Good morning from a damp Illinois where it is gently raining as it does during 60% of our Labor Days. That guy they're chasing in western NY even made our local news. Can't believe he's been on the lam for five months. I'm v. sorry for that trooper's family.

Saw a neat little blurb in yesterday's paper that they are looking for volunteer trolley operators at the East Troy (WI) museum. They have an open house next Sat. They're about 40 minutes away - got me thinking about volunteering. Though I am richly blessed with the Il Railway Museum about 30 minutes away and the Fox Valley Trolley Museum about 40 minutes in the opposite directions.

With the rain, may get to run trains today.

Good morning everyone,

I woke up this morning to find that the wife had gone into fall housecleaning mode.  That means I stay as far away as possible, so to the basement for the day. Big Smile [:D]

Beautiful day here, sunny & cool, didn't check the temperature.

Doug,  I am surprised that they can find enough trollies to fill 3 museums.  It has been a long time since many of them have run.

David,  They had a special segment on the Today show about Steve Erwin.

Chief, When will you harvest turnips that you sow now?   I don't plant them as I am the only one in the whole extended family that likes them.  BTW if you do a google on dollhouse, you don't always get what you are looking for.  Found that out by experience! Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Doug(dagrump), That train food sounds really good.  Pork loin is one of my favorite foods.  In the winter months I try to do a family dinner once a month and that is always one of the favorite items.  May try your recipe.  We have a recipe that uses froozen hash browns with a cheese mixture, really good but not for people on low fat diets.

Jim, I posted an answer to your 027 question, check it out if you didn't already.

Some really good pictures on Sunday Photo fun yesterday.  Not to slight anyone, but Jon had some excellent shots of his layout.

Enjoy the rest of labor day.

Morning guys, Tom, did hear about Steve Irwin (Croc. Hunter).  It is amazing that the things he has done till now did not get him.  Really a shame, he has a 2yo child and had started a new series.  I have a friend from Australia.  She told me that he could not get insurance coverage as he was always getting hurt and taking risks.  I used to take a number of risks in my youth, but that all changed when I got married and had kids.

Well, happy Labor Day to y'all.  I am off and relaxing.  In honor of the day, I sent my wife to workWink [;)].  Of course, I am home with the crumb snatchers and working harder than I would if I had gone in.  Watched a little "I Love Toy Trains" on RFD this morning and will be watching Trains and Locomotives this afternoon.  Can't run trains today as I actually have too many "Honey Do's"

Have a great day.

I saw that this morning too, about Steve Erwin & was also shocked. I didn't think so many people watched his show. We don't watch too much but my wife & son always would watch him. We will miss him here also. What a shame.

Well, hope The Chief has a safe trip !!  Maybe he'll fly Continental !! That's his favorite & I just love their commercials !! The one where they take the pillow away & the giy bangs his head, and one guy has to give back his peanuts or something to the airline stewardess !! Laugh [(-D]Laugh [(-D]Laugh [(-D]Laugh [(-D]

Tom : with that many police looking for that guy, I don't think he's gonna get captured alive !!

Thanks, John

Ralph "Bucky" Philips is the convicts name. We went to Niagara Falls for vacation several weeks ago. Wasnt until the last day of camping that we found out this guy had been spotted just a few miles from the campground. My understanding was he was a car thief, and robber, but now killing an officer. I guess he is Half Indian and there is a Indian Reservation just east of Niagara Falls. He has friends there that are hiding him I guess.

Happy Labor Day to all.  Pleasant day here in Indiana.  I got the news about the croc hunter this morning.  I'm saddened by his going.  I really liked him even though I thought he's a nut.  Funny, but just yesterday I told my wife he'll die unexpectedly in the wild prematurely.  Here it is one day later--scary.  My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family.  Also thoughts and prayers go out to all suffering losses on this site or going through tough times.  thank heavens for a forum to pass along support to others anonymously--I'm not a big talker in public but appreciate the "distant" support I get here.  I'm guessing it's the same for other men here.

Too bad about the Croc Hunter. I admired his enthusiasm. I just rewired the R transformer to give 14-24 volts to the track instead of 8-16 - all of a sudden the long K-Line Santa Fe train with its lit cars is working better ...

Anyone know whether there is a web-resource which would list the make-up of some MPC-era train sets? I have two sets (belonging to my brothers) which I have mixed up - one headed by a Santa Fe diesel 8351 and the other by a Grand Trunk 2-4-2 #8042. I want to figure out what belongs with what from a scattered group of gons, flats and open hoppers.

Good afternoon all,

It is partly cloudy with temps in the 70s again in SE Indiana.  Cnw1995, I will try to look those up for you.  Early in the MPC years, Lionel would use the same engine with many sets so if you post the numbers off the cars, I may be able to peg it for you more closely.  Even the guidebooks can be off a little as I have a 1081 Wabash Cannonball set with cars that are not correct according to the books, but which I received from the original owner, who was not a train person as such.  I have most of the catalogs from that era and they can be helpful as well.

