Jon, Congrats! On the pink train, probably better off trying to find a 2037 and have it painted pink.

Chief, all those purchases? We may need to save you on the domestic front rather than from the yankee horde. Sorry, not interested in MTH engines. Just not my game. If I do go command, it will be Lionel.
Have a great weekend all,

In reference to non-belpaire fireboxes on PRR Mikados; see Pennsy Power , page 59. This is not the only example .The J's and some E's come to mind. I'm sure there are more.

Congrats Jon.

Jefelectric the last unit was a demo, and was sold to the Elgin, Joliet, and Eastern RR.

Nothing much to report today, just a normal day.

Jefelectric , The PRR L2s did not have a Belpaire firebox and could serve as the prototype for the K-Line Mikado. See Pennsy Power , page 59 . Prr also had some E's and ,most notably , theJ's and some others, with radial stays.

Congratulations JON!

Is she a Hawkeye?

Marty, anyone that flies as much as you do, derserves first class seats on every trip with a lobster or steak dinner.

Colin, good story.

For you teachers out in the country, at least you have parents. We always kid my wife that Columbus teachers supplement their income by turning in parents to the police after they see them on America's Most Wanted or the local Crime Stoppers.

Buckeye--

Not sure if she will be a Hawkeye fan or not, both Mom & Dad graduated from Truman State........ and they live in the land of the UNI Panthers

One thing we do know, she will be a Cub fan, not an option even though that's a heavy cross to carry. And ASAP she will be helping me run the trains!

I really like my K-Line PRR Mikado. It's great having a PRR engine that doesn't have a Belpaire firebox.

I'm curious, anyone here reserving or considering reserving a 3RD Rail PRR K5s? They are pretty expensive but may be a real rare item if they actually get built.

Evening. I thought Houston was slooooow. Pearl is even slower. Clouding up and I guess more rain. Like I said earlier, $200 a day and all expenses and I will fly into your area and make it rain. [;)] Time for TV and microwave popcorn. Ate at Lone Star today for lunch. Pleanty of sweet ice tea. [:D] Dennis, I think you are a very wise Southener. I do know that folks in MS can NOT drive worth a hoot. Later

PS: heard a good one today. This is for dougsnotagrump. Since the Mexicans are taking over CA, give it to them, put a big wall around it and make it the big American prison. The judge says, "You are senctenced to life in CA." [:0]

Hello All:

I was out in Las Vegas for a business meeting yesterday and got back today. We took little John to the zoo on Wednesday by train and he loved it! He can't wait to go on another train ride. I will post pictures once I get the film developed.

Good evening everyone, nice mild weather here in Western MI. I'm really enjoying my new Big Boy engine, even if its on a small oval right now. As its a PS2 engine, im getting acquainted with the DCS features and different commands. One thing's for sure, its alot easier to activate the freight yard sounds than it was with my PS1 engines....had a tough time remembering what button to hold and how to activate it.

@ JeffPo, I also have a crane car and it's matching tender in layaway right now, and its the CSX model. I am thinking that I might build me a CSX freight train, based on alot of the CSX cars I have seen at the hobby shop, ranging from the boxcar to tanker car. Eventually those will be joining my collection as well.

Job status, things seem to go very well. The company that I am driving for locally through a leasing company has offered me an application to transfer me on their payroll. I guess its too expensive for them to be paying the big fees they have to pay to lease us. Of course they really like how I work as well, given that I was offered the app in such a short amount of time. If all works out, after 90 days I will be getting $14/hr and .34 cents per mile (versus the $13 im getting now). So seems like a good deal, but I still intend to go back to school though so that I can get a degree in something.

I have roughly 2 more weeks until my flight to Houston for a couple days. I know that I will be really nervous as that time approaches. I am hoping that I can take a few freight cars and an engine along with me so that I can run them on my brother's layout he has right now. I will need to find a suitable carryon bag to place them in, but the problem is the size of the boxes, especially the engines and fitting them in the bag. I would have drove like I always did, but unfortuantely the cost of gas round-trip to and back from Houston exceeded the cost of the plane ticket, so I decided to go the plane route this time.

