Hey Tom, I took the TIU and all cables to my friend's house, installed the Loader program and everything and made the attempt. And guess this--it upgraded without a hitch and on the first try. Now the TIU is version 3.1 as with the remote.

I find it weird compared to the hassle I had last night--my main PC was running XP and only had one serial port (my laptop doesnt have one). My friend's laptop was running 2000 and was several years old. And while my remote handheld was upgraded fine on my machine, the TIU gave me the most hassle. But either way, it's finally done so all is good now.

Beautiful day outside today, sunny and bright with the temp in the upper 60's. Should be this way most of the week. May get some rain later this week.

Chuck hope eveything goes well with the next surgery, and hope that its the last time you would have to go to a hospital.

Chris - Is it tulip time in Holland yet. When's Tulip Fest? My wife and I went one year and camped somewhere around Saugatuck. Enjoyed Holland. On a very rainy night we went to the roller rink, I think it was in Holland. The place was filled with teens. The guy at the door looked at me and my wife and asked "what are you doing here?" We told him we were camping and just needed a dry place to hang out for a while, and skating sounded fun. He let us in for free.

I believe it is pbj, though not exactly sure. I saw billboards along the interstate showing dates for the Tulip Fest.....I will look it up and get info for you on when it will be. Do you and your wife go every year?

Being in a skating rink full of teens....almost makes one look old, doesnt it [;)]

Good evening,

Another beautiful day here. Just got back from my son's house. We were helping to eat the leftovers from Sunday's Easter dinner.

Heading down to the TCA Museum tomorrow for the openhouse. They have presentations scheduled by all the major manufacturers, Lionel, MTH, Atlas, etc.) throughout the day.

Probably will be the same things they will be saying at York, but this way I can spend more time checking out the wares in all the buildings at York.

Over the years I have had very good luck on ebay. Just now I am in the middle of a weird one. I purchased a 2000 & 2001 Lionel Christmas car from the same seller. About a week ago I got a box, which was big enough for both cars. Imagine my surprise when only the 2000 car was in the box. I emailed the seller and got an apologetic response and was told it would be sent right out. Got a box today, opened it and there was a Lionel box labeled 2001 Christmas box car. Opened the Lionel box and it contained a 1998 Christmas box car.

Just sent another email asking what is going on?

I suspect that when they took them out of the box for pictures, they got put in the wrong boxes.

Good evening, everyone!

Well, I've been busy with exams and studying the past few days and it feels really good to be able to take a break now! I had three finals in a row-Monday morning, Monday afternoon and this morning. Now it's a week until my next (and last) one. Then I'm done for the year. It's crazy how the time flies by. It doesn't seem that long ago that I was just starting university.

It's interesting to hear about the weather you guys are getting. It's been very warm here for the past couple of weeks and this weekend felt like summer. Today it's quite miserable with lots of rain and drizzle. But, get this: Farther east of Regina, there was a liberal helping of...SNOW! Yes, snow! Talking to my parents on the phone, I was told that the highways in their area were thick with slush. So bad, in fact, that the plows had to go out on some roads!

Either pulled a muscle(s) or have appendicitis or ???. Doc did blood work today and getting a CAT scan tomorrow. Terrible pain and only got about 1 hour of sleep last night. Did manage to snooze a little this afternoon after we got back. I'm praying it's a pulled muscle.

We had a thread a while ago about toy trains in movies -- watched Garfield: The Movie with the kids on the weekend and Jon has a toy train set. Later, Garfield gets to control an entire real switching yard via a computer console.

Good to hear from Sask. Speaking of Holland, where is ???? Did I miss a post from him? [?] Been ages.

Roseyville Town Board meeting was something. Lady realtor came to appoligize for an email she sent downgrading Rolesville, Commissioners and staff. She falls out of her Lexus, short dress half way up to her but, skipy high heals with pink toe nails. Prances into Town Meeting Hall. Her company president did a great job and then she stood up. No appoligy came out of her mouth and then I "lit" into her. She tried to fight back and I kept chewing on her and then other Commissioners joined in. She got about 15 minutes of a-- chewing. She got so red faced and watery eyed. We told her not to come back to Rolesville. She exitied. Board is mad. She may not have heard the end of this. I know her President was really embarrased.

About to strave. Good night all.

Doug/cnnw1995 - what an amazing scale layout. I have neither the space, nor the talent to create such a layout, but it was great to see it. Thanks for sharing.

Good morning to all from Gettysburg. Another sunny and gorgeous day on tap with highs forecast to be about 75.

Hope all the TCAers at York are enjoying the bandit meets. I hope to meet some of you there Friday at the CTT booth at Noon.

I got an e-mail this morning telling me my Chase account had been "violated". I don't have a Chase account, but I opened it up and read it. It said to click on a link and enter account info, etc. The usual scam stuff. Then I got freaked out. Could I have done any harm just by opening it to read? [:O]

I have that issue, Doug. Some of the photos are nearly impossible to tell from the real things! Just spectacular.

