials on the web as well.
Jim - liked the photos of your Flyer collection. Looking forward to seeing those running around all that new benchwork!
Ok, laundry to finish up and then time to crash. Night all.

Bob.....I'm glad you enjoyed my attempt at train photography, but this photo puts everything I took to shame. http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=291978&nseq=10

Mornin' boys. Sunny & 74 here in the Mid-Atlantic region. Yesterday went down to the dock and hung out with the marina owner a bit. Gonna haul out the Hunter in a couple weeks to power wash the bottom. Went to Grandmom's 'cuz she's really old and I've been thinking 'bout her a lot. Stopped by work to remember what the place looked like (back to grind tomorrow) and picked up paycheck. Stopped by Namco and got a 12 foot pool for the youngest princess. Sure could have used Chief's help blowing it up. Challenge is finding level ground in back yard. Round 1 went to slope.
OH! Forgot to mention. Tom came over with a quartet of SantaFe bluebonnets (2 30's and 2 20's). Neat seeing foreign power on the CONNELLSVILLE SUB. He also shared pics and stories from the ATSF convention in Chicago. He is a big fan of Naperville, IL.
Good morning all,
It is sunny in NW Georgia. Quick post before the session begins. Had a good breakfast buffet. Hotel was interesting. I hope everyone has a good day.

Mornin’ Giz...
Another wonderful hot & humid day here in America’s playground.
Have to stop by and swap out the car for the bike later, checking out my seat in the afternoon...hopefully the afternoon rains will hold off until tonight – still calling for spotty storms anyway...
Cleaned up the train room last night, at least you can walk around a bit....banging my head against the wall, the Bridge to the Legacy only operates 1 track, should I run another wire to the other track to make it work? No power to that track even thought the ZW is cranked to max...more stuff to worry about.
Really want to redo that room and organize it better...I have so much rolling stock and this is really the time to get it done, since outside activities are limited due to the oppressive heat & humidity. Might have to build shelving to suit my tastes.
RT- Glad you and the Mrs are ok
Brent – nice work on the porch –
Can’t get the YOUTUBE here at work and the laptop is still giving me fits – but some of the pictures are awesome!!
OK gang be well...prayers to all that need ‘em will check in later

Well... it sure was funny on round 2. Smallest princess was on her brother's boogie board. She managed to "surf" right to the weakest point of the inflate-a-pool. The ensuing tidal wave watered the back yard pretty good.
Slope 2 - dog 0
Fife, Good luck with the pool. Our grounds are very flat, so that is not usually a problem.
Rich, heard this morning that one of the Batt. Chiefs in Newark fell through a roof at a job. Critical, but they expect him to make it. One of my best friends is a Batt. Chief there, but was not him.
Computor is messing up, I'll try later.

Afternoon all!
Quiet day here...did some shopping, and played computer games with 4-yo, fertilized the grass...waiting for the rains. I do hear a lot of thunder, but nothing yet.
Beacon is on!
Kurt

Excellent job with those shelves, really shows off the trains plus it give you the perfect storage area
Jon
So many roads, so little time.
Aloha from class where everyone is busily working on their webpages in the lab. Just got the new a/c installed - of course, the weather this week isn't supposed to top 75. LOL. Bride called that all three family cell phones have failed in some way again. Can you believe I've gone through 8 phones since April? Eight! Whew. They're not happy with me. LOL. Only another 40 minutes til I can head home. Beacon will be lit!
Prayers for that Battalion Chief.
Doug--
Would you mind sharing the name of that cell phone company? PM me. Thanks.
Jon thanks for the comment well heres the completed shelves with all the trains in there proper spot.
I put the C&O Chessie freight set on top where the GG-1 was.
Good Evening
82 today. Sct. rain all over the place, but not here.
RT the shelves and trains look good. You may have to brace the back side of the wall though..:)
Beacon is on, banilla is ready. Brutus bring on the thingy...S.J.

