Jim,

I didn't get any cattle or controllers with the 771s. The two 771s with the green bases cleaned up great. The 771 with the blue base has surface cancer on the base, but I always wanted to restore a 771 anyway.Smile,Wink, & Grin The 736 car that was in the box is missing three door guides and both doors on the operating side, all wheels, and one link coupler. It does work though. The couplers and wheels I have, but I am not worried about the missing doors. There was also a mint envelope of 693 Track Locks, a 696 track trip, and a 707 track terminal hiding in the bottom of the box.

Afternoon all.  Sunday School and a trip east to Mom's.  Then eastern NC pork bar-be-que and SOUTHERN Fried Chicken.  Went by friends' house and we visited for some time.  Now home for a while.  Going to check pond and feed fish and deer.  Chat later.

I finally got the table saw together and cut enough wood to get the first table together. I couldn't imagine doing all this without the table saw. I also ordered some cattle for the 771. The other parts that are needed were in one of my bins.

Ole Timer
Kpolak .... I ve been waiting for coal smelling smoke fluid .... they came out with all those others but not that one .... of course the wife would just LOVE that ..... yea right .... LOL .

JT's Mega-Steam has that flavor...I believe someone's Bride said, and I quote, " There is a fine line between the smell of burning tires, and Mega Steam's Coal Fired Steamer."  I think the smell is pretty close.

The only time my Bride is around the trains is at Christmas, and I mainly run Cranberry Wood, and Banilla on occasion.

Way to go Jimbo. Approve

BTW: I knowhow to make it pour down rain.  Fill up my JD pull behind sprayer and start spraying.  About the time I got garden and fruit trees sprayed, started raining very lightly.  So I sprayed the grape vines and by the time I made the shed, I was soaked.  Pouring rain.  Later

Chief, I can't compete with N.C. Bar-B-Que and Southern fried chicken but I'm going to grill some red snapper fish fillets from the Pacific Ocean on the gas grill tonight.  They are good eating but wife makes me cook them outside to keep fish smell out of the house.  I've been on a chicken and fish sort of diet lately for high triglycerides but the price of seafood here will break you.  I think I'd rather have N.C. Bar-B-Que and die happy.

What I did on my vacation.

by Buckeye

I played golf.  I went to my 40th high school reunion.  Visited my mom.  Went to the Rubbermaid Outlet in Wooster, Ohio.  I had lipotripcy for my kidney stones.  I attended my planning commission meeting.  We went to Michigan and shopped at Cabela's and Frankenmuth.  Attended the Train Festival in Owosso, MI.  Drove to Holland, Michigan....my retirement location of choice.  Put up fishing pole rack in garage.

It was a good vacation, now back to my full time job of irritating the Chief.

Jon.....I'm in good hands with the Hawkeyes.

Charlie, Kurt, and Buckeye - thanks for all the pics of the Train Festival. Looked awesome!

Buckeye - regarding your comment on the engineer of the #110 (understand that is the smallest standard gauge Pacific ever built BTW), I had the honor of a cab ride in the #93 and even learned how to fire and our engineer was Lynn, the only woman engineer on the Ely Route.

Chief - my buddy says he could make it rain by leaving the trailer tougue down on his old trailer, so of course it would fill w/ water

RockIsland - that may be a possibility w/ the hops, although I can already see the look on my docs face. I've heard of the Conway RR, but don't know much about it. Was hoping I'd have time to make it up to the Mt. Washington Cog when I was up that way last year, but wasn't able to fit it in.

RT - My buddy had a similar problem w/ a new fan. Had a direct short to the case. They are building these things fast and furious now. Glad it didn't end up any worse for you.

Jim - Score on your recent find! Sounds like you are making lots of progress. The 302 is sitting here in front of me. In better shape than I expected. All the parts are there. The pilot is a little banged up. It is the 4 piece cast metal version. Tender will need a little work, but it's all there. Suprised as to how heavy it is. Almost weighs as much as my 1664.

