Chuck - I filled up at $2.37 the other day, hope it keeps going down!  Worked 5 hours of OT this morning, then had to rush home so my wife can race to her eye appointment.  Her old glasses weren't doing the job (bifocals cut out of coke bottles) so she was going to get her eyes checked and a new prescription.  Then, her old frame broke a week before the appointment.  We stupidly tried to glue it back together instead of soldering it.  Anyway, it's been a struggle to keep the glasses together.  She was trying to wear her older pair when she went to her appointment and it messed up her readings, so they didn't get a good reading.  Now have to pay for another appointment, so please everyone pray that this one works and she can get a good reading on her eyes today!  Thanks!

Still praying for two sons and a son-in-law on the Pot.  Hope everyone is still getting better.

Didn't get enough sleep last night, so just taking it easy for a while.  Might try a nap.  Later!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

$2.37? I must have the most expensive fuel in the country: I paid $2.73 last night and was happy to find it - only $44 to fill up the van instead of over $50. Enjoyed running trains this afternoon in between checking in with the daughter and her boyfriend. The usual derailments and high adventure. Got my single engine Alco to pull 12 cars - including two hoppers full of real gravel, two oversize and light K-line cars that came with a batterypowered train set, and one of those MTH searchlight cars with the six wheel trucks. I've never been able to consistently get it 'round the curves before. Couldn't pull 13 cars though. Set up another transformer to swap between the 'high voltage' setup when running all the sound and light engines on the main line vs. the new transformer's 'low voltage' setup when running a smaller engine. I'll just swap lock-ons instead of wiring in a switch.

We just dropped ever so slightly below $3.00 a gallon, some of the independents about $2.80/85 (heaven knows the water content) while the others were in the $2.90+.

Trying to watch some football but it is just to dang hot, it ain't football weather yet. Unless you live in Loveland Pass, Co. They had snow this morning. Smile [:)]

Pam says $2.31 per gallon in Roseyville and dropping daily.  Getting close to election time and the ----------- are trying to recover and keep control.  Proves they are allowing their buddies to make BIG profits. SoapBox [soapbox]  Retiring for teh evening.  Flying out tomorrow.  Sold quite a few chargers for the slow grand opening.  Most of the folks there now are just walking around and not buying anything.  Not sold a charger or had a real interested customer in 3 hours.  Train store never answered. Sad [:(]  Only one track out this way and no traffic on it.  Later.

Made the decision today, we are going to York, will be our first time and possibly only time. Need to find a motel and a membership application. Gas is $2.19 today and we'll take the car that get's 35 mpg, really looking forward to it. We'll go out early and do lots of sight seeing as neither one of us have ever been to PA and I do want to take in as much possible.

Beautiful night here, cool weather and a nice gentle rain--windows wide open. This is without a doubt my favorite time of year.

That's great, Jon! I've always been intrigued by York - too far away! My, I didn't expect Notre Dame to score so often today. Hope 'bout those White Sox giving up six or was it seven runs in an inning. Sigh.

Chief, you're reminding me I got to get a new battery for my car.

I'm pondering some track rearrangements to make better use of some of the otherwise out-of-use storage yards.

We have had some train meet people insadents here in Lewiston (my home town) and elderly man was hit by the local Gilford train that comes through right before a bridge that spanns some falls (waterfalls) and in an other insadent it was a teen was walking in the same area that the elderly man was walking in, it was the same engineneer on both accounts. I've been posting the Life saver on all the forums that I am partisapating in.

We had a real sad incident just one town away last month.

Luther, That sounds like a great vacation.  To bad my wife is not a train lover.

Laz,  It looks like you were right.  I should stay home from our HS football games.  What a letdown.  Our team took the initial kickoff and marched right down the field to score.  I guess the missed PAT was an omen as that was the last scoring we did.  Lost 32-6. Sad [:(]

Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

I think the elderly man lived because of the plow at the front of the engien.

Hi GIZ,

Better late then never?  Went to gun show today and trade a Styre 40 S&W for a SIG 229 S&W with night sites and $500 out the door.  I didn't like the Syter and shot my brothers SIG and really like it so I thought what the hey?

BIG news at the Gun Show found a Guy selling 1:50 Corgi Sherman Tanks and me and the brother got one each foe $35 bucks.  I got the Sherman that hit the beaches with the air in takes and he got the Sherman that was "Hell on Wheels".  Not to bad for both.

JELECTRIC, don't fret none we got hammered too on Friday, by Newport 42-21.

MITCH, Great fire had a few burgers and not too bad on the DOGS.  Had to have afew cold ones to cool down.

CHIEF, catching any trout out there?  Cook em up for breakfast and have some Idaho potatoes for breakfast.  Beats GRITS any dayWink [;)].

Penn State looses oh well not a state fan anyhow.  BAMA won though, YEY!

Going to York some time next couple of weeks to see the National Railway Museum, The Minster, The Roman Fortifications, The Norvic Centre that celebrates the invasion of the Norsemen in the 9th century.
The weather is beautiful late summer, Southport today. This too is my favourite time of year
It's 0630 GMT here, I am drinking a pint of hot sweet tea and listening to Garrison Keiler on National (US) Radio from The Greek Theatre in LA. You should try it. No advertisements!

