Hurray for Yaz, and don't forget Carlton Fisk - a great player for both Sox. Warm and sunny in Illinois today. Dare I try to swap our DSL router by myself and connect it to a Mac? Will it even work with a Mac? Should I seek a third quote for radon mitigation. Only the Shadow knows...

John,
I own a lot of baseball hats. I just happened to be wearing a Cards hat the day that photo was taken. Lately, I've been wearing my red Washington Nationals hat. I got it from my wife and kids last Father's Day. I'm a Red Sox fan, but also just a big baseball fan. So much so, that I once did a painting of Yaz that ended up hanging in the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y. There it was, right in the middle of a Leroy Neiman and my favorite, Norman Rockwell.

The people in the photo aren't related to me. I just asked them to pose for the photo. [;)]

Jim

Jim:

That is so cool! Is the picture still in Cooperstown? Since you are a BoSox fan you would really appreciate the White Sox announcer, Ken "Hawk" Harrelson. While Hawk can be really annoying, he really LOVES Yaz. Nary a game goes by without a mention of the former Red Sox star.

Regards,

John

The Hall wanted to keep the painting, but I declined. I loaned it to them for 2 years, then we extended it for another year. Ironically, my wife sees Yaz all the time at the butcher. He hangs out there because he's friends with the owner. One time she was reaching for a package of steak tips, and a big hand came down and grabbed them before she got them. It was Yaz. He's a quiet guy. Doesn't like to be approached.

I remember when Harrelson played with Boston. He was also a good announcer here before moving on to Chicago. I always liked him. Especially after this incident. About ten years ago, I was at Fenway Park and Harrelson walked by, in the stands, not on the field. Someone yelled out, "Harrelson, you're a has-been"! He turned around and yelled back, Better than being a never-was like you". I loved it!

And it was a very sorry day in Boston when Fisk left for the White Sox.

I use a tea maker by Mr. Coffee but do not follow the directions. I put in cold water to water level in the maker. Then I put hot water up to water level in the plastic 1/2 gal jug. Stir in 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 cups of sugar [I use Splender]. Put two family size tea bags in the top hopper [with a coffee filter]. Let it run its course. Let sit for a few minutes. Drain the hopper adn mash out the tea bags. Stir the tea and sugar mix. Now for boiling: Use two family tea bags in a small sause pot of water. Boil water then put in bags. Boil for 1 1/2 minutes. Dump into pitcher [1/2 gal] of hot water [about a quart] with the sugar [Splender] mix from above. Stir and ma***ea bags to get all the liquid tea out. Fill pitcher until 1/2 gal. Lots of ice in glass and add lemon juice. [:D]

SOMETHING THAT WORKS

Craftsman rounded bolt head removers. Bought the big set [$50]. Works. For some reason, the head of one of my JD mower blade bolt heads rounded off. Think it was the S&K socket [should have bought Craftsman]. Would not come out. Tried several tricks and tools. Bought this set of tools. Slid the right sized "socket" over the bolt. Had to put a 7/8 socket on pull handle to fit over the tool. Put lots of pressure counter clockwise and it bit into head and came out. All Southerners are welcome to borrow my set if needed. Yanks, buy your own. [;)]

Off to mow. [:D]

Hurray, the router works. I'm a genius. Junked the old PCs too. My wife took the daughter to emergency care because her leg is still hurting her enough she didn't want to run with the track team today which is her big thing. Off to watch the youngest.

Had the photo shoot of the layout this afternoon. The photographer is Geoff Stunkard. He's an independent that does work with Kalmbach, his main focus is muscle cars. Yes he does have an interest in trains, memmorabilia, though he depends on his father's layout when he wants to run trains.

A very enthusiastic individural. Very thorough, spent four hours taking many photos at different angles of specific scenes. Luckily the gremlins didn't show up till all was done and making a few last runs around the layout, something shorted and was tripping the transformers. If it rains tomorrow and I can't do yard work[:(][:D]I'll do some trouble shooting. I have a suspision it may be a loose wire in the control panel, I opened the panel to change the setting on the auxilliary PM I use for conventional control. Had a similar problem once before.

Saw the first Eastern Towhee of the season today. They are supposed to be full time residents here, but someone forgot to tell them that. Haven't seen the humming birds arrive yet.

Tree frogs and toads are also out now as well as other night time background noise critters.

Great time of year.

