Mike,

That is great news. My prayers are still going for him.

Jaabat, tell the Chief that we are now getting a decent amount of rain. That is the last thing I wanted today.

Mike--

FANTASTIC NEWS, take a deep breath and keep praying.

Chief--------what the heck does "strow" mean? I looked it up in the dictionary and it said "arcahic variation of strew", is this southern talk/slang and does it mean you are arcahic?

That's great news about Lucas.  I think us train guys on the forum might have gotten the Lord's ear with the results our prayers have brought.

Mike - Great news about Lucas! I'll continue to remember you all in my prayers.

We got mom moved into assisted living today. Everything went well - she seems to like her room and the staff has been very good. It will be an adjustment for Dad, but I believe we did the right thing for mom.

Had some good rain this afternoon. Need to cut the grass but will have to wait until Thurday evening before I get a chance. Sure do miss my son, who's off in Birmingham at UAB. Need to get the youngest daughter (14) checked out on the riding mower!

Well, been the last 4 hrs. or more trying to make my video work or trying to get it into Photobucket & it just won't go. Boy, these videos things on a camera just don't seem to get it. Can't wait to get a regular digital movie maker now. Plus if I try to email it, it locks up my email program. Guess I won't be able to make a video for Lucas now afterall. Well, I made it ok, I just can't get it transferred.

Thanks, John

Good morning, all!

Super great news about Lucas, Mike!

The Chief stopped by last night, and I have to say, I had an incredible time. We went to my usual train store haunt, but it was closed early for some reason. So we went to my second choice and tried to con the owner into selling me some more post war stuff at stupidly low prices. He's wising up to me and wouldn't bite. Last week he sold me a 2056 in very nice condition for $30, a bunch of nice post war rolling stock for $40, and a 275 watt ZW for $140.

The next stop was dinner. We each had an order of steak and ribs, and let me tell you, it was GOOD! I was more than a little full after that meal.

The real fun started back at my place. The Chief made me open up that $30 no-go 2056 I bought and showed me how to tear it down, clean it, and lubricate it. Who knew an education could be so much fun? And we didn't even harm the wife's kitchen table doing so. We got the locomotive running in both directions. I was about ready to bust!

Give a man a fish, and you'll feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you'll feed him for life. Last night, the Chief was kind (and patient) enough to show me how to fish, and I can't thank him enough.

I kept him out too late, but I'm not sorry. I had an absolute blast. I was so excited about seeing that train come to life, I was still up at midnight! That's late for a guy who wakes up at 5:00 each morning.

I guess the next forumite that might see the Chief is Doug, out in CA. Buy him dinner, Doug. You won't regret it!

Have a great day everyone.

Jim

Good morning all,

It is foggy and in the mid 50s with temps heading to the mid 70s today in SE Indiana.  My wife and I went for a walk last night with her dog (not mine, I do not claim it).  It was nice to have a "normal" evening for once.  I think my dad will be over for supper tonight.  I thank you all for the messages from yesterday and today.  Jaabat, it sounds like you and the Chief had a good evening.  Csxt30, thank you for trying on the video.  Maybe it will work sometime.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

   Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a sunny 55 degrees and going up to 75 today. Sunny. Maybe some rain later tonite. Sunny looks great.

Today is grocery shopping day.  That's a nasty task. But, we have to eat. The prices don't seem to be going down as fast as gasoline prices. Last week I paid $2.30 a gallon for 87 in Cambridge. That's the cheapest that I have seen. It is  $0.30 a gallon more in Caldwell. 15 miles apart.

The wife and I are looking forward to this Sunday. I hope it does not rain.  We will be going to the Great House of Buckeye, and touring some nice outdoor railroads. My wife will get to see his Duesenberg. She has never seen one. Sounds .like a fun day.

Jim ( jaabat ).... Count your silverware after "you know who" leaves.

There is the call to the Dining Car. Toot...TooT

Y'all have a great day.

Good morning all,

It sounds like the Chief & Jim had a fine time last evening.  Looks like I ought to hire Jim to do some shopping for me.

Damp and foggy here, hope it clears enough to mow this evening.

I've got a little project to do in the wood shop this morning.  The 13 year old grandson got a little exuberant and broke one of the kitchen cabinet doors (needless to say his mother is not to happy with him right now) so I am going to try to repair it without to much evidence of the damage.  Hope I can do it, for his sake.

Picked up a new MTH SD-9 in PRR scheme at Cool Trains yesterday.  Ran it at the shop to check out, but haven't run it at home yet.  Also picked up a Rudolph the red nosed reindeer set for one of the grandaughters christmas present.

Well off to the woodshop,

Good morning from a sunny and warm Chicago. Had all sorts of problems running everything last eve: derailments left and right, power problems, etc. But anytime running trains is better than working. I ended the evening setting up a long (for me - seven cars) freight behind the Santa Fe FA 8351 that successfully snaked its way over the trolley tracks. That dang Williams REA boxcar is just a tad too long. Hope to add a few more shorter cars to the consist tonight. Glad the Chief and Jim had a good visit up north.

Mornin' All.

Mike, Great news !!!!!

