Dougdagrump, l think it was 98 over here yesterday.  Hot again today and is probably about the same.  Roof inspector came and wants conduit over roof in rear to be secured.  I want it too.  Roofer will do this afternoon.

Car went in the shop today for automatic door actuator in right hand door.  Cost $300 to fix. Ouch!  Got a rental car in leiu of a ride home at dealers expense but had to work for it. Picked up and taken to Enterprise office to sign paper work.  Then told car was not at that location and had to be taken to another location about 5 miles away to get car.  Then sign your life away for a lousy one day rental.  Next time, they can keep it and I will insist on them giving me a ride home.

Chief, more prayers for Pam.

Jack, I'm sure these wonderful guys on here will take care of us at York.  If you beleive that, I have a bridge I will sell you in Brooklyn.

Back to car dealer now and turn in rental car.

Later, Ray

Dougdagrump I remember going to the San Diego zoo but its been a few years ago. Don't think the model railroad club was there then as I would of stopped in to see If I could of. I was in san Diego for usn "A" and then 4 years later for "C" school. Lets see A school was 1975 and C school was 1979 lol . so just a few years ago. I went to the zoo when in A school when I was in C school brother was there in his C school he was down at the I think its 32st base or was it 16thst I don't remember I was up at NTC/RTC base.

Hey all just got back from grocery shopping . I get to see my doc Thursday and want to see if he will take me off all meds and see how I do as I seem to remember never having any of these problems till I was on them My cholesterol is ( or was ) down to acceptable for non cardiac patients and its getting to be debatable that I'm actually a cardiac patient. the blood thinner/blood pressure meds as I been running normal for quite a while and I don't remember being high blood pressure before all this. I always had normal or real close and the 3rd is a cardiac type medication. I've been getting the statements your fine you need to lose weight but other than that your fine. the pains I get they now say are not angina so I'm going to a chest pain clinic to figure out what it is in fact they went as far as to say there not cardiac pains at all.

Anyway hope Brutus father is doing better prayers out and SJ's wife is getting over her cold. Oh can't forget rich down in FL with the Stones problem prayers out for you too bud. Oh and we cannot forget our mayors wife pam really hope the best for her I hope all turns out fine.AngelAngelAngelAngel

Good afternoon,

Dennis, Take the Chief''s advice, April in PA is very unpredictable.

Yes, I know you sneaky Yanks.  Get him up there and freeze him.

Chief, Prayers for Pam, my youngest daughter (Pam also) had the same problem and had to have her's killed.

She told the Dr., "No."  He put her on a very low dosage of meds.

If all goes as planned will see you guys on Thursday.

I am posting this from my new netbook as I am setting it up with all my favorite sites.

Bringing my laptop.

Off to Town Board.

I really do hope Dennis and that old Tar Heel have a great time in Yankee Land--sure hope the Grits detector is operating, hate to think PA will be infested, kinda makes me shudder. Chief--thanks for taking the laptop, it's fun for the rest of us to read the comments and reactions. Have fun!

Thanks for the words of wisdom guys.  I will bring along a jacket I got at the Grand Canyon....talk about temperature differences!  I also made sure I ate a few Egg salad sandwiches with pickles just for good measure.  I will bring along my iTouch in case I can pick up the WiFi.  Mostly packed.  Had the Mommy duties as wife worked today.  Now to get to bed.  0230 comes quickly.  I plan on leaving at 0300.

God Bless,

Dennis

Dennis plans on arriving here around 12 or 12:30 tomorrow.  That means I can sleep till 8 or so. Approve [Lucy cooperating] Shock  Now for some popcorn [have not had any since Friday last week].  Town Board went extra long.  One woman came and talked and talked and we had already worked out her problem.  Oh well, she thinks she did a good job.

Evening all.

Looks like we will be getting a string of reasonable weather here.  Partly cloudy, with temperatures climbing to 80 by Saturday.

Filled up the tank on the biofuel lawnmower tonight with cashew chicken and broccoli beef and got the lawn mowed.  Last week's rain sure made it healthy.

Safe travels to those going to York.  Prayers to all with health issues.

Nothing much going on with the train stuff.  I'm spending extra time in the office, as most of this work week is lost to meetings, and I'm taking vacation Friday.

Sorry guys - running late and out of steam.  Prayers for Pat, Pam, Jack's family, Rich (Yikes - I've been there and done that twice now), and all others in need of prayers!  Safe trips for those that are going, too!

