Good morning from a hazy and humid northeastern Illinois. $2.80 a gallon, Chuck? What a bargain! It's $3.09 here and rising rapidly again for some reason - up a dime in the past week. I was fortunate to pay as little as $2.69 while on the road during the vacation. Oh well, can't do anything about it.

Chief, what is a nuclear stress test? Sounds scary.

You'll just gave me an idea. Maybe I can scare up enough family to go to the Illinois Railway Museum during this weekend. I missed my traditional Father's Day visit. Somehow I think the bride isn't interested. I just reminded her I'm going to the Busch race at Joliet next Sat and she went ballistic ... apparently we have other plans - but I'm still going. Thank goodness I could show her where I put it on the family calendar... So I'm ducking for the rest of the day [B)]

Mitch - sorry about your son's stuff, that stinks. Did he ask the owner about it? Maybe they would swing him a couple rent-free months or something to make up for it?

Chuck - we're not taking a vacation this year due to sudden need to pay babysitter since work-at-home is currently on hiatus, plus the cost of gasoline and parking every day. What a bummer of a Summer. Oh well, it could be a lot worse. At least there aren't lines at the pumps and rationing every day like in the 70's.

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Good morning all,

The two youngest granddaughters are spending the day with me and Na-na today while the parents go to a Wedding. I made breakfast for them & now they are watching a video with Na-na. I sneaked away to work on the stockyard a little. Can't do a lot at one time, the old nerves get to me after about an hour of the delecate work, so I am checking the pot.

Doug, Since the Chief is not on, I will answer your question. A nuclear stress test is one in which they inject something to make your body think you just climbed Mt Everest (Instead of making you walk on a treadmill until you just about calapse). It is really a wierd feeling.

Mitch,
Would you do me a favor and offer a salute toward the area just north of the tracks, east of Stratton Avenue at Coster Avenue. An ancestor of mine, with cousins, neighbors, and some 400 friends gathered for an afternoon in your hometown. Twenty Five minutes later 46 were dead on the field, 151 wounded (including Alanson Lester), and 59 captured. Of 430 men only 27 were able stand muster at the top of East Cemetery Hill that night. July 1st 1863.
My ancestor survived to have many Train Rides (Hospital Corp) before being discharged as unable to return to service. It is said he was happy to receive his $8 a month pension for his service. He lived to see better trains and airplanes fly. His life was good, and I thought he deserved a small salute in his honor.
Many Thanks, Ken Lester

Ken,

Consider it done. What a neat story. I believe one of my father's distant uncles served at Gettysburg. My son has a friend who is doing an internship with the National Park Service this summer. He is supposed to be doing some research on this person.

Have you ever been to Gettysburg? I will try to get a photo of the area and post it this weekend.

Take care,

Mitch

Thanks Mitch. We have been to Gettysburg a number on times. I never knew the family history there until a few years ago. Thanks again, remembering the past always makes the future better.

Not really. It is radioactive dye that goes to the heart .muscle That way they can see how your heart is pumping blood and etc before exercise [they xray your heart then] and then you get on tread mill and get your heart rate up to level for your age [took me 9 minutes], inject more dye and then you rest a few minutes. Dr. was happy as my heart rate dropped back below 100 in a short time at rest. Then xray you again and see what that causes in your heart. Not a techincal version but gues you get the "jest" of it. Now they can inject something else [probably adrenalin] and make your heart rate go up without the tread mill.

Went to pond at 6:30 and stayed until 10:30. Went back in 15 minutes and sprayed Roundup on the paths as grass had come back after the big rain. Left at 12:30. No horses. [:(!][}:)][;)] Checked it a few minutes ago and still no tracks. Guess they knew I was waiting. [B)] I'll catch them. I really am waiting to see if they try to pullup post and etc. If so, then I will "lecture" them. [;)]

Good evening everyone.
Had a nice chat with the CHief, he sounds good and it is great that he had good results from his test.
John, the test you are thinking of is a Thalium Stress Test, which as you suggested, makes the heart work hard, without the actual physical test (treadmill). The nuclear test is done so that you can actually test the function of the heart by tracking the rate at which it beats, and how much is pumped per beat.
Have my son's 4th birthday tomorrow. While we had celebrated with a bunch of kids last week at Chuck E Cheese, tomorrow is for our family. Of course that is after the church activities as they are having a big "freedom fest", but we don't like the crowds, so I will just go set up and then head out of dodge.
Well, have some layout planning and some sleep to get to. Have a good weekend and 4th. Please remember to thank vets and current soldiers as our freedom came at a very high price.

Good morning from Gettysburg. It is another gorgeous morning. Currently 69 with light breeze. Supposed to get devilishly hot today for us with temps in the mid to upper 90's. I pity those reenactors who walk around town in their full dress wool uniforms and the women in the long hoop skirts.

I got the shelf around the wall almost finished yesterday. Just a few more finishing touches and then I can lay some track and test things out, No photos yet, but maybe tomorrow. I know I will not fini***oday as we are going to my sister and brother-in-law's house for a cookout. We'll leave right after church and be gone all day. They live near my parents which is an hour and a half away.

Hope everyone has a great day.

[code]Good Morning from Blueberryhill[/code]It is 73 out right now and sunny. Going up to close to 90
today. Hot day. Sunshine. Maybe a late thunderstorm.
Today is a quiet day, so far. We will stay home and relax. Maybe cook out later. It's nice
to take a day and just rest. ( Try it, Chief).
Well, it has been 9 weeks that I am home from the hospital. Healing up takes time.
It's nice to breathe normal. Haven't smoked since Dec. 30th, 2005. Don't want to.
OK, enough of that. Time for breakfast. Talk more later.
Y'all have a great day.

