Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a stormy 63 degrees, going up to only 66 today and thunderstorms predicted for the entire day. Good day to stay in.

Unfortunately, we have to grocery shop today. It is not the best weather to do that. Think we will wait until later. Maybe the rain will stop for awhile.

The Weather Channel says that we will get a cold spell from Ohio to Florida. That is not good. Running trains will be a pleasure. I have all the materials to finish the basic scenery. New light tower looks good by the sidings. I'll post some pictures when done.

Off to the Dining Car for breakfast. Later.

Y'all have a great Wednesday.

Good morning, all.

Going to be a cool, cloudy one here today.

I'm well into the cleaning and polishing of the second 2400 series passenger car. This one is 2422 Chatham. This one is coming along better than the first in some respects. The reflectivity is much better, but the car was in worse shape, so there are more scratches. Still, it looks much better than it did and actually looks like a real car would after some useful service. It's fascinating to me to see the years of oxidation and dirt slowly wiped away.

All of these cars had badly rusted wheels. The hobby shop guy I bought them from used a Dremel tool and took the rust off. The wheels look like chrome now. I bought some gun blue at Walmart and recolored the wheels the correct black. They now look brand new.

That's all I got. See you all at noon.

Good morning all,

It is cloudy, rainy and warm (for now) in SE Indiana with temps in the 60s.  Cold front is supposed to pass thru sometime today and really cool things down.  Tonight is the first night for the girls soccer sectional.  This should be an easy win, but the weather may play a factor in how it goes.  I will be either be very happy tomorrow morning or very sad.  These girls have over-achieved big time already and it would be a shame to end the season on a lousy note.  My wife and I were going over bills last night and noticed we paid one twice so now I have to see about getting our money back.  Lucas had a good day at school and he even took the dog for a walk last night, which he hardly ever does.  I picked up the lawn mower after they got it fixed in a day.  My wife and I watched "Veronica Mars" last night.  It was a good episode.  I do not know about "pulling pork" or "sweat iced tea", but I do know about "cow-tipping" :-)  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

The two Atlas X-29 cars arrived yesterday.  The Lionel Lackawanna engine I ordered back in January has been shipped by Lionel.  Wonder when my LHS will get mine, they didn't have any info on it last Saturday.  With the purchase of the K-Line express car at the train show on Saturday we are seriously thinking of skipping York this time.  All of the above just about wipes out the train fund for now.  There are funds for the traveling etc. but don't think we want to go that far just to "window shop" as Karen put it.  Have another train purchase commitment to pay for too.  So if we don't make it to York, hope everyone has a great time.

Is cow tipping a myth?  This country boy never saw it or heard of it until  I went to high school and city boys talked about it.  Lived around methane plants (cows)  my whole life and never saw it.  What do you all think?

This may help you decide:

Cool and rainy in West Lafayette.  A good day so far.  Redneck trash neighbors replaced siding off of house that had been off since we moved in.  Now maybe our house will sell.

Good morning from a grey, misty and cool Chicago where the Rolling Stones will play outdoors in Soldiers Field tonight - forecast calls for blustery winds and snow -  hah! 109 years ago today the first trains ran around the Loop.

Jim, congrats on your modeling winning this past weekend. Hope everyone has a good day.

Morning all.  Mike, did the same for a co-pay when I was having lots of tests and the by-passes.  Took 3 months to get my money back.  Complained to the Dr's Ofc, that if I owed them money, they would be "hounding" me to pay and probably be threating collection agency.  Good luck.

On the Yankee baggage handlers and damage.  The SOUTHERN US Airways baggage folks came through like champs.  Left Dr's Ofc and went by airport [not that far away].  Carried the roller bag to the agent with claim number.  She immediately asked if they could replace.  I figured they would ship me one.  She walked to a room and came out with a new one that is actually a higher grade than the one I had [reinforced on sides and back].  Away I weent smiling.