Although I've drank tankers and tankers of sweet tea, I've never actually made it myself. I do try to order sweet tea where ever I go, unless the place is known to butcher it. For example, my local Ruby Tuesdays charges about $2 for a glass of tinted water. Horrible!

The local Norfolk & Southern stranded me on the wrong side of the tracks during my Kentucky Fried Chicken run tonight. The single locomotive backed up, picked up about three Southern boxcars, then headed on it's way. I'm probably the only one in town that doesn't mind being caught by the train.

I hope to swing by a train store in the next day or two. I haven't bought anything in a while and I need a fix, real bad.

Hello all!

York report here. Beautiful weather (for once) for the Spring meet. It may have gotten t0 90 here today. Spent today (meet opened at noon) in the Orange Hall. Picked up some Lionel NYC milk cars for $35 each from Nicholas Smith trains (great deals there!).

Also got to meet fellow forumite David of DM&M RR Co. and bought some of his telephone poles. They are really really nice and the web photos Buckeye has posted do not do them justice. David is a really nice guy!

Standard gauge is really big this Spring in the Orange Hall. Lots of really nice stuff and well out of my price range. It is great to get to see it and talk to the sellers.

I plan to go tomorrow to the Black Hall. The National TinPlate Trackers (sp??) are there with their giant modular layout. I heard it is pretty cool and they are running some long trains on it.

Haven't had time to read up on the Pot since I left early Tuesday so I do not know if LAZ got many takers for the CTT Forum members to meet at the CTT booth tomorrow at noon. I plan to be there.

I stopped at the CTT booth (next to MTH booth) and spoke to our friend Bob Keller. He told me about some of the changes to possibly come later this year to the forum. There will definitely be a change to the software used and it will require all to re- register - unfortunate fact of life with this type of software. There may be some new features - so stay tuned!

Will check in tomorrow if I can.

Have a great evening all!
Roy

Too late for him to read it, but God bless Chuck and I hope his surgery goes well.

Doug, I hope your daughter's leg is alright?!

Well, I went to the doctor Tuesday, did lab work that afternoon, then yesterday I got a CT (Cat) scan at Metro Imaging -- acute appendicitis. Went to St. Joseph's in Kirkwood MO and they had it out in about 2 hours! I did pretty well overnight so today they asked if I wanted to go home today and I said YES! Glad to be home. Luckily, they gave me Vicodin, so I'm not in any real pain, and it was a laparoscopic surgery. I'll be out of work for 2 weeks, the surgeon said. I have a lifting limit of 5 pounds, so really I'm stuck on the couch. Too bad Lego doesn't have remote switches, or I could sit here and run the Hogwarts Express and stuff....

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Looks like Roy and I were booth in the Orange hall most ot the day but didn't run into each other. We will get together at noon tomorrow. I didn't get to the black hall either. Made a quick circuit of some of the other halls in search of some rather unusual Lionel trucks, found 3 at one table, need 8. The seller said he may be able to find some more and bring them tomorrow. Now if I can only remember where he was.

As usual I spent way to much money today. But there was really a lot of nice stuff. My main purchase was a set of six K-Line Broadway Limited passenger cars. These are 18 inchers with detailed interiors, including passengers. Should go well with the K-4.

Doug, Saw a few nice trolleys. Picked up a copy of the MTH set catalog and it has a Chicago Bears trolley among others.

Paul, Loved your flower pics.

Want to get an early start tomorrow, so off to bed.

Jeff, Varina is unique. I think it was where the real NS started. N&W and Southern use to join up there. Don't know how long you have been in Fuquay-Varina. See, I lived near there for 16 years before moving to Roseyville. Bet a lot of folks can not tell you where Varina is. Speaking of train store. Miss Edna is closed until the 24th. She use to go to York but I think she just took off and is still in town. If you go to Tom's at Southhills, take a big jar of Vasoline. If you don't, you will not be able to sit down for a week or more. [V] Only thing I buy there is paints, little nuts and bolts, train speciality bulbs and etc. Miss Edna does not stock such stuff to build with. Just repair bulbs and parts. I will buy a car on ocassion if it is rare and can not be found anywhere else. I see folks in there paying MSRP and more for stuff you can get at Miss Edna's so much cheaper or mail order and pay shipping and still save. I carry Miss Edna's cards in my wallet. Been known to hand cards to Tom's customers in there and say, check this place out before you buy. Nice folks but screw you on $$$$.

