Good Afternoon Ya'll From Cloudy and 77 degrees Taxachusetts,

We know how to do paving projects right in MA.  The single (only) main highway that circles Boston is Route 128/Route 95.  What "they" do at 8pm, and unbeknown to the citizens, is close all three travel lanes and then funnel all of the traffic down onto the one breakdown lane.  Add in a car wreck and you have a perfect standstill with mass asphyxiation.  So on our trip home from dog training in NH last night It took the wife and I about 35 minutes to drive the first 40 miles and 2 hours to go the last 10.

Wife was pretty cranked up because she was very tired and wanted to get home. Then things got even worse. We were forced to roll up the windows and use the a/c to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning.  Solid plan, except......That is when the dog's plumbing decided that the hot dogs my wife fed him liberally at our dog training class began giving him a serious case of gas!  Hmmmm, death by carbon monoxide or dog gas.  Tough choice.  The task was difficult, but I was able to reach the switch and open the sunroof before I passed out.  I did manged to get a laugh out of the wife by blaming her for the odor in the car.  Then I lifted her spirits and hopes by informing her I had carefully hidden a couple of Dove ice cream bars in the freezer.  All of the good cheer and light mood was fleeting, however, when upon arrival at home at 11:45pm the wife discovered HER son had eaten HER ice cream and mine as well before he left for work.  Was she hot about that!  But as you will read further down, she only gets mad when it is something of HERS that comes up missing.

Fife......I made the mistake of buying some sort of epoxy which when you mixed the glue with the hardener turned grey.  Mixed up a batch for the wife who was going to repair one of her favorite painted ceramic "lighthouses of New England" coasters that had cracked in two. You guessed it.  The dog knocked the glue covered piece of cardboard off the coffee table and onto the new carpeting, glue side down.  Acetone wouldn't even lift the glue out of the rug!  That stuff really sticks!  Had a good time watching the carpet cleaners trying to get that spot out, without luck.  Always buy the clear glues.

DougM.......sweet view out the window of your office.  Where do you hide the DougM replica mannequin and rope ladder to effect your escape for those two hour summer walks around the Loop?

Jim/Brutus.......continued prayers for your wife.  What a trooper!

MikeC......hope you shut out those suckers in the first round of the playoffs.

Dennis......like you with your little ones,  I love to let the granddaughter "help" with things, even when it takes 3 times as long.  But what irks me the most with the kids?  I discover strategic tools I really need missing from my toolbox.  But the granddaughter is not the culprit.

Yes, there is a tool gremlin in my house, one who keeps taking things and then doesn't put them back.  To wife:   "Pam, I can't tighten the hose clamps on the swimming pool filter which you insisted must be up and operational tonight because, except for the star drivers, all of my screwdrivers are missing.  How did my toolbox get unlocked in the first place when only you and I have a key?"  Yup, I lock the toolbox so I can have the simplest of tools when I need them, and she unlocks it for the son.  Same son.  Been going on for 25 years.  Bet you I have purchased or have gotten as gifts a half dozen socket wrench sets and about 10 dozen screwdrivers. AngryBanged Head

Solution:  Feed dog a pound of hot dogs and place him in car.  Whack son over head with hammer if it isn't missing from the tool box.  Next option, use the pipe wrench he hasn't yet found a reason to borrow.  Place unconscious son in car and duck tape him to the rear seat.  Close doors and windows, and let nature take its course. Big Smile

Later gang.

Jack

jack another solution to tool box. when you get new tools for the 2000th time get a new lock this time give wife key to old lock and when she can't get in and son can't get tools say I thought I gave you a key are you sure your key don't work well I must of thrown out the wrong key I get one made as soon as I can. (which never happens and you keep wife and son out of tool box) . I use to have same problem except no kids would be wife needing a screw driver or hammer and then puts them up somewhere like kitchen draw that is full of junk or under sink in cabinet theredon't ask me why I have no idea niether does she. Confused

well not much happening. will drop in later I hope lol

Prayers for all that need them.

Jack and RT -I wander how many of us have a wife with stealitus?Disapprove I know I do, and it is not limited to my tools. Includes office supplies, garden tools, remote controls, Etc. What ever she uses it gets left where ever she used them, never returned to where they belong. Have you heard "I don't remember using it. You must have misplaced it."Sigh Does make life interesting!

Ummm... I guess you failed to read the part where I stated 'I'm going with The 'Q' and my parents'... all they are interested in is dinner and the murder mystery, the train ride is for me. I will have no other train related activities this weekend... sorry my father will enjoy the train ride as well, but we will be with two german women - stubborn, bull headed, gotta have it their way women = german. What my father and I find amazing is they get a long very, very, well... for female inlaws it is a miracle! LOL!