Endoscopy on Friday was fine, as usual. Will prob hear results of the lab tests early this week. Blood sugar has been fairly consistent, so it is really looking like that is not part of the problem now. I have to say this is all a bit discouraging. Know it could be much worse, but all this just keeps dragging on.  Gastroenterologist wants to do some other X-rays as well. I guess we will keep eliminating things. Just have to keep remembering that famous quote from that one general in the Battle of the Bulge: "Nuts!"

Let me know if you guys find a good coal smoke fluid. When we would get the #93 ready for a weekend run, we would fire her off on Friday and then bank the fire and push her back into the engine house w/ one of the RS diesels. One of us would have to cap the stack w/ half an old garbage can to keep the heat in. I used to volunteer for that one. Was fun to climb to the top of the warm engine and smell the smoke collecting in the rafters.  Actually have the Nevada Northern Railway calendar on the desk. Has a wonderful photo of the #40 on the front. That has kept a smile on my face recently.

Hope everyone had a good weekend

Howdy guys!  Well, had a nice day.  Saw the new Potter movie, which we thought was great.  Bought lunch at the theater though - talk about expensive!  Each of us had a hotdog and soda with a couple boxes of candy to share - yikes!  Trying to get some good together-family time before the hospital stay.  Went to the grocery store then, still as a family, and ended the day by burning some burgers and hotdogs on the grill Chef

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Low 80's here.  Went to church this morning.  Had a guest violinist there.  Wonderful addition to the service.

Watched F1 and Brickyard this afternoon, then went to a concert featuring a pianist and the violinist that played at church.  Both of these guys play in Bronson.  Good show, espically when they started improvising on a theme.

Youngest son made it home tonight.  He will be house and critter sitting for us while we go on vacation soon.  Hopefully, he can pick up some work with the State Fair for a couple of weeks.

Bob - I've ridden the cog railway on Mt. Washington.  Interesting locomotives.  The boilers tilt downhill when the locomotive is on level track.  This makes the bolier level on the grades on the mountain.  The turnouts for the cog railway are also interesting.  The cog runs on a rack gear that runs down the middle of the track - like our toy train third rails.  Sections of the rack gear on the turnout are hinged outside of the rails, so when the direction of the turnout is changed, the sections of rack gear are removed and replaced.  As I recall, the record for changing directions on one of these turnouts is something like 28 seconds.  Two men, lots of manual work.  There is also a 'scale'  indicating the magnitude and direction (tension or compression) of the coupling force on the coupler between the locomotive and the coaches.  The brakeman in the coaches watches this very carefully on the way down the mountain.

That's about all for now.

Mornin' boys.  Mornin' Chief.  Here, I'll just lick the corner of my napkin and get that b-b-q under your chin...  Cloudy and 75 here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Did get all of my track cleaned yesterday, and actually did turn some wheels.  Found out my new LIONEL scale sized flat car don't like the Narrows portion of my layout.  Also, Mount MOLSON crept a little closer to one of the mainline tracks (culprit - expansion) which snagged my 60 foot boxcars.

Not sure what to do today. 2 Australian navy vessels are leaving the port around 1100, so part of me wants to sail out to the channel to see them off.  Youngest wants to go to the pool.  Boy wants to go to weight training for football at 5.  My buddy, Tom, is coming over at 7 for rail.

Good visit with the Chief last night, like I've said before, I wish we lived closer together.  With that said, I see a trip east next spring or summer on the bike.  Even though my heart lies to the west as far as traveling goes, it's time for me to point the bike east and just do it.

I have the Today Show on in the background and they are broadcasting from Lake George, NY.  What a beautiful area, wow.  Fife must be there as I see a beautiful sail boat flying gigantic pirate flag Pirate  That would be a stretch for me, we'll see how the budget shapes up and then decide.  The time of travel is also a consideration, I'd like to be gone when the boss is with her sisters in Norway and they haven't chosen their time yet.

