Evenin' All,

Hope everybody is starting to dry out now that the worst of Ernesto is gone. Don't know which is worse, all that rain or this Censored [censored] heat and humidity.

We had one heck of a day at the museum yesterday. All of my engines ran fine, for a change, it was everyone else that had some problems of one form or another. But all problems aside I laughed so hard I almost cried.

It was my turn to bring lunch so they were kinda like my lab rats testing a new recipe, some really nice pork loin chops marinated in real maple syrup, soy sauce and garlic then grilled on my electric B-B-Q (I was out of propane). Also used some frozen hash browns to make some scalloped potatoes, gettin' lazy in my old age(Big Smile [:D]) It all got Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup] from my running partners.

Now, with regard to being first on page 1,000 please send all monetary rewards to my home. I'll see that all proceeds go to the museum, minus my customary 95% commission of course. Laugh [(-D] Mischief [:-,]

MARTY, oh well at least you can do a run and you still can do some push ups and sit ups.  Hang in there a little workout is better then none.

Hope ROY had a great time in WILLOUGHBY?

Plumbing day.  Well, Jeff cooked off a couple 90 degree elbows, we put on T's, and we went from there.  He did 90 percent of the work as usual.  He's got skilz.  Put in 2 ball shut-offs and roughed the plumbing to the drops for a sink, a toilet and the shower.  Couldn't put the valve together, since I scrapped out that broken shower stall, though.  Need to rough in the wiring tomorrow for the bathroom and about 8 outlet boxes in the "play room" area.  I'll also rough in the bedroom if I have time.  That should kill a day.  If I get it done faster than expected, I'll rough in the light switches and start putting in the insulation.  Jeff had the good idea to put in extra boxes and run tv cable to them.  I think I'll grab a bunch of that blue tubing and just run that = it's just a couple bucks per length.  Then, I can always snake cable or whatever I want through there.  They might have a whole new kind of cable in a few years.  Anyway, it's not leaking and the water is back on.  It's been Miller time for acouple hours.  Need to watch another dvd and then go to bed - plenty of work for tomorrow.

Every once in a while you make a real good friend - the kind who hears you took a weekend off to run wire and shows up with tools and skilz.  Thank God for good friends.  God bless Dennis's son and sister, Lucas, and all the rest of us too.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It's a cloudy 62 degrees. Only going up to 67 today. Maybe rain. Wish we could get some sunshine again. I'm not ready for Fall, so quickly.

Today is a slow day. We may have company, Paula's Niece later. Tomorrow, we will have the Grand Daughter, for the day. I hope the weather clears and I can put the Blue Comet outside. That would be fun.

I am off to the Dining Car for breakfast. Talk more later.

Y'all have a great day.

Hello All.

Glad to hear the storms have passed through without too many problems for folks.

I had a great train day yesterday with plenty of time to work on the layout. I was able to finish up the installation of the first dwarf signal, start the layout of my 2nd control panel and get the bench work reinstalled for a siding. I had removed the siding bench work so that I could access an area that was out of reach to begin getting scenery in place. I also started on-line “window” shopping for traffic lights and street lights.  These will go into a small city street scene I am planning for one corner. Seems there is a short supply of O Scale stop signs out there. If anyone knows of a good source please let me know.

I got up this morning and ran trains for an hour or so. The Hot Box reefer was a strong smoker this day – it seems hit or miss. I think the secret lies in a lot of smoke fluid. It also seems to perform better when it is stored with a few drops in the reservoir.

This afternoon I anticipate more time in the train room, continuing to wire up signals and sidings. I need to head to Home Depot to get a fine saw blade for my jig saw to cut down some plexi-glass.

Hope y'all have a good one.....

Good afternoon,

Took a break from the dollhouse project to work on a gas station/garage.  Bought a Lemax called Al's garage and resigned it for one of my grandaughters.  It is now Kimmy's Garage.  She likes to work on cars with her Dad so now she has her own garage.  Need to install lighting, I don't use the 120 volt lamps, but install low voltage lighting.  Don't like to have 120 volt wiring running around the layout.  Will post a pic when done.

Will now have businesses for all of the grandchildren on the layout but two.