I know for some flying is nothing to you like the Cheif and a few others, but when you havent stepped on a plane in 13 years, it will take alot to get the feel of it again. I am sure I will be ok though.

My younger brother sent me some pics last week of the big oval layout he made using the FasTrack and the O-72 curves I sent him last month. Looks quite good too, and he really likes it. He also likes being able to run the trains at a faster speed w/o worrying about the engines turning over on the sharp curves. He is also using the RRTrack software pretty well too, and seems to know how to design his layouts. With being an A student and taking honors and GT courses, he's a really bright and smart young man. I'm quite proud of him. [:)]

Well tomorrow I am going to a friend of mine's chorus competition, which is going on in Grand Rapids this weekend. I really hope they shine getting first place because they sound quite good. I always enjoy listening to them whenever I can.

Gonna try to get some video editing done this weekend as well. Hope everyone has a good one!

Good evening,

I stand corrected on the Mikado. I am not a PRR expert and spoke more from what I remember than from any research. Have only read a few books on the Pennsy.

Colin, One of those few books I have says that the N&S was the road that owned the other BS-24. Possibly they bought it from the Elgin, Joliet, and Eastern RR. or the other way around.

Jon, Congratulations! The first grandchild is a thrill. I now have 7 and another on the way. I really enjoy the younger ones but love them all.

GregM, The pics of the 3rd Rail K5s look good but that is a lot of money to spend for an engine.

Laz, Yes the Mikado is a K-Line. I paid 449 for it. 50 more than the one he had with B&W. It runs fine but not quite as slow as the K-4. Construction seems to be of about the same quality.

Chuck, I hope you get some relief from the pain at night. Not much fun when you can't sleep.

Chief, If we don't soon get some meaningful rain I am ready to take you up on your offer. Do you ever get to the BPS in Harrisburg or the Cabelas in Hamburg?

Time to call it a night, all have a good weekend.
Good Morning from Blueberryhill
It is 54 degrees and SUNNY with Blue skies and
going up to 68 degrees today. Looks like it will get better than that. Could be a
beautiful day.
I feel good today . Got a good night's sleep. This healing process will be a long one.
Going downstairs today and check out the layout. May even run some trains. Need to.
Yesterday, a young neighbor fella came back and cut the lawn for me. They sure have
been good to us about that. Every week some one cuts the grass and trims it. I used to cut
the lot across the road for an old lady who is crippled. I sure got paid back nicely. I'm
glad we live near people as nice as these. God bless them.
Well, I will go for now. Check in later.
Y'all have a great day.

Yes. I usually work Harrisburg but someone else did the Spring show as I was in some other town that needed help. They want me to go to Harrisburg BPS next weekend but have a very important County/Town meeting and it is Mother's Day. I refused as I worked it last Mother's Day. My Mom is 90 and I'm it as far as family.

Rain is still here in Pearl MS. Calling for lots today and tonight. see, I produce. [;)]

Checked Yellow Pages for train shops. Only one in Jackson and too much trouble to get to it. [:(] Not much here in Pearl to take train pictures.
Got out bid on some items on the auction but I did make the guy [same one] go to his max bid. [;)][}:)] Did not want to push it as bought too many engines this week. [B)]

Glad to see Toots is going to get down to his trains. Getting well. [^]

Off to the store. All have a great day and God bless all.

It's a beautiful day for baseball here in Illinois. I'm taking the kalmbach layout design book to study - along with Tom' s layout sketch, and some paper and pens - along with me to today's Little League game - maybe someone'll ask me what I'm doing and I can talk about trains! Stopped by a big box retailer to pick up the 3 pack of the Long Long Trailer DVD and some other Lucy items for my bride in anticipation of Mother's Day next Sunday --- It's also my birthday that day so I can open my GG1, not that I have anyplace to put it... Have a good day all. Hope to check back in later whilst listening to my Sat. afternoon old time radio show.