Yep - Dad went to ER yesterday with shortness of breath and he has congestive heart failure on top of COPD and bronchitis Sad  Doc says he must quit smoking.  Wife is doing a lot better, will see doctor on Thursday.  Sister, who had a heart problem a couple weeks ago, is doing a lot better too.  These things go in threes, right?  Time for me to try parachuting or something, I should be safe for a good while!

Tardis runs on recycled cans - using Mr. Fusion, lol!  Don't throw out the fuel!  Okay, Mike's driving, we'll be by to get yuz guys.  I'll try and catch up on the pot and other stuff tomorrow - just been stressed out and can't focus on stuff these past few days.  TTFN and God Bless us all.

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Good early morning RT and all.

This is a normal time for me to be up and about. Not only is this the best time of the day, things start early on the farm. Fed the animals at day break, had breakfast (unfortunately no Grits todayDisapprove) and waiting for my son to come down so we can put a new muffler on the tractor and mend some fences.

Thought about going to York but hard to get away this time of the year. Cows got out twice this week, glad I was here. Mike (my son) can handle most problems, but the cows know me, not him, so easier for me to lead them back into the fields. Oct. is better, so planning on going to York thenThumbs Up. How about you RT, and the rest of you stay at homes?

Brutus - Do we need to keep the Tardis at the ready so we can respond quickly to distress calls form the York group - bail money, stop Reb/Yank fights, treat Grit overload, Etc?

Good Morning from the Heartlands!  Another beautiful day on tap, mid 70's today and 80's tomorrow, YES!  I was out and about yesterday and noticed the farmers working at high speed getting corn in the ground, this is without a doubt my favorite time of year.

I envy all of you attending York, what a great time.  I suppose it's best that we live exactly 1000 miles to the fairgrounds, if it was just a one day drive I would be there twice a year.  Our trains meets are non existent in this area, we used to drive over to Omaha once a year but now it's also gone.

We continue to look for furniture for our new 4 seasons room, I'm at the point of saying let's just fill it up with a nice big layout, 16 x 16 would work well for me Banged Head   I absolutely hate looking at material, glad to have our DIL here this weekend so son and I can go to the Woodsmith Store while they look at material!

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 50s (eventually).  Supposed to be nice and warm by the end of the week.  We'll see.  Work was a disaster again.  Did play soccer with the Brazilian again.  Doug M., I know you like soccer as well as others on the pot.  Unfortunately, there does not seem to be the interest for it in my neck of the woods, and the two people who seem to be the most involved in it live in Norway and will be soon back in Brazil :-(   Felt lousy again last night, did the bare minimum and went to bed early.  Prayers going out to those who need them.  Beacon is lit for after the high school soccer tonight.  I had the regular fare on the dining car this morning.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mornin' Fellas

I live about 45 - 60 minutes from York and have often said if anyone needs a bed to let me know. I only go on Friday, but if I had a visitor I could possibly swing Thursday - Saturday. Wink

Getting prepped for York.

SusieQ has composed her 'project' list for the year. Have to measure, draft some plans, and then go get some parts quotes so she can deside what she wants to spend her money on. I buy any tools I need for the projects and some little stuff - she supplies all the major components. Thumbs Up The one project I hope we can swing is to replace one section of our deck with Trex (or other composite) decking and then screen it in. Then next year we will do the other portion of the deck and have french doors installed to get to the screened in porch (unless we can do that this year). Susan landed a PT job as an online instructor so she's using that extra income to do some home improvements - I get to supply the labor. Three projects that we know we definitely need to do... before Summer we need to install a solar powered gable vent fan, then before Fall we need to install new garage doors (this will be done professionally) and insulate the last wall of the garage, and finally install a fireplace insert. IF we can do all that we should be set for a nice Summer, Fall and Winter.

Well I better get started with work... have to get some data imported today so another department can get their end-of-month processing started. TTYL.

Prayers raised for Brutus, Sir James, Rich, and Chief... hope I didn't miss anyone.

Brutus .... I feel for you .... sounds like too much hitting you all at the same time . Just relax ... I'm praying for your dad and sisiter .... maybe the man will hear me and things will probably get better .

Lionroar ..... garage door talk brings back a bad memory years ago when one of my 7 .... yes 7 brother - in laws had me help him tear apart one of those older G-door openers with that huge spring . That thing broke loose ... flew inches from our heads ... went through a shelf of stuff busting everything and took out the garage window !!!!!!  Almost be-headed both of us ! Shock Really a nightmare ... LOL . I have to get a new keyboard ... sticking keys from grand daughters spilt coke making me edit the heck out of everything ....  Angry

Good morning

The weather is still overcast and 40s right now. I am looking forward to the promised 81s. We shall see.

