Mornin' boys.  Mostly cloudy and 70 here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Not much going on in fifedom today.

MichRR4449 - Thanks for sharing your trackside "adventure".  Will a SP 4-8-4 be on your wish-list...?

Aloha all. Nice day here. Can't believe I forgot to post yesterday. Missed Charlie's visitor coming through Chicago. Maybe'll catch her on her way back west. Had a video disaster at church yesterday when, of course, I was directing. Someone tapped a 'mouse' that reset everything in the middle of the pastor's message. Oh well. First major issue in the six years I've been doing this. At least I had the back-up running. Too bad I had a rookie technical director. After recovering from that, I spent much of yesterday pondering what to do with two days in the middle of western Ohio this weekend... Then ran trains with the youngest. Boy, that 520 runs well! Bob, I've enjoyed perusing http://wechoosethemoon.org

Morning all.  Did not get to do work at pond.  Helper did not make it home in time yesterday.  Suppose to do this AM instead.  Had rain over night which was a surprise [had not been forecast].  Now cloudy and foggy.  Will see if helper wants to work this AM.  Nice young man next door.  Get him to help and I pay him.  Gives him some spending money and I do not have to do all the work [as usual].  Got County Commissioners' and then Mayors' association tonight.  Got to pick up Lucy from groomers by noon.  Have a great week.

Good Morning from the Heartlands where the weather couldn't be more perfect, 59 degrees with low humidity and just a light breeze, the best!  Lots of catch up chores today but I should be done my noon, maybe.

I had just a wonderful 4 days in south west Wisconsin, left early Thursday AM and returned home late yesterday afternoon.  It was a midwest rally of folks that simply like to get together and ride in small groups, led by a road capt., through some of the most beautfiul back roads in America.  The max # in a group is supposed to be capped at 20 and the smaller rides are sometime 6-10 bikes.  The routes are well researched and chosen to offer the best scenery possible, I just can't tell you how beautiful the Wisconsin scenery is.  I've travelled to Colorado, South Dakota, Wyoming, etc. and always return refreshed, renewed and grateful for having had the experience.

What I've really discovered the last 4 years though is the relationships that I've built with the people I've met, even my son.  There are always the "wow" moments when you come around a corner or see at the top of a mountain pass but it's the quiet times at the end of the day when just talking with someone you care about that you remember the most.  Friday's ride was 80% in the rain, I hate rain on a bike, I'm absolutely paranoid.  If it's raining when we are supposed to leave, I won't, if it starts raining while riding I will continue---Friday was a 270 mile ride that was incredible.  The best part of the day was a long lunch break when I met two gentlemen on the ride and we had a great talk, the end of the day was equally enjoyable at the BBQ meeting even more new friends, it's not about the ride, it's about the people.

I left WI early yesterday and stopped to see our kids in Cedar Falls, IA and had lunch with them.  My Grand Daughter came running down the driveway to greet Grandpa, that was the best hug of the weekend Smile  Got to visit with the kids for two hours and check up on DIL who is carrying our soon to be born Grand Son.  They, like many on this forum, have had a very tough time with pregnancies, DIL is a very "high risk" but with great medical care we are praying this one will be successful.  We are thinking Labor Day weekend will truly be labor day.  My traveling days will be limited from this point on to no more than 200 miles from home, Grandpa's camera needs to be ready Thumbs Up

Good to be home and wake up with my best friend beside me.  We didn't even turn the TV on last night, we must have talked for 4 hours about our weekends and life.  Now, if I could just get her to mow when I'm gone................ Laugh

1249 wonderful miles since Thursday!

Mitch, thank you for the 4449 video.  I have had so many personal experiences around this engine that it is like old home week seeing her again.  I got a ride in her cab once for about a hundred miles and rode a deadheading train behind her for another 100 miles or so over Tehachapi and on to Fresno California when she was returning home after movie work in Southern California.  She looks good stuttin' her stuff back in your neck of the woods.

Thanks for the video of Portlands very own SP 4449! I have lived in the Portland area for over 12 years now and have yet to see her in person. Guess I should pay more attention to her activity schedule! Heck, had lived here for many years before I even knew that she called Portland home! Maybe I will be sure to catch her on the return leg!

Have a great Monday and a great week one and all!

Good afternoon Y'all!  Waiting to start a rather "big" case in a few moments.  Has been rather busy schedule lately.  That's OK, I enjoy the work.

Doug, we have had a few moments like that.  A couple happened when the music director left his Mac on behind the pastor/speaker.  In one, we had a high level guest speaker giving his message when this thing started chiming in over the system.  It happened a few months later to the pastor and he was not amused.  I had an incident on the lights.  Someone had been working under the board and left the power surge strip exposed.  We were in the middle of our music team, when I stepped on the power button.  Have you ever seen an entire row of Martin Lights suddenly shut down?  gives a spectacular light show.  Crowd thought it was intentional and part of the act.

