NOT SNOHIO but GRITS.   [told you not to mess with us REBS]  Busy afternoon.  Town and County business on computer and phone all morning.  Then finally got to do last week's expense report.  Then cooked roast with turnips, carrots, potatoes and oinions.  Cooked trunip greens and sweet potatoes.  Big meal.  Youngest is here for the weekend.  Did run trains this afternoon after cooking.  Ran big NS diesels and then some conventionals [with TPC and CAB1].  After I worked on the cheap Pensy Flyer, it smokes up a storm.  That thing pulls better than some of the expensive steamers.  My old 2055 is now pulling three LV hoppers, two box cars, cattle car, tank car, two gondolas and lighted caboose.  Good night.

Jim,  I too think they take themselves too seriously over there.  I went and read your post, so what?  I personally am tired of all the speculation and name calling.  I look at some of the items that MTH has put out and think I am looking at old Lionel.  Some say it is not the same as the copyright has expired, but it does make me question the motives of the litigants.  That asside, the folks over here seem to have more fun with the hobby.  I noted a post from Neil Young over there, it seems it was his first post at least in the last 6 months, no wonder he stays away.

On a lighter side, my son wanted to know why I was making holes in the wall as I was mounting support for the benchwork.  I also got three more boxes from The Train Station tonight, one weighing over 70 lbs.  Lots and lots of track.  When I was up in the train room with Kim, she told me that she thinks I should move the sofa/bed to another room so I have more room for the layoutBig Smile [:D].  Boy did I marry well.

Take care and enjoy this flame free site.

Just a quick post to let you all know that I picked up my Lionel Lackawanna Train Master today and I am very happy with it.  Runs great, sounds great and smokes up a storm.  Been running it with 12 cars including caboose and it doesn't even act like it is pulling anything.

Off to bed,

I completed the backdrop project last night and installed it with the help of my daughter. It looks pretty good. A farmer's field framed by autumn foliage and mountains in the distance. The farmer's field kinda reminds me of a football field with the different shades of greens.

Everyone be sure to check out Frank53's photos of his post war trains. They are just incredible.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is 32 degrees, and sunny. No snow. Going up to 54 and sunny today. I sure am glad that I don't live in Buffalo, NY. 13 inches of snow and still coming down.

Today , I am going to spend a few hours in the train room and start the work. I have to get a few things cleaned up and then I will run trains. I love to run them as I am working on the layout.

John ( jefelectric )....Post some pictures of that new train.

Buckeye...No snow today.

Well, off to breakfast in the Dining Car. Later

Y'all have a great Friday.

Good morning all,

It is sunny and cold in SE Indiana with temps heading to the 40s today.  It was a cold and bitter night last evening as "my" soccer girls lost 4-0.  We played the other team evenly for the first 20 minutes, but two goals in the first half and one early in the second half made the outcome easy to predict.  The team had their second best season ever so I can not complain too much.  They played with a lot of heart, and that is all anybody can ask.  At least the weather was dry.

Is anyone going the train show in Indy this weekend?  I may try to go there to look for some parts, but other than that, I usually do not have much luck.  Lucas got a B+ on his first test back in school.  Woo-hoo!

I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

It's overcast and chilly in central Alabama this AM. Very breezy yesterday - felt more like the beginning of winter than fall! Temps may get into the upper 30's here tonight.

Lot of honey-do's today. May stop by Hobby Lobby in Montgomery to check the sale on Lionel starter sets - not looking for anything in particular, but if the price is right, well . . .

#1 daughter and only son home this weekend. Maybe I'll actually get to see them! Smile [:)] #2 daughter brings home report card from H.S. today. Rumor has it she will have two A's and two B's. Not bad at all! Hope you all have a good day!

Good morning from a sunny, windy and cooooold Chicago.

Big high school game tonight with undefeated cross-town arch-rival. Don't think 'we' have the horses to stay with them. May be a long night.

Sale at Hobby Lobby? I always check their newspaper circular. Maybe I missed something. Great excuse to stop by tomorrow on my way to the fire station open house.

Gil Finn. If ever there was a perfect name for a fish, that's got to be it. Get well, Gil! Hang in there, man! I hope you feel better soon.

The last of my 2400 series passenger cars is finished. This was the worst of the lot, and although it cleaned up ok, it's still not as nice as the other 2.

Have a great time at the fair, Chief. Don't milk any bulls!

God bless Gil and heal him quickly.  I didn' know he was having surgery.

Jim - sounds like you are really making progress on that project.