Had a surprise phone call from the Chief last nite, talked for awhile as he drove back to his hotel after a visit to Jim's place. Didn't realize that they would rent a Car to someone from NC, figured for sure it would be a Horse n Buggey. Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] We talked a bit about trying to get together after his duties over by Palm Springs are finished. Clown [:o)]

Spent the day at the museum yesterday, free tuesday, and everything went well except for throwing a tire on my K-Line GP-38. Anybody have any leads to LHS's that carry K-Line traction tires? This one was used so it didn't come with all the extra stuff in the box.

The Chief's rental car had Maine plates and registration. Honest! Seems no one in NH or MA would rent him one!

I hope the Chief didn't say anything bad about my train repair skills, Doug.

No K-Line dealers around here. Sorry.

Hello All!   Mike C- That is terrific news about Lucas & I hope he keeps on getting better over time. Colin- Don't worry about your father. Hopefully, after a while he will feel foolish about how he treated you & apologize. He should know better & get his info straight before accusing anyone of something they did not do.The only thing for you to do is to learn from this & never accuse anyone of something they did not do without facts or firsthand knowledge. Jim A- Glad that you & the Chief had a good time together. Look out for the Grits Time Bomb in your basement though!Wink [;)]Big Smile [:D]Clown [:o)] I think Grits are used to make Silly Putty as well.Smile [:)]Clown [:o)] Hope you had none for Breakfast.Smile [:)]Clown [:o)] Take Care all.

Great news Mike C.!  Keeping that prayer wheel spinning!  Jaabat, thanks for the info - sent you an email.  Glad to hear the Chief hooked up with you and you guys had such a great time!  Doug, sounds like he's headed your way - keep us posted!

Called the heating/air place yesterday morning 'cause they were getting close to my dentist appt time and I wanted to make sure the guy would get here on time.  Lucky I called, cause he wasn't going to make it.  She said she had another guy who just finished a job and she'd get him right over - Dave. Huh!  Dave is one of my best friends!  He showed up and we had a good laugh about it - he did a good job, too.  Pretty funny!  Then, on the way home from the dentist (Look Ma, no cavities!), I ran into him at the gas station!

Copper, in case you guys have't noticed, has like doubled in price now!  I've still got about 525 feet of 12-2 romex, but just realised yesterday that I need about 150 ft of 12-3 for the light fixtures!  I don't like to use 14 gauge - just too confusing.  Hate to find out what it will cost me.  Also need about $500 worth of light fixtures.  Basement is shaping up now, so getting closer to some benchwork!  At this rate, I might just beat you, Chief!  LOL

Colin - good luck clearing the air with your dad.  Hope I didn't forget anything or anyone, but my best to everybody!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Jim,  I have read your post concerning the Chief's recent visit.  I noted that he stayed late into the evening and used a rented car.  Have you counted the silverware  that is missing?

Doug, the land of fruits and nuts may never be the same after the Chief's visit.  I'm concerned that your museum membership may be revoked after the visit.

Yes, Blueberry and Mrs. Blueberry are heading to the big city to see the trains in the garden this Sunday.   Now I really enjoy a good train show, but the Garden RR Tour in Columbus is better than most train shows and it is FREE.  (Colin, do they have these types of shows where you live?) Greg is going to be here Saturday with his family to see the trains, so it will be a fun weekend.

Tomorrow I'm in Cincinnati on business.  May be able to visit Davis Trains.  Friday,( Laz you will love this.) I was invited to play golf and it is FREE!!!  BTW, LAZ  I want to build a trestle for the outdoor layout and need your recommendation as to what type of wood or man made material should be used.

Tom, did you send Roy back to Texas?  Since they just announced that there were 40,000 Buckeye fans heading to Austin for the game this weekend,  Roy must feel like he is being chased out of the North.

TomS, has it snowed in Sherman, NY yet?  For the unknowing, Sherman, NY, Tom's new place of employment receives on the average more snow than Buffalo or Jamestown.  Sherman, NY looks more like a town you would find out in the middle of Wyoming than in New York.

Speaking of Sherman, I'm looking for the Gen. Sherman T-Shirt that commemorates his Southern Barbeque.  It thought it would be a nice Christmas gift for the Chief since his such a big fan of Southern Barbeque.

Enjoyed a little time running the trains. Added two more cars to my little freight - they were hoppers full of real gravel so were a tad heavy - noted all the rolling stock is from 1970 and 1972. An old 2-4-2 couldn't pull the now nine-cars incl. caboose train so the trusty Alco was re-coupled and led the parade around the layout. I was musing about re-wiring the R using an Atlas Connector (or was it a selector) to swap between the wire-up for the high and low voltage arrangements - the high one works wonders for the passenger train when led by the K-Line 4-6-2 and sound tender. The low voltage (8-16 v. I think I recall) doesn't make it go. Conversely, the low works when the Williams GG1 heads the train: the high is too much. For now, I'll just swap the wires when I want to run the other. Keeping things simpler for once.

I have been gone for a while.  Went to Ontario, Canada for my annual fishing trip the week before Labor Day.  We had walleye for shore lunch everyday.  My biggest walleye was 25 inches, which I released.  My largest Northern was only 30 inches this year and I released it as well.  One guy in the camp caught a 44 3/4 inch muskie that weighed 28.5 lbs.  I saw it in the fish house as they were having it officially measured.  It was huge.

Saw the new Lionel catalog on line.  Still wainting for Lionel to produce the scale PRR Decapod.  Well, maybe next year.  Looking forward to running trains Thursday evening.  Best of health and regards to all.