Gotta run.

A Good Afternoon giz...

Well, the Highlight of the weekend was Saturday – but I digress...

Friday night went to Bike night, had a few burgers and a bottle of ...water!  Not much happening, so....Off to Saint Augustine (left at 8PM) took the expressway to A1A

(A1A runs North/South along the coast, through some undeveloped areas).  Fortunately,

I had the fullface helmet on and the bugs were thick.  Got through to St. Augustine, stopped on US 1, fueled up and ran North on US 1 to Jax. US 1 runs parallel with the FEC main line (nope, didn’t see a thing), nice ride, quiet and light traffic.  Was in the driveway at 10:15PM

Saturday was nice in the AM and got the bike washed and had a dyno run – which was upsetting as it showed 25HP (It’s at HD now for a check out pumping out 60 HP/65 ft/lb).  Rained like crazy just after the run, but the bike was safely tucked in the garage for the duration.  Had a few burgers and sodas, ran home between showers and did laundry (mine!).  Tried to get the train room re-organized, that got de-railed when the Mrs. came home.

Sunday spent the day under a Buick Century (older, FWD) had to drop the fuel tank and replace the fuel pump for the Princesses’ boy friend.  8 hours later – success!!  Runs and did all this with ¼ tank of fuel in it and on my back.  Geez, I’m sore...

Jon – sounds like a nice ride – wish I could’ve been there – saw the route I think you posted some time ago.

That’s all for now – bike is back with me and under cover – of course, it’s sprinkling now.

Afternoon all!

Small group of college friends reunion party was a big success...thanks Brutus and Tardis crew et al for cleaning up the leftovers (hooch included)!

Typically when we host a gathering something goes wrong.  WH goes out, Toilet backs up...this time the DW took a dump...again (that makes 4 and out).  Water condensed on the countertop, dipped down, and shorted the top mount controls, and circuit board.  We went to Lowe's yesterday and found a nice Bosch unit, that was delivered today.  I just finished installing it, and it's up and running.  Nice to get rid of the ticking bomb of a DW.

Jon / Rich:  I have set my sites on a Yamaha Virago 535 as a first street bike. (looks like a sportster) Bride OK'd the purchase, but will result in 'train restrictions for a year'.  After seeing Rich's bike at the wash, I may rethink this....Nice ride Rich!

Kurt--be patient and be smart, there are some GREAT buys out there and they will get even better Aug. 1.  Consider slightly used and for goodness sakes, don't get a bike that's too small and want to trade in a year or less especially if it's two up for you.  I think you told me you were going to take the MSF class, EXCELLENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Take the course first and then buy a bike, see if it is what you really want to do.  I took the course 4 years ago and that's after having my MC license since 1970, I never did let it lapse.  I learned a great deal from that class and am looking at taking the advance riders course.  When you get ready to buy let's talk because impulses can be overpowering

SP4449 ended up being very very late to Durand, MI this evening.  She was supposed to be there at 4pm and made Durand around 8:30pm.  I checked twitter while at a birthday party and realized I still had a shot to see her since she was so late and the party was between home and Durand.  We politley excused ourselves from the party

Here she is rolling through Durand on the way to TrainFestival:

Kurt - Gotta 2nd that!!  I'm wishing I would have waited...there is a Soft-tail for $10,595 here (Street Glide I think) with 7K miles and it is sweet!!  I'm a little buried in my Sporty, so I'll have to wait a bit.  I'm ganging up on the payments, so I'll be about even soon.  There is a 1200C - 2000 model in purple with 1700 miles on it for $4995.  So, look, be patient and you too will be getting your bike cleaned!!!

The best riding weather up north is usually late August to Last part of October.  It's cool and crisp and a blast to rumble through some of the less traveled roads with yer buds...!

Jim S.,

I bought a 322AC on Friday from Marty's Trains on ebay. I got it for $119 before shipping. If you do a completed items search for "hudson", it'll show up. It needs the eccentric rod on the left side, so I placed an order online with Doug from Portlines. I also got some link couplers so that I can complete the 718 mail car that I bought on Christmas Eve.

Looks like more rain is headed our way tonight. Went to the Monday staff meeting. And yes, the engineer who has my pressure gauge is on vacation.

cnwdoug - my internet connection at home is a little slow to really appreciate the wechoosethemoon site, but from what I've seen it looks pretty neat. Hard to believe that when this happened the MGB was rolling down the production line.