Prayers for all who are ailing. It sure seems to be a whole heap of em. For a small group we seem to get more than our share of sickness.

York day is near so all have fun and stay safe. Keep an eye out for those foriegn license plates though. Some could contain grits which is well know to be hazardous to your health.

Eggs, hash and wheat toast for breakfast, tummy feels good.

Hi Brent......personally, I think the composite decking is the way to go.  While expensive, the financial and functional advantages over the long haul are many.  It always looks new.  It doesn't wear out.  Strong for large gatherings and us plumper folks.  The textures and colors continue to expand.  Washing/rinsing is a snap.  If the supports, footings, and house attachment headers are done correctly, you'll be dead and buried long before your deck.  No sealing or staining.  No slivers for the barefoot folks.  Plus when/if you sell or move, prospective buyers will be wowed.

That being said, I am on year 18 with a 16' x 14' redwood deck and am looking for a crew to refinish it.....sanding decking and ballisters, and clear resealing,   The redwood has held up, no rotting and minimal cupping.  The pressure treated foundation pieces look brand new.  And the redwood flooring, secured with headless glue coated threaded nails, has remained secure as well, no resetting of screws or nails necessary.  We've had many get togethers with 25 or more on the deck, no issues.  One thing I insisted upon on the front end was 12 inch centers instead of 16 inch for the underlying on-edge support framing.  We also made the deck nearly level with the first floor for handicapped access from the house (no stepdown).  Access to the BBQ grill, no stepdown.  Drawback: snow, ice and drifts make it imperative to keep the deck clear during  the winter (so you can open the door and let the dogs out to the yard),  Also may give you space for under the deck storage.......some hinged lattice work and you are set to go.  I store my ladders there.

Like you, we had planned to put in french doors and a screened-in expansion portion onto the existing deck from the DR, but children and other priorities and expenses always seemed to intervene.  The screened-in portion is one thing we would have used to death for 3 seasons of the year, every year.  An alternative to a full blown 3 season porch is one of the powered deck awnings with the drop down screens.  Reasonably priced.  Everything rolls back up and stows up at the touch of a button.  With covers.  Bite the bullet and don't delay on the screened-in idea or you will wind up like me thinking about it 20 years down the line.

Re the solar powered gable fan.....I've had thermostatically controlled roof and gable fans.  They are great to evacuate all of that hot air from attic space in the hot spells, for example, and help hold down the A/C costs.  But in this home I took another approach:  a 36 inch louvered "whole house fan" mounted in the ceiling in the second floor hallway, on a rheostat for speed control.  I doubled the attic floor insulation for the putrid days when only A/C would do.  The fan draws or pulls in fresh air from the outside through open windows and screen doors and pushes the attic space hot air out through soffit vents, peak venting, and/or gable venting.  Literally gets the draperies and sheers moving by the open windows, lots of fresh air movement.  Will evacuate 2000 square feet of living area in about 4 minutes.  You won't be tempted to use the A/C nearly as much as you think.  Smoke from cooking faux pas or cigar smoking guests, no problem,  New paint smells, no problem.  Dog smells, no problem.  Have a ton of guests running in and out of the house at your BBQ on the 95 degree days, no problem.   "Delicate wife" tested and recieved her seal of approval.  Most of these are belt driven and reasonably priced (got a Kenmore).  I'm still on the original belt after 20 years!  The rheostat is the only thing that had to be replaced for $11.95.

Now get to work on the honey do list!

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a cool and cloudy 41 degrees. Only going up to 52 today with a chance of more rain.

Today is a less busy day. I have a few things to do, around the house, and then I will relax. Right leg is a little achy from yesterday.

Doug Murphy...Happy Anniversary to you and the wife.

Dining car was here for breakfast. Had the usual.

Y'all have a great Wednesday.

Darn, wish I knew this earlier.

Got married 20 years ago today - sure got lucky.

Six days and it's number 37 for me.  I married UP too.

Before the downturn in the economy, we got a few quotes for rebuilding our deck with composite products.  Was more than we could justify even then.  Turned out to be a good decision to just redo it myself as we had to replace the french doors going out to the deck last summer.  Lousy seal around window let water in and bottom of original fixed door had rotted away.  Had to replace front entry door and side light panels a couple years earlier.