I'm on my first ever repaint project.  I bought a cheap repaited gondola for about $4 that you could still see the original lettering on through flat black paint.  I have been soaking and scrubbing my cheap old repainted gondola for about 10 days.  I soaked it in a bucket of Simple Green concentrate with a couple rocks to keep it down for a few days.  Then I went over it with a soft toothbrush which actuallly took off a lot of paint, but not the original white lettering.  The gondola is red plastic and had white letters for Southern Pacific, Lionel etc.  I soaked some more until last night.  Since we were going to have a frost, I brought the bucket in and started scrubbing with the brush some more.  More and more black coming off - one side was almost all red with just the white lettering left!  I scraped at the white lettering with a fingernail and some started to smear off!  Aha - I got some pencil erasers (the pointy ones) and started scrubbing at the lettering.  After about an hour I had all the white off on both sides.  The guy who painted over this before must have sprayed the one side about 20 times, because it is taking much longer to get down to the red plastic.  Anyway, it's back soaking in the bucket down in the basement.  Since I plan to paint it black with Krylon Fusion paint anyway, I mosly just want to make sure that there are no visible lettering issues before I repaint it myself.

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

I was repainting our newspaper box that sits on our front steps last night. I brought it in and set it on Wednesday's newspaper and started painting. Right there in front of me was a classified ad selling 6 MTH Railking freight cars for $92. I think it said new in the box. I might call tonight and see what's what.

Well, my trip to Hobby Lobby was disappointing, to say the least. I knew the K-Line offerings would be long gone, but I hoped for a better variety of Lionel items. All they had was one Southwest Special set - nice but pricey even with the 25% off sale. They had the Southwest expansion pack and several of the very odd (imho) Lionel Christmas train sets - I think they are close to G gauge, with the little elves, etc. attached to the engine and rolling stock. No other sets, none of the O gauge Christmas sets or add-ons. Too bad! Sad [:(] They did have several HO and N starter sets, plus a Bachman G scale passenger set.

Hey Gil hope all is better soon!

Still in Orlando... had a few hours off the other night and visited a co-worker and friend who broke his back and neck in a fall at a hotel in Oakland California in March.  He spent a month in CA before finally getting home.  He has been rehabbing and is in a assistant living center here in Orlando.  We had a nice visit and brought him some Chineese food.  Spent a couple two three hours.  He hopes to go home in Novemeber.  Still is in a wheel chair and has some issues on his left side.  More surgery later to hopefully correct that.

Hope everyone is having a good start to the weekend!

Hope Gill gets better too !! Come on Buddy, train season is upon us !!

We got robbed out of our snow & Buffallo hogged it all up today !! No wonder we didn't get very many westbound  trains at work today !

Well, the company liked the trains on my layout last night & I believe they are ordering that  Pennsy starter set . They said they found it somewhere for about 150. I think I overdid it with all the sounds of 3 trains running for a while !! I'm used to just running 1 at a time so I can hear all the sounds of that eng !

Glad it's Friday, but have to work Sunday.

Thanks, John

Dr. John, Sorry I just checked in here.  I could have told you that the Montgomery HL is very limited as I went there when I did that work at ML's house.  It is right around the corner from her.  Anyway, they did not have much train items at all and the items were the same you encountered.  Our local HL is clearing a lot of train items out, mostly HO and N, but they do have lots of Woodland Scenic ground foam and ground cover.  They are supposedly going to clear the K-Line items out, but still have the sets going for more than $60 over Manufacturer's suggested price.  Unless you can catch them on better than 50% off, not really worth it.  I did buy lots of scenic items, but passed on the rest.

Came home to find 3 more boxes from The Train Station at my door.  I think we are now into the 20s of boxes of track so far.  I did some work on the benchwork today, not much, but I had to move some furniture and gun cabinets out of the room, so now I have a good starting point for the work tomorrow.  I know most have worked on the layouts for a longggg time, (Chief) but I hope to have trains running and most of the scenery done in the next few weeks.

Anyway, I must get back to work.  Hope everyone has a great weekend.

jefelectric - glad the new Lackawanna runs so great - which year did that set come out?  I didn't see it in the last catalog and can't find my previous one...  Dougdagrump - good one!

Went to Walmart and bought some brown flannel material to cover my foam board.  Got a piece of black poster board to make a lake for the pirate ship.  Went to dinner at Culvers - bacon cheeseburger, o-rings, and then a turtle sundae - YUM!  (They need a grinning pig smiley)  Now my hands are really sore - been pushing track together for a few hours.  Had to put the pins in the switches I bought etc.  Finally gave up on my wife's needle nose pliers and got my heavy duty electricians pliers from the basement.  Came up 2 straight pieces short for my layout plan - I thought I bought all the track I needed Angry [:(!]  My wife says, well we all know where Daddy is going tomorrow!  Blush [:I]Shock [:O]Wink [;)]  I've got some pics and hope to post for Sunday.  God bless Lucas and Gil and all of us and out loved ones.  TTFN