I ran the MTH 384E set last night, and I put weights in the boxcar to help it hold the track.  No derailments occurred in a hour of running, so it must have worked fairly well.  I watched the end of the NASCAR race as well.  It is too bad about the Crocodile Hunter as I enjoyed his appreciation of creatures with "alternative metabolical lifestyles".

I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Hidey Ho - just checking in today.  Wife and kids will be home in about an hour, then (maybe) going out to dinner with some friends.  Ate a sub sandwich for dinner last night from the grocery store and I "think" it didn't agree with me.  Not getting much work done on the basement today - hopefully I'll get into it tomorrow.  Too bad about the Crocodile Hunter.  I pray for his wife and child.

WOULD YOU BELIEVE!!!!!  Flying Continental back from Boise.  First time since July 1968.  Only decent flight back without going through everywhere and getting home the next day after I left.  SO, I guess we will give them a new try.

Day did not go as planned.  SIL came running int he door.  Pam's niece [that has the baby] was being thrown out by her live-in boyfriend.  Not happy with that situation but it is for the good.  No she does not have to divorce the SOB.  Little short lazy pot head.  So over I go and pack her up and move her to other SIL's who has spare bedroom.  We offered her the trainroom as it could be emptied real quick and she would have the upstairs for her own except when I ran trains in the other room.  Private bath and all.  She may do that but we are trying to find her a house in Roseyville.  She does not want to go back to Louisburg.  That is a trouble place.  After I got her moved [while the little short F'er kept running his mouth], she got the private lecture.  The one every young lady should here.  Like the one Robert Divoul gave in the guys in Second Hand Lion.  Seems Uncle Frank has to be head of the family.  Her Mom needs my lecture too [per Pam].  Pam's Dad [her Granddad] will not do it.  Niece's Dad lives in Charlotte and does not know what is going on [he is a sorry lot too].  Then I came home, mowed and disked the garden [except for tomatoes and peppers].  The turnips are sown.  Now to shower, eat and pack.  OH, picked and delivered big bag of apples for elderly couple.  Busy day.  Now you know why I do not have time to do a lo9t of train layout work  Later.

Dennis - glad your son is feeling better and I'll keep your sister-in-law in my prayers.  As you said they do work.

Back home tonight.  WIll be on the road some this week.  In fact, I will be near the great train store in Milford this week.  I guess I better go dig up the tin can with my train money from the back yard.

We were in NY when they announced the death of the state trooper.  Very sad.   We were stopped twice this weekend by road blocks manned by the troopers.  Once on US 20 near Brocton and then at a crossroads just north of our former place on the lake.   For you folks that are not familiar with western NY, it is very rural with hunting cabins and remote sugar camps.

Big train weekend coming next Sunday with the Garden Railroad Tour in Columbus.   Mr. Blueberry Hill himself is making the trip to Columbus with his lovely wife to join Mrs Buckeye and me on a tour of Columbus. They will see things they have never seen before.  Layouts are measured in hundreds of  feet of track and I hope to show them the 750 foot monster on the east side of the city.

Did you hear the good news?  A Buckeye is going to be the head of Amtrak.  Will Columbus still be the largest city in the Western Hemisphere without passenger service?

Boy I hate not being able to read past posts as I type.

Good morning, all.

I hope everyone had a great holiday weekend. We ran trains quite a bit as the weather was less than stellar. I particularly enjoyed watching our 2034 from 1952 run with a consist of post war rolling stock. Last night we ran the El Capitan and some Williams 2023s.

I hope I get to see the Chief tonight. We always have a good time together.

Have a good day, everyone.

Good morning all,

It is cloudy and in the 50s with temps heading to the 70s and more rain today in SE Indiana.  Today we find out the results of the CAT scan on Lucas, which will either be good news or bad.  I will post as soon as I find out.  I ran the 384E last night for over an hour.  It sure is relaxing.  I hope everyone (including myself) has a good day.

Keep on training,

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a cool 60 degrees and foggy. Rained last night. Going up to 73 and chance of rain, again today. I hope we haven't lost summer so quickly.

We had a great time with the Granddaughter yesterday. She ran the Big train outside and played with the remote car. It was a fun day.  Had a nice visit with the Daughter and SIL.

Today, is a normal day. So far. We have a few chores to  do and then take it easy. I need to finish my outside work before the real cold comes.

Chief....You have a safe trip.

Off to the Dining Car for breakfast. Later.

Y'all have a great day.

Good morning everyone,

Checking the pot before heading out to the fitness center.  Raining pretty good here right now.  Grass is making up for the past dry weather, you can almost see it growing.