Cloudy today.  Showers by evening.  Got meeting with the "great" Raleigh Mayor this afternoon.  Seems a hurried meeting came up after my meeting with County Commissioners.  Their Utilities Director is mad over the way the meeting went. Tongue [:P]  I might have a day to get back upstairs and work tomorrow.  Youngest coming to spend some time here tomorrow night. Big Smile [:D]  Later

Good morning,

Looks like the nasty weather is moving in everywhere.  Not bad here yet but coming soon.

GregM,  My LHS owner told me he got an email from Lionel saying the Lackawanna TM is on the way.  I also got a couple of the X29s, very nice, Atlas is pretty good at keeping me poor.

Jim F,  A couple of weeks ago I bought a Lemax "Al's Gas Station", on Saturday I saw the same item with a Coventry Cove label at Kmart for $19.95.  I don't remember how much I paid for it but I am sure it was more than that.  Go figure.

Mitch, Your HR seminar sounds like a lot of the meetings I have attended over the years.  Loved your description, I will have to remember that one.

Chief, Got the greenhouse all cleaned up and disinfected yesterday.  Checked the gas heater and backup electric heater and both working.  Need to take the shading mesh off before it snows, otherwise everything ready to go.

Jim, Congrats on the model car show awards.

Looks like Atlas made a decision for me.  Have been debating installing TMCC in my K-Line PRR A-5, 0-4-0 switcher.  Now I will sell it and buy the Atlas I think.  If anyone is interested, send me an email, otherwise it goes on ebay one of these days.

Babysitting again this afternoon, so may check in from daughters computer.

Take care,

Hi guys,

Why is my last post marked locked?

I just installed a new flat screen monitor.  Looks and works great.  Think I got a deal.  99.95 (after rebate).  Yeah I know they are a pain, but for this much money I will fool with it.  Has built in speakers so that gives me even more desk space.

Check it out, no I don't get a commision.

Howdy all,
Good morning, I am posting here since I can not for the life of me figure the best place for this question.

After searching the forum and web, I have found the standards for modular "high rail / tinplate" modules with only on variation.  I would like to find a local club, group or person to work with when I start building my new layout.  I want to go modular so when (it will happen when I least expect it) move from my current home, it will be easy to break up and take with.  Plus I can always take a couple a sections with and "play" with others.

So to simplify, could some one here help me track down a group in the DuPage county area of Illinois?

Thanks, great board!!

I 've an answer on the weird readings I was getting on channel D on a new ZW.  Seems that you can not use an analog volt meter with the new electronics and get a "real" reading unless there is a load on the circuit.  With a digital meter the output on D read ok.  I was able to get a good reading on channel A since the ZW circuits, i.e. pilot light, is powered by this channel.  In the back of my mind I remember reading that this holds true for the PM's also.

I guess Friday I'll have to trouble shoot the track connections to find why there's a voltage drop on one curve, probably a bad pin connection.

Mitch, We always referred to those seminars as the rubber chicken circuit, lunches always tasted like a rubber chicken even if you got beef.

The brown truck just dropped off a box. When I first saw the truck thru the windows I thought it was my C&O Docksider, it wasn't. I had forgotten that I had a box enroute from Just Trains, my K-Line tree lot and carousel arrived. I wanted the tree lot for the Christmas layout and the price for the carousel was so good I couldn't pass it up.

Got a couple of my halloween cars ready but still have a couple more to go, will try to put together an album for "Photo Fun" thread after halloween.

A really tacky finish to the race. If they were horse jockies instead of throttle jockies the winner would have been DQ'd. I hate restricter plate races, they turn them into bumper cars.

Friday before last was the final cruise nite for the season and like a dummy I didn't take my camera. The group that has converted some bumper cars to street legal machines were there, those things are so neat. Still have the brass pole with the contact strip on the back. Cool [8D]

Doug,

The Big Brown truck just came by as I was reading your post.....16 large boxes from The Train Station!!!!!!!!!!Big Smile [:D]  I cleared some room to continue with the benchwork.  discovered a slight problem/challenge.  The trackplan won't fitBlack Eye [B)]  I have the great luck in that my plan is fairly flexible and I should be able to adapt and overcome...sorry, military training.  Anyway, I will be making some changes and getting track down soon.  Also, my K-Line ABA Lackawanna F3s arrived!  for that, my bride will be putting them up, so I can't look at them till Christmas.