Jack - white wine for the guests, red wine for the hosts (makes the guests more tolerable) Wink

Buckeye - now you're calling the Chief a hound dog! There isn't anything wrong with a Southern man lying under the porch in the cool dirt - it's called a bath! Big Smile

Evening all

I am about ready to go back to work and rest up!

I went up to meet with the new pastor of the parishes and ended up canging out the garbage disposal.  I guess that also falls under the job description of Deacon.  We did go over many things.  I think our parishes are really blessed again with a wonderful priest.

Jack - Loved the story!  It conjured up a mental image that was priceless!

Fife - Must of missed you ate the hardware store.  The garbage disposal took the raditional three trips to the store.

Got to go

May God bless

Jack,

I think you forgot a step. After placing the dog in the car, move the car into the sun. This will get things good and hot for maximum effect.

Brent,

As someone also of German descent, I know what you mean about being stubborn and bullheaded. We can't help it!Big Smile I read what you said about Susan and your mother getting along very well together. I am not married, but from what I can tell, I think I'd be worried if I was in your shoes.ShockWink

Charlie,

            Happy B-Day

Today started out bad for me. Last night, I saw a beautiful Flyer 490 diesel on ebay. I was going to buy it this morning, but someone beat me to it.Disapprove Now, I have become determined to find a nice Flyer SIB 322 Hudson before Christmas. I'd like to get a Flyer 332AC or 336 Northern, but they are always too expensive for me. Tomorrow, I will put some plywood on the basement floor so I can try out some of my ideas for a trackplan. I might go to the antique stores in the area to see if they have any Flyer stuff.  I spent tonight fishing for two hours, then I went in the pool.

Banks, sounds like a good find on ebay!

Buckeye - Chuck would have a Lake House then, right?

Probe - good luck on the AF search!

Nice chat tonight with SJ, Doug and Charlie.  Missed RT, but got an email Smile

I stopped on the way home tonight and found some rc servo wire harness that will give me some good wire for my tether, thanks Roger!  Also some 2 conductor wire to possibly put an LED lamp on Thomas!

We had some Excellent News today - one of the sisters is a match for my wife on the registry so they sent her a laboratory kit to do the Big Test on her.  If she passes, then we are cooking with oil and they will send all the results with a request to proceed with the bone marrow transplant - keep the prayers going, because they are showing definite results, thank God.

Tardis is fueled and ready on the pad!  I thought we'd fly over the base of the LEM tonight and check it out?  Here goes!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Charlie, A belated Happy B-Day.

Brent, Enjoy the weekend but please don't change the story line to "Throw Momma From The Train". Clown

Spent a great day just wandering around "The Wild Animal Park", thought of Fife at one of the areas. Must have been 40 to 50 Flamingoes at one of the lakes.

Just got some evening rain. Very nice. More phone tag fun w/ the doc's office today. Was at another appointment and missed it. Yesterday? You guy's will love this. Was watching one of the "From the Earth to the Moon" episodes and the phones sounded just like my antique, especially when the cooler is running. Try again tomorrow. Also going to give the ol' gastroenterologist a call and see what he thinks of all this.

Jack - that was a heck of a story!

Brent - had to chuckle over the German inlaw thing. The scope was built by the Max Planck Institute and we were 50/50 w/ them when I started. Theyr'e great, but interesting.

Dennis - my surgeon friend bounced a few of her ideas off me yesterday. One of these little crossword- puzzle-champion medical terms had symptoms that sounded way too familiar. And you may have been on the mark about the endocrinologist. If you have a little time I'd love to get your thoughts.

Brutus - good news! Hope the tests all work out!

Jim....That is such GREAT news....congratulations. I know the joy and relief when they called me and said we have a Kidney match for you. How soon can you get to the hospial. When this is all past history for the two of you and your familiy(s) you will not believe how great everyone feels! Will a bone marrow transplant require the usual anti-rejection drug regime? Anyway, congratulations. Fingers are crossed and prayers being said for a quick approval and you guys can get back to a "normal" life!!

It is now exactly 12:01 AM pacific time. That means I get to be the first to say....TGIF!

Enjoy the day everyone! Ain't it great to be alive!

Morning to All,

Just a quick cup this morning. Been busy with work and home stuff. Thought we were going  to have to help our son pack and move this weeknd but thankfully that will wait until another time.  The Mrs. is going to visit with some girlfriends on Sunday so I might finally get down to Catoctin Mountain trains.  I think tomorrow is going to be garage clean up day.  It really needs it. It is big enough that we sometimes just dump stuff that really ought to be put away or thrown away out there because it is less trouble, then it get to be such a mess that it will take the better part of a day to clean and straighten up.   Weather should be cool enought to make it tolerable.