Chuck, Hope you enjoy the Garden Railway tour.  They  have had those tours in our area in the past, but some time conflict always kept me from seeing them.

Buckeye, You are right about Western NY state, it is very similar to Northern PA.  A lot of remote country to hide in especially if this guy has any friends to help him.

Will check back later.

Greetings!  Off today - have the gas guy coming this morning to do a Fall check on the furnace and a dentist appointment at 1.  Still playing with track plans for Halloween - it's a smallish table top, about 8 ft by 3.5 ft, so limited with fastrack....  Thanks for the O-27 info guys!  I'm thinking to buy some on ebay and see how it works out.

Drizzling and gray in the St. Louis area.  Didn't get anything more done on the basement yesterday, but I am feeling better today (so far).  Mrs. Fortner and the kiddos made it home fine, although she got a speeding ticket on I-70 coming from KC.  Apparently they did radar from a plane???  She admits she was doing 77, but they clocked her at 81?  Anyway, there goes $100 plus an $8 fee.  How do you have a fee on a ticket, which is itself a fine?  Is that a fine fee or a fee fine?  I'd call, bu they might charge me to ask, in which case it would be a fee phone fine?  This would be amusing to some, making it fee - phone - fine - fun!  And that ain't Jack!

God be with you Mike - I pray the CAT scan comes back as improved!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Greetings from a sunny and warm Chicago where 50 miles to the west, at home, it is cold and rainy. So I overdressed. Today is the first day of home-school at the Murphy house too. What an adventurous Monday everyone seemed to have - yesterday was a good "training" day for us too with all the rain -- though my youngest got too enthusiastic with the whistle button - even for my ears...

Pray that Lucas' CT scan is clean: let us know.

Chief, big ad by Norfolk Southern in today's Wall St. Journal claiming they're so efficient they can move a ton of freight an average 410 miles on one gallon of diesel fuel.

Good morning everyone,

My dad and I got in a little fight yesterday about what happened to the car. The sensor for low tire pressure went on, and he checked every tire, but the right rear. A valve cap got stripped and wouldn't come off. He blamed it on me. I said to him, why would you think I would do that? Don't you remember that people stole the other one's  off? He ignored me. Then we took it to the National Tire & Battery center to have them check it out. They said the tires were fine, but they couldn't take the stem cap off.

My dad took it to the Chrysler Dealership this morning, and there were 2 things, 1) was that ALL the tires had low pressure, and that 2) the stem cap was able to be removed. The guy at the National Tire and Battery didn't check the tire pressure, he only checked to see if there wa a leak in it. My dad was mad about that. But my dad hasn't apologized for accusing me of something I didn't do.

Hope Lucas's test results are clean.

Talk to you all later,

Colin

Good morning all,

Our (and I do mean "our") prayers have been answered.  The CAT scan showed NO sign of cancer at all.  Blow the train whistles and sound the horns!  Lucas still has three weeks of chemo, but they are going to wait a week to start it up again as his white cell count is a little low.  Still, this is fantastic news!  After all the ups and downs of the past few weeks, this is tremendously good news!  I would like to thank all of you for your thoughts, kind words and prayers.

Keep on training,

Mike, that is great news.  I know he has a bit longer to go, but you have one Big hurdle behind you.  I will continue to keep your family in my prayers.

Chief, sorry to hear of your difficulties.....anywhere but the train roomSad [:(]  I have noticed that as the kids come along, I lost a computer room, a reloading room, and a gun room.  Oh well, we just trucking along.  At least I have the one room for the layout and my guns are still in the house.  Look forward to getting my benchwork done and run some trains.

Take care,

SHH, I am being quite.  I'm behind enemy lines way up Nawth.   Strowed rain all over PA as I flew over.  Big Smile [:D]  Now I'm going to wash these New England Yankees. Wink [;)]  Great flights and no delays as so early.  Left home at 5AM.  Flight origninated at RDU so did not have to wait for plane to arrive, it was there.  Same for plane in Philly coming to Manchester.  Meetinng this PM.  Partner has not called me so I do not think he has made it here, yet.  May hold up the meeting.  I f not finished too late, will go to Jim A's tonight.  Not a bad trip.  Hit the interstate and dirve across the MA line and turn left.  Then it gets a little more complicated.  Flying out tomorrow PM to ID.  Long trip.  Got portable DVD player.  WC is saying rain in ID while I'm there.  Guess I'll strow rain all the way to MN [bet I fly over Chicago so Doug M will get wet too]. Smile [:)]  Looking forward to the party at the Boise Depot.  Got camera so hope to take some pictures and then get some pictures of "Western" trains while I'm there.  Going to run.  Later.

BTW: the rain falling on your Yanks is to help make the grits [I strowed from the plane] swell up. Shock [:O]Evil [}:)]Wink [;)]