I am tired....in fact too tired to get working on the trains, so I will rest up and hopefully, after the morning case, I can come home and get to the fun work.

Have  a good night.

Hello everyone,

Nothing much happened here today. I am watching The Military Channel right now, and a great show is on about the Panzer Divison's in Caen, France. Very good show. Waiting for Pinks to come on.

Dwiemer, tell your wife that you have to run them to see if they work or not, because you never know about the chips in the locos.

Jim, and now me.  LHS sent me an email to say my Lionel Lackawanna Trainmaster is in.  Will be picking it up tomorrow afternoon.

Got home from baby sitting and made dinner for my bride.  The girls were a little wild today.  Got to remember not to let them eat the chocolate that I take them until I am ready to leave. Evening all.  Turned out to be very good meeting with Raleigh's Mayor.  Church for dinner and now TV.  Maybe some train room work tomorrow.  Youngest coming and staying until Sunday?????  Cooking roast with potatoes, turnips, carrots and onions.   Cook a "mess" of turnip greens and bake a couple of sweet potatoes.  Make some sweet ice tea.  Yanks can't eat that good. Dennis, if you would use flex track its easier to get around the obsticals (sp?).Big Smile [:D]

Had an unexpected visit of a couple of folks to see the layout this evening.  The daughter and future son-in-law of a friend of my wife's.  He's a big guy, (he's on the UGA police force and is frequently the football coach's body guard on the field) and I wasn't sure he'd make it under my duck under bridges to see the details.

They stayed for better than an hour just looking and finding all the mini details hiden on the layout.  What suprised me most was that the girl was all over looking for the little things once she realized there are many not so obvious details.  They both asked to come back with friends.

The interesting thing is that they're both in their mid-20's and have an interest in trains, there is hope for the younger generation.

Tired here tonight & took a few naps tonight. Worked in rain all morning, tires me right out .

Roger : Yes, there are still kids that like trains today ! Funny you mentioned that cause I have a friend bringing over his Grandson tomorrow evening to see my layout. This boy is only 7 & somehow saw Lionel trains somewhere and is driving his parents crazy ! I believe they're planning to get him a set for Christmas. Gee, I wish I had some scenery, guess I'll just tell them about it !! Oh, they went to the train show too, that we all went to in Cleveland Saturday, so they have seen some stuff already.

Well, getting ready for cooler temperatures here tomorrow !

Thanks, John

Today I was scheduled to provide pre-sales support at work but it ended up getting canceled. Also had a meeting with my direct manager to discuss the recent re-organization and the go forward plan. Other than that I reworked / enhanced some error handling code written by another architect and ran everything through its tests. Spent a lot of time on the road but at least I had music.

I got a little time in on the layout this evening. I am using MDF for roadbed. I seal all the pieces with polyurethane to keep out the moisture. I got all the pieces for the yard cut Sunday evening and tonight I gave them the first of two coats of sealant. I also won a long sought after wood side semi-scale NYC caboose on eBay late last night. Finally my J3 will have a right sized rolling office.

I also picked up some Liquid Nails. It always amazes me how much I learn from the forum and reading through posts. I have been using the foam the is used beneath vinyl siding as a scenery base with plaster cloth on top. I have been using a hot glue gun to assemble the foam which usually ends up melting some of the foam. Since it has all been under the plaster it has not mattered. I am at the point where I need to fasten a retaining wall to some exposed foam where melting was not an option. Someone had mentioned using the Liquid Nails in another post so I am going to give that a try. So thanks guys!

It sounds like everyone is keeping USPS and UPS busy these days. It is always good to hear of train purchases rolling in. I hope everyone enjoys their new purchases!

Time to turn in – 5:00 AM comes around way too soon.
