Morning Gents
Below is a couple of photos from the Arizona Rail Fest

Speaking of cars, I had an old 55 Ford, and needed to rebuild the carburator, I had the carb setting on a workbench, while I was at work my younger brother thought it would really look cool if it was painted competition orange.  So he painted it inside and out.  Needless to say I wasn't real happy.  Just one of many helpful events. Mornin' All, Beautiful day here other than the "Red Flag Warnings"  due to warm dry weather and the Santa Ana winds.

I sure hope all the Yorkies are house broken, don't want any accidents on the carpet. Sad [:(] I know, tacky humor but I couldn't resist.

For the non-attendees in the Chicago area I saw a posting about a train show/exhibit in your area. An "O" club has a 60'x70'  exhibit set up, I am assuming it is a modular set-up. If anyone goes and it is allowed bring back some photos.

On another thread Don was asking about info at York on the NEW Big Boy but what about big boy & big girl in Mn, haven't heard from them for a very long time. With winter setting in hopefully we will see some updates on THE basement layout.

In closing,

Happy Birthday Roy !!!!!!!!

Luther - try the Z-Stuff relay, its AC.  Its made to mount with their switch machine but it can be used separately and monted under the layout.  Whenever I need a signal relay I've used them.

Don, wish I could afford a diesel like that, and the trackage, for the yard.  With the timber I'd need to clear I could build the trestles I'd need.

I wonder what the wife would say.Sigh [sigh]

Don - nice pics - I wish I had a bazillion dollars, I'd live in a compound with a 1/3 scale railroad on it etc!  Cold and rain in Arnold and St. Louis today and Jeff is out sick - was watching some Amtrack this morning over in the rail yard.  Construction continues and I wonder if they are building a new train station?  Need to play with the track again tonight.  Last night I scrubbed my gondola for a while with a toothbrush in the Simple Green.  A lot of the paint has come off now, but it's been 2 weeks.  You can still see the lettering even on the one side that is almost entirely the base red color, so I think it was stamped on - I'll get some super fine sandpaper and go over it.  My daughter was coloring the wood pieces we bought to represent tanks of goo for the Halloween set with a brown marker last night.  She asked me why we don't just make our own train.  I said that would be fun.  Turns out she means locomotive and all....  Hmmm, that might be VERY cool!  I need to get some more books.  I ordered a used copy of the older Lionel book from a couple years ago for $4 and I won 2 dump cars and 2 short gondolas on ebay for a total of about $7 (I think the number on the dump cars was 9030 or something?)  I looked em up in the guide and that was a fair price.  They look pretty cheesy, but just wait until I get them painted up and full or eyeballs and tiny skulls, pumpkins etc.

Anyway - you guys have fun at York and the rest of us will just try and keep the forum going for a couple days without you, waiting for all the pics!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Luther: ROFL! Big Smile [:D]  I was in the green machine from 1967-70. Yeah...I edited the third "S" for content. And I DID partake in that third "S" immediately after finishing off the Sonic breakfast burrito and tater tots. Wink [;)]

Doug: Very cool car and pretty rare nowadays. They command a premium price, especially in good condition and with options like Super Bee or 6-Pack.

Well I'm back to playing stanley steamer. Steaming wallpaper off the living room wall. I have my ear tuned to UPS trucks in case one of my train orders arrives.

Not too much to report here at midday. No walk again today. Too busy. I really need to get out there as my waistline is expanding too far.

I've noticed that train prices are slowly starting to climb on eBay as the weather gets cooler. Looks like bargain season might be over for another year. But you never know . . .

I have to work up the motivation to remove the wall paper in my wife's bathroom. It looks aweful from her long showers. Why I agreed to put it up in the first place is beyond me.

Back to work.

Good Afternoon........................

I have shimmed the supports on snowy mountain and am waiting for the glue to dry. Then, I can put the first level in place. That is the one , that will have the upper level tracks on it.

I got my December issue of CTT today. Seems early in the month. But, I am glad as , now , I have something new to read.

Later,  Chuck

Jim: Wallpaper in bathrooms is never a good idea. Especially with the steam. As a matter of fact, I am using a Wagner wallpaper steamer to remove my wallpaper. Works really good. Much better than any of those chemical methods. I'm tracking a 682 Lionel loco and tender on E-Bay. I hate it when 1 minute before the bid ends and the vultures jump in and drive the price through the roof. Sad [:(]

Chuck: All my magazine reading takes place in the bathroom...or library, as I refer to it. Smile [:)]
I had a bit of a panic attack today when my VISA card company called and said they cancelled an order I had placed for train stuff yesterday. Security reasons was what they said. I told them next time CALL ME FIRST before cancelling an order. I called back Western Depot and re-activated my order. Grrrrr Angry [:(!]

Hmmm, Cars, my dad had a 1964 Chevelle Super Sport with a 327 shortblock.  He used to drive it out to Long Island and race and then drive it back to Jersey.  Was a super fast car and he had a switch on the dash that would turn all the lights in the back of the car offWink [;)] for when his friends in blue would pursue.  I miss that car.  He also had a 57 Olds that he modified the engine and frame, would lift the front wheels off the ground  when he popped the clutch.

For those going to York, I got a advertisement on the computer from Trainworld for a coupon to use at York.  Sorry, I deleated it, but if you check before you go, you may be able to get one and use it.