Well, off to work I go.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is 62 degrees. Early. Slight rain falling. Going up to 80 today with a chance of rain.

Today is busy. Daughter, SIL, and two grandkids, are coming down for the day. Have a bunch of things to do, before they get here. It's been over a year since we have seen them. Boy is 10 and girl is 8. They love trains. It should be a great day. Pizza is on the menu.

Dining car is on the way. Should be rolling in soon. Planning  a usual breakfast of Cheerios. Maybe a toasted bagel to go along with it.

Buckeye..... TGIF

Y'all have a great Friday.

Good Morning all.

Brutus, that is great news.  Also a wonderful thing the SIL is doing.  Will continue to pray for God to meet you and your family at your need.

Jack, that is a great story.  I am sure it wasn't too fun at the time, but good to look back on.  regarding the missing tools, I have realized that it is good to have several sets of tools.  Gave son a complete set and it has lessened the mysterious tool thievery, but not eliminated it.  Regarding wife with tools, mine is pretty good.  She is more likely to use a one of my hand made pairing knives to turn a screw then to fetch a screw driver from my stash.

Bob, drop me a email and I'll see what we can do.  I have done quite a bit of endocrine research in the past.

Well, it is Friday.  Got another busy day today and one again on Monday, but then I'll be on call.  I was going to work on the layout lastnight, but was too tired and in too much pain.  Grilled some T-Bones and had a good meal.  Then off to bed.  Have heard a few stories of folks with lots of issues going on.  Will pray for them.  Just serves as a reminder of how blessed I really am.

God Bless,
Dennis

Good morning all,

It is cloudy and cool in SE Indiana.  Last night I saw an event I never thought I would live to see.  I witnessed a high school soccer game under the lights in my hometown.  Granted it was a scrimmage, but it still did my heart good.  Unfortunately the concession stand was closed so I did not have my traditional hot dog and Coke to add to the pleasure, but that is ok.  The boys lost 3-2 in a game where they dominated most of the action.  A PK from a hand ball in the box and a fast counter attack off a missed shot were the real daggers for the boys.  I did go to the YMCA to do weights before the game.  This weekend will be "Harry Potter" and a massive clean up of "stuff" around the house.  I had the regular fare on the dining car this morning.  Beacon is lit.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

88 - Enjoy the ride.  Perhaps CSX will cooperate with a "meet" in the narrows.  Oh, btw, WESTERN MARYLAND #39, which was nearly destroyed in a fire on the Knox-Kane-Kinzua, is headed for Ridgely for a complete restoration into the circus scheme.

Brutus - Good news...hope it becomes GREAT news. Angel

kpolak - Gonna miss the trainfest.  Understand SP 4449 will not be headed to Minnesota after Michigan, due to financial disagreement with NRHS up there.

Aloha and TGIF. 'Kodachrome'? Now I have that Paul Simon song stuck in my head. Thanks a lot. Nice catching up with Brutus, Sir J and Charlie last eve. Finally found a hotel room for our freshmen orientation weekend. Forgot NASCAR is at the Brickyard that weekend and it's not too far away. Enjoying the breeze off the lake with my open windows. The city is noisy - I can hear the L clattering by, jackhammers, horns, bus engines, sirens. Hope they put the window back in before it rains Wink

Good Morning from wet Southern Ohio

It has rained this morning but I don’t know the extended forecast.  My bride suggested we take the camper out this weekend, so I loaded it on the truck.  It is amazing how something like backing a truck under the camper looks so easy but it is an acquired skill.  There is like one inch of clearance between the wheel wells and you must be perfectly aligned front to back.  Last night it took about 10 tries before success.

Jim T – Good luck on the flyer hunt!  The 332 and 336 are highly sought after ($$$).  I too would like to add one to my collection.  What is your eBay name so I don’t bid against you?

Jim F – Praise God!!!!!  I will continue to keep your bride in my prayer intentions.

Mitch – I worked on our garage Wednesday.  It seems like folks just bring stuff in and let it drop.  Since the grandkids are with us there are bikes and balls and all the stuff they play with.  I may attack the work benches today.

Buckeye – Did I see where it is time to register for York?  What is the procedure for a non-TCA member?  I am going to confirm the weekend in Oct. has no conflicts.  Oh yea, TGIF!

May God bless

Jim

Good morning all, not much going on this week.  Has been very hot too.  Run trains a little in the AM before sun gets high.  Have'nt paid attention to where Chief is.  He must be at the lake house.

Brutus, glad to hear the good news for your wife.  Prayers continue.

Dentist appointment today to look at damaged crown on incisor tooth.  Fixed before but does not last.  Originally got knocked off when getting a cleaning.

