Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a sunny 42 degrees right now. Going up to 55 with sunshine. That's a lot better than snow.

Today, I have an errand to run and then I will working in my train room and running trains. That new light tower looks good by the sidings and lights up great. I have to start working on the grass mat and cutting sections. I've got a game plan.

The Dining Car has arrived. Breakfast is served.

Y'all have a great Saturday.

Good morning everyone,

Cold here right now, but going up to 60. I have a soccer game at 12 noon today, then I will probably go out to dinner tonight. I have another game tomorrow, and after the game, I will be going to my cousin's house for dinner. Next weekend, I have a triple header. One game on Friday night, one on Saturday morning, and one on Sunday afternoon. Nothing on the train front for me, concentrating on homework, tests, and projects.

Talk to everyone later,

Good morning, all! Clear and cool this AM, supposed to have gotten down to 41 last night. We're heading to Tannehill State Park in Birmingham for a family reunion today (wife's side of the family). Hope to get by the Homewood Toy & Hobby Shop while up that way.

Dennis - Yeah, not much too much train stuff at the Montgomery Hobby Lobby. I had bank business in town so it wasn't a wasted trip.

Jim - The felt is a good idea for scenery - Lionel used felt on some of their postwar display layouts. I used it once on a quickly built N scale layout I built years ago. Looked pretty good. I went with a tan colored felt and used green and brown markers to give it some variety.

Have a good day, everyone!

Good morning from a sunny and cool northeastern Illinois where I am going to bring the neighborhood kids up to the fire station for open house today. Going to check out our local Hobby Lobby today, and hopefully work on the layout after bringing in everything for winter.

Never could find felt or fake fur in large enough pieces for the layout.

Good morning all,

It is sunny and cool in SE Indiana with temps heading to the 50s today.  It seems strange there is no soccer today.  Tmcc man, I envy you with all the games you have scheduled.  Good luck in all your contests!  I wish I had that in high school.  Dr. John, were the Hobby Lobby items at manufactured list price or did they go above that?  The reason I am asking is that next week is their 40% off coupon week and you mentioned the Southwesten expansion pack being there.  If they have it at regular list, 40% off would be a good deal.  If higher, not so good.  I am taking it easy today.  There are things that should be done, but there is nowhere I have to be at a certain time, which is nice.  Lucas got a B+ on his first test and he went to the football game last night with some of his friends, and he is going to a party tonight.  He is starting to live again.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Good Morning to all.  Sunny and windy in West Lafayette today.  I just ordered the 0-6-0  US Steel Switcher from Lionel.  My pap-pap was an engineer for them/Carnegie Steel his whole life.  I did some research and found pics of Carnegie Steel switchers that are 0-4-0s and plan to decal/modify one eventually from some 0-4-0 that looks close the the pictures.  Until then,  this switcher will fill the bill.  These switchers modeled after my pap-pap's engines will be worth more to me than my scale Hudson.

He also ran diesels later on, but I can't find any info on the type of engines he ran.  Does anyone know?
I googled US Steel trains,  but I can't find specific trains used to dump slag.
Have a great Saturday.

Glad to hear Lucas is doing things !! That's great !!

We actually got a little bit of snow earlier, after I said we had weather like Chucks !  It only stuck on the cars though !

Oh, today at noon will be a great Air Force dedication on, I believe Fox news station. Blue Angels & all kinds of stuff !!  I'm tuning in !! Taping it too !!

Thanks, John

Dougdagrump - how bout BUUUUUURRRRRPPPP!  I could foresee many uses for that sound effect on this board!

My wife bought a bag of small plastic skulls for the layout - I bid on some cheap coal dump cars (manual only) on ebay so might have these in time to carry a grizzly load on Halloween.  The brown felt looks pretty good, except I think I should have ironed it first = hope the creases come out on their own.  Don't think it would be a good idea to iron it while it's pinned to foamboard!  Gotta run to Schaeffer's Hobby Store this morning for a few pieces of track and ???

John, The Blue Angels are doing their show in San Diego this weekend at Miramar MCAS. I always preferred the T'birds having been in the Air Force but anybody who can put one of those things on a carrier deck as a part of everyday activities has you-know-whats the size of basketballs.

Chief, Put down the paintbrush and back away from that room, we had one heck of a rain last nite. Like a cow whizzing on a flat rock, and possible t'storms for today.