Good morning from Gettysburg. Beautiful day. Currently about 73.

Have to get some yard work done today. Going to Frederock MD to the minor league game tonight as they have a reading promotion. Will have lots of kids from school there. Think I will go down to the two train shops in Frederick to check out their offerings before I head to the ball game. Tomorrow I will be heading to Morgantown with my son to start helping him move out of his current apartment into a new place. Fun, fun, fun.[xx(]

Have a great day.

Got some needed rain here again last night. More on the way for the next several days. Highes for today and tomorrow are mid - high 70's [yeah]

Daughter got suspended for 3 days for an argument at lunch yesterday. With the weekend that meant 5 days of cooling off. Other girl started it. My daughter has been able to avoid this kid all this year, but yesterday "enough was enough" for her. Other girl and her mother have caused us serious problems for 3 years now. Seems rules protect only the guilty anymore. Really tired of the "punish everybody" methods used in schools anymore. My son's 6th grade class is in constant trouble for the actions of 3 kids. So guess what - my son and some of his buddies have learned since they are in trouble all the time anyway - why worry about behaving? Same thing occured with my daughter to a degree starting in 6th grade. Some day the school administrations here are going to figure out they are their own worst enemy when it comes to development of bad behavior of the kids in school.

Roy

Breakfast made, grass cut. and a workout is next. Probably demoli***he swing set today as the kids are too big for it anyways. Crane Sound car is still making noise so that's good.

Man I know what you mean about the schools. When I was a kid when you did wrong, you did the time. No one else.

Here is another shot of the layout. Could this be Kodi's ghost walking the railways of Kodiak Junction making sure all is safe for man and beast? I like to think so.

Whatever happened to the Model Shop Series anyways?

nstrackman that is a Lionel Century Club GG1. It's my sisters. I'm babysitting it until she gets a layout going. By the looks of things it will be ready for college before that happens.

Hello All! Colin- Glad that car did not crash on your street & cause some injuries or deaths. There are quite a few people who should be banned from having a Driver's License or a car at all!!! Jon- Congrats on your new addition to your family. If you try Joseph Gryzobski's in Scranton,Pa He may have one of the Lionel Girl's Sets in stock. I know I've seen one there when in his store. Call him up. Chris- Glad the new job is working out for you. Hope you have fun in Houston visiting your Brother. ModelTrainLover-[#welcome][#welcome] to the forum. Good Morning All:

I have been doing yard work all morning. Finally got a break after three hours. I received my track layout software in the mail yesterday. I am hoping to play around with that during little John's nap time.

Good morning - a little chill here. Got the new clothes dryer delivered yesterday - Sears Days so they delivered and hauled out old one for free, plus the dryer was $70 off. Went to Home Depot and picked up a new cord and a 90 degree vent angle, but it stuck out too far. Went back and bought some new flexible vent to attach to the rigid vent I already had in place. Well, I cut the snot out of my hands and ended up with my wife trying - she pushed the rigid vent out of whack and it cut the flexible end that went through to the outside! Got mad, ripped it all out, and quit for the night. Managed to teach our friends kids a few words, I'm told. :(

This morning, I ran the rest of the flexible venting I bought all the way from the vent to the dryer and used the aluminum tape to make sure it was really secured at the end.

Then I went out and rewired the back door light, which the siding guys didn't hook up right - got it fixed pretty quick. They hadn't secured the black wire.

Gonna take it easy the rest of the day. My tummy started hurting a little around my incision sites.

Thinking of ordering the Cascade Range lumber train.... Have to figure out how our $$$ is doing right now first though. I haven't been able to work any OT since last month. We try not to rely on OT money and just use it for fun stuff, though. I think we're okay.

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