I ordered the add on cars for MTH woodside passenger cars from Justrains yesterday.  I have the NYC&HRRR cars which are due in next week.  Some of the other road names are already in stock.  I know the engine that was made to go with them but I'm holding out for something different.  Maybe a little bigger than the 999.

That was a vicious comment about Southern men sleeping in the dirt as being a bath.  Tell us how you really feel.  P.S. I know it was with tongue in cheek.  They sleep in the dirt to get cool, not clean.

Farmer Pat is filling in nicely when chief is absent.  I like the wise farmer sayings.

Phish, bet they did'nt teach plumbing in Deacon school.  It was nice of you to do that.

Have a good weekend y'all,

Ray

Wifey and I are taking a day trip to Saco ME tomorrow with the dog to attend a picnic with about 25 friends and their dogs.  Sounds like a recipe for chaos and stiches/staples to me.  I have the wif'e's list of stuff she wants to bring.  Dog, dog crate, dog bedding, dog blankets, dog bowls, dog towels, camping umbrella for dog shade, dog food,  Add in our two chairs, a 54 qt.cooler, camera stuff, rain slickers and people umbrellas, food, beverages, ice.  All this in a car.  I don't think my wife realizes that the 13 clowns piling out of a Volkswagen Beetle is really a trick.  Getting all this junk in the car will be.

Apologies to those who take my ramblings as complaining.  My intention is to put a smile on someone's face.  As DonB says, if I have offended someone, ignore me.

Brutus.....YAHOO!  Great news!  Prayers?  You've got it, brother!  This is a major breakthrough, one step closer.  You must be pumped!  May God give both of you the strength to hang in there.

When was the last time Chief was this quiet for this many days?

Pat/Dennis......when I was assembling the new kiddie pool, filter, and hoses I needed to grease up some o rings.  Used Bag Balm because it was handy rather than hunt down some lithium grease or vaseline..  Worked great!

JimSP and Mitch.......re when the family runs out of space just throwing stuff in the garage "temporarily" until they can (but never) go through it and put it away or throw it out.  When full, they then start throwing more stuff down in the basement.  What a relief to hear your comments.  I am not alone, and my garage and basement are "normal."  I did learn that going through the junk when the culprits are not there to make "discard versus put away" decisions is a waste of time.

Dennis......how right you are.  I need to reflect on "How lucky I am."  Two days ago I spent an hour on the phone with a down in the dumps friend of ours who is living out in beautiful Snoqualmie WA.  She was depressed about her current life status.  I summarized her own list of haves, and then the have nots.  Then I asked which ones she would swap between lists if she could.  That quieted things down.  There were none.  The have nots were replaceable things and money while the haves included more valuable if not irreplaceable things like a job, her health, and her friends.  The list of today's have nots will surely be replaced by others.

Chuck......it sounds like you are in for quite a visit from the grandkids, daughter, and SIL!  Have fun.

Rich......did I hear it correctly?  HD is laying off 1000 workers?

Commodore Fifedog......has a ring to it.  "Law and order" is taking a 10 day vacation?  However will the rest of the finest get along without you?  Do you need us to guard the yacht while you are gone?  We could always help you out by lightening up things to create a shallower draft, starting in the wine cellar.

Brent......the only danger I see in your getaway with Susan and your parents is that Suzie-Q will have a lot of fun needling you about your folks instead of the other way around.  Or the three of them may gang up on you.  I once took a 454 mile car trip from Boston to Carlisle PA with the wife and my in-laws.  That was over seven hours each way of back seat driving from the three of them, laughing and criticising at my expense.  When I offered to let one of them drive: "Oh no, this is way too much fun!"

Mitch......I think you have things backwards.  "Son's move thankfully delayed."  The thankful part is when they move out!

RaySP.......I always worry about what damage my zealous dental hygienist can do when I visit.  "Jack, I see you have been a good boy with your flossing and brushing.....the teeth and gums are looking great"  She then works me over with the metal torture instruments, the polishing thingy, and the floss as if the job is not complete until I leave a pint in the spittoon.  I prefer to leave the dentists' office in at least as good a condition as when I went in.  It seems that such is not always the case, however.  What a pain!

DougM......your daughter's choice of schools seems great.  Not too far away just in case a road trip is in order and yet not close enough where that first year homesickness turns into multiple unscheduled trips home on the weekends.  Maybe tickets to the Indy 500 are in your future?  Wonder if MikeC has had the same luck with Lucas?  Read where your checkbook is now getting a workout.  That tuition hit is nothing to joke about any more.

Have a good one everybody. TGIF.

Jack

Jack,

Keep the posts coming. Don't worry about what anyone else thinks.

Jim S.,

Don't worry about bidding against me for a while. I just bought a 322AC, so I think I am done for a bit. However, I have always wanted a string of green 650 New Haven pullmans. I am going to get away from the computer before I spend any more money though.
