Hi guys - worked 6 hours of OT today and supposed to work again next week, but off Thursday and Friday due to kids off school, so not sure it will be allowed.  Could use the $$$.  Cool this morning, but warmed up nicely to the mid 60's I guess.  Bought so artificial steel wool to try and buff off the last images of letters on my cheap-o gondola.  If I charged myself by the hour, I'd already have bought a bunch of freight cars, that's for sure!  Course, this way I keep the money and the train car.  Not sure what's going on - we were supposed to meet friends to take all the kds to the pumpkin patch, but apparently Dave D had to work OT today as well.  He's an HVAC guy so sometimes gets called and works long long hours, esp when weather is changing.  Lots of good conversation lately, but don't really have anything to add.  TTFN!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

HI GIZ,

2nd day o Chris.... of YORK over and done.  Spent all afternoon friday there and filled all the orders by my principal and brother.   Today my wife and I spent the day there.  Tookm wife Christmas shopping for me and I think she did real good?   I finally got mt Kline Starlite diner and also picked up a few military cars from GELLER TRAINS out of NJ.  I also go the Kline military GIZ, and also these highly detailed WWII GIZ that are done in peuter.  6 GIZ for 25 bucks but WOW they are awesome.  Getting on the ladies mail list and will start collecting these now.

GREAT meeting with all DA GIZ!!!!!   Nice actually spending time and talking to one another.  Wish we weren't so rushed with all this train stuff to see that it would have been great to hang out and have a couple of beers and run trains or something.   Maybe one of these times?

MITCH, sorry again about those ears but ya know its the YORK picture?  Got a nice sign though?  NO GRITS.  Love it.  Wait til APRIL at YORK, MITCH and I are a scheming?

One last thing,  LIONEL was a real disappoinment as far as having the Legacy there.  They did have the BIG BOY but I think most of us wanted to see the thing work.  Did however see the MTH SILVER BULLET TRAIN,  It is pretty neat if you can get past the music of the comercial?  It will stop and by DSC press a button and the doors of the reefer will open and all this smoke comes rushing out, I guess to simulate the coldness of the reefer?  I asked the guy and he said it will have 4 cars that will do this.  Along with a caboose.  It plays the song LOVE TRAIN, I think by the SPINNERS?  Just my two cents.

Have agood one.

Sounds like a nice York. I kinda like the idea of that Silver Bullet Train.
I have a recent Williams GG1 and it pulls like a mule.

Chuck, that sounds great. I am currently browsing for old Erecta overhead wire sets by Bowser - Bill Culliton, the dean of trolley modelers in my opinion, recommends their kit.

What a week! One of the best in a LONG time! We left York about 2:15 yesterday after the group pic and headed west, ended up in Milan, OH for the night, just about right. Very uneventful day of travelling today except for very heavy rains and big winds just as we left Illinois.

I'll try and write tomorrow and post some pics of purchases. I just can't tell you how much we enjoyed PA before the meet and then the actual meet for two days for us, it's amazing, it's a train meet on steroids to be sure.

Sure fun to meet to the CTT forum guys, NEXT time I'd love to have a few cold ones with yuz giz!!!!

Had a long day and week.  I am on call and got slammed.  After the emergency today, I actually had a meal with the family at Cracker Barrel, then on to Honey Do list.  I mowed the yard and started to paint the back drop.  Will be heading up to do the second coat of paint tonight and then to bed.  I need a few pieces of lumber to finish the benchwork and then it will be time to lay bed and track.  I can hardly believe I am this far, yet it seems to be taking forever to finish.

One note, Cracker Barrel has those ceramic models of the store that are about our scale and would look good on any layout.  I got mine last year for Christmas.  Also, Big Lots has some great looking Mr. Christmas Carousels for $49.00.  They also have some ceramic buildings.

Have a great night

To bad you didn't make it to York.  I'm just glad they only happen twice a year or I would have to go back to work.

Good evening all,

It was a beautiful and sunny day in SE Indiana with temps in the 60s.  I did housework and yardwork today.  I did run the 10E a little bit, but it was too cool in the attic.  Tomorrow will be miserable, weather-wise.  I did stop by Hobby Lobby Friday night and picked up a Southwestern Freight expansion set with the 40% off coupon.  It was listed at the catalog price of 109.99 so it was a good deal.  Maybe tomorrow I will get to run the new equipment.  I also got my December issue of the CTT today, and got the TCA magazine on Friday so it has been a good train week.

Lucas had a good time at the dance Friday night and he has a girlfriend now as well.  My wife has been working as a sub again as well.

I hope everyone has a good weekend.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Hi Buckeye !! No, I never found too much at Big Lots before, I was just looking there today, as Dennis is always mentioning the stuff he gets there !!  He said they had a ferris wheel there & I was looking for it, but our store doesn't seem to have anything like that !! They didn't even have any of our diecast cars.

