Home and ate [was starving].  US Airways destroyed a NEW roller bag.  Saw a tear in the outside edge when I loaded in the truck at parking lot.  Got home and farther investigation revealed the whole top back section is torn out.  Was not over packed nor had anything heavy in it.  Had rust allover it.  Called US Airways.  Was told to call and report tomorrow [only open 8 to 5 Monday thru Friday].  When I gave them my FF number, they really changed their attitude [they saw all the miles I fly with them].  We will see tomorrow.  Probably done by some Yankee up Nawth in WI. Wink [;)]  What an ending to a on time and mainly early round trip.  Not much to get done tomorrow as County Commissioners want me to attend their work scession tomorrow after lunch.  Rained over 2 inches while I was gone.  Warmer in WI than here.  Heat is on here.  Later.

Good evening all,

It is dark and mild in SE Indiana with the temps in the 60s.  It was another beautiful for soccer as the local team played for the title.  They lost in a shootout, but at least the weather was nice and nobody got hurt.  We had a birthday lunch for my dad, which was kind of hard on him as it was the first one for him without mom.  They had a quilt show in Columbus and they exhibited some of my mom's quilts as a tribute to her.  There was a very nice display, and there were others on display as well.  We went to Sears and a bookstore as well and ate supper at Captain D's.  It was a good day.  I hope everyone else had a good day as well.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

In this morning's paper I see the Hobby Lobby ad shows Lionel sets 25% off.  I guess they changed to Lionel since K-line's not around any longer.

Roger, You have a great camera and the perfect lense for shooting the layout.  One of my favorite lenses for other work is a 80-200, F2.8.  It is great in low light or fast action.  Congratulations, and I look forward to some contributions to the Sunday Photo Fun.

Luther, unfortunately, I will be on call the weekend of the Manchester show.  I know about the area as I lived in Columbus for 8 years.  Warm Springs is a nice place to visit.  The whole Pine Mountain area is nice.  If you go up on 27, right by Callaway Gardens, on top of the hill is a good restaurant.

Chief, what a day!  went to homecoming at a church I used to attend.  Kim and I were curious as to whether my ex girlfriend was going to be there......Not only was she there, she was part of the singing groupShock [:O]  Then, towards the end of dinner, after I had said goodbye to some folks, I turn the corner to find my wife and ex girlfriend chatting away and having a good ol time with the kidsWhistling [:-^].

Man- looks like you folks had fun.  I'm tired - went to a birthday yesterday that took most of the afternoon and night, then replaced a couple outside lights today, ate lunch, then down to the basement and had to undo some of the wiring I ran for outlets - there is a limit to the number allowed on a run, I think 8?  Anyway, I had 9, so I pulled out the connecting wire and started a new run for the bedroom and one wall where I think my computer will go.  I'm strongly considering a separate breaker just for my train set.  Need to run wire for 3 more outlets, then sit down and actually put in the hardware - might have power tomorrow night!  Tomorrow I need to repaint the front door early, then work on the basement.

Simple Green concentrate is working but slow.  I think I put the gondola (was spray painted flat black over a red car with Lionel decals or paint on the sides.  The black is coming off - I scrubbed it a little yesterday with a soft toothbrush and put it back in the SG to set some more.  Funny - the black is coming off but the white lettering that was showing through is still there!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

In the words of Scooby Do, Rut Ro!  Actually, my wife said that she actually likes my ex girlfriend, and that if the situation was different, she could see being friends.  She does not like the guy the ex married, but neither do I, kinda reminds me of the detective in "Something About Mary", big teeth and all.  Not sour grapes, he just really comes across like a used car salesman.

On other fronts, I have found some of the K-Line 18" aluminum passenger cars to go with the F3s I picked up.  Was wondering how this looks together, or would some other Lackawanna passenger cars go better?  I doubt She who must be obeyed will go for it now, but my birthday is in January.

Something of a software note, the top of the screen says "Welcome back dwiemer", but above it is the message about how the "forums are free, but you must log in........"  So, what gives?  I posted and it did come up with my name signature, but it does seem like they still have some issues.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It's a sunny 46 degree day. Going up to 70 again today. The trees are really starting to turn bright colors.

Today, I have a few errands to run and some chores to do around the house. I may cut the back grass later, after the dew burns off.  It's almost time to start putting things away for a long ( hopefully not ) winter. Oh, I hate that word. BUT, it sure makes a lot of time for trains. I have a lot of ideas for the train room. This will be fun.

This past weekend was a great event to remember. It is only the beginning of things that I want to do. More to come.

All aboard for the Dining Car. Breakfast. Be back later.

Y'all have a great Monday.

When I get home from the fitness center I will post a picture of my K-Line A-B-A & 18" cars for you.  Have to move some trains around to get a good picture.

Morning all.  Cloudy and cool.  Weather was better in WI.  Suppose to change though.  Get warmer here and colder there.  Dennis, you can believe that if you want.  Mother hen will be "jealous of her rooster and protect her baby chicks".  She is just being the nice SOUTHERN lady she is [you have a real winner there].Big Smile [:D]  If I were you, the subject would go away. Got meeting this afternoon with County Commissioners.  OH, notice that Jim A has not posted today.  He has Columbus Day [my day, figure that one out ????] off.  Told him, in NC that was not an official holiday and neither is Presidents' Day.  Never understood that one.  NC State Govt is stingy with their holidays.  Feds are off so no one at Wife's office. We do have Good Friday as a holiday but the Feds do not recognize it.Disapprove [V]  Bird feeders to fill as wife does not do that while I'm gone.