Jim and Jim - you might be interested to know that I found a 302 on fleaBay for a very good price. It needs a little help (kind of like me recently:), but that's the way I seem to like 'em. Who's a good source for parts for AF?

Put a new battery in the Jeep today. My long term battery test came to an end. Was fine this morning and then acted up on me later, a lot like when I had to clean up the terminals a few months ago. Should have replaced it then, but the battery has gone so long (came from the factory in June 2001) I was curious to see how long it would go. So the end result is 8 years, 1 month. Guess I shouldn't yell at the jeep too much then. The guys at British Car Service carry Interstates, so I was able to R & R it myself in a short time. I think that was my exercise for the day though.

Low 80's headed for mid 90's later in the week.  Rain heading in from the west too.  Not dissapointed 'cause we could use a little.

There are some better scenes of the Hogwarts Express in the new Harry Potter movie.  Finally determined that it has five coaches.  Good footage of it pulling into the station too.  The theater we saw the movie in had a great sound system.  As the locomotive pulled through the frame, the sound continued into the rear of the theater.  Neat effect.

Doug - interesting comment that the buildings on the Chicago model you had pictures of recently were made on a rapid prototype machine.  I recently discovered that my company has one of these machines in the corporate office.  I've been using it on a regular basis to check the 3d surface work I'm doing on some of my more complex pieces of tooling.  Sure is quicker and cheaper than finding an oops while carving on a chunck of tool steel!

That is it for now.

Evening all. Going to run trains for a while. Watched the moon landing re-done at 300ish CST. It was cool listening and watching to it again in real time. I don't remember the original. Kurt, enjoy your bike search! My bride would die before I got one. They're expensive to insure here and of course, the driving season is relatively short. Maybe someday I'll talk her into a Vespa Wink

In all my travels all over the USA to Bass Pro Shops and Cabela's, my wife has always insisted that I call her the minute the plane landed at each airport.  I always said, "Tranquility Base to Houston, the Eagle has landed."  People sitting next to me, not knowing my last name, would always look.

Meetings over and home for rest.  Have a good night and sleep tight.

8nt - Good news, can't wait to see that movie anyway but this will just make it all the better.  They had a shot of the station at Hogwarts in the last movie too, and I think you saw the engineer for a second?

Read all the posts today, but it's just a blur now, lol!

Prayers for all, always!

No trains today, but did have nice talks with RT, SJ, Doug and Charlie Thumbs Up  Doug has a speed demon 520 that was chasing Percy around!  Did not get to Thomas again today - hope to do so tomorrow though.  Just had a blah day.  Glad it is over - on to the next one Smile

Beacons are on the screen and I've got the controls, so here we go Laugh

In all my travels all over the USA to Bass Pro Shops and Cabela's,

Chief, you still travel for them guys? When I lived in CT, I was HEAVY into Bass fishing. Had a Skeeter with a 140 on it. Back then BASS limit was 140. Ah, the good old days. Plus there was only ONE Bass Pro Shops (Springfield)! Now they are opening a new one in the next couple years up in my hometown area, Buffalo! Sold my rig when I moved to Oregon since Salmon and Sturgeon plus Trout far out wiegh Bass, Crappie, Perch and all the other East of the Rockies favorites! Hard to teach a kid to fish when there are no "Panfish" around to feed worms too!Sigh

Chief, you ever hear of a guy named Rich Zaleski? He was a good aqaintance of mine back in CT. Used to write for In Fisherman Magazine alot back then.

Hope everyone has a GREAT Tuesday!

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI (for all the new people and those using the home version of the 'pot, that stands for "It is another beautiful sunny day in south east Indiana) with temps in the 70s.  Practiced with "my" soccer girls and did weights at the YMCA.  Got trash together and went to bed early.  Slept well.  I had streusel and cereal for breakfast on the dining car this morning.  Beacon is lit for after soccer practice tonight.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Aloha. Nice morning here. Nice evening running trains virtually with Sir J, Brutus, Charlie and RT. Interesting how 520 tolerates rough trackwork without a care that stops Thomas. Boy is the former a speed demon. Even ran the 248 before realizing it, like me, needed lubrication. Hope to find that steamer when it comes back through Chicago next week.

Morning.  One inch of rain.  Got to go get 4 Runner alignment and rotation.  Sears is the cheapest.  Then probably drive east to Mom's for a visit.  Moving slow this AM.  Was watching hunting on Outdoor Channel and went to sleep.  Was hunting muleys in Wyoming and woke up to coyotes in Kansas.  Oh well.

BPS and Cabela's are not doing much now due to economy.  I also cut back when I became Mayor as time was limited to be gone.  Also got tired of flying and staying in hotels.  Was fun for a while.

Have a great day.