Sounds like a GREAT IDEAEER JOHN,  I'm in for a great FRIDAY nite somewhere in YORK or HARRISBURG or LANCASTER or somewhere in between?  It would be a really great thing to do, but we would probably get kicked out of the place for having too much FUN?

Buckeye,

No we didn't see Laz's bear, it's probably the only thing we didn't see while there! Just a tremendous week and we are already talking about what we would like to see next time. I was glad we took the extra time before the meet but we could have stayed even longer, so much to see that we didn't have enough time. Not sure when the next time will be but there will be a next time and that's a fact. Need to get some pics of purchases after breakfast, our bed felt awfully good after 7 nights of motels.

Good morning - we were over at some friends late last night just playing board games and having some good fellowship.  Up this morning and made pancakes for the kids.  Need to work on the basement today and maybe have time to finish cleaning that gondola, which has taken a long time.  Bid on some stuff on ebay - hope I win!  Sounds like you guys had a lot of fun meeting at York.  TTFN

Sorry you didn't see Laz's bear, which is considered one of the major attactions in PA. Big Smile [:D]

On your next trip, try the Chicago, Indianapolis, Columbus, and Wheeling route.  Some great train stores and layouts can be found along the way.

Good afternoon,

I finally got on shutterfly, but it still seams slow, must be signing up to many customers.  I posted to pictures of the new scale GG-1 on SPF.

Deputy, At least I think it was you that asked about pulling power.  I haven't used the new one to pull anything yet so can't say, but as it has traction tires and weighs over 5 pounds it should pull.  I have a short one just like Chuck's and that one has plenty of pulling power.  I normally had it pulling 6 Williams madison cars and an express reefer.  Acted like nothing was coupled to it.

Chief, I had an interesting event happen.  When I got up this morning my remote thermometer for the greenhouse was reading 39 degrees.  It goes into alarm when it hits 37 so it was close.  When I checked, the pilot was out in my gas heater, which I had set at 50 degrees, just to keep the stuff that I am wintering over from freezing at night.  I have a backup electric heater that I had set 10 degrees lower and that had kicked in.  Outside temp was about 35.  Any way I have not been able to get the pilot relighted.  I think it blew out during some heavy wind we had Friday and I didn't notice it since the temps were rather warm yesterday.  Will try again later and if no go will have to call for service. Sad [:(]Thumbs Down [tdn]

Chuck, Layout progress looking good.

John, Donuts look good but I will have to pass, on diet since last Dr. visit.

Laz, When it gets closer to the time for Spring York we will have to pick a spot, jsut stay away from TGI-Fridays.  That is where the OGR crowd gathers and we don't want to start a riot. Big Smile [:D]

Mike C., Glad to hear Lucas's life is getting back to normal.

Tom, I asked this on the SPF thread but will repeat here, what did you use for roads on the museum tinplate layout? I like them.

John, What did you use to make the blacktop roads?

Jon,  You made good time on the way home, glad you had a safe trip.  It sure is nice to sleep in your own bed after a trip away from home.

Doug, are there sites dedicated to traction modelers?  I did notice OGR has one but doesn't look to active.

That is a long post, guess I covered everything.

On my roads in town, I used Woodland Scenics road system Top Coat asphalt # st1453 . I  just wanted to get a road down quick & on homosote, it's very pourous, so it would probably be better to use some sub floor of some sort !

Also, Shutterfly was working ok for me earlier.

Thanks, John

John, I'm all electric.  May one day run a natural gas line out there.  When I built the greenhouse, we had propane and it was from a only company in town company [high $$$$].  Now the town has natural gas and is cheaper.  Mine run 50 to 70 [a little on the high side] but will probably drop it to 45 to 60.   When starting seeds, love it to be 70 at the top at night.  Then daytime usually runs up to 90 in the spring [where exhaust fan comes on to cool].  Of to In-law's to get power tools.

Afternoon All,

Wow John, you must have used a cheat sheet to be able to answer all those questions. There is no way in whatsits I could remember all that. Blush [:I]

Got a quick question for all you guys that use or have used the Lionel 027 remote control switches. For the halloween layout I was thinking of a single line with a reverse loop at each end. However before I finalize I need to find out if the aforementioned switches have the "Anti-Derailing Feature" the same as their "O" big brothers have. Confused [%-)]

Doug,  I usually open up the forum and read the posts, then open up another copy and post my reply.  That way I can switch over and reread anything I want to.  BTW I don't know the answer to your 027 question, last time I used 027 switches was to build a layout for grandson in CO a couple of years ago.

Chief, I use propane, which is still cheaper than electric in our area.  There are a lot of distributors in our area, I buy from one about 30 miles away that specializes in serving the Amish community.  They use a lot of propane to power things that we use electric for. Question [?]

Mitch, I am going to print your post out and hang it on the wall.  Thumbs Up [tup]  Thumbs Up [tup]