Enjoyed meeting the gang at CTT.  Made the trip worth while. Big Smile [:D] Now to call US Airways. Black Eye [B)] Have a good one.

Good morning from a sunny and cool Chicago where I apparently am the only one at work - or on the train, or on my walk to work, etc. Wonder if there's still a Columbus Day parade today? Worked like crazy to get the trim paint done before the big cool-off this week - didn't quite make it: but the front of the house is done and that's what people look at so the bride will be happy. Boy am I sore moving that big ladder around. If it warms up next Sat, I may take one more crack at it.

Ran out of track trying to put in a long siding to the main line. Realized I  need a place to park my one long train again so I can swap out consists. The Corgi Birney runs really well but boy is it sensitive to my trackwork since the motor bottom is so close to track level. I fixed the digital camera so will try some shots tonight.

Looks like everyone had a nice weekend.

Well, my wife was sick all night so not really enjoying our day off (Columbus Day = Fed Holiday, you are right Chief).  Kids have school, so got them up and ready then dropped off.  Checking emails and watching The Monolith Monsters from a set I bought on the weekend.  I love cheesy old sci-fi/horror flicks.  No Lionel trains in this one though.  Need to scrub down the door and get it painted.  Then probably goof off the rest of the day since I'm so tired.  Maybe clear off some stuff on my table and start putting track together.  TTFN

Good afternoon all,

It is a beautiful and sunny day in SE Indiana with the temps in the 80s.  Weather is supposed to change soon and get nasty (just in time for the soccer sectionals :-(  ).  Any way, I washed and waxed the van and took the lawn mower in to get fixed.  Tonight I will run trains.  Cnw1995, you may in fact be the only one working today for the forum bunch so I hope your day went well.  I hope everyone had a good day as well.  Lucas had a good first day back at school.

Keep on training,

Extreme Weather Report
This morning I as I was packing the pannier bags on my bicycle to ride to work I decided to wear shorts and a light weight windbreaker for my morning commute. I arrived on the university campus where I work and had worked up a good sweat from my ride. As I was stashing my bike under a stairway and climbing a flight of stairs to my office I realized what a monumental day this is and what an unusual ride I had just taken.

Riding a bicycle in shorts to work in early October for most of you would not be that big of a deal but–  for those of us that live in the interior of Alaska, specifically Fairbanks, it is an unheard of occurrence. I have been here 20 years and have never seen warm weather like this in the north. We have only had one day with light snow so far this year and that melted off by the next afternoon. Normally by this time in October our ground is beginning to freeze up, we have a little snow on the ground, and making the adjustment to 7 months of winter life.

I very rarely post messages but when I have time I like to check in and read everyone's musing about trains and life in the "pot of coffee" thread. One of the things I get a kick out of is hearing about everyone weather from the different parts of the country. So for Columbus Day here is weather report from Fairbanks Alaska: We are looking for a high of 62°f (thats above zero) and windy with an overnight low of 32°.

Gotta love that global warming a little bit on days like today. I hope everyone is having a day as good as we are having here!

Mike, first, I am glad that Lucas had a good day back at school.  One day at a time, and I pray that the next day is better and continues to be so.  Second, I also had to work today.  Dark early (there before 6am), and finished up about 4pm.  We don't get many days off, and people never seem to get sick at a convenient time.

I know that deal on the K-Line F3s was good, but they sold out pretty quickly.  I am so glad I was able to get my order in.  I have heard a number of people speaking well of these units and it does seem a shame that they are not being made anymore.  The only drawback that I can think of is that the parts for repair could be a issue.  I had tried to do a search of the items that were reviewed by CTT and I could not locate these units.  It is a shame, I would have enjoyed reading the review and probably would have purchased these earlier at regular price.

Make that three of us that had to work today.  Our kids had school today.  I had lots of parent visitors though due the the holiday.

Finally feeling better after a week of coughing and stuffy nose with runny eyes.  Went to Mom and Dad's yesterday for dinner. Very close friends from Sheffield Lake, Ohio were in for a visit.  We had a nice time visiting with them.  While we were there my Mom got a call that her nephew, my cousin, died from a massive heart attack earlier in the afternoon.  He was 57 years old.  He had been battling prostate cancer and then the big one.  It's the first of my immediate cousin's to pass away.  Not sure if i can make it to the funeral or viewing as my assistant principal is away Thursday and Friday.  I haven't heard when the funeral is going to be held.  Checked on-line and nothing was posted yet.

Take care,

Mitch

Well Dennis, I'm back.  No I didn't spend all this time at the fitness center.  Got tied up with other things & then a class dinner.  Our HS Class of '57 has a dinner or lunch every month, had 30 there tonight.  Just go home not long ago.

So here are the K-line locos & passenger cars.  The cars are #K4638A Phoebe Snow 5 pack.

The cars have interior details and lighting, but no people.  I added them to one car.  Have them for others but haven't found time to put them in.

Hope this helps.