RT shelves look great!!!
Waiting for the storms here...been looking ominous all evening...
RT - shelves look great. Man, I hope they get that AC fixed fast! We cooled off a lot here due to the storm that rolled through today, dropped 16 degrees in an hour!
Kurt - you want to drive tonight? What's up with the motorcycle project?
Got my TCA magazine, not sure if it came today or yesterday, but it showed up in my stack of mail today CTT has a very good issue too - I really like that layout they did. Interesting little movie about it too
Need to get over to my friend's house this weekend if I can and help him on his boat. He wanted to have it done this month, but not going to make it. We have just had so much rain this year. He did get a new "seawall" put in at his cabin this year. Guess I won't get out there again until next year at this point.
Tardis is ready, so let's get going! A couple beacons are out of place, but we can find them easily
Was a good day for the layout today. I secured some of my sections together, and attached legs with gussets to add strength. Still have some more to do. So far, I have a 4x10 L shaped with a 2'x4' at the end, making it a 10x6 L. There is still plenty of room for expansion.
Have a good one!
Wes
Finishing up the packing tonight, clearing camera memories, charging camera batteries, etc., then off into the wild blue tomorrow to go over the top of the world - actually, around the top of the world. But if the airlines flew as the crow flies.....
Fife - that pool adventure will be one that is remembered!
RT - shelves look good. Is that a Coke switcher pulling the soft drink box cars?
8ntruck RT - shelves look good. Is that a Coke switcher pulling the soft drink box cars?
Its the coke set from 1974 with 2 extra Fanta boxcars one is from K-Line and the other is an extra Lionel one. ( the Kline one has applied side ladders where Lionel is molded on)
Thanks for comments about the shelves guy and yes SJ there probably is some weight there but I also put 2 extra screws in the back shelf into the supporting studs that the brackets aren't on.
Hot one in the Ol' Pueblo today, supposed to have got up to 107 and no rain in sight 'til early next week.
I finally set up a loop of track in the front room. Up to this point the 2026 has just done circles on the table or back and forth at the bench at the scope. First time she hauled anything but the tender for me as well (broke out all the rolling stock - the submarine car and the caboose). Had a little problems w/ reversing at first, think the reversing switch on the RW-110 was sticking. One of the drawbacks of hauling your stuff over 10 miles of bumpy dirt roads. Once that was sorted out, she ran pretty good. Like a lot of these old Lionel's seemed to get better the more it ran. Will have to get a sheet of foam board, as it is fairly noisy on the wood floors here. Sure looked nice w/ all the rods flashing. Very therapeutic.
RT - Nice work on the shelves and nice collection there! Will be a while before I need that many shelves:)
Carl from Hobby Horse is supposed to send out the puller and the wheels cups, so the 1664 may be in action soon. Phone and internet switches over tomorrow, so we'll see how that goes. Hope everyone is having a good week and thoughts and prayers for those in need.
It is cloudy in NW Georgia. Training session had a power outage for about two hours so we are behind. Probably some Rebs trying to sabotage the invasion :-) Cost them some casualties on their side as well. Had a nice evening with the 'saucy wench' exploring parts of Atlanta. I had a breakfast buffet this morning. Beacon is lit in the secret location. Will make a strategic withdrawl tomorrow. I hope everyone has a good day.
Good Morning All:
Rain again last night. 4 nights in a row. Haven't had to water things for a week.
Received the Sept. CTT yesterday. Great issue. I especially enjoyed the article on "Making Your Layout Look Larger". This issue arrived later than normal for some reason.
RT - Nice NASCAR train display. Maybe I will eventually have enough cars to run around the corner and fill two sides of a display.

Good Morning
Showers overnite. very humid. Low 80s today. Ready for a trip to Kroger.
Buckeye! How did you go to Frankenmuth and not have to stop at all those outlet stores at Birch Run? Granny still likes going there even though she knows every store, I think.
RT shelves are great, only funnin as I have shelves every where in the train room. TTFN...S.J.
Morning all. Computer fixed. Had to run my spyware to remove some nasties. Typical, downloaded a song of a reputable site, but it sent a bug with it.
Bob, sent you a message. You are on the right track.
Mike C., a lot of things to do in Hotlanta. Stone Mountain is neat, also the railroad heritage museum is a good thing to take in. You can go see the original "General" locomotive.
Well, I popped the one turnout that was giving my trouble. Has no power. This is wired seperate from track power. I checked the connections and they are solid. It is Fastrack, so looks like I will be taking the back of her tonight. Then again, our kids are going to a sleep over and so the Mrs. and I may take in Dinner and a Movie instead. Either way, will address the problem before resuming operations on the pike. After this is done, we go to scenery!
God Bless,Dennis