Like so many other layouts we read about lately in CTT, MR, and OGR, this particular layout has been dismantled due to a home sale. What a shame.

Five new videos awaited me last night at the library. A few I Love Toy Trains for the kids, and 3 for me - The SD Model Railroad Museum, an ATSF video with many great color movies of Alcos, E and F units back in the 50's. The last video is about the Conway Scenic RR up here in New England. I'll watch that tonight, Good Lord willin'.

Ran my Williams 671 last night, but didn't work on the layout. Also took the fam to dinner. I had steak tips, which were very good. Ran into my sister unexpectedly at the restaurant.

Morning all...50 dgrees here in the suburbs. Looks like another great day. May have to take my daughter for x rays on her foot. She landed wrong at cheerleading. Just about completed my "plaza" project on my layout. I cleaned it up so I could run some trains. For a little history, I put up a page on my site showing the steps. I hope to work on it again soon so I can finish up the whole area but for now it looks pretty good.

Hope everyone has a good day!

Good morning all,

It is cloudy but warm in SE Indiana with the temps heading to the 70s today. I do believe the 384E will be getting a work out tonight. My son and I did get the yard mowed last night, and we all watched "Veronica Mars". I am so glad it is not on the same time as "Lost" any more. It sounds as if a lot of us are busy with yard work. Chief, you do have interesting meetings. Chuck, good luck with the surgery. To all the York people, I hope you have success in your searches for new "finds". I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Good Morning All:

Another great day in Chicagoland. We expect to get a little rain, but we can use it!

I took my 2 1/2 year old son, John, to the park after dinner last night. As he was swinging on a swing we saw a jet pass by overhead. I asked him " would you like to take a plane ride?" He immediately answered with a resounding no! Incredulous, I asked him again: "Are you sure you wouldn't like to take a plane ride?" To which, he responded:

"No plane ride daddy, John take a train ride!"

Well I couldn't argue with that. Over the past couple of months his favorite "books" are all of the toy train catalogs I have been accumulating. So we are now planning his first train ride to the zoo.

Regards,

John

Morning from a sunny and cool Chicago. I hear you, Paul, about the weather here - but it's always volatile in spring - and I remember freezing in Little League... Still a bit brisk with the wind off the lake in downtown or out of the west at home. Our local Little League field must be 20 degrees cooler than anywhere else too. I wear my winter coat for those 3 hour games. I'm not doing much about the lawn - I must have two or three guys a day drop by offering to aerate, de-thach, fertilize, etc. - for a few hundred dollars. Rather buy a train and let the kids run around. Besides, I'm a tad leery enough about the chemicals in this stuff. I do love all the crocuses and lillies that pop up without my doing anything [;)] I think I'll see how long I can wear my Sox hat today at work without bugging someone.
Holland is in Michigan, Chief. Yeah, I miss Daan's postings too (from the real Holland). Couple more days until our anniversary. I think we'll go into the city for the day...
John, check the photo link in your signature of that Pennsy engine. It's red-xing for me.
Jim F, hope you feel better today.
Marty, my daughter's running track and complaining about her leg hurting but refuses to rest it. I see a doctor's visit coming soon. Check out Marty's site to see his plaza.
Jim A, I don't think you did anything by visitng the site but I'd run Ad-Aware or SpyBot just to be sure - there's such a phenomenon known as drive-by-downloads that work on such sites; been reading up on rootkits that burrow themselves into the very kernel of code on a box; no real solution to even find it.

Good, you're OK then - don't click on a link in an email filtered as spam - sometimes though just opening the email though tells the spammer he's got a good email address...

Yeah? I just read up on this junk. Evidently, in some cases, opening the email can give an opportunity of a driveby download. I'm on a Mac at work, not a PC, behind a pretty strong firewall, and there is literally no personal financial info of mine on this computer (CC #s, bank acct #, etc.).

You'll be fine. Might see some more spam to that address though (in my mind's eye, I can see the spammers in their boiler room shouting 'I've got a live one!')

Well, I've gone and did it - solicited some quotes for a radon mitigation company to come out and do the deed. The state really frowns on my doing this myself... It'll mean me taking down the layout (sniff)[:(]
It'll also mean I get to put it back up [;)]

We have a pretty decent firewall protection package here. I just talked to the computer guy. He says pretty much the same thing. Not much to worry about.

But it's what I do best - worry.[%-)]

Doug,

Taking down your layout is just the first step towards a new and improved one. If they cap that crawl area with cement, you will have a sturdy, flat area in which to build a new layout on top of. You could even make it so that the table top rolls toward you like a drawer being opened to access the back components and wiring below easier. No end to the possibilities. Unless they decide to put the vent pipe there.

Think about building a temporary hollow door layout. Trolleys don't need much space.
