Well, no walk today as it's still rainy out there.

I've been looking for a 2037 to paint pink for my daughter, as she wants a girl's train. But instead, I've pretty much decided to use one of our starter set 4-4-2s. The one I have in mind was given to us by a family friend. It was his kid's from sometime in the early 90's. It has the feedwater tank on the front of the boiler. I think it will look dashing in pink. Good smoker. I'm going to use Tamiya's fine white primer and gloss pink paint.

Jim: That's pretty surprising that she wants you to paint the loco pink. If I rememnber right, Lionel tried that girls train thing and it was a major flop with the girls. If they wanted a trainset at all, they wanted it to look just like the real ones or the ones the boys were playing with. But if that's what she wants...better get to work Big Smile [:D]

I've told her that, Dep. But ever since she saw a pink girl's train, she wants one. I can't bring myself to spend a lot of money for a pink train. This way, she's happy and in a while, when she's moved on to something else, I can repaint it black.

Yep...since the pink girl's trains were such poor sellers, they've become expensive collector's items. Yeah....a repaint is also in the cards. Good idea! Thumbs Up [tup]

We had rain last night and it's overcast this morning. High temp will only be 58 with some storms coming. But not as bad as those poor folks in Colorado who got snow dumped on them.

Luther: I know your posts from our caboose thread. Good to see another NYC fan. Not a Pennsy fan?!?!?!? You gotta check out the MTH S2 Turbine. It WILL change your mind. Wink [;)]

BTW...my "cheapclassic" is a 1972 Vette that I'm restoring (And it AIN'T cheap!!). It's patiently waiting for me in a storage facility while I twist the arm of the eldely lady that owns a big chunk of property next door to me. I need that land to build a 3-car garage/workshop

cnw1995: I know EXACTLY where Crystal Lake is located. VERY nice area. I actually got a ride on a  Milwaukee Road passenger car when I enlisted in the Army back in 1967. They stopped right in the center of my town (Wilmette, IL). I road all the way to Missouri on it. Also road on the Metra trains...but they are ultra modern.

An NYC, PRR and Corvette fan, I am going to call you my best friend now. I dislike the PennCentral too. I like all Vettes, but I really like the C2's.

I got out early because of PSAT testing. Nothing planned for the rest of the day. The sun has been out and the rain quit, so I went for my run. I am now typing this, and reading my new issue of Corvette Fever.

Colin: Oh MAN!!! I used to have subscriptions to ALL the Vette mags. But I let them expire. Too much about the C5-C6 and not enough about the older ones. Personally, I really hate the looks of the new Vette. C2s are great...but WAY beyond my budget. Even a crappy one is well over $25,000. Mine is the last one with chrome bumpers front and back. It had a 454 automatic in it but I yanked the engine and trans out and I'm converting to a new crate motor 454 and a 4-speed tranny. I gotta have that stick!! Wink [;)]

Dr. John: I LIKE the Corvairs. The Monza and Spyder were some dang fine machines. Ralph Nader can kiss my *** with his unsafe BS. The car was WAY ahead of it's time. The L-82 was a nice motor. Has all the good stuff like 4-bolt mains and good heads. Doesn't take much to get it to scream. Thumbs Up [tup]

Good Evening Everyone !!

Glad Chucks' Roadrunner came back !!

Ok, now on to my language !!  CORVETTES !!  I had 3 of them before my 1st. marriage, that wiped me out !! Started with a used 1960, then had a new one in 1968, Then came home from the Army & got a used one which was a 1970 L-88 .  Dep will have to put pictures of his on here someday !!

NYC RR !! My Dad put in 44 years on the NYC. When I started on the RR, it was the unglamorous Penn Central RR, then Conrail & now CSX. I tend to try to get NYC & P&LE & I have some Conrail stuff. I didn't get any Pennsy stuff yet, but want to. Actually, I just settle for anything I can get anymore. Always liked Milw. Rd & Santa Fe Warbonnet engines. Erie Lackawanna is a favorite of mine also !!

Well, hope everyone has a nice evening !!

Thanks, John

Hey Chief, hope you have a good day of Fishing.  Thanks for making an Offer that I couldn't refuse!    On the family front, my son who is 4 is not a biter, but, he does like to pick on his 2 year old sister.  One day, he kept blowing in her face.  When she had enough, he blew in her face and she open hand slapped him right across his face.  It was great!  He just stood there in shock and then tried to get simpathy from me.  Between the two of them, I think they will be fine as they keep each other in line.

Not much else happening on this end.  Foggy and on/off rain in dixie.  went up to around 90 today and supposed to get more of it tomorrow.  Sounds like great weather to be inside working on benchwork.

Hi John,
Are you aware that those three Vettes, especially the 1970 L-88, if you had them now, they would be worth their weight in GOLD!!!! Big Smile [:D]

The good news about Pennsy stuff is it is plentiful and readily available. The ultimate (in my opinion) are the S2 Turbines and the GG1s. I know the S2 was a flop as a locomotive, but it looks AWESOME on the toy train track. The GG1 is the biggest success story of electric trains. Went from Pennsy to Penn Central to Conrail to Amtrak. Only problem is the scale ones are HUGE and require 072 turns.

Chuck : There was one of those 53s in our area owned by a really good body shop man. That was years ago & I don't know about now, but I remember seeing it years ago.

Dep: you wouldn't believe how many times I wished I still had 1 of my old cars. I was at a recent train show with Chuck & was telling him about the new 67 GTO I had with the post. I ordered it that way as it was a lighter car. Chuck knew all about those as he was a GM manager !! Another funny thing is, that every once in a while I have a dream about only the GTO, that I still have it !! Ha !! I walk around for several minutes thinking I'll go out to the garage & tinker with it , then I suddenly realize it was that dream again !! Silly !!

Holy cow.....I just had a flashback for a '57 Chevy Bel-Air with the 283 cubic inch, 270 hp engine with 2 - 4 barrel carbs and a 4 speed with Positraction and a 4:11 rear end. This engine had a special cam from Duntov with solid lifters and big valve heads. 12.5 to 1 compression ratio.

Was faster than the 283hp Fuel Injected engine. Fastest time in the quarter, right out of the showroom was 104 mph in 14.10 seconds. And that was in 1957.

Love that car.

I had a black 57 Belaire 2 door hardtop w/ silver/blk interior. 3 spd 220hp. Nice car, however I like the looks of the 55' hardtops a little more .   ( My wife liked my 63' 409 the best)

Oh, to keep this train related, I'm running a Lionmaster SD80

I'll try to keep the camera handy, the roadrunner doesn't make his appearances on a regular basis.

Wow, all this car talk sure brought back some pleasant memories. I had a 65 GTO post and that sucker was BAAAADDDDD. I opened up the original 389 to about 415/420 ( memory ain't what it used to be ) with a carter 4 barrel that was as big around as a 5 gal garbage can. Don't know which lasted longer, a tank of gas or a set of rear tires. I think it was the tires but not by much. Blush [:I]  Approve [^]  Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Unfortunately I don't believe the younger generations will have the experiences that we, the old codgers, had as teens. My first car I paid an outrageous $15 and spent the weekend replacing brkes and turning the drums. It wasn't pretty but what rusty 53 Ply 4 dr was? Nowadays a couple a quarts of oil is $15.

Oh well, nice trip down memory lane, what's left of it. Sigh [sigh]