Big Lots down here has the Mr. Christmas Carousel for $49.00.  It is impressive and much better than Lionel's, though the footprint is  a bit larger.  Also, if you check in the back crafts section, they have bags of small rocks that are about the right size for ballast and also some for Talus.  Worth checking out.

I've always used a spray bottle filled with hot tap water to remove wall paper. It's always worked well for me.

Good luck with that 682! I just looked it over. You a post war fan, Dep?

Jim

They have a item called a "Tiger Paw" that you swirl in circles on the wall paper, it makes small perforations in the paper and allows the water to get under the paper, makes it easier.  Also, I add some TSP (Tri Sodium Phosphate) to the water and it helps release the glue.

Good Luck, I can't say removing wall paper is one of my favorite things.

Like spring here but no York today, my truck wouldn't shift out of low gear & no speedo. Shop said it's the speed sensor on the tranny.
Soooo, I called Jim Sutter & ordered some MTH target signals for the layout.

Have a great day guys!

dwiemer: 1964 Chevelle...also very cool. Here's an interesting note...one of the first of only 201 1965 Chevelles with the RPO Z16 option (396 engine) was given to Dan Blocker (Hoss Cartwright) of TV's Bonanza.

jaabat: I started out with a sponge and hot water but it got too messy. The Wagner steamer gets very hot and leaves no drippy mess. Well...very little drips.

DOH! Leave my 682 alone!!! Hehehe. Big Smile [:D] I'm gonna play vulture this time and try and grab it just before the end of bidding. I'm a big Pennsy/NYC fan more than any particualr period of Lionel. I do like the postwar stuff, but most of it is way too pricey for me. Fortunately, the S2 turbines aren't all that popular, so they don't go too high.

dwiemer: Yep...I used that perforator gizmo with the chemicals but it didn't work worth a dang. Used it with the steamer and it worked okay. Today I just used the steamer with no perforations and it still works great. Living room is done. Just have kitchen and bathroom to do. Whew!

Almost done putting the kitchen back together.  Been painting it the last three days, lots and lots of trim to mask before I could paint.  Even had to mask the wood trim around the flourescent light over the island before I could paint the ceiling.  My back feels like I have been run over.  Karen doesn't want the old light fixture that was over the kitchen table put back up so its off to the lighting stores tomorrow.  (Would much rather be at York tomorrow, but not going was my choice.)  Still have to paint the walls in the small entrance way from the garage, ceiling already done, thank goodness. The computer I am typing this on is on the desk in the kitchen so once I got it all back together, I decided to sit and read this pot for a while.

Never had a real hot rod car, closest I ever got was a 68 Olds Cutlass, 350 four barrel, automatic.  It was okay, but murder on the back.  Changed the fuel filter on the carburetor one day.  Bad idea, the threads came out with the holder, had to buy another carburetor.

My December CTT came in todays mail too.  Look forward to reading it later.

Karen says kitchen looks real nice and doesn't want to mess it up by cooking. Painting might not have been a good thing either.  Oh, she put something in the oven.  Well, time to go eat.

Good afternoon Everyone !!

My new Dec. issue of CTT came today, too !! Can't wait to get back to work tomorrow to start reading it !! Big Smile [:D]Big Smile [:D]

Pual : ( Penn Valley ) That's awful you had to miss York for the transmission failure. At least you have an order in now  !!

Dr John : Haven't seen a 79 Corvette yet in 1/43rd, but here's a 1969 I picked up about a month ago in Erie Pa. This is a little Covette only model shop & sells only Corvette models & related stuff. I only paid 4 dollars for this one & I got a couple others in different years for around 4 or 5 dollars also. I'll see this weekend if they have any more & what years they are !!

Well, off to the Pullman Diner now !!

Thanks, John

I sure miss that Charger. Funny we all like / had these nice cars - probably because the only people who can afford toy trains can / used to be able to afford such cars. Today is quite the day: broke off a headlight trying to replace the lamp. Washer broke with a full tub of water and clothes....

Doug, that big train show has been advertised all over the place here in Chicago -- - it's more of a hobby show - and more HO and G by perusing the sponsor list - still trains is trains.

Was surprised to get the Dec CTT today too.
Jim, If I had a bazillion dollars, I would prefer a W. Kimball-esque full-scale train layout in the yard. Very Nice car, Dep.

Thanks for the compliments guys. I just wish I could go back to work on her. She's collecting dust in storage Sad [:(]

On a brighter note...I just ordered this beast:

Lionel 6-11105 New York Central L2 Mohawk

I have a request to make of you experts...I am looking for a loco made by Lionel called a Pennsylvania M1a. It was shown in the 2003 Vol 1 catalog. I've looked everywhere online, but haven't found one for sale. I prefer NOT to use E-Bay. It would be beyond my E-Bay limit as far as how much I would risk. If you guys know of an oinline source for this loco please let me know.

Thanks in advance,
Dep

They have plenty of pictures if you use the database, which is handy & you can look for almost anything most of the manufacturers made . Plus a wishlist for if you're looking for something. Oh, are you a TCA member ? ! I'm not now but was years ago.

Deputy,

I have this engine, it is a beauty.  The RS 5.0 is great too.

As for a Lionel M1a, these engines were blown out a while ago.  Might take a while to find one, but usually anything one is looking for is available eventually.
