Good morning from rainy PA,

Just fortified myself with a big bowl of GRITS, will need lots of energy as I will be babysitting the two little energizer bunnies later this morning.

Chuck, Maybe this is a silly suggestion, but how difficult would it be to raise the second level an inch?

Chuck, Have you looked into using an email service that doesn't depend on roadrunners email server?  I assume you have internet service, just do not have email.  Hotmail is one option & I don't think it costs anything for the basic service.

Laz, Yeah just 2 days! Big Smile [:D]  I signed up for that Atlas seminar on Thursday.  Hope it is more enjoyable than Mitch's HR seminar. Wink [;)]

Good morning! Raining and dreary in Dixie this a.m. Very grateful for the rain, though, as it's badly needed.

Happy hunting to those of you traveling to York. Take some pictures (where you can) so the rest of us can see some of the going's on.

John, in answer to your first question.....I used screws on the entire benchwork, to allow me to take it apart. EXCEPT the upper level, which I glued together with it's supports. ( stupid move ). So, I am forced to modify the opening or leave it alone and run with pantographs down.

Second question....Our great server has ensured me that all is well and that Roadrunner decided not to accept anyone's passwords. It will be fine in a short period of time. ( 24 hours, so far ). We have internet and phone, so all is not lost.

Good morning from a wet and gloomy Chicago where I just started the day with a flu shot.
That was the worst half of football I've ever seen in my life. I can't believe the Bears won.

Chuck, I've been following your pantograph saga. I think you plan to put wires up. I would recommend considering some of the techniques CTT has highlighted in the past, using thicker wire or HO rails - they would serve the keep the pressure 'down' on the pantograph as the GG1 ran through that section of 'tunnel' - I'm not sure what the tunnel roof looks like but will assume it is flat. You might try a few things to keep the wire off this roof - screwing little hooks into the woord and feeding a semi-circle of wire you soldered together into it. I'm making the big presumption they fit the tunnel in a somewhat raised position. They'll pop up again when it comes out.

Good morning all,

I spent some of last night cleaning out the train room. All the build materials have been packed up and put away. The room looks bigger now, but also kind of empty. No 4H in Mass. Only 3, and that's only in the summer - Hazy, Hot, Humid.

Hey Jim, the thread on the layout contest has been sent to page 2.  I don't think it was a good idea as originally done, but I applaud CTT for trying to find new ways to add to what they have.  I just hope that nothing gets messed up in the attempt.  They do a great job, but any business must continue to stay current and keep interest.

I really, Really, REALLY wish I could make York some time.  It sounds exciting.

Have a meeting tonight over dinner on a new device they are trying to get us to use.  While it will keep me away from doing more benchwork, it may be of benefit to our patients and for that, I just gotta go.  I did make some scores today in that the biomedical engineering guys are saving cable for me.  Hopefully I won't have to have huge spools of wire hanging around.  Lord knows the trouble two crumb snatchers can get into with a room full of wires.

Take care and have a great evening.

I'm  back from Atlantic City and now I need to use my winnings to buy a pack of gum.  Maybe two packs if they have them on sale.Smile [:)]

As I was going through security at Newark, a young couple behind me, who of course did not speak any language I had ever heard, were stopped by the TSA.  The TSA officer held up a box about 15" long, 12" high and 4" think and said, "You can't take this on the plane.  No liquids allowed."  Of course they supposedly didn't understand a word that he was saying, but I certainly did understand the young couple when they said, "Wine".  Their wine went into the trash.  This made me think that the Chief, with his moonshine might be a candidate for a very through search the next time he visits us in the NORTH.

Well tomorrow I'm going to visit Klinger's favorite restaurant in Toledo for lunch.

Alaskan Sized Cyber Crash

On Monday morning an Alaska Railroad work crew cut "the only fiber optic line" serving over half of Alaska! The cut crashed everyone into cyber, cell & telephone silence for the day. It was really kind of nice to be offline all day! It was really kind of funny how excited and upset everyone was getting over being cut off from the outside world for the day. It was like working in the days before we became so dependent on the Internet.

Just another real life railroading brings some excitement to people and has great possibilities for a fun reenactment on a model railway layout.

Three cheers for the Alaska Railroad maintenance crew and their backhoe!

Hi John....It looks like another quiet night. The Roadrunner is still sick and not working. I spent the afternoon working on the layout. Got the bumpers made for the trolley inside the mountain. No one will see it reverse. Working on a plan to cut the 3/4" off the tunnel entrance. I thought of chewing it off but decided not to. By hand with a coping saw is looking good. A " SawsAll " would be nasty. I wonder if Buckeye would lower the tracks. That would be fun. I sawed an inch off the legs and they are STILL on the floor.

Greetings from my class' computer lab where I have set my students to working so I can stop here and say hello.. Did you see the extra photos of the layout featured in the Dec. issue on the main page for trains.com? - looks very nice. Can't wait to see the issue.  Buckeye, I'm sure glad I don't have to travel by air. May the next four hours pass swiftly.

Hello everyone,

I need some assistance. I am looking for the Atlas SD40 in the Jersey Central roadname (3rail TMCC, all the good stuff.) Anyone know where I can get one? I looked on just trains website, and can't find the Jersey Central roadname. It is blue, and has the Jersey central logo under the window on the cab.

Thanks for the help

Hi all,
John (csxt30) suggested I check in with you guys. I've been into O-Gauge since the early 80s. As a kid (I am 57 now) I had American Flyer (all my Dad could afford). Now I am retired and working on putting an O-Gauge setup under the tree (and out in my rec room after Christmas). Most of my stuff will be MTH with a few Lionel items.

tmccman: I looked on the Atlas website but could NOT find the Jersey Central roadname. Don't think it is available.

Hello everyone.

Quiet night at home – ran trains for about an hour. Had the Hudson and the new NYC F3s out. Ran a few passenger coaches for a while but mostly freight. The rain finally stopped (it rained nearly all day) but now the fog is setting in.

Had a chance to work on my wall scenery tonight. I may even try to get a start on wiring up some relays for track signals.

I will be traveling to Columbus, GA tomorrow for a sales opportunity.

Have a good evening.

John: You're welcome and thanks for inviting me over here. Most of my stuff is gonna be Pennsylvania or NYC. my wife and her parents were orginally from NYC so they have lots of memories of the trains from there. And I am a nut for the Pennsy S2 turbines. I just ordered the S2 that Lionel came out with as a re-release in 1991-92 (18010). NO hobby shops anywhere close to me. A VERY long drive to Albuquerque for the nearest one. So I do most of my buying via the intertnet. The UPS driver is like Santa Claus for me Big Smile [:D]

Chuck: Thanks for the welcome. No track plans yet. For Christmas I will just have a 4x8 oval with 042 curves on it and the Christmas tree in the middle. After that I plan on building a larger permanent layout in my rec room. I have a good amount of space available, so a wide "U" shape is a likley setup.

I emailed Bob Keller, and guess I will get a reply soon. When I went to the train shows around my area, someone from a Hi Rail club had 3 of them, all powered, and were by Atlas, and this was last December. I wonder if they were a limited edition.