Doug, sorry for that.  I was trying to get those Yanks snowed in. Wink [;)]  Went to Miss Edna's.  Was chatting with Steve and Jerry [they kind of run the place too with Miss Edna], and ended up with a mint 2065 and tender.  Was part of Walter's [Miss Edna's husband who died several years ago] private collection.  Been sitting in the show case for several years.  Runs great.  Whistle will run you out of the room. Big Smile [:D]  Then I really "bit the bullet".  Miss Edna had one more Lionel Big Boy [with the TMCC II free] she had ordered and not allociated.  I signed up for it.  Had been hesitant as did not know when it would arrive.  If it comes in before the last of Dec. or first of Jan., she'll hold it as I get my tobacco allotment by-out check then.  Better get building on that bench work. Wink [;)]  Off to MIL's for dinner [Alison is cooking there]. Later

Mike, most times, I have noticed Hobby Lobby is well above suggested retail, on the expansion set, I think the box is printed $109.00.  Since it is actually printed on the box, they have little option.  It would be a good deal at 40% off..

Had a great day, the hospital has a yearly picnic, they go all out with lots of rides and attractions.  Plenty of food and entertainment for the whole family.  Upon our return to the house, my 4 year old son and I got onto the benchwork building.  Was going fine until he decided that he wanted to make it a house instead and started piling the wood on top of the stringers.  Had to make him come downstairs and so we quit for the night.  I would rather make construction last a little longer and include him in it than get frustrated and make it a bad experience.....molding lives.

Hope y'all have a great weekend.

Dennis

PS: Chief, when Ricky is done helping me with the benchwork, do you want me to send him your way to teach you?Big Smile [:D]

Good Evening....

Well, I spent a few hours working on the scenery today. Layout needs some trees and grass. Cleaned out my office and did some work outside. It went up to 65 today. A little wind.

Detroit did a nice hurt on Oakland. Good job. To the World Series.

Buckeye... Have a good time in Atlantic City.  Win big.

Good evening everyone,

Flashing in between the race and the Penn Sate game.

We lost our game 8-6 today. Mike C, the ref made no calls, zip. I went tried to head butt the ball, and out of nowhere, a kid comes up and pushes me out of the air. I was in the air, about to head it, and he just took me down and I landed on my back. No call on by the ref on the kid. I said to the kid "Do it again, and watch what happens. You do it again, and I will punch you." He didn't try it again. I exchanged a few "words" with some of his other teammates, especially when one of them charged me, and didn't even try to go for the ball, and decked me, and again there was no call on the play. So, I decided that if he could do that to me, I could do it to him. Boy, did he get layed out by me. I laughed at him when he got back up. Well, he fouled me again, but worse that last time. I landed on my knee, thankfully not doing any damage to it. I got up, shook my head and put my arms up, and said to the ref  "Your missing a good game, ref." Then the worst foul came on a teammate of mine. I gave him the ball perfectly up the sideline, and someone from the other team comes up to him, puts his knee up, and pushes him over his knee to make him fall, and guess what, NO CALL. Then the other coach started criticizing me over the push I gave to the one kid, and I turned to him and said, "It is going both ways now." He shut up after that. I left a lot more fouls out but the ones I mentioned were the main fouls that I really got mad about.

So, how was everyone else's day?

Good evening all,

It is dark and cold in SE Indiana with temps heading to the high 20s tonight.  Dennis, thanks for the Hobby Lobby update.  I may be checking that out on Monday.  I will also be going to the train show in Indy on Sunday.  Tmcc man, I am really sorry to hear the officiating was so lousy.  People can get hurt really easily if the officials don't keep the game under control.  I started reffing this year, and I have tried to keep the contact to a minimum.  Most importantly, I do not want anyone to get hurt.  I hope your next games are better.  I hope everyone has a good day tomorrow.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Guess I am confused cause I thought it was Lionel?  Was K-Line set?  Oldtimers is setting in bad this week.  Picked up my track I needed plus bought some screws to connect the trucks to my repaint gondola as suggested on that thread, then bought some wire to connect my switches.  Need to make about 3 cuts on track tomorrow and then wire the switches and should be ready to go.  Then just need to add the scenery.  Bidding on a MTH Z-1000, but folks are bidding me up at the last minute.  Another dollar and I'll just buy a new one Sad [:(] or maybe a 1033 or something else....