Mornin' All,
Besides being hotter than [censored] and sticky as well the weather is great, for the electric company. That movie "The Fast And The Furious" originally wasn't about cars, it was about my electric meter spinning so hard it will probably need new axles and bearings at the end of the season. [:O] I do not like living in AC.
Will be at the museum on the fourth, should be an extremely busy day since the holiday also coincides with the museums free day. Need to go out and hit some of the local haunts, Michael's etc, to find some decorations to fix up some USA B'day gondolas. Anybody got any ideas? Wish I had a vat car, use as a condiment car, I'd pick up some of those dog toys that resemble burgers and hot dogs to put together a "Fourth Of July Picnic Train".
Also have to do some yardwork but that will wait till VERY LATE this afternoon.
All have fun and play safe.

Good morning from a wet and dark northeastern Illinois. After a loooong morning at church - setting up and running the services - with my bride in an elaborate children's drama - hope it stops so we can go to our neighbor's cookout. Have a good day all. Thanks for the info on the stress test - glad it went well!

Good afternoon,

Chief, Guess I had the other version of the nuclear stress test. At the time I had it, I also had a bum knee and couldn't do the treadmill. Be sure to check out the Sunday photo fun, some of your favorite colors. Looks like you have discouraged the riders.

Taking it easy today after babysitting all day yesterday. Cookout scheduled for Tuesday the my son's place.

Afternoon all. Went to Early Church, Sunday School , checked pond [all OK] and then to BIG buffet with friends [Frankie's Captain with Sheriff's Dept and his wife {Pam's choir friend}]. Ate the whole thing. Seems good to be home on a weekend. Took a snooze when I got home. [:)] Got to think about this Church thing. Sang patriotic songs. That is until the last one. Battle Hymn of the Republic. [:0] I sang Dixie. [;)]
Chuckster, resting today. [:0] Got to mow again tomorrow and get ready for our annual 4th of July cookout [hot dogs and hamburgers cooked by the Cheif]. Remember Roseyville has big fire works display [over 10,000 folks come each year to see]. We do a big cookout and then watch them from our back fence [which is across the field from the fire works in the park].

Think I'll run trains.

Later.

Hot here in Arnold - cut the lawn and the left rear wheel on the mower finally gave out - it's been bending out for a while. Some little metal tab disappeared. ANyway - I "fixed" it with a C-clamp for the time being and finished mowing. Trimmed some bushes and helped my son pick it all up. Fun to see him wear a pair of my work gloves[;)]

Thinking of taking down all the lego stuff so we can have the whole livingroom back - but don't know if I could get my wife to let me put it back up again...[8]

Chief - what do you mean watching the fireworks from the backyard..[:O] As Lord Mayor, and any good politician, you should be at the public viewing shaking hands, kissing babies (and mothers) and slapping backs[(-D]

Today's weather in a word -HOT!

To get out of the heat spent quite a bit of time running trains today. A quick review on the Lionel dbl. door boxcar: it is big, comparing it to a Std. O it is like a Std. O vs an O gauge car. It is the height of an extra high boxcar, the one with the white stripe at the top of the end and about a 1/2" wider. There are items along my right-of-way that bru***he car that don't come near to touching passenger cars.

Have a good evening all.

Wake up gang. Good morning all. Got to mow [change blades today] and then soak the garden a little. That will make it rain. Usually rains right after I spray the garden, grape vines, peach tree and apple tree [didn't the other day]. [B)] Got tons of little apples and grapes. Good crop of peaches too. Good morning from Gettysburg. Some light showers this AM very early. Supposed to be very hot - mid 90's - again today with a chance of a thunderstorm or showers later on.

Yesterday was interesting. Had dinner at my sister's house. Ribs and chicken, potato salad, cole slaw, baked beans, fresh fruit. Excellent chow. After eating we helped my nephew pack and move out of his apartment. He had two roomates that had abandoned him and some hoodlum friend of one of the roommates was squatting there. We loaded up in force and ran this guy off along with the teenage bimbos that were hanging there. We packed everything up and changed the locks on the door to keep this butt-head from getting back in the place and trashing it. Three hours and we had the whole place empty except for some junk that belonged to the roommate that had walked out on the lease.

Hope to finish laying track and get some photos of the shelf layout this AM. Well I better get some breakfast and get going.

Talk to you later.

Mitch

Good morning,

A little rain yesterday and last night, total of .4". Not a good weather forecast for the 4th. Hope it lets us sneak in a cookout.

Off to the fitness center shortly. May work on the long running stockyard a little this afternoon. About half way done.

Will check back later.

Good morning everyone,

I have been away for awhile at camp with a great group of HS kids. We did a lot of work to get ready for the next year of youth ministry in WNY. These are the youth leaders who plan and carry out large youth events for other youth. Besides getting a lot of work done we were able to have a ton of fun, laugh a lot and play some too.

I plan on seeing Buckeye and his wife tonight. We are going out on Lake Chautauqua for a cruise on his boat and dinner at a waterfront restaurant. Hopefully the weather will be decent. Right now it looks a little "iffy." It also could depend on how my wife's back feels. She slipped in the garage on Saturday and landed very hard on her lower back. She is very sore and having a hard time sitting. If the lake is a little rough the boat ride could be painful with all that bouncing over the waves. If there are any messages for Buckeye let me know and I will pass them on.

We have had a large state police presence in the area lately. There is an escaped convict who shot a trooper loose and hiding in the woods. This is a very rural area so he has a lot of places to hide. I saw at least 25 if not more trooper cars heading out to look for him this morning.

Mitch- I want to hear more about that shelf layout. I have posted some pics here before of mine. It travels around the walls of the family room.

Have a great day everyone.