Rain is over here & Sun is shining.  Totaled 1.8 inches for this storm.  Just a nice amount as we really needed some rain.  Grass is already greening up.

A nice labor day to everyone.

Good afternoon all,

It is cloudy and in the 70s in SE Indiana.  Dennis, I am glad your son is better, and I hope your sister-in-law beats this cancer as well.  She will be on my prayer list.  The line for the visitation for my mom was amazing.  I knew she did a lot and was involved in a lot of activities, but the line started forming at 3 and did not let up until after 6.  There were many special thoughts, but the one that was most special was when the ENTIRE girls soccer team showed up as a group.  It meant a lot to my dad and my daughters, but it was very special to me.  I go to the games and cheer long and hard, and I wonder sometimes if the kids appreciate the support.  I guess they do.  The church was packed for the funeral services, and the funeral meal afterward was full of people.  We spent the rest of the day with family at my dad's.  I think he will have a tough time getting over this, but we have a lot of family to help him get thru this.

I am glad nobody got flooded out too badly.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

man, been busy trying to clean up the house b/c can't find any of my tools. Missed all the hoopla that must have accompanied going to page 1K. Congrats all for chawin the fat!

up in my neck of virginia (away from DC metro area), the guys are out firing their potato (potatoe?) guns.

They makeem with PVC and fill with hairspray or gas fumes and ignite it. Can launch a potatoe about 1,000 feet if it's done right. They shoot watermelons with these homemade cannons. If you shoot spam out the end, it'll spread out nicely in an area the size of a football field, same with grits.

Mike,

thanks for the kind thoughts.  Also, same to you.  I am sure you and your family have been through a lot in the last few months.  My prayers for God's peace and comfort to you and your family.

On the train side of things, We went to Tuesday Morning tonight and I found a Lego train set for my son.  It is the passenger set and I bought the transformer for it as well.  Also found a few 1/50th fire engines that will go well with the layout.  Of course right now, the vehicle side of the scenery is about 50% fire apparatus and 30% convertables and the rest buses and military vehicles.  I do need to get some hard top cars and trucks for the rest.

Evening everyone,

Well things are drying out here now and I think Monday will be nice. All the holiday festivities in the area were postponed till tomorrow.

Some sad news today. One of the Troopers shot by the escaped convict died. It's pretty sad. I think we need to keep his family in our prayers. They say there are 150 officers on each shift looking for the guy. Some of the local communities are really turned upside down. John, I had not heard that this guy might be in Ohio. They sure don't act like that around here. Marty, you said your driver was from Jamestown. I was wondering who that was. It's not a big town and I was wondering if I know him.

Have a good Labor Day all.

Shock [:O]Wink [;)]  Just got in from in-laws.  Comfortable weather.  Sat one deck most of the night [with oil bug lamps going].  Seemed nice.  Late checking back in.  Got to mow tomorrow and sow turnips.  Then pack for my six day trip.  Need some microwave popcorn before hitting the sack.  GOOOOOOD NIGHT and don't let the bed bugs bite.

Good Morning to all and  Happy Labor Day.

Went up the creeper yesterday. nice ride. That trail used to be the NW Abingdon Branch.

March 31 1977 last train ran over it and by Oct 1978 all of the track was gone. From what I have

been told that it almost was lost forever. All of the ROW that ran thru NC went back to landowners

from MP 34 to the juction in Abingdon became a trail after the forrest service and the towns of

Damascus and Abingdon from the summit at Whitetop to mile post 16 is US Forest Service .

Sept 1 the USFS socked a surcharge for shuttle operators in Damascus of 6.5% of receipts, also

all of the dozen or so operators post a 10k bond yearly. around 250-300k people use the service

yearly. on nice days traffic is heavy on the 18 mile segment from 34-16 .  there have been several

accidents on that segement because people just dont pay attention and ride too fast. all of the 34 to 16

is on decending grade.  Whitetop Station was the highest point for a standard gauge passenger train

east of the Rockies. But yesterday if the surcharge  had any effect on patronage i didnt notice it.

Death to report.

You know that guy from Australia who chases alligators, snakes and stuff and is always on TV?

Heard on NPR radio that he died from a stingray attack during a filming. He was 44.