Well, feel good after getting blade bolt out so easy. Now for some microwave popcorn and tea.
Been tied up on town phone calls all night. Before that a buddy that lives up the street came by to visit and talk. His wife just left him suddenly and no one can figure out why.????? Good morning to all from Gettysburg. Getting ready to get cleaned up and head to York. Meeting one of my college fraternity brothers there, he is attending as a guest. He's a Flyer guy so we won't be fighting over the same items[;)]. Plan to be at CTT booth at noon. The Mrs. is gone for a girls weekend. Couldn't have planned a better weekend if I tried.

Well I gotta run. Stop for breakfast and then off to York.

Have great day.

If we're all going to have to re-register on the forum, I'm giving serious thought to changing my pen name. JAABAT? What's that all about? I want something railroady. Boxcar Jim? And the Chief should consider "The Roseyville Rascal" or better yet, "Caboose Kicker". And what's going to happen to our star status? Everyone going to start over? I'm closing in on 5 stars!

Gonna be in a class all day. On the bright side, free food and drinks! I might be able to post some at lunch. If not, have a great weekend.

Chief, what's a truck patch? Do you grow Polk Salad?

Good morning all,

It is cloudy and warm in SE Indiana with temps headed to the 70s today. I worked on the box car and the track last night and made a few, slow trips around the layout that were successful. I tinkered with the side frames and squeezed those in so there was not as much "play" in the wheelbase, and there was a low spot on the track that I fixed as well. It seems to run better now. I worked out at the Y as well. I hope everyone has a nice weekend.

Keep on training,

Hope all goes/went well for Chuck. Guess we'll hear something later today.

Some pretty good thunder storms moved through last night, overcast today with threat of rain and maybe more thunderstorms. Seems with just a bit of rain the grass grew by at least a third over night. I'll get to try the new lawn tractor as soon as its dry enough to cut.

I did finally get the pool sidewall set and finished bolting it yesterday evening. Was hoping to finish grading the inside and get ready to install the liner this weekend but need to wait for it to dry out a bit so I can move the sand without aggrivating my shoulder again. Guess I'll just have to go out to the train room and try to find that short.

Good morning all,

It is nice here this morning but it looks like some rain this afternoon. It has been a great week here and we were able to get a lot of yard work done. This is about the earliest we've gotten this far.

It is great reading all the info coming out of York. I will be thinking of all of you as you get together at noon today. Looking forward to hearing all about it.

Chuck - just said a prayer for you. Hope the operation goes well.

Chief - thanks for the sweet tea recipe. When the family comes up from Georgia I'll have to try to make it.

We have a dinner tonight to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the local Red Cross. Sitting on the Board of the organization has allowed me to see just how much it does in the local community. We hear about all the national stuff but not what happens in the community. Don't forget to support the RC in your area.

Have a great day.

Good morning, all. Hope Chuck does well with his surgery. He's in my prayers.

An observation about sweet tea - in my experience, the best sweet tea in these parts (besides my wife's) can be found at barbecue joints. Here in Prattville, the best sweet tea can be found at Country's (served in Mason jars) and Fat Boy's. To quote the late Grady Nutt, "a slice of lemon should not have to die so sweet a death."

We missed all the stormy weather that was predicted. It went north of us by a bit. Could have used the rain but glad we missed the hail.

Hope all have a good day!

And to think these past two years I've thought sweet tea was just tea with sugar in it.
Daughter has to see an ortho, get an MRI, at least no bones are broken. Can't wait to get the bill from the Immediate Care. K eeping Chuck in my prayers right now, and Jim, glad everything went smoothly.
A Chicago Bears Trolley? That's sounds wonderful. I love the reports from York, guys! Thanks so much. I've had more than a few userids on this forum - I was here - well not on this forum but in trains.com - at the beginning in '01.
Sunny here in town and I'm not wearing a coat to work for the first time this year. Trying to fast today.

Found my gremlin, I hope[:D], all seems well now. The pilot light on one of my 180W PH's is out and I'm guessing I somehow inadvertantly shut it off leaving the layout to run on one PH180 and it couldn't handle the load of a passenger consist and four engines. I hope that was all.

Sun is breaking through, strong and bright. Could feel the humidity skyrocketing with eveything being wet from last night's rain. Just turned on the AC for the first time this year to knock down the humidity in the house and make sure that the units are all working before the really hot weather hits.

Any word on Chuck yet?