A strong part of my focus would be PA with all of the railroad history and Civil War battlefields.  When we came out for York 3 years ago we just fell in love with that area.  Depending on the time of the year I would really like to swing south and hit Savannah, Georgia.  I took a Nikon Photography class 3 years ago in KC and one of the presenters was from Savannah.  He has traveled all over the world and his two favorite places are Savannah and Africa, would love to put Africa on the bucket list but Savannah seems more likely.

It would be wonderful to turn this into a train/excursion/sight seeing trip.  Seems like it could be done in a two week period.  The one objective for me is that I don't want to be sitting in a nursing home twenty years from now saying---"I sure wish I had done that trip to the east coast on the bike".  I try to live my life with no regrets.

Morning.  Off to lake house.  Pick up buddy and come back to FIL's.  Pick blueberries [he has acres and are free].  Then back to the lake house.  May come back by home and pick up Lucy as she will not be going on this trip.  Hope all have a great week.  May you always have wind in your sails.  Later.

 "Evenin' Guys

Heavy Thunderstorms tonight and plenty of rain...crazy afternoon...

Watching the Yankees and Rays - Yanks up 5-0 and cleaning the train room.

Jon - I can meet you in Savannah or Columbia, I ordered my Sundowner seat from Harley today, I'll test fit it and see if I like it.  Cheaper than a Mustang seat.  Lots of HD guys rave about it.  Looks like I'll be keeping the Sporty - was looking at a Fat Boy for less than 10K, I'm in too deep on the Sporty right now.  I can add bags and a windshield later if needed.

Just so you know - the anniversary is on the 19th - but thanks for the early congas, guys.

Mrs is thinking about getting remarried with Elvis (or maybe Liberace...) in Vegas.  Could be interesting.

Not much else going on - just finished up the dishes and drying my laundry whilst I'm doing the train room.

Catch ya inna bit

I don't remember when I last posted... I created a Shutterfly site for the deck project.

http://brentsandsusanspicutures.shutterfly.com/

Let me know how it works. I think I have to update some stuff on the site to make it look nicer.

Tomorrow I hope the screened porch is roofed and the sun room has all the walls up and sheeted.

Can't remember what everyone else wrote... Sad

Brent, your progress looks awesome...times flies when you work all day, then work all night...

Jonadel, Buckeye lives 15 minutes from me.  I live in Powell, OH 43065...

Started framing up some benchwork tonight.  It's amazing how fast the room gets consumed with benchwork if you let it...

Have a good one!

Wes, I know what you mean about benchwork consuming space. I got the framing for my second table done, but I have to get more screws to attach the legs. I will look into Sound Stop when I get the screws as well. Brent, The deck remodel looks great.

Chief, The birds have been getting my blueberries for a week already.  may have to head to the farm and get a few bucket fulls.  I see Blueberry Cobbler in the future.

Jon, Savannah is great!  Your bride would probably want to make that trip though.  Look up the Roundhouse Museum there....worth taking in.  Mostly self guided tour.  They are rebuilding some steam engines and have several trolleys, etc. on hand.  Also, some great food and real Southern Charm.  If we time it right, my bride loves it there and we could meet you.

Well, was a nice day at work.  I am off call, so just had to check on one patient, work on another and I was out of there.  Did some shopping for the fishing trip this Friday.  Have to keep the son in mind for snacks and entertainment.  He travels well and this will be a good time for the boys to get away.  Also picked up the fixings for making home made stuffed shells.  One thing they don't have around these parts is good Italian food.  I made two full trays of them, one for us and one for one of the couples in our Sunday school class.  He is a Marine Capt. and his wife just gave birth to their second child.  Kid was 9.6 pounds and was a month early!  A Marine in the making.

On the train front, I have been catching up on the latest CTT.  Nice issue.  Hate to admit it, but that MTH French locomotive is looking sweet!  I think I will pass this time around though.

God Bless,
Dennis