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a cool 57 degrees right now. This is the earliest I have been up in a long time. It's still dark outside. Oh, how I miss the alarm clock and going to work. Going up to 80 today and a chance of isolated thunderstorms this evening, I hope it holds out until after the tour.

Today, we will drive to Buckeye's house, and tour the area Garden Railroads. The wife and I are looking forward to this. We will enjoy it. I will post some pictures for sure.

Off to the Dining Car. Early train. Later.

Y'all have a great day.

Chuck

Have a great Sunday every one.

Cass is a nice place to visit. When we were there on Saturady's you could tour the Machine shop where they fix the trains. There is a model of the town with a ho lay out, the saw mill is still partly standing and there is a meusum where you see a band saw blade that was used in the mill for processing the wood. The cars that you ride on up the mountain were used to bring timbers off the mountain to the mill. The parking lot was were they stacked the wood for sale and there is a letter from Orville and Wilbur Wright asking about  wood for there airplane. The view on top of Whittaker station is very buitiful. I would like to go back when the leaves are changing and see the view then and take the ride to the top of the mountain.

Operation life saver is a very helpful tool that N&W came up with and should go to schools and talk to kids and tell them what can and will happen when you get hit by a train. No one knows the damage that can occure from this untill you see it first hand. I spent 13 years on the Fire Dept. and seen a  train accident involving a semi truck and a train, the year that i joined a person was at a crossing  on a snowmobile and was struck by a train and they dont know if he didnt hear the whistle or was trying to race the train.

Morning all.  Skies are clearer here in Boise.  Getting ready to fly home.  Got to go to airport early [I usuallly do anyway] to get tickets straight.  Found out last night that the lady at Delta screwed these up too.  Spent an hour on the phone with Delta last night and they got it straight.  Guy was from some other country but spoke good English.  That sure helped.  I thanked him over and over.

I hear that Buckeye burned his furniture after the OSU game.  Shock [:O]Big Smile [:D]  Chuck, watch out for the exploding grits box car. Wink [;)]  Laz, wish I had time to trout fish.  Some great waters here for that.  Chat tomorrow as will be flying all day.  3 1/2 hours to Houston, 2 hours + hold over therer and 2 1/2 hours flight to RDU.  Also moving from MDT to EDT.  Have a good one and God bless.

Good luck on your trip, Chief.

Sunny here today.  Up too early.  Didn't get to bed until about 1:30 this AM and the dog woke me up at about 8.

We've got mice.  I hate field mice.  This is only the 2nd time in 10 years, though and our yard backs to woods, so it's not unexpected.  Put down a bunch of stick cardboard glue traps.  One had a pile of poop and pee on it today, so I guess the mouse was too smart for me.  Years ago I used poison, but with our little doggy I don't want to take a chance.  Any advice would be welcome, guys.

BTW - Char got a good eye exam yesterday and ordered glasses.  She is getting a slight cataract in the left eye and she needs to use better sunglasses, the doc told her.  $600 for a pair of glasses and a pair of prescription sunglasses.  We're both Federal Gov't employees and there is supposed to be some new insurance we can buy starting this year - need to look into it.  I expect at least one of the kids will need glasses and frankly I can really tell that my eyesight isn't what it used to be - just part of the process!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Peanut butter works the best on mouse traps, trust me, I've had years of experience as we basically live in a forest. Poison works well except for the smell of a dead mouse. Cats seem like the best bet except will never happen in this house.

Marty,

You missed a great day in the area yesterday.  Brady's Train Outlet in Greensburg had an open house at their new location.  Mike Wolf from MTH was there.  The new building is much bigger than the old one.  It was like walking into the show at the Expo Mart!  Here is Brady's website, although John has updated it yet.

Good Evening from Blueberryhill....

The wife and I had a great time with Mr. & Mrs. Buckeye today, touring the Columbus area Garden Railroads. A lot of beautiful railroads.

Roger's Corners has a new addition and is developing land quickly. The wife got to see the Duesenberg. She loved it. We ate in a real neat Dining Car. Northern barbeque.

Gas is getting cheaper here by the minute $ 2.12 a gallon.

I hope Chiefie has a good flight home and arrives before Wednesday.

Good Night all.

Weldman87:

The train we are catching in Elkins is the New Tygart Flyer. It is a 4 hour trip and is part of the Durbin and Greenbrier Valley Railroad of which the Durbin Rocket you mentioned is part of as well.

At Cass, I believe the wife booked the Spruce trip.

Dennis:

I also have the Cass Trains & Locomotives video on TiVO. The wife and I plan on watching it tomorrow.

Evening all!

Spent yesterday on the sofa suffering this cold (cough - cough - hack). Feel better tonight, but had to suffer through mowing the lawn this morning. Son helped me voluntarily for once. Gas here is still $2.40. We have all the oil but you guys have all the corn. Whoever thought ADM might become the largest energy producer?

Watching football all day and taking it easy.
