Had a delightful hour and a half to run trains whilst watching the World Cup on the Spanish channel - yes, I'm getting sucked into it a bit - I guess I'm getting jaded about the success of the White Sox - after 20 years, how can I be jaded? Tried to add the Williams REA reefer to the GG1 and K-Line Santa Fe passenger set - it's still derailing on a curve in the far corner of the layout - I'm not sure why. Planted all my telegraph poles and even had a brainstorm to find a way to plant more crops for one of the farms - punched pipe-cleaners through a brown paper bag - looks like crops coming up

Doug - If your running the reefer at the head end of the consist it may be too light and stringlining. Try adding weight, my notes are out in the train room but if I remember I bring problem cars up to 5oz + 1 oz per inch of length. Do a search, I believe car weights have been discussed before.

Good luck.

Good evening all,

It is cloudy and muggy in SE Indiana with temps in the low 80s. A cold front is supposed to come thru and break the humidity. I really enjoyed the F-1 race Sunday even tho the American did not last long. It did cool off enough tonight to run the standard gauge tonight. I also flew the helicopter car last night. I hope everybody has a good day.

Keep on training,

I hope everyone had a great 4th of July. We just returned from the lake and had a great visit with TomS and his wife. Visited Art Craft Trains in Hamburg, NY in their new store. I forgot to get a photo of the Pennsy 2-4-0 sitting behind their store.

Back on the road tomorrow. [:D]

Big party over. While wife was standing around being "Miss Hostess", I had this tall brunette helping me cook [on her big new gas grill she brought from a few doors down]. [:0][;)] We all ate and ate and then went to the back fence with our chairs and watched the fireworks. [:)] Everyone just left. Happy 4th to all. God bless.

Hope all had a good 4th of July. It was mob city at the museum from start to finish, in the neighborhood of 2500 visitors. My feet are still tired, we are skipping the fireworks just to pooped.
Great news from the Supremes with regard to the Cross on Mt Soledad. The lower courts decision hasn't been reversed but put on hold to allow for all legal remedies to explored.

Doug, Maybe their is hope afterall, it would be a tragic loss if the Cross had to come down. 2500 people wow that's alot. Doesn't surprise me though, I would imagine Balboa Park was really swarming with people

Spent evening at In-Laws, they can have fireworks there, and boy was their ever alot!
Thankfully no one got hurt or damage. Can rest easy for another year.

Installed TMCC in a UP Speeder and a Beep today. I think I am going to put a siren in the speeder. Made a Pinewood Derby car a few years back and made a CHP patrol car as a joke for all the kids. It had a siren that ran on a hearing aid battery, it is activated by being jarred. I had canobilized it out of some little car. Could be a hit at the Train Club.

Talk to you all later.

Good morning from Gettysburg. It is currently 70 with a light rain falling.

No progress on the shelf layout except for the purchase of some more wood ( to replace a pieced together section) and some track screws.

Went to a great concert at the College. Sound of America Honor Chorus and Band. Great talent and a great show. They are off to Europe for an 18 day tour. I'm sure they will have a great time and represent our country well.

Have a great day.

[code]Good Morning from Blueberryhill[/code]It is 60 degrees here with cloudy skies and a big chance
of rain. Going up to 82 today. No sunshine in sight....
Today I will run some errands and pick up groceries. Have to go into Cambridge and
make a few stops. Busy. No time for trains. Darn.
Sounds like everyone had a good, safe 4th. They cancelled the fireworks here due to
heavy rain. No new date as of yet.
Well, off to breakfast.
Y'all have a great day.

Morning all.

CSXT30? Do we know a CSXT30? A birdy told me he has a birthday. [bday][bday]
John, are you 95 [going by your picture, I'm sure the birdy had the numbers reversed [;)]]? Happy Birthday Hope you have a great one and many more.

Another hot and humid day. Not much left in the clean up line from the cookout. Says we are to get rain later and into tomorrow. Hope so. Thought I was getting a storm around 3:30 AM. Thundered and lightning but it turned and went north. Was probably a bad one and we send all bad stuff Nawth. [;)]

Have a good one and God bless all.

Good morning from a sunny and pleasant Chicago.
Happy birthday, John!! [:D]
Dennis, thanks for the advice on adding weight to the REA car. Tonight I'm going to see how I could take apart the car to put weight within it. Also going to try to talk the family into going to one of the last remaining drive-in movie theaters in the area this week.