Smile [:)] Ha - won the transformer, but it was $11 more than the original asking price, but still pretty good for a used once on a Christmas morning etc buy at $56 & shipping was $8.50.  This will be part of my birthday, so will have to try and convince my wife to let me play with in at Halloween - maybe I need to make sure it works with some extensive testing right away!

Brrrrrr!  Mid 30's here this morning.

I guess it might be time to consider turning on the heat, esppecially in the train room, seems only yesterday we turned off the AC and were able to open the windows.  The bright side is that it should warm into the mid 70's later on.

Took the Grandaughters for a ride to the GA mountains (apple country) yesterday afternoon to visit a couple of pumpkin farms and get some fresh cider.  The farms that used to have petting zoos and hayrides gratis as an attraction now have become rip offs, $8 per person to get in and go to a petting zoo that has a few goats, sheep and maybe a deer.  Prices of goods have also skyrocketed.  At least the girls have gotten old enough to realize the value of a $ and given the option of going in or going out for supper opted for supper.  We had a nice ride (glad we have a DVD player in the van), a good Mexican dinner, and brought home a couple of gallons of cider.

On the train front I'll be working on a small switch panel for the contract layout I'm working on.  I'm at the point the main wiring is done and I'm installing signals and trying to get them to work the way the owner wants.  It's taking a bit of time on the bench figuring how to modify some to do what he wants,  oh well he's willing to pay for my bench time.

My Nikon D70s came in Thursday, has an awful lot of features, but at least the basics are similar to the N60 I've used for years.  I guess I'll have to see if they have one of the user courses nearby.

I think I'll go dig out a flannel shirt or two.  See y'all later.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill.

It is a frosty 30 degrees. Sunny. Going up to only 58 today, but staying sunny. There is frost all over the ground.

Roger... Surprised to hear you had 30 degrees in GA.

Well, today I will spend some time running trains and working on the layout. If the sun warms it up, I will go outside and enjoy the weather. I do not look forward to the cold. I have to cut the portals larger on the layout, as they do not allow the GG1 pantographs to clear, when in the upper position. That will be a " fun " job.

Well, the Dining car is serving breakfast. Later.

Y'all have a great Sunday.

Good morning everyone,

I it about 40 degrees right now, and I think it is only supposed to be 45 for the rest of the day. I will not be able to play in my game today, I have to go watch the Eagles game at my cousins house. I thought I would be able to play, but the time that they want us up there is the time that my game starts. I am a little dissapointed, because my parents won't let me play. They think I am still a little angry about yesterday, so it may be a good thingEvil [}:)]

Well, off to look at Sunday photo fun, read the paper, and then play XBOX360.

Jefelectric are you going to have pix of the FM TrainMaster on Sunday Photo Fun?

Nice pic Tom!  You sure are running around a lot lately!

John!  Ha - I meant the Lionel Lackawanna set you bought when you wrote: "Just a quick post to let you all know that I picked up my Lionel Lackawanna Train Master today and I am very happy with it.  Runs great, sounds great and smokes up a storm.  Been running it with 12 cars including caboose and it doesn't even act like it is pulling anything."  See, you're making me think I'm forgetting stuff.

Colin  - you know that coach knew exactly what his guys were doing.  Glad you called him on it to his face.  Be careful - nowadays, folks pull guns at little league games.

Back from the Fair.  Foot Long Hotdog was good.  Sat in traffic for an hour because my wife "knew it all" and said we had to get to her special lot [she has a pass] a certain way.  We could have saved time if we had gone as I have always gone for years when I worked next door.  She knew it all. Disapprove [V]  When we left, traffic was backed for miles and about half the normal strength of State Troopers were directing traffic.  What a crowd.  Perfect weather as not too hot nor too cold.  Now for some trains.

Good morning uh afternoon from a grey and cool northeastern Illinois where I am "babysitting" the daughter and her boyfriend instead of taking a nap or working on the trains. Fairs and pumpkin farms sure are nice - but even way out here, they've become super-commercialized like Dennis' experience. $ just to get in; $ to pet some rabid goats; finally $ for the pumpkins. Maybe we'll go this week sometime.

The bride has volunteered me for a 'trunk or treat' in a few weeks in our church's parking lot - she's got an idea to build a castle out of a few mini-vans or rather for me to do so. Came home with a few costumes - allegedly one is for me. Uh oh.

I'm excited for the Chief's TMCC2 Big Boy!