Doug, you near Bass Pro Shops? Fishing weights work wonders in train cars. I buy differnet sizes and stick them in with the old black windshied sealing rope [I think you can still get it at automotive stores]. Strong holding stuff and only a little does the trick [why I still have a little left from the 80's] and can be reused over and over. BPS also has some flat lead bars for melting. I cut them up and weight older Lionel engines.

That's a great idea, Chief. I was just going to poke around is see what I had in the garage - this would be a better way of calculating the amount of weight as Dennis suggested.

Good morning all,

It is sunny and mild in SE Indiana with temps heading to the high 70s. Happy birthday, CSXT30! I have a soccer game tonight, and I hope everyone on the team shows up so I do not have to play the entire game. I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Good morning, and Happy Birthday to John!!!

Been very busy lately. Haven't read the Coffee Pot thread in a few weeks. But did manage to drop by a train store on Sunday and saw way too many items that I wanted to take home. I saw a nice set of Lionel NYC streamliners that I couldn't resist. I also bought a Lionel NYC box car for $12 new in the box. It's an aqua cigar band version.

Then I went online and ordered the new FasTrack book and *** Teal's repair book.

Somebody stop me before I spend again!

I hope everyone had a great 4th. We went to a cookout and had a lot of great stuff to eat.

Summer is flying by. The kids are getting brown as berries, even with sunscreen.

Enjoy your birthday, John!

Jim

Doug, one of the tips and tricks books suggests placing heavy magnets to the bottom of the frame, if it is a metal frame., or you could place it inside the car.

Hope y'all are having a great day. We got to see some fireworks from the top of the hospital. It was great, no crowds, and no bugs. Not much else going on today. I am on call, so I hope to get some reading time in on some final plans for the layout. Then, the big order from The Train Station to get some fastrack. I may need to get some advice on benchwork from the Chief.[:-^] Right now, I am checking out the Voyages show on HIstory International. It is on The Trains of War.
Have a great day.

Hello All! [bday][bday] to CSXJohn. Hope the candles on your Cake did not set off any Fire Alarms[;)][:D][:o)] Dennis- The Chief still uses his patented carpet system for layouts. No Benchwork required![;)][:P][:D] Jim A- Sounds like you're on a shopping spree for trains. No 1688s yet?[;)][:)] Don- Like your idea for a siren in the small CHP Car. Now you need a Firetruck version.[;)] Take Care & have a nice day all.

Going to set off fireworks from Mt. Seaman tonight to recognize John's big event.
Dennis, where do you suppose I could get some big magnets? Neat idea.

Yankees can't get brown. No sun up Nawth in New England. [;)] BTW: We have blue berries, black berries and you have cranberries. Brown berries???? Think that is something the birds left behind from eating blue berries. [:0]

Everything cleaned up and put away. Took the neighbor lady's big gas grill home. Now wife wants buy a big gas grill. [had one when we married and she was scared to light it] We'll see. She refuses to have a gas range. Told her Martha cooks on gas and all the folks on the Food Network [she watches]. She will not light the gas logs. [Roseyville has natural gas]

Colling off and then running trains. BTW: installed new light fixture in train room. See, making progress. [;)]

Chief,
Why buy a "big gas grill?", (that's train money, or layout) just borrow the one from

" this tall brunette helping me cook [on her big new gas grill she brought from a few doors down". [:O][}:)] - That would be the gentlemanly thing to do. And maintatin that famous southern hospitality.

Just a thought....

Doug, I have magnets that I have saved from such things as CB antennas that were being tossed, or, we have matts with lots of little magnets that they use during surgery to keep instruments from falling off the table. You may want to check radio shack or one of the hobby stores near you. You could take the strip magnets like they use on refrigerator doors to keep photos up and just use several. I know WalMart sells them in the craft section.

Good Evening Everyone & THANKS for all the Happy Birthaday greetings !! [:D][:D]
I had an email from there also telling me happy birthday, & for some reason, I ddn't think it would get by TheChief !! [:D][:D]
Doug; good one on the fireworks at Mt. Seaman !! [:D][:D] Also, if you have an R/C model shop near you, they should have the sticky backing tape on magnets that you break off just the right amont of weight you need. They have the amount of weight stamped on each piece.
Well, just got done having a big steak for supper tonight !!
Thanks again,
